Functionality of BPC 10.0

Hi all,
I would like to know if the BPC can perform the following functions:
Requirement
Yes/No
Automatic mapping of accounts between parent and children entities with different Chart of Accounts
Ability to adjust historical foreign exchange rates particularly for data migration of prior year adjustments to retained earnings and share capital
Ability to enter intercompany journals in one entity with the relevant journal simultaneously entered into the other "receiving" entity (i.e. journal entered in Company A against the intercompany account with Company B will automatically post a journal in Company B's books)
Ability to automate consolidation journals as per appropriate "type" (either elimination or offset)
Ability to generate consolidation reports with up to but not including 50 entity ledgers including the option the incorporate different foreign currencies and budgeting/forecasting
Ability to auto refresh consolidation worksheets by line item and also TB wide easily and efficiently
Ability to classify and code consolidation journals as either an Offset Journal or Elimination Journal with different account outcomes

replying myself, ok if I skip to select "define variance" after changing model and click ok immediatly (so I get error message: "Base value not set" it updates the existing values in category for selected model (in reality the refresh should be done after changing model)
would be a nice Little fix (if hard just make a refresh button)

I'm using the function COPYOPENING:

I have created a specific script for this function and now I would like to call the function from default.lgf.
I have added the following to default.lgf:
*include movement.lgf
[HT_ACCOUNT].[8000]= movement(2010)
I try to calculate the movement for account '2010' and place it on the account '8000'.
No error is returned, but the number is not calculated/placed on account '8000'.
I'm not sure if I call the function or select the receiving account correct. Can anyone guide me?

How to use ANCESTOR function in BPC NW

I need to calculate averagre NetSales rate and so forth at product category level which is send level in the product hierarchy and three levels above base level product. I am using following MDX logic to calculate this average and store at every product level in a different metric data source.
I am not able to get this ANCESTOR funtion work. When I replace ANCESTOR function with, for example, [ALL_PROD] parent member it works. Any suggestions how to do this calculation in NW BPC?

As far as i know, there is no BPF option for BPC NW 7.0 but at 7.5 version we will be able to use BPFs.

It is important to use the right kind of DSO. Only DSOs for Direct Update support writing with a function module.

I have a scenario to share with you all. I am designing a comparison report; year to year, month to month. I created a EvBET function. It is good to get this function copy to all range of cells. Is there an option to copy EvBET function in BPC 7.0?

For this type of 3-column comparison, you want to disable the column expansion.
Then manually adjust your colKeyRange (inserting columns, or modifying the EVRNG formula to include 3 columns).
If you just want this report to be static in time, and always show those 3 specific months, then just type in the member IDs.
Much more likely, you want it dynamic, so decide which time period should come from the user's current view. Let's say you want "this month, last month, and this month last year" In that case, for your example 2008.MAR is "this month." So in one column, set a formula = the cell in your pagekeyrange (or anywhere else you want to build it) containing the EVCVW formula for your time dimension.
Then in the second column, use EVTIM to retrieve the member ID from one month prior.
And in the third column, EVTIM for the member ID one year prior.
Consider carefully how the report should work, if the user selects a quarter or year in the current view. It's possible to configure EVTIM so it always refers back 1 period (or 12 periods) at the same level as the current view. But you'll get errors if you build the report to go back 12 periods, and the user selects a year, if your time dimension doesn't go all the way back to 1996. Most likely, you'll want to show last year, regardless of the time level the user selects.

Standard function type Forecasting in BPC.

Hello everyone!
Since BPC 7.0 NW does not have an standard planning function type forecasting (BPS/BI-IP) as a tool to predict the future development of key figure values (signeddata). What could be a good way to implement this function in BPC?
Any work around ideas?

BPC 5x - bad performance of standard copy function

Hi,
when applying the standard copy function in BPC 5x, it takes 1 min 30 seconds to just copy 2500 records ... we are still in the development phase of the project, but fear performance when copying real live production data ...
in the formula log, we can see 95% of the time goes to running the SQL query:
Total Time to build queries = 0,1 sec
Total Time to run queries = 77,5 sec
time to post records = 1,5 sec
Is this normal behaviour?

I investigated further, and apperantly it is caused by the following simple script in the default logic:

Why is this piece of coding causing so much performance problems ... If we put this in comment, the copy only takes a couple of seconds ...

These calculation statements get their data from the database. So it will create a query or some queries for that.

#PL220=(PL010_QTYPL220_UR)-1
Since you put them in Default Script, for every single data update/send, BPC is going to execute the the content of the Default Script.
If you don't have the need, you can move the statements out from the Default Script, put them in other script logic and run it on demand.
Otherwise, you need a powerful and optimum database server to serve the queries faster.

Custom VBA Functions BPC

I would like to know how to use custom VBA function in BPC. I read the administration guide but I didn't understand this part.
For instance, if I want to use the "BEFORE_REFRESH" function, where do I have to implement it ?

I've also used BPC VBA functions quite extensively to extend BPC capabilities with success up until now, but I am now struggling with finding a way to make them work when registered as macros from an external add-in.
The scenario is the following: I currently leverage custom VBA macros (BEFORE_EXPAND, AFTER_EXPAND, etc) to extend BPC functionalities, and the code is distributed in the VBA modules attached with my input schedules/reports spreadsheets.
I then decided to consolidate the functionalities in an Excel automation add-in, which (among other tasks) registers the same macros once at Excel startup to be used by all the different input schedules / report: macros are registered and exposed correctly (they are showing up in the list of available functions) but for some reasons they are not fired by the Expand All or Refresh menu actions.
Any idea about why the macros are not executed? Do they necessarily need to be written in a VBA module attached to the spreadsheet?

Transport Control in SAP BPC 7.0 M

Hi,
We are an IT company with more than 250 reporting units. We intend to implement SAP BPC 7.0 M in our organisation to unify our forecating and reporting process across reporting units. I gather that there is no transport tool available in BPC to transport from development to quality to production. I am curious to know if SAP has provided a best practice for controlling changes to production. What is the best method to ensure that an administrator or a developer does not incorrectly make changes in the production system?
Also how do we convince our internal infra guys that changes have to be made directly in production? We have a central team for remote hosting all our systems and they have raised some following questions related to the security/disaster recovery aspects.
a. What is the backup and recovery procedure in case something happens to the production system.
b. Is there a best practice that I could refer to with respect to transports to convince them.
I am trying to prepare a document to convince them. I have got come inputs from sdn but I would really like an authoritative source to better understand this. Any answers/help would be highly appreciated!

Hi Shivram,
for diaster recovery, you can just use the backup/restore functionality in BPC server manager. Where an admin can schedule it. Even you can use the SQL backup functionality, but if you use this you need to manually backup the fileshare folder.
Regarding Transports, yes when the project is already in production, it is a bit dangerous to use the backup/restore functionality as we will loss the production system data. So need to use the dev/QA system to develop and test it and later do the changes manually in production system. Before take a backup of production system, then you will be safe.

BPC 7.5NW Drill-through to FIM

Hi all,
I upload data to BPC 7.5 NW SP06 through FIM. I tried to set up the Drill-through functionality of BPC so as to see the analysis of the trial balance uploaded in FIM, but with no success. The How-to-paper for drill-through functionality for NW, uses drill-through only to BEx and ECC, not FIM. In SAP help for BPC NW, there is an example for FIM but it is too general.Has anyone faced the same situation? Or any idea?

I am trying DT to ECC funcationality in BPC 7.5 NW version. I am trying to TD from a P&L report based on hierarchies.
I would like to know how people are using drill-through on parent level nodes within their BPC hierarchies.
I hear that there is something called which is a hierarchical view of their objects/metadata in ECC. How is it related to BPC drill through?
In my example, the DT is from a P&L report that consists of Functoinal Area & P_Account (with a mix of hier nodes and base members) and Company Code in Colum (in summarized columns like N. America, Europe, etc). The current View migth have profiit center hier nodes that comprise of multiple base member profit centers.
We would like to to drill thorugh from a cell that is an intersection of FuncArea-Account parent node and Comoamy Code parent node (N. America) to an ECC profict center transaction - K5EZ (Profit center line item).
Any help/guidance with some documentation if possible is appreciated.

Distribution function - What is the significance of "USER" field in Distribution template?

Hi,
I am working with the distribution functionality in BPC 10.
Here i am saving the reports in a folder on my desktop. For this we need to create a template which includes multiple report names, fixed members and variable members.
In the variable member section, we have a field for User.
For this field
1. when i do not specify anything it does not let me distribute,
2. when i specify a user name it creates 2 folderrs on my dektop one with the template name and one for the user
3. when i specify a space (" ") this creates only 1 folder during the distribution that is of the Template name (Which is what is required)
However what i do not understand is how this works without a username? What is the significance of this field in the distribution template?

I have used this field for, what is the effect of the breakdown or problem when users are creating the notification. Example are given below. The same filed will come in IW28 report for analysis purpose.
1 No Effect
2 Production Restricted
3 Production Breakdown

"Edit Report" option getting disabled on saving the report in BPC 10.0

I have created input schedules using "Edit Report" functionality in BPC 10.0 NW, added a few buttons and corresponding VB code and tested the input schedule by sending data and running data manager package. Everything is working fine. After that I saved the input schedule and closed the Excel. On reopening the excel Add-in and the input schdule, the "Edit report" option becomes disabled and refresh and other functionalities available for the report get disabled. I have faced this issue a couple of times. Has anybody else faced this issue? Can someone let me know the resolution to this problem?

This is probably happening because the report/input schedules is not getting connected. Please check the connections once.
Also if you had named the report in "Edit Report" earlier, say for example "Sales Report", once the report is open you should be able to see this name on the EPM context pane, right side under Current Report: Connected to "Your Model" and below that in the drop down the default selection should be "Sales Report". This means that the report is connected and the Edit Report option is active.

BPC 7.5 vs BPC 10.0

Does anybody have any experience in BPC 10.0? Which are the best advantantages of BPC 10.0? Are there any disadvantages? We are very happy with EVDRE functionality in BPC 7.5, and it is substituted in BPC 10.0. For that, we are thinking of making a new installation in SAP BPC 7.5 instead of BPC 10.0. We have seen in ramp-up presentation that apparently is more attactive, but we are not sure that the functionality is better than in 7.5.
Could anybody clear my mind?

With BPC 10.0 all BPC consultants are blessed with better performance and better integration with other SAP products. Its something to feel happy about. But, I can understand your concerns......

Yes EvDRE will not be there....... thats what is according to the release notes and upgrade guide.... but some of the talks still say that customers have requested SAP to keep supporting EvDRE. If this is true.... then yes..... BPC 10 will have EvDRE along with Extended Analytics....... Extended analytics will be far more superior tool when compared to EvDRE from many angles... which enables better integration with other EPM products. Functinality in BPC 10.0 going to be definitely better than 7.5 .. thats why new releases come ;)........

How can BW/SEM consultant transition to BPC

I am an experienced SAP BW/SEM-BPS consultant and have more than 10 engagement in this space.
I went thru the outlooksoft admin I and II courses.
Is this enough to break into BPC ?. Also looking at BPC 7 demo it looks like we need both BW and outlooksoft skillsets in the future. Any opinions ?.

The BPC versions 7 for MicroSoft and NetWeaver will be out soon. Since you already have passed the courses, then the best thing to find is a project to explore assisting in building core functionality in BPC. In a project you may assume a role of defining reporting/input requirements and building the process with and for the customer. This will also lead to opportunities to construct logic for calculations, as defined by the customer requirements. I think the BW experience will play a part going forward with the BPC 7.0 NW edition, so if you have the means and time, I would learn the basics to begin. My expectation is that over time we will find the best methods for blending the BW technology with the BPC processes and capabilities, so the experiance will be useful several times over going forward. But there will also be cases where customers will continue to use the MS versions and need teams who understand the BPC environment and how the technology will continue to supoort and expand the business planning process. So, check with your consulting teams for opportunities. If you are a partner, sell the product and engage with SAP consulting to support the BPC implementation.
