"WHERE ACT_STATUS='Y'" is the structured part of your query. Depending on how much that limits the rows, which is dependent upon the distribution of data, the optimizer may or may not choose functional invocation, which would cause the query to fail. The solution is to use a context index and contains. There is no reliable way to rewrite a query using a ctxcat index and catsearch to prevent it from failing at unpredictable times.
Additionally, the way that query is written, it will take the first 3 rows returned, then display them in random order. It will not order them randomly, then display the first rows from that randomly ordered set.

  • DRG-11110: matches does not support functional invocation

    Hi all,
    We are working on the some prototype and we hit this road block.
    When 'matches' was included with other conditions in query and used in pl/sql we are getting this error.
    Oracle Text error: DRG-11110: matches does not support functional invocation
    We tried including the hint /*+ index(t2 t2x) */ * (t2 table and t2x index ) in query but it didn't help.
    The query works fine from SQL developer, but included in pl/sql gives the error 9 out of 10times.
    Is there something that anyone can help
    Regards,
    Chaitanya.

    The optimizer tends to choose functional invocation, which will cause the query to fail, when the structured portion of the query is most restrictive. So you will need to stop it from selecting what might otherwise be the most efficient plan at the times when you might have otherwise gained the most performance benefit from it. You want to try to force the optimizer to use the domain index to select the rows based on the matches criteria first, then evaluate the other conditions. You will need to experiment with things like your date filter to see if that causes funcitonal invocation or not. It will depend on how restricitve that is, whether there is an index on the date column and whether there is a small enough amount of data to do a full table scan benficially. You might benefit from hints but the "rownum > 0" seems to have the most consistent effect. You can use "explain plan for" on a query that fails to see what it was trying to do. Notice the difference in the execution plans below for the first failed query and the second working query that uses the domain index.

  • Invalid combinations of joins involving outer joins

    Hi all, I have the following problem
    Scenario: I created 6 custom folders:
    Tasks (with measures)
    Type
    Criticity
    Status
    Owners
    Assignees
    The first folder is used to retrieve how many tasks (COUNT(tasks)) have a particular type or status or a combination between them, and the others 5 are dimensions.
    I create 6 joins starting always from the dimensions in this way (radio buttons):
    Detail item values always exist in master folder (Typical)
    Outer join on detail
    where the master is always a dimension and the detail is always the custom folder with the measures.
    I put the outer join on the custom folder with the measures because I want to show '0' in case I don't have any record on this folder for a specific attribute on a dimension (the join fails).
    I saw that if I put the outer join on the master (dimensions), when the join fails I don't see at all the information regarding that particular dimension.
    For example
    I select 2 folder: Tasks and Assignee
    join: Tasks.task_id (+) = Assignee.task_id
    Result:
    TASK ASSIGNEE
    10 Mr. A
    20 Mr. B
    30 Mr. C
    0 Mr. D
    Just to make a test, If I change the join on Administrator putting :
    Detail item values might not exist in master folder
    Outer join on master
    ...the result is this
    TASK ASSIGNEE
    10 Mr. A
    20 Mr. B
    30 Mr. C
    ...I don't see the last record.
    The customer asked to see always the record with task =0 (if exists), so I joined all the custom folders as I expalned above, but when I try to link (on Discoverer Plus) more than two tasks I have the following error:
    Invalid combinations of joins involving outer joins
    So, my question is this: how can I avoid this error ? Does it exist any trick or another way to link the custom folders (showing always the records with '0' when the join doesn't retrieve nothing ) ?
    Thanks in advance
    Alex

    Well I will take a stab at answering this. The problem is not knowing what is in your custom folders. Also not knowing the specifics on your Discoverer Join definitions. On something like this you may be better going to Oracle support, since they can start a Web Conference and see exactly what you see, and can check out the various possibilities. All we here can do is make guesses, and the guesses could be wrong.
    You do have to be careful in your join definitions in Discoverer. You have to pick the correct table as the Master table, and the correct table as the Detail table. Mess that up and you can mess yourself up. So my first though is check your join definition. Sounds like you want assigned to be the master table. Then tasks would be the detail table.
    Then you want to pick the option that detail items might not exist in master. Which it looks like you have done.
    Then for the other options, Oracle, in my mind, does the opposite of what I would think to pick. If you pick OUTER JOIN ON DETAIL, that will include the Master items with no detail items. So that is what you need to pick.
    Looks like you did the OUTER JOIN ON MASTER, which means will include detail items with no master. Since you had a master with no detail, it will not show, and that is why the Mr. D does not show.
    I always have to do the help on this because it is opposite of what I would expect - my mind thinks outer join on master should include all masters. Nope, it has to be the outer join on detail to do that.
    The master with no detail will probably show a NULL value in the column for the detail, instead of 0. You could convert the null value to display as a 0.
    Hope this helps a bit. Just remember that I am guessing/speculating on a possible cause.

  • Function sequence error

    Hi Chris, we where using this Java code with TimesTen 5.1.34:
    while (rs.next()) {
    associatedMsbs.add(Integer.toString(rs.getInt(HGROUPID)));
    // Prepare object to insert in database
    SvcLog_VO svcLog = new SvcLog_VO();
    svcLog.setLogId(svcLogDAO.getlogIdNextVal(conn));
    svcLog.setService( CommonConstants.MobileSwitchboardSvcId );
    svcLog.setOperType( CommonConstants.OPER_TYPE_UPDREL );
    svcLog.setEntityType( CommonConstants.ENTITY_TYPE_MOBILESWITCHBOARD);
    svcLog.setEntityId( rs.getInt(HGROUPID) );
    svcLog.setRelEntityId( woUserId );
    // Insert object in database
    svcLogDAO.insertData(svcLog, conn);
    This code no longer works in TimesTen 7.0.3. We receive the following error:
    [TimesTen 7.0.3.0.0 ODBC Driver]Function sequence error.
    We had to change the code this way:
    while (rs.next()) {
    // Prepare object to insert in database
    SvcLog_VO svcLog = new SvcLog_VO();
    svcLog.setLogId(svcLogDAO.getlogIdNextVal(conn));
    svcLog.setService( CommonConstants.MobileSwitchboardSvcId );
    svcLog.setOperType( CommonConstants.OPER_TYPE_UPDREL );
    svcLog.setEntityType( CommonConstants.ENTITY_TYPE_MOBILESWITCHBOARD);
    svcLog.setEntityId( rs.getInt(HGROUPID) );
    svcLog.setRelEntityId( woUserId );
    // Store object in ArrayList
    svcLogs.add(svcLog);
    // Insert the objects in the ArrayList in database
    for (int i = 0; i < svcLogs.size(); i++) {
    SvcLog_VO svcLog = (SvcLog_VO)svcLogs.get(i);
    svcLogDAO.insertData(svcLog, conn);
    Once we split the code in two, first iterating the ResultSet and then inserting the objects, it works properly again. Is there any known issue in TimesTen about this?

  • Function returning error text validation

    Hi,
    I have a page where i can insert/update user, organisation, responsible.
    Organisation can be nullable.
    Only one user at a time can be responsible for a organisation.
    To check this responsible validation i made a function returning error text validation as follow:
    BEGIN
    FOR c IN (SELECT usr_spa
    FROM kpi_users
    WHERE usr_org_id = :p22_usr_org_id
    LOOP
    IF upper(:p22_usr_spa) = upper('YES') and upper(c.usr_spa) = upper('YES')
    THEN
    RETURN 'A user is already responsible for this organisation'||'!';
    END IF;
    END LOOP;
    END;
    The validation works fine.
    But it goes wrong when i want to insert a new user, without assigning him to an organisation.
    I get following message:
    ORA-01722: invalid number
    ERR-1024 Unable to run "function body returning text" validation.
    Can someone please help me solve this problem?
    Thanks

    Hi,
    try:
    BEGIN
    FOR c IN (SELECT usr_spa
    FROM kpi_users
    WHERE usr_org_id = nvl(:p22_usr_org_id,-1)
    LOOP
    IF upper(:p22_usr_spa) = upper('YES') and upper(c.usr_spa) = upper('YES')
    THEN
    RETURN 'A user is already responsible for this organisation'||'!';
    END IF;
    END LOOP;
    END;This assumes that :p22_usr_org_id could be null and converts this to -1 (pick another default value if this may exist as an id). It is possible that the statement would otherwise be seen as WHERE usr_org_id = null which is invalid.
    or you could do:
    BEGIN
    IF :p22_usr_org_id IS NOT NULL THEN
    FOR c IN (SELECT usr_spa
    FROM kpi_users
    WHERE usr_org_id = :p22_usr_org_id
    LOOP
    IF upper(:p22_usr_spa) = upper('YES') and upper(c.usr_spa) = upper('YES')
    THEN
    RETURN 'A user is already responsible for this organisation'||'!';
    END IF;
    END LOOP;

    Or, you could just make your validation conditional on p22_usr_org_id not being null?

  • Function returning error - change notification

    I have a function returning error text. When error occurs I get the message
    'xx error has occurred' on the screen (in notification). Is there a way to control the message text so I can display different text?

    It's something like this:
    DECLARE l_code zip.code%TYPE;
    got_error varchar2(1) := 'N';
    l_check_fld varchar2(30000);
    l_error_fld varchar2(32000);
    vErrorFields varchar2(1000);
    CURSOR check_zip IS
    select ''
    from zip
    where code = l_code;
    BEGIN
    apex_collection.create_or_truncate_collection('ZIP');
    FOR i IN 1 .. apex_application.g_f03.COUNT LOOP
    vErrorFields := '';
    /* Code MUST be entered */
    if (apex_application.g_f03(i) is null and
    (apex_application.g_f04(i) is not null or
    apex_application.g_f05(i) is not null))then
    got_error := 'Y';
    vErrorFields := vErrorFields || ',f03';

  • DNS Error while joining the machine to domain.

    I get the below error while joining a new Win7 machine to the domain.
    I can ping and successfully resolve nslookup on both server and client machine.
    Both client and server (2008r2) are virtual machines, with private ip's on LAN...
    The following error occurred when DNS was queried for the service location (SRV) resource record used to locate a domain controller for domain
    magic.com:
    The error was: "DNS name does not exist."
    (error code 0x0000232B RCODE_NAME_ERROR)
    The query was for the SRV record for _ldap._tcp.dc._msdcs.magic.com
    Common causes of this error include the following:
    - The DNS SRV record is not registered in DNS.
    - One or more of the following zones do not include delegation to its child zone:
    magic.com
    com
    . (the root zone)
    For information about correcting this problem, click Help.
    Looks like some problem with my DNS.
    Also i tried to uninstall/ re-install the DNS role.
    What should be the TCP/IP network configuration???

  • Function sequence error. in 64bit Windows 2008 Server.

    Hi All,
    Pardon me if the posting is not in the correct group.
    I am migrating my application from 32bit(Windows 2003 Server) to 64bit (Windows 2008 Server R2).
    I am getting the following while trying to execute a SQL command
    Encountered ODBC error -1: S1010, 0, [Microsoft][ODBC Driver Manager] Function sequence error .
    Basically internal function call is SQLExecute() function call. This works perfectly for Windows 2003 Server 32bit. I tried the command execute at the background from the command prompt and it is working.
    I checked the squence of call.We have two consecutive SQLBindParameter function call and then we call SQLExecute. Is this sequence incorrect in case of 64bit? I also checked the return code given by SQLExecute which is 99.
    Any help or suggestion would be very much appreciated.
    Thanks,
    -R

  • Muse JS Assert: Error calling selector function:Type error: Object has no method Muse Menu

    When exporting html and viewing locally we receive the following error... This error disappears after removing menu from top of page. This error does not occur when viewed on Outdoors360.businesscatalyst.com (our temporary site)
    Muse JS Assert: Error calling selector function:Type error: Object has no method Muse Menu
    Any ideas??

    I fix the problem.
    I have carefully reviewed JAVASCRIPT files and I could see that these are not a major influence within the site, only are reference code and utilities of the same application.
    By removing these files nothing has stopped working, I thought I would have some error in the sliders, or opacities, but no, nothing happened.

  • What (the hell) is SQL Exception called Function sequence error?

    ...doing in a code like this:
    ResultSet friends=...executeQuery...
    while (friends.next())
    log.append(friends.getString("sendergsm"));
    somewhere in between that loop, or sometimes the loop runs out fine, and sometimes it throws SQLException called General Error. Not guite normal...

    Thank you for replying... that must be agains some of the policies of the sun, to make methods that may be called normally, but may cause an error.
    Anyway, this is my first database application. The number of problems I've had in few days is unbelivable. I wonder does it load the drivers from disk or something everytime it reads one record from database. I mean when I did the above query, the table had about 10 entries (the program showed 5 to 10 before function sequense error) and displaying each record to TextArea took over second. (In paradox (The dosversion) this would have taken less than a second).
    And paradox tables doesn't work at all because it raises exception: Table isn't expected format. If I set paradox 4.0 drivers and put paradox 4.0 tables, you would guess that the format would be expected. And you cannot create paradox tables with SQL. Now I need to use access databases. How can database containing 60 records be 500kb:s? When it will contain 50000 new records every day, i guess I'll be in problem. Each tranaction (say 5 simple queries) taking minutes... heelp meee!!

    The gateway configuration file contains:
    HS_FDS_PROC_IS_FUNC=TRUE

    This setting commonly causes problems and you need to set

    HS_FDS_RESULTSET_SUPPORT=FALSE
    for normal procedure calls and
    HS_FDS_PROC_IS_FUNC=FALSE
    HS_FDS_RESULTSET_SUPPORT=TRUE
