Functionality in The New Yorker

Can you guys provide more info on the kinds of things being done by Conde Nast with The New Yorker.
In particular, this recent customization of the Home Screen is very nice.
The ability to tap on a cover and get more info in a popup window is really nice...as is the more customized appearance of the library view in general. These are features I am sure all DPS cutsomers woudl like to have.
Is this all written in HTML5 and JS? Or is this a more fundamental tweak with Objective C and iOS? Does Conde create their apps with Viewer Builder, or is there a custom version of VB which allows for this additional functionality?
Please advise...
Thanks!

Hi,
The new Home Screen (aka Custom Store) in the New Yorker is fully done in HTML and Javascript. It leverages a couple of Javascript extensions that are available within the viewer to communicate between the HTML content (buttons, links) and the actions within the Viewer (list folios, download folio, subscribe etc).
The functionality to customize the viewer this way is available to 'DPS Enterprise' customers
With kind regards,

  • Since the most recent Firefox updates, I am having trouble with certain features on The New York Times website; I can no longer see certain weblog comments, or post comments, etc.

    This question is admittedly a little complicated. The New York Times website has a number of weblog pages which include brief stories followed by space for readers to leave comments. You probably need to be a Times On-Line subscriber to really see what I'm talking about, but some examples would be this City Room blog: http://cityroom.blogs.nytimes.com/2011/09/02/bloomberg-cancels-radio-talk-amid-furor-over-aides-resignation/ or this Arts Beat blog: http://artsbeat.blogs.nytimes.com/2011/09/01/theater-talkback-remembering-jerry-leiber-a-reluctant-pioneer-of-the-jukebox-musical/
    Since the most recent Firefox updates, when I view these pages, which traditionally have a number of reader comments at the bottom of the Times' story (or at least a space to leave a comment), I can no longer see the comments. There's simply empty. blank space. I know that the comments are there; if I open Internet Explorer and log on to the same page, the comments are suddenly visible. I don't understand where this problem has come from. I haven't noticed whether I'm missing seeing anything on other websites yet.
    I also cannot post comments on other parts of the Times website; while the pages dedicated to story-specific reader comment seem to load correctly and the space to type my comment does appear, I can't actually submit the comment. Repeated pressing of the "submit" icon has no effect. Once again, this works normally in IE.
    For the record, in the past week, I have changed my computer's anti-virus software from McAfee to Norton 360. I run Windows XP. If there's any another information I can provide, please advise, as I vastly prefer running Firefox to IE.

  • I can using AirPrint from safari and email to my hp printer but do not get print as an option from the pulldown menu from the new york times and other apps. How can I print directly from these apps?

    I can't seem to print directly from apps like the new York times. Print is not an option from the pulldown menu. Print to my hp printer works  fine from safari and email though and from some other apps. Do some apps not permit printing? That doesn't right.

    Thats funny. If go to ny times on safari therebis a print icon and no problem printing. On the app -- and I am a paid subscriber -- no print option ...
    You can ask the NY Times why not.
    Standard behavior is that Airprint always works with iBooks, Mail, Photos, and Safari.  Apps are up to their author.

    I am having the same problem.  I have a 2nd generation ipad wi-fi only.  All was working great until I upgraded.  NONE of my downloaded magazines or rss-feeds are accessible.    For the magazines, their icons show up on the "shelves" but once you click on one it wont even take you to the "issues" i have downloaded.  it jumps back to the shelf page.

  • With the latest FF update I can't load the New York Times

    I updated FF and Flash Player today and now I can't load the New York Times - all I get is a page with links. Other sites are loading OK. I've tried changing the security.mixed_content.block_active_content to false and that didn't help.
    I've got FF 36:0 and I use Windows. Does anybody know whether this is a FF problem and if there's a solution?
    I don't think it's my plug-ins because other sites load easily but these are the ones I've got:
    *Adobe PDF Plug-In For Firefox and Netscape 10.1.13
    * Citrix Online App Detector Plugin
    * Version 5.40.2.0
    * Google Update
    * Musicnotes Viewer plugin 1.21.0 For more information visit www.musicnotes.com

    * VLC media player Web Plugin 2.1.3
    * NPWLPG
    * iTunes Detector Plug-in

  • Just got hit with the New York Times Virus!

    Hey guys,
    While visiting the New York Times website I got a pop up saying I need to click to get antivirus for my computer, of course I said no but am I infected and should I reformat my drive. I won't post any links, just Google it yourself and you can see this is all over the internet. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Of if anyone had encountered this.

    It's actually a 'rogue virus' that wants you to click OK to buy a solution for a nonexistent problem on your machine. Same thing happened to me on Saturday, and a few million N.Y. Times internet readers. So I called the Apple helpline and was told to reset Safari, being sure to click "clear history, empty the cache, and remove all cookies". And that was that. (To reset, click "Safari" on the top bar, click "reset", and click the three options I mentioned. No need to reformat anything or spend more than a couple of minutes on this phony 'warning'.

  • The previous version of Itunes had a function where I could identify duplicate songs in my iTUNES library.  I cannot find this function in the new version of iTUNES.

    The previous version of Itunes had a function where I could identify duplicate songs in my iTUNES library.  I cannot find this function in the new version of iTUNES.
    Please advise where this is in the new version?

    The show duplicates/show exact duplicates features have been left out of iTunes 11. Rumor suggests they will be restored in the next build. In the meantime I have written two Windows scripts to make playlists of Duplicates and Exact Duplicates, either from a selection of tracks or the entire library.
    If you want to manually remove duplicate tracks use shift-delete to remove selected tracks from the library as well as the playlist. Keep one of each repeated group of files and don't send to the recycle bin unless you are sure that there are multiple files on the disc as opposed to multiple entries to the same file.
    There is also my DeDuper script if you don't want to do it by hand. This can preserve ratings, play counts, playlist membership, etc. which are lost in a manual clean up. Please take note of the warning to backup your library before deduping. See this thread for background on deduping and the script.

    Upgraded to LR5.7 and PS Elements 13.  Using a Solid State Drive which is becoming Full! Can I remove older versions of these programs without affecting the functionality of the new programs?

    Yes, there is no need to keep previous versions of software on the SSD (or on your computer).
    Also, you didn't mention this but if the photos are on the SSD, you should move them off the SSD to a regular hard disk using these instructions: Adobe Lightroom - Find moved or missing files and folders

    There are several other similar posts in this forum with the answers. Your post appears third in my Google search today looking for a solution so I thought I'd add the solution here as well.
    It is obviously a bug in either (or both) Firefox and the NYT.
    The quickest solution is to simply go to the VIEW Menu in Firefox, then the ZOOM option and choose RESET.
    I use Mac and this happens in Firefox 3.6.10. It does not happen in other browsers like Safari, Chrome and Camino, and it did not occur before last week.
    It has also occurred in the iOS version of Safari on iPad. Not sure how to fix it there.

  • Anyone Know How To Get The New York Time-Lapse?

    I saw it playing on a Black MacBook in the store window. I asked someone there and they said it was a streaming video on a loop. There was a White MacBook next to it playing more of a Wilderness kind off thing. Anyone know where I can get the New York One? I really like it.

  • The New Yorker iPhone version

    Hi there, I am looking at different options for DPS and I see the New Yorker has tabs that reveal new content that makes the page grow larger and reveals a lot of content that a user then scrolls through.
    How is this done? Did they import a entire page in HTML?
    Thanks,

    The New Yorker does in fact make very heavy use of HTML and I suspect that's the case here.

  • Where is the REPEAT Function on the New Nano?

    Can someone from Apple please explain to me why in the world would your techs have forgotten to incorporate the REPEAT function into the new Nano (7th Gen). I know that I can SHUFFLE my music, but I rarely ever use that option.
    What I want is to be able to REPEAT a playlist (or album) over and over and over again. Why can we no longer do this?

    Tap the screen while a song is playing and then tap the repeat icon.

    I can't seem to enlarge the text on my news apps SI and The New Yorker.  Yet, I can touch and expand the test on my mail and websites. How come?

    I heard someone once talking about the NY app - it's the best selling one in the publisher's line (Conde Nast?), and they deliberately kept it as simple and "untechy" as possible - the closest in their line to the actual print edition. The discussion was on how it was surprising that the magazine with the least amount of "bells and whistles" was their best seller... and a speculation that it was because it was so simple and uncluttered. Perhaps their decision to remove pinch & zoom was related to that idea.

    Hi Yes you can use the same address as on the laptop. iTunes will then show purchases you have made and you will be able to download them.
