Fumbling in the dark... again...

I am curious of what the experts have yo say about my thought - please light up my knowledge - i just want to know.. and already now don´t hesitate i Love DW.
1/ I have just checked DW5 and the live view - a nice idea that is superb indeed - no more zapping between. However when i use Firefox (wich i normally do) checking the "view stylecheet info" i get far deeper in depth when it comes to find the CSS - rules - Am I right about this or am i doing wrong (wich i doubt) in DW ? I hope i am wrong other wise i will stick to FF. When using the recommended "prefs" that automatically shows up in the bar for viewing DW kind of says that the function will work the best..... Does this means that it works as it supposed to do or from time to time it will miss some css-rules like it does compared to the web developer tool on FF.
Believe me, I am using DW 4 and are happy with that, it is a great tool and now once again there is a update that maybe gives a lot to some but cost money again...for functions that you can find i all "developers" tools in browser like FF for instance - what i would like to see where functions that where far better than in free plug ins for a browser.... because it actually seems like web developer tool for FF finds more detailed information then DW.
Unfortenately i also feel like it is a bit "smacked together in a hurry just to be in time with the rest of the cs suite or what ever...
I mean how on earth can software developers miss that when wanting to follow link when in design/ viewing mode, live view... its is written
Follow link(ctrl click on link) when you ctrl click to see the option wanting to follow link - on a mac.... in a swedish version... i saw that after testing the software for 30 minutes...
Anyone have knowledge about this or can tell me if this really is an update worth the money - though what i can find on the DW page is a little pice of video that proofing the function seems to be working.

When I went to adjust the brightness on my iphone, the screen went black. I have tried everything I can think of and have read online to try....resetting the phone, turning it off/on, charging the phone, and restoring the phone. I can see the "slide to unlock" page and the "enter passcode" page. When I enter the passcode, the screen goes dark again. I can't even answer calls. What should I do now?
If no change after restoring the iPhone as a new iPhone or not from the backup, the iPhone has a hardware problem.

my iphone 5 on the ios 7.1.2 suddenly wont fully turn on...it gets stuck on the apple logo and stays like that for approximately to 90 secs then goes blank but I can see a bit of lighting behind the dark screen....it goes off by itself and comes on by itself trying to boot but still gets stuck on the apple logo after the dim light shows....when I connect to iTunes my phone can only be recognised only in recovery mode thus if I force it into recovery mode. My main worry is I don't have a back up of any of my data...on icloud I have just less than 2GB of my data which is as a result of incomplete back up...HOW CAN I GET THIS PHONE WORKING AGAIN WITHOUT LOSING MY DATA...if I can only just recover my data I would really appreciate it as I really need almost everything on it back...if I can only get retrieve my data and lose the phone I wouldn't mind at all....Anybody know how to resolve this??Kind Regards

How do I prevent the Darker Shade Box (color shift) around Vector Objects when Printing
Sorry in advance for the novelette. I am absolutely mystified and frustrated and would love some help! I've been working on this problem for about 30 hours over the last 4 days to figure out what the heck is happening and cannot find an answer through various forms of research.
Basically, when I print a JPEG, I am getting this area (a box) of darker shaded coloring around my heart and love text. I've tested it a million different ways and am at a loss as to what the problem is ... is it an application problem, a color profile problem between my applications and printer, an improper way that I saved my file, etc.
Here is a photo I took of the image printed out (so it is slightly skewed from camera distortion):
The details:
(1) I create graphic art and sell it online. I save all of my printable art as JPEG files because of my customer base (diy hobbyists that print on their home printers without much knowledge base nor graphic design software).
(2) I use both Adobe Illustrator (AI) and Photoshop Elements 11 (PSE11) to design and save my artwork.
(3) I insert JPEG images into Microsoft Word 2003 documents to "test print" since most of my customers use home printers to print. Since most people have this basic software, it is a good gauge of the kind of print out they might get using the same or similar software.
(4) My PSE11 color profile setting is the default sRGB. I have test printed many times and I get the truest colors with this color profile.
(5) My AI color settings are normally also an sRGB color mode, but on occasion, I use a CMYK color mode if I am creating a larger document that I know the customer will need to take to a professional printer to print out.
(6) I do my home printing (for proofs) on an Epson Stylus Photo 1400 (which has the 6 color ink cartridges).
(7) Until this printing problem occurred on this test print out, I always used the "photo enhance" option when I designate settings for my printer via the Microsoft Word documents.
IMPORTANT: This is when I have the color shift?? or color rendering issues?? and it is the only time. If I use the regular ICM/ICC color profile of sRGB, the printing issue doesn't occur. Instead, I have a solid color background instead of this one with the strips of lighter color on the top and bottom. However, I can't control how the customer prints, so I need to feel confident that whatever color profile setting they use, they will not run into this problem. I even test printed the documents over at FedEx and the darker box/color shift did not occur.
(8) The document in question only has 3 sets of objects: the heart, the solid colored rectangle colored background and the text. All 3 objects are vectors, they are at 100% opacity and there are no "special effects" applied.
(9) The image was entirely created in AI this time and exported as a maximum quality JPEG file, although you will see below that I tried many ways to create and save the file so that I didn't have the color band borders on top/bottom.
(10) I regularly use AI for part of my art, then I drag it to my PSE11 open document and it becomes a Vector Object (it cannot by copying/pasting into a PSE11 document). I also regularly export AI images as PNG files, then insert them into an open PSE11 document. This printing issue has not occurred until recently. Here is an example of a very complex AI image I created, then inserted into PSE11 just to add the background (the Teddy Bear and books are AI vector objects) that were exported as PNG files then inserted into PSE11 to integrate with the background image - I test printed with Photo Enhance and had no printing issues:
So, from the research I have done, it looks like it is a color rendering or color space issue with conflicting color profiles in the same document. I checked my color profile settings and both sRGB and CMYK were set to embed ICC color profiles.
I tried changing AI settings to Preserve Numbers (ignore linked profiles) for CMYK, but that didn't work.
I also checked and made sure that not only the document setup showed the sRGB color profile, but that all the objects within the document also were converted to sRGB as well for consistency. That didn't work.
I tried converting the document to CMYK along with the vector objects. That didn't work.
I tried saving the heart image as a PNG file alone, the "love" text as a PNG file alone, both the heart and text together as a PNG files alone. Once saved as PNG files, I inserted them into an open empty PSE11 document - as I normally do. I then added the background color I wanted. That didn't work - the print still showed the color changes.
I tried dragging each vector object separately and even as a group and got the same color change issue when printing.
I tried "expanding" and "outlining" the text before exporting as JPEG, before exporting as a PNG and before dragging as a vector object into PSE11. Expanding the text did not help the situation.
I tried exporting as Adobe PDF, then opening in PSE11, then resaving as JPEG. That didn't work.
I tried flattening transparency (even though there is no transparency in the AI file). That didn't work.
I tried rasterizing the image. That didn't work.
Thinking that the file might be corrupt, I started from scratch and redesigned the same heart and love text. Unfortunately, I had the same problem as before. At this point, my AI started becoming buggy and would not open new files. It happened repeatedly and I decided it was best to uninstall and reinstall AI (and maybe that would fix the problem).
I created just the heart in AI, then inserted it into an open PSE11 document (both after exporting as PNG and also by dragging as Vector Object from AI). It seemed to work. I could both drag the vector into PSE11 from AI and export from AI as a PNG, then insert into open PSE11 document with a background color - and it printed a solid background.
So, I thought that reinstalling and setting back to defaults worked. But, then I added the love text around the heart and tried exporting as JPEG files and the same problem continued to recur. Whether I dragged as a Vector object into PSE11 (the heart object and love text separately and also another time with the vector objects dragged as a group) or saved them as PNG files and inserted into PSE11 - I got the different shades of color on what should be a solid background. I even tried saving the PSE11 as a PSD file first, then resaving as JPEG and I tried saving as PNG and printing and this didn't help solve the problem.
I really think it is some color conflict issue but I can't figure it out. I am definitely not very knowledgeable about color profiles and how to sync all my devices, however, as I mentioned, this was not an issue until recently (and I think??? I recall changing the CMYK setting from Preserve Numbers to embed color profile a month or so ago - however, it should have been solved when AI went back to its defaults upon reinstall).
The reason I believe it is a color rendering/color space issue is because I could see the color output when I saved the JPEG with CMYK color profile versus sRGB color profile and the sRGB colors were much richer, not surprisingly. The top and bottom colors matched the sRGB printout and the middle darker box section matched the CMYK printout.
I am sure it is something fundamental or simple and I am completely overlooking it. I wish it were just a transparency issue, because people know how to fix or do workarounds for it. But, there are no vector objects with any transparency ...
If I missed some detail, I apologize. Any help would be a dream come true at this point! lol
Thank you!Okay, I got motivated to try again. From doing a bit more research on troubleshooting AI printing problems, the Adobe article talks about print drivers. It was advised to uninstall and reinstall the print driver if the printing issue persists. So, I did. Unfortunately, I still had the same result after reinstalling and trying a test print! Ugh.
So, as Jacob said upfront, I seem to have an overactive print driver that is trying too hard (and it is a non-postscript printer which I realize is part of the problem).
There are so many variables in my situation as to how I create art and save/export art. I sometimes work solely in AI, sometimes solely in PSE and sometimes I use both programs to create. Consequently, I will:
(1) export directly from AI as JPEG if I am not adding PSE11 artwork.
(2) export directly from AI as PNG if I plan on inserting that image into PSE11 to add to artwork I have created in PSE11.
(3) drag vector objects as a Smart Objects directly from AI to PSE11 to add to artwork I am creating in PSE11 if I know I will playing with the vector object and resizing in PSE11.
So, I did a test print using scenario 2, where I inserted the heart and love text PNG (AI created vector object) into an old PSE11 document. This old document already had a vector object from AI with a solid background and I knew it printed correctly. So, after inserting this new PNG from AI into this old document, it printed correctly using the photo enhance mode.
However, I haven't had a chance to actually create new art in the older AI files (that I know print properly), resave as something else and try another test print (either by exporting as JPEG and printing in Word or by exporting as PNG file and inserting into PSE11 document, then saving as JPEG and printing in Word).
After testing the different possibilities of ICM settings within my printer, I found that the JPEG images printed out with the truest colors and best quality if I simply selected "no color management" from the printer. Shocker, huh? lol
MY SOLUTION: So, what I think I will simply do is add an instruction sheet with the printables I sell, explaining that the color profile setting should never be handled by the printer so make sure to turn off color management by printer (and if they feel they must use the printer for color management, make sure the setting is sRGB since I embed that color profile in my JPEG's).
Edited to add: Since my issue was never about how I could print a successful image (I knew I could simply change the color profile settings), but rather about how to make sure that customers would get consistent and high quality print outputs of my digital images, this seems like the best approach.
I don't think I will every really know exactly why I am now getting color shifts in the "photo enhance" mode when I did not have this problem a couple months ago - applying the same methods of creating artwork. I was concerned that I was saving/exporting using incorrect or mismatched color settings or something of that nature. However, since I went through the process of making my color spaces the same for everything, and I still have issue, clearly that is not the culprit. The only thing I can do to solve the problem and it is a straightforward solution anyway -> is to educate the buyer on how to print successfully (don't use photo enhance! ha ha).

how do i edit out the dark places in a pdf? I xeroxed pages from a book, and the xeroxes were not of great quality--lots of shadows where the book opened on the copier glass.
When I had the xeroxes scanned, the dark places turned deep black and made the xeroxed/ scanned texts almost unreadable.

TL;DR: Be Careful when you Edge up. Has anyone else had a problem with the warehouse “not receiving” the returned the device? How did it turn out?
When I heard about the Edge program it was perfect for me. Early upgrades, just return the phone that I would have no use for anyway, kind of like leasing a car. The Dark Side came when I actually tried to enjoy that benefit.
On 11/2/14, at an Apple Store I did an Edge upgrade (after having to explain to the store employees that this was even a thing). This resulted in having to change my plan because however my current plan was listed in Verizon’s system it looked like I had to data package even though I did (upgraded from a Moto X). Walked away ok with the whole thing.
On 11/4/14 called Verizon explained the plan change and the rep put me back on a plan that mimicked the pricing I had before (he didn’t inform me that it was a contract plan, but no big deal I have to keep the phone at least a year anyway before I can think about buying out the contract). Also tell rep I had not received instructions on how to return the old device; told to just take it to a Verizon store. Satisfied.
Then the ordeal begins.
Can't remember the exact date I went to the Verizon store 11/9 or 11/16 but rep wants NOTHING to do with me, will not take phone, says "since you upgraded at an Apple Store, I can't even touch your account". Call Verizon after leaving store, was told a return pack would be sent. I wait............. Return package came, dropped off at the post office keep tracking number, sign up for text alerts, breath a sigh of relief when package is delivered.
Got my first bill after the Edge up and somehow had a data overage because of the prorated plan changes, didn't think that was fair, but I was the one who changed plans so I just kind of ate it.
December bill comes and it’s WAY higher than normal, not plan change proration higher than normal, but hundreds of dollars (249.96 to be exact) higher than normal. I was charged for the old device! Call Verizon, am told that this is a known error they will fix it; wait a couple weeks bill is coming due; call again and am told to pay what I owe and when the new bill is generated it will all be fine. I wait, but I’m not happy.
January bill comes now I am “past due” despite paying the amount I actually owed (as instructed by the representative). Call get a completely different story from the new rep who when asked very politely to inform me if there were any notes on my account decides without warning to transfer me to tech support. The tech support guy is very nice, but says he has to create a ticket and he will personally call me back 48 hours later. He even sent a text message with the date and time of the scheduled call. I wait……………………..He never calls. So I call explain the situation and am told I have to start from scratch. I explain all of the above to a rep I can barely hear and she does a lot of typing and I spend a lot of time on hold while she talks to her supervisor. Her response, I never returned the Moto X ( I provide her with the tracking number showing that the phone was delivered she checks it herself and confirms) apparently for whatever reason the warehouse never accepted the phone (this was NEVER mentioned on the three previous calls) and they were going to “look into it” and get my account credited. Waited a week.
Now when I call Verizon I don’t even get the regular main menu, I only get a menu that says my account is past due and talks about paying your bill, making payment arrangements, or getting a copy of the bill (which I have). Finally after pressing zero several times, being hung up on, then doing the whole thing again I got a rep when I explain that I still have this balance on my account she says the notes in my account say it may be until Feb 4 before something happens and somehow I have a feeling it won’t be.TL;DR Feb 4 came and went, issue still not fixed to Feb 9 and beyond? I must say that the with the exception of the rep that unceremoniously transferred me rather than try to help with the issue, EVERYONE has been EXTREMELY understanding about this process
Update: Feb 4 came and went and of course the charge was not reversed. Waited until the 5th to call and could only get through to the payment dept (since I "owe them money"). The rep starts the conversation with "I'm showing a past due balance, how are you planning to resolve that today". Informed her of the ongoing issue and was informed that my account was noted and that it would be reviewed on the 9th (would have been nice if she'd looked at that first before asking me for money). I actually blubbered and found myself, a middle aged man, near tears at this point, which prompted the payment rep to transfer me to customer care. The gentleman I spoke to at customer care listened to me unload (I'm beyond frustrated at this point, but some of my best friends work in call centers so I've become much more aware of what they deal with and try to explain my frustration in the most polite manner possible) and then reviewed the issues and assures me that it will be resolved on the 9th and despite my better judgement, I trust him (I have to commend VZW on their hiring and/or training practices, the reps do a great job of deescalation). Fingers crossed. -

I've been a die hard PC fan all my adult life and the thought of using a Mac would send me into a panic. However over the past 18 months or so, I've slowly been seduced to the dark side ;o). It was slow at first not even perceivable (is that even a word?). My friend persuaded me into getting the iPhone 3GS. I was impressed and reliased I couldn't live without it. It even replaced my bedside alarm clock of 12 years, and as it lay there at night it would gently glow and pulsate, gently ticking away the seconds and telling me that the time was 1:00am and that all was well in life. Then along came it's younger sister a year or so later and I was smitten. It was love at first site. I looked at big sis and thought, hey you're begining to look a bit fat and pudgey. Your looks ain't what they used to be sweet heart, you've let your self go. Smudgey finger prints smeared across what was once such a bright, clean and scratch free screen. Before she knew it, she was pimped on eBay for 300 smackers and it was all I could do not to smash the shop door down as I waited for the time to tick onto 9am. I laid my money on the counter and took her gently in my hand. I immediately bought her the tight fitting corset, no dropped signals for you my love, I whispered gently. I can inform you all that we are very happy together but I do think back to big sis with fond memories and pray she's doing well and being stroked as gently as she was when she was with me. Then, just a while ago, came big mamma, and wow, what a mamma she was. I can tell you all that Big certainly is better. Well I thought our family was complete and there I thought it would end, but, may God have mercy on my soul, I'm looking at the gorgeous iMac. What's wrong with me? 18 months ago I was a normal bloke, in a normal hardware reltionship, a one PC guy. Ok sometimes it was hard going, and we both had to work hard at the relationship, but there we had great times in Call of Duty online fragging parties where we would while away the early hours blowing the heads off anyone and everyone, but she became too expensive to run. She started to slow her pace and demanded more and more and once again I find myself smitten. This time it's the iMac. It's sleek and slender design has me sneeking peeks at it on the iPad, while my PC sits forlorn in the corner neglected and gathering dust. I feel guilty but what can a man do when faced with sheer beauty?! I'm planning on a blind date at the Apple store, Kingston, where a chaperone has agreed to introduce me to iMac 27in 2.66Ghz Quad 1Gb 1Tb. A bit of a mouthfull I know, but I'm sure once the relationship blossoms we'll find those cute nick names that couples have for one another. But I need advice and this is where you guys come in. Before I do take the plunge and commit to this relationship I would like to ask some questions. I doubt that i will be able to break the umbilical chord between me and my PC so easily, so I would like to know more about this boot camp thing. As an avid PC gamer, I would very much like to continue to play my games both online and off with great emphasis on smooth game play and great graphics. Is this feasible with the new iMac? Is there any emulation involved or is it actual native intel based hardware allowing me simply to load up Win 7? I would also like to be able to install my existing PC software without have to fork out for Mac equivalents, is this possible? BootCamp is no emulation of virtualization software but lets you install WIndows natively on an Intel-based Mac.

In essence running WIndows on the iMac is like running WIndows on any other given PC.
You need a descent Anti-Virus software for it you can install all your WIndows programs and all your Windows games

The dark mod won't start/question about rebuilding an AUR package.
Hi...just migrated from Debian so i would be forced to learn some new things (and to tweak my system to meet my needs:P), and till now everything has worked flawlessly..today i encountered my first opportunity.
Just installed The Dark Mod and it won't start.
I got this error:
dlopen '/home/case/.doom3/darkmod/gamex86.so' failed: libjpeg.so.62: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory.
Surfed the forums and the solutions were to rebuild the package (wich i still have to learn) or make a symlink (wich was not recomended)...the solutions were appointed in similar cases, with the same error but to other software.
I'm using libjpeg-turbo 1.1.0-1 and Doom3 runs like a charm...The mod won't...so i'm a litle confused.
The PKGBUILD of the mod does not mention this particular library since the only dependance that is written in the PKGBUILD is Doom 3...
So what i'm asking is how do i build it again to make it work with my libjpeg library?wich file do i have to modify?
Can someone point me in the right direction?

Sorry..i mentioned AUR in the title and then forgot to write the mod came from there...
What is bothering me is that Doom3 runs with my lib and TDM won't, it tries to open libjpeg.so.62 wich is an old library.

After software update: exposure Edits reverted to Dark again
After installing most recent software updates all my photo edits re lightening exposure seem to have disappeared. In particular ALL my photos are too dark - again.
Why is this? How can I fix exposure on all photos AT SAME TIME.Welcome to the Apple Discussions. First close iPhoto, delete the iPhoto preference file, com.apple.iPhoto.plist, that resides in your User/Library/Preferences folder, launch iPhoto and see if that helps. Next launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys depressed and follow the instructions to rebuild the library. Select the last option.

Keyboard lighting stops in the dark
when ambient light dims to total darkness, my keyboard light turns off. Do you know why? It seems to work in find in mild light, but as soon as all the lights go out, so does the keyboard. Frustrating for working in the dark. My screen does fine. Any thoughts or guidance appreciated.

Here's a simple test. Lets label these levels 1 - 3 for simplicity where
Level 1 is the brightest ambient light, screen brightness is set to "max" and keyboard backlight is off.
Level 2 is the darkness level that you notice your screen backlight darkens for the first time. Keyboard backlight is on (as in you can set the brightness)
Level 3 is the next level darker than level 2. I observed that the screen darkens further and keyboard backlight is also on (brightness is setable).
To ascertain that we do have a third level, test out your MBA in a bright environment. Cast a slight shadow over the light sensor (left of the iSight) until the screen darkens for the first time. Next, completely cover the light sensor. You will notice that the screen darkens again.
Here's the funny thing. If the keyboard brightness for level 2 is set to anything but the maximum, the keyboard brightness will completely turn off at level 3. Conversely, if you turn the keyboard brightness on at level 3 (anything brighter than no light), the brightness will be set to max at level 2. If the brightness is set to max at level 2, it is reduced greatly at level 3 probably to be less distracting.
Several Macbook Air users have complained about their keyboard backlight not working as advertised -- they have the backlight come on in semi-dark, then turn off again. The above observation seems to fit their situation quite well so if you are one of them, just cover your light sensor, set the brightness and see if that works out for you. -
3d surveillance UI in star trek into the darkness
In star trek into the darkness there is a scene where bomb blast crime scene is watched in a tab which is like 360* 3d surviellance video ,where they rotate and see the area with uI,
They used a technique which combines/stitched/fused/mosaiced multi view video /distributed camera video to get this sort of video representation.
I don't know what thechnique or name of this video representation .
What is the technique they used or name of this representation.

They put me through to Tech Support who said it may be a fault with my mac and was transferred 3 times! Told them I'm away to buy the DVD as it will be faster to get than their help! -
i bought the dark knight on bluray which came with the digital copy. i used the digital copy and got it from itunes but now i cant get it to sync on my iphone. it says the dark knight can not be synced to this iphone.

I still don't have any idea what caused the problem. It didn't go away when I re-synced. However, when I completely shut down the iPod (64GB Gen4) by pressing and holding the ON/OFF button until it gave me the red 'slide to turn off' control, and then rebooting it from scratch the problem went away.
It looks like there was some conflict between the system and the app that is going to be quite difficult to find. If it happens again I'll try to be more observant of the conditions and report more information. -
After installing Mountain Lion, I tried to scan from my Canon MX870 and received the message: "MP Navigator EX quit unexpectedly. Click Reopen to open the application again. A report will be sent to Apple," This problem happened right after I installed Mountain Lion. I then downloaded Canon's upgraded software and drivers for the MX 870 and the problem was resolved. Now one month later, the problem has returned.

You should still use Image Capture IMHO. If it was my gear, that's what I would do. No need to worry about software upgrades.
