Full path from Alias in Automation plugin

I have an automation plugin that watches for Save events and performs some processing in CS4.
When I do a "Save As", I've noticed that under some conditions, I can't resolve the alias in the PIActionDescriptor to a file path. Instead it resolves to the folder where the new file was saved.
You can duplicate this using the Listener plugin by following these steps:
1 - Open a file.
2 - Select Save As
3 - Select a different file format (Photoshop will change the extension. Don't edit the filename at all, let Photoshop do it.)
4 - Select As a Copy
5 - Save it
Now look at the listener log file. You should see that the path is to the folder not the file.
If you edit the file name in anyway, other than letting Photoshop change the extension, the file's path will be resolved.
I can work around this except for the case of a Save As "As a Copy".
Can anyone help?
Doug

The SourceDirectory element appears to be completely broken and has me flustered! If I specify a relative path without a '..' alias MsBuild responds with:
<SourceDirectory path="WebContent\bower_components"/>
Cannot find the source directory 'C:\GitCode\Resi\ResiTrader\ResiCloudService\bin\Debug\WebContent\bower_components' in role Web.
if I attempt to use '..' it changes the root path its resolves from!
<SourceDirectory path="..\..\WebContent\bower_components"/>
Cannot find the source directory 'C:\GitCode\Resi\ResiTrader\ResiCloudService\..\..\WebContent\bower_components' in role Web.
The SourceDirectory element also does not expand environment variables unless they are SYSTEM environment variables like %PATH%. Ideally I think what customers want is the ability to pull the project down from source control and build the deployment package
without the need for an administrator to adjust SYSTEM environment variables.

• How do I obtain the full path string for my file?

Many Mac applications are particularly bad at guessing what folder I want to grab a file from.  As a result, I waste a great deal of time fishing all through my directory tree in order to put and take my files in and from the right location.  It does seem to be better is some applications but still the nuisance is an issue.  Of course in Windows this can happen too except there I have a workaround to help out the foolish applications.  I can copy the full literal path to the clipboard from Explorer.  Then when the file access dialog comes up I can paste the full literal path ahead of the filename and snap to the correct folder.  On my mac, I have had mixed success approximating this strategy.  Sometimes, if the target folder isn't empty, I can use the Finder to browse to the target folder and open the Get Info dialog for a file and copy the full path from within that dialog.  This does not work though when the folder is empty and Mac does not support the create new text file on the fly feature.  Furthermore, I have noticed some strange behavior even when I do have the full path copied.  One such example is using TextEdit, pasting this full path has resulted in the application using the full path as a really long filename for the new file which still resides in the folder the application incorrectly assumed.
There is a list box in most Mac file access dialogs with _some_ of the recent folders I accessed listed for quick selection but nine times out for ten the folder I just came from isn't among them.  That detail really surprises me.  Do regular Mac users have habits that prevent problems like this, or is there a better way to _bank_ a literal folder location I know I'll need to use soon and often, or do I just need to get used to fishing for folders during file access?

Welcome to Apple Support Communities. Most of us are users here.
Create folders and drag those 'frequently used' folders to the left-hand FAVORITES column/sidebar in Finder.
Then just drag your files to the destination folders, or click on them to select them as destinations from your applications.
When you no longer need these folders, right-click to remove them from the FAVORITES sidebar.
They'll still be in the original location where they were created, just no longer visible in the sidebar.
Another thing to note is that the full path of your current destination is shown at the bottom of the screen in Finder. In this case Macintosh HD, Users, (Home folder name), Desktop.

• Full path and filename in wwv_flow_files after upload from UNC path in IE

I have a page with a file browse item. After page submit I move the file from wwv_flow_files to another table.
Normally the column wwv_flow_files.filename only contains the filename. However, when using IE9 and selecting a file from an UNC path the column contains the full path+filename.
Does anybody have an idea what happens here?
How can I make sure I only get the filename?

How can I make sure I only get the filename? For security/privacy reasons recent versions of browsers by default do not send local file path information from File Browse items to the server, nor expose the file path in the control's JavaScript methods. Firefox, Safari and Chrome only provide the filename. IE6 & IE7 still yield the path in Windows format. IE8+ and Opera have adopted an irritating approach of replacing the path with a wholly imaginary "C:\fakepath\"—and this monstrosity has sadly had to be enshrined in the HTML spec. A reasonably compatible way to strip the path in JS is provided there, or you should be able to do it fairly easily in PL/SQL when moving the file.
The fact you are getting the full path suggests that the IE security config setting "Include local directory path when uploading files" (or IE9 equivalent) is used in your browser/environment to enable the path to be exposed in IE. This may be necessary to support dismal legacy applications. Consult whoever is responsible for browser security configuration at your site to see why/if this setting is necessary.

• Getting the local full path name of a file from an item File Browser

Hi all,
I would like to get the local full path name, of a file selected from an item 'File browser'.
I see in wwv_flow_files the column 'name', but actually it's a kind of id like 'F1542335/myFile.gif' for example.
What i want is the local path of this file ("C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\....\myFile.gif").
I hope this is possible??
Anyway, thanks all for reading.
Ludo

Hello, thank you for the answer.
Please understand that I searched before posting, and not ony 15 min.
What i mean is that the value of a File Browser in an Apex applocation is something like 'F1542335/myFile.gif', but what I need is the local path location.
And 'F1542335/' is not the local path location, i can't use it. Or maybe there is a way to convert it in a proper path name, such as "C:\Documents and Settings\....", but I don't think so.
So my question is : how to get the local path name of a file in Apex?
I'll answer if I find some good things.
Thanks
Ludo

• Getting the full file path from FormFile

Hi, I am reading in a .csv file from my JSP page and I want to pass the String path from my Action class to the logic layer class. When I try and pass it at the moment, it throws an FileNotFound error as it is only passing the file name. i.e
Passing
text.csv
not
C:\text.csv
Is there anyway of detirming the full file path using the FormFile class?
Thanks in advance

Yes, as in Struts.
I am not trying to upload the file, simply trying to read the contents from the file. My problem is that I want to read the contents from one of my business logic classes, not within my struts Action. I can get it working if I use
byte[] datainfile = file.getFileData();
and then send that but the I would prefer to just send the full path to my Business logic class and process everything in there rather than doing some in my Action and some in my logic class.
So what I would like to put in my Action class is something such as
processCSVFile(String filePath);
instead of
processCSVFile(Byte[] formFile);

Hello everybody,
I am working on uploading file from page to another one using HTP package, but whenever I submit the form, it only takes the filename without the full path.

Do not understand the problem.
The code you've posted is a PL/SQL web enabled procedure that produces a dynamic HTML page. This page contains a form. And a full URL reference to the CGI that will process the form's data.
This is unusual - as it seems to be that the form is submitted across domains and web servers.. You usually refer to a local CGI procedure to deal with a form - no need for a fully qualified URL that includes web server and domain name.
If the CGI procedure that receives the form is also a PL/SQL web enabled procedure, that the uploaded file will be placed in the documents table (as defined in the DAD alias) by mod_plsql, prior to the web enabled procedure being called. The documents table will contain the Mime type, file name, file contents and other details.

• Path from vnode pointer

How can I get a path from vnode pointer?
Thanks, Veselka

Hi, Mike,
Is the 'pathname' the full pathname or just the 'name'
of the vnode ?The new facility caches the full pathname.
Does vnode or inode structure in Solaris 10 also have
info about its parent
directory like the DNLC entry ?The vnode does not. The inode does not. Other filesystem-specific
*nodes may of course do whatever they like.
In Solaris 8 and 9, if the DNLC does not have the
vnode entry that you search for,
then in order to get the pathname and the parent
directory vnode(dvp) for this
vnode, what is the quick way to get those info from
the file system ?If you have no cached info to help you at all, things are quite painful
and you have to resort to either a find by inode number (which you
can get from the inode), or a getcwd-style algorithm (which you can
do if you can find the directory's vnode) where you look at all the
directory entries of the parent dir until you find yours, and then
recurse backward to find the parent's path, and so on. These are all
the issues that we've automated in the new technology in Solaris 10.
Eric Schrock did the work for this, BTW: his blog is at blogs.sun.com/eschrock/

• HOW TO:  Copy and Paste THE Filename AND its PATH from Finder

HOW TO DO THIS: Copy and Paste THE selected Filename AND its entire PATH from Finder to another application as in document footer reference, or document database which has a path field to aid in locating the file later.
Finder, Spotlight and File Info (can be used to display Path) or using Command F, command I, etc. but user is not allowed to copy the path to clipboard.
This is rudimentary, yet the word Path, is unknown to Mac Help.

AJ,
Isn't it amazing....There is no Command Key for this action? Apple Care was confounded too. And thanx, it'll be a help....
Jim
its tedious, but this should work:
open a terminal window.
Drag and drop the icon for the file in the terminal
window.
This will put the full path including the filename on
the command line.
Copy the path from the command line, and paste
(wherever).
Close the terminal window.

• Automation plugin as action and via File/Automate

Hi,
I have an Automation plugin that is scriptable (it has a number of exposed scriptable parameters and can be recorded and run from Actions palette). The plugin displayes the UI when it is called interactively (from File/Automate).
I am however having troubles distinguishing when it is called from an Action palette as a playback of recorded action and when it actually was called interactively from File/Automate (testing it in Photoshop CS6). On plugin invocation I check passed action descriptor and if not empty, read parameters from it and don't show the UI. On the call end, I write script parameters back to a descriptor to be able to use them in recorded action. With this in mind, after PS start first time selecting File/Automate works as expected - no descriptor/parameters passed into the plugin. But after a first call, Photoshop seems to keep the descriptor/parameters written at the end of the plugin and passes it on subsequent user invoked File/Automate. The same happens if plugin is getting called from a recorded action playback (and its expected). Basically after a first invocaction, the plugin will always receive action descriptor whether it called from an action playback or invoked by user.
I need to distinguish these two cases and basically present UI/start from scratch when user invokes it and use the passed action parameters when action plays it. I have not found anything in SDK to point me to the solution so I'd appreciate the help.
In filter plugins I can at least get selector start when invoked from UI and use that to free/ignore the action descriptor data.

I don't think you should care. The option you do care about is this one:
PIDialogPlayOptions playInfo
That is part of  PIActionParameters *actionParameters
That is part of your PSActionsPlugInMessage that comes into your automation plugin entrypoint.
This parameter has three options:
a) always display the dialog,
b) only display the dialog if you don't like the parameters you are given,
c) never display a dialog (either return an error or proceed with best options but don't stop with a dialog)
From the file menu, user selected, you should get option a (always). From the actions panel you should get option a or b. From scripting you can get all three options.
There is also a property in PIProperties.h called propPlayInProgress but the above information should be what you need to do the correct thing with dialogs.

• Automation Plugin: Problems with Shutdown/Quit on Mac

Hi,
I've created an automation plugin similiar to the listener-plugin example in the sdk and I'm poping up a modal dialog when receiving the shutdown message/call from photoshop. When I quit Photoshop, the dialog shows for about 1-2 secs then vanishes and photoshop crashes. On the other hand, on windows the shutdown process is halted until I dismiss the dialog by button, just as I expected from a modal dialog (and then photoshop exits normaly).
I also tried to receive the eventQuit notification, put this event never ever seems to be sent by the host (both on win & mac).
Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks,
Marc

Thanks Tom. I now use a mac os notification class to pop up my warning
message, this works fine. However I'm still lookin for a way to receive event notifications before photoshop has handled them, something like the PreTranslateMessage method from windows/mfc. Would that be possible?
Also, sometimes I miss some of the events, e.g. when closing a dirty document, photoshops asks if I want to save the doc, but I only receive the close-event, not the save-event. I noticed this seems to be the case with all events triggered indirectly, as the save event when closing a dirty doc or opening/closing/saving a doc from my auto-plugin.
So my big question is, am I doing it wrong or am I trying the impossible?
Thanks,
Marc

• Modal Dialogs in Automation plugin?

I seem to be unable to get my dialog window into a modal state when it's called as part of an Automation plugin on Windows. I've been using the very same code (wxWidgets based) from an Export plugin, and everything works fine there. Also on Mac everything is well.
However, running that dialog from an Automation plugin, I can still interact with document windows behind my dialog. The dialog is always front, but not always the active window.
Does anyone have any clues how event handling is different for Automation plugins, or how I could work around this?
