Full-Screen Mode: Cannot switch to full-screen mode

hi. i tried to run the DisplayModeTest.java file in the Full-Screen Mode Tutorial, and i got this exception:
Exception in thread "main" java.lang.InternalError: Could not get display mode
 at sun.awt.Win32GraphicsDevice.getCurrentDisplayMode(Native Method)
 at sun.awt.Win32GraphicsDevice.getDisplayMode(Win32GraphicsDevice.java:330)
 at DisplayModeTest.<init>(DisplayModeTest.java:117)
 at DisplayModeTest.main(DisplayModeTest:237)and for all other programs that try to switch to full-screen mode i get similar ones (although isFullScreenSupported() returns true). any ideas why this error is thrown and how to fix this?
i use a j2se 1.4.1_03 on a win2k machine (single-monitor, single-processor, etc... nothing fancy).

the solution was to use WinXP :) more seriously, i got an email from a Java developer yesterday and he told me that there is a bug they have to fix, and for now it won't work if you dont have DirectX (>= 8.1 ?), full-hardware acceleration (for the video card) and who knows, maybe some other requirements. try running the program with
java -Dsun.java2d.noddraw=true <class>this makes Java avoid using DDraw -- should make the program slower, but runnable...
i have another problem though: cannot run it on a RedHat Linux 9. apparently, isFullScreenSupported() returns false, but this is bullshit, because i have other (non-Java) programs that use exclusive full-screen mode (mplayer, for example). anyone knows how to make it work? thanks.

Flex GUIs get a bad performance in normal screen mode when switched from full screen mode

I encountered an odd situation and it is only happens on IE. Our project is a Flash 3D Game using Stage3D, and the Game's GUIs are created by CS6. When our game switch from the full screen( StageDisplayState.FULL_SCREEN_INTERACTIVE or StageDisplayState.FULL_SCREEN ) to normal screen ( StageDisplayState.NORMAL ), the performance of the Game GUIs decline to approximate a half FPS of full screen mode. But this condition is only happens on IE.
The Game is normal screen when it is initialized and the performance is as same as fullscreen. The performance degradation only happens after switching to normal screen mode from full screen mode.
p.s. : When the mouse is out of the view, the performance become better, from 20 fps up to 50 fps. But is still not as same as the original 60 fps.
p.s. 2 : My colleague told me the Flash Pro CS6 be used to built a single swc file per GUI, and then package all ui swc files to one swc file by Flex Framework SDK( the command is "compc" ). and the IE version = 9.0.8112.16421, the Flash Player Version = 11.6.602.155.
p.s. 3 : I have utilized Adobe Profiler Scout to observe the application, and I found that when it switches to normal screen mode from full screen mode, the time 「Waiting for GPU」 in 「Inactive」 grows up from 10ms to approximate 30ms which is triple. And in the 「Activity Sequence 」tab, it shows that the 「Waiting for GPU」 happens in the 「Copying to screen 」in 「DisplayObject List」.

This does sound like a specific bug with IE. It would be great if you could file a bug report here (https://bugbase.adobe.com/), so we can get somebody to look into it.
btw, Flex is really not a good framework for games - it's really slow and heavyweight. If you're just wanting some lightweight UI elements, you might want to check out the Feathers framework, which is built on top of Starling: http://feathersui.com/

I've installed W10 TP Build 9926 onto W7 Ultimate 64-bit.
It works almost fine, except inability of Left clicking on Start-Menu. The Left-click has no effect, or my screen does't change to Start screen.
The Right-click works, i.e. context menu appears.
<brief environment> dual monitors, latest display driver by Nvidia.... Are there any further information needed?

It is possible an Windows Update is needed, namely KB3036140.
Since you cannot use Start Menu, lease follow this instruction given by Insider Hub......
Checking for updates may fix this problem. To check for updates without the Start menu, do the following:
Select the Internet Explorer icon.
Type http://update.microsoft.com into the address bar and select
Enter.
If you are prompted to run a control, click
Yes.
This should bring up the Check for updates window. Install updates.
If no update is available, or the available updates don’t fix the issue, restart the device–this should make the Start menu appear. To reboot without using the Start menu:
Hold down the Windows key and select L to lock the device. Swipe up or select
Enter to open the sign in screen. Select the
Power icon on the log in screen to restart the computer.
OR
Hold down the Windows key and select R to bring up a command prompt. In the prompt, type
shutdown –r to restart

Cannot switch to 90 minute mode in idvd 3.0.1 running 10.4.6 and QT 7.0.4

Hello,
I have a dvd project that has more than 60 minutes of video in it, and iDVD wants to switch to 90 minute mode, but when I click on the 90 minute button or 60 minute button when the window pops up, nothing happens, and I have to end up killing the process. This used to work, whats going on?
I do have iDVD 5.0.1 and that doesn't work either. I prefer to use 3.0.1 because it seems more stable, plus I only have a 500 Mhz machine.

.. could be because you have updated to QuickTime 7.x
iDVD came out in the days of OS 10.2.2 and QT 6.x - I'm not at all surprised it isn't working well with 10.4.6 and QT 7.x

Ipad screen unresponsive.cannot get past trust screen to access computer reset

It sounds like you want to use your iMac to restore your iPad, but the iPad is unresponsive.

Iphone 6 won't lock into landscape mode, keep switching back to portrait mode

Hi,
Please help me, this has driven me nut, I can't seem to lock my iphone 6 into landscape mode, it will only lock my screen when I am in portrait mode.
For example, if I open safari and turn my phone sideway, safari would turn into landscape mode, and if I want to lock my screen to keep it in landscape mode, it won't do it, as soon as I select that screen lock button, it will turn back to portrait mode and lock my screen up into portrait mode.
What should I do to keep my screen lock at landscape mode??? I have tried this with several apps and the same thing happen, like in Calculator, when I turn it sideway and try to lock it, it goes right back to portrait mode.
I restored my iPhone 6 from my iPhone 5c so just wonder if it has anything to do with that or just some bugs in iOS8???
My current display is in Standard and not Zoom display, and I even try to set it as Zoom and then reset it back to Standard to try to see if it works and it still doesn't work.

I Just spent over an hour with support on this issue and apparently in iOS 8 they removed the option for the phones to lock in landscape mode. So, there is nothing wrong with your phone, unfortunately they removed a very useful feature. Maybe they will see if enough users want it they will fix it in an update.

I was in a game website.

Start Firefox in [[Safe Mode]] to check if one of the extensions is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox (Tools) > Add-ons > Appearance/Themes).

Is there a way to get the bookmarks toolbar to display when switching to full screen on a Mac?

When switching to full screen mode in Firefox 9 the bookmarks toolbar goes away. I can't find any view setting to keep it displayed. Is there a way?

Maybe use the Bookmarks sidebar instead (Command+B).
You can also add code to userChrome.css below the default @namespace line to display the Bookmarks Toolbar when you hover to the top of the window to unhide the toolbars and tab bar. 
I don't know if that works on a Mac.

Typing in search box causes screen to switch to full screen, with no buttons (versions 34.0.5 and 35.0)

When I start to enter a search term into the search field on the top right of the screen the window will switch to full screen mode and all the buttons disappear. If I move the cursor to the top of the screen the resize button appears and I can switch it back. This happens several times a day, but not every time I use the search box. It happens if I have the window maximised or resized to fill less than the monitor screen.
This is hugely annoying. It started happening when I upgraded to version 34.0.5 and is still happening in 35.0.
You have made some changes to the search function as it now automatically gives me an annoying drop down box to choose a search provider. Is this change the cause of this problem?
I am running Windows 7 (64 bit)
Please tell me how to prevent this, it is driving me crazy.

Sounds that you switch full screen mode on.
If you run Firefox in full screen mode then press F11 or Fn + F11 to toggle (Mac: Command+Shift+F).

If you are in full screen mode then hover the mouse to the top of the screen to make the Navigation Toolbar and Tab bar appear. Click the Maximize button (top right corner of the Navigation Toolbar) to leave full screen mode or right-click empty space on a toolbar and choose "Exit Full Screen Mode" or press the F11 key.

The video starts out fine, but if I click on the expand icon in the lower right corner of the screen the audio won't keep up.
Refreshing the page don't help at all. In fact, nothing seems to help once it starts.
I did not have this problem at all using Mavericks. The problem started after installing Yosemite.
Any way to fix it?

All is symmetrical. When I switch to full screen display, the artwork moves a couple of inches to the left and the display is therefore asymmetrical. Why and how do I correct it? I was having the same problem, but tried the "Top Button + Home Button" reset and that did work for me. My unofficial guess is that perhaps RAM caches get filled through daily use of various apps leaving no memory for cover flow. Resetting the phone on the phone itself seems to reset that RAM. I can't say it's a cure-all, but it solved my issue. Hope this helps.

Mac, second monitor changes to canvas background when I switch between full screen apps on my mac display?

When I plug in my monitor using a thunderbolt to hdmi cable I would like to use my moitor as a second display, which i can do, but then when i switch between full screen apps on my mac it changes what i have on my monitor to a canvas background. Is there a way to fix the display on my monitor so that it will always be accesable?

This is how it "Should" work.
Each display should be treated as it own desktop. If you swipe on a desktop it should swipe through the hidden screens/displays. If your a user with multi displays connected to your Mac, you could have "Full Screen" Apps, Dashboard, Mission Control, and etc available to swipe on each of your connected displays.
Display 1...swipe, swipe... mouse over to Display 2... swipe swipe swipe... oh.. Display 3, swipe! All set for work or play!
This would be a well received "Feature" for the Worlds Most Advanced Operating System.

I have seen apps (like MPlayerX and VLC) have their own "built in" workaround for the full-screen problems on multi-displays.

In Win 10 technical preview cannot determine the full device display area and aspect ratio; the dimensions are needed to create full-screen bitmap.

While Windows.Current.Bounds returns the application windows size, in order to create a full-screen bitmap my app would need to retrieve the full display area of the device. I cannot even get the aspect ratio.
Pre-Win10, using Windows.Current.Bounds I can create a bitmap of whatever size application window the user is seeing. When the user is showing my app at full screen, I can therefore get the full display area and aspect ratio of the device and create
a full-screen bitmap.
With Win10, the user would need to know to hide the taskbar and also display at full-screen before an app can retrieve the display area and aspect ratio using Windows.Current.Bounds.
Is there any way to get the display area and aspect ratio of the device without asking the user to fully maximize the application window?

Before Win10 it's obvious to the user that full-screen is or is not being used. When I create the bitmap, I create it to fit the application window. When the app is displayed full screen, the bitmap will be full screen. Also, the app starts full-screen
so I can detect the display area at startup if I need to.
With Win10, to the user the app "looks like" it is full screen with the taskbar displayed even though it's not really full screen.
Yes, Windows.Current.Bounds does work the same, but I believe that in Win10 determining the full display area will be useful and not just the application window.

For some reason I have a full page opening screen and cannot get it to go back to normal without restoring it to an earlier time. Is there a fix for this?
