FW CS4 Major Bugs I've Encountered So Far

*Had to edit because even the bullet tag doesn't even work.
C'MON ADOBE!*
Some of these have been covered already, but I just wanted to
start a definite list of things that make CS4 unusable and should
have been fixed in the beta before the final release.
New Text Engine:
• Crazy Selection Boxes - The text remains in it's set
place but the selection box that should be surrounding it is
located elsewhere on the page. Selecting the text does not move the
selection box back to the text, but rather the text to the
selection box, rendering precise formatting useless. Seems to be
triggered by using the arrow keys to move text, or shift+arrow keys
for faster 10px movement.
• Convert Text to Paths - Converting text to paths
outputs something unrecognizable, especially fonts under 12pt/px.
• Anti-aliasing - Text looks nothing like in-browser
text, even when fiddling around with the advanced anti-aliasing
settings.
• Auto Kern - Does nothing?
• Text Editor - Removed... but not?
New Vector Engine
• Combining Paths - produces graphic
anomalies/bleeding. Go "punch" a box into another. A 1px line is
formed when there shouldn't be anything at all.
Tabs
• Selecting Objects - When switching between tabs, a
double click is required to select an object when going from one
tab to another, even though said objects appears to be selected
before switching back.
• Exporting - When multiple tabs are open and I hit
Command + Shift + X to export, the document that is going to be
exported is not the document/tab I have currently selected/open.
Going into the open document and selecting an object within will
export it correctly.
• Tab Management - Not really a bug, but very annoying.
When the tab bar overflows with tabs, a small button appears at the
right to scroll through each tab. But you can't scroll, you have to
select the needed tab from a dropdown.
• Moving Between/Creating New Tabs - Tabs should act
more like safari in that objects should be able to be dragged to a
tab in the tab bar and the tab that is being hovered over should
open. Also, an object from within or from outside safari should be
able to be dragged to the tab bar to be opened into a new
document/tab.
Fireworks in General
• Closing - Most of the time, exiting Fireworks using
Cmd + Q results in a "crash report" window. Not sure why.
• Resizing Windows - Even without the Application
Frame, maximizing the window can be a pain. If the "properties"
toolbar isn't attached to the bottom of the screen, hitting the
green + button on the main document window will maximize the window
all the way to the bottom of the screen, behind the properties
toolbar. It's kinda annoying.

I think that's it for now. Any more I remember/find will be
posted here. Dearest Adobe, I'm severely disappointed with this
release and expect a (free) update that fixes it all.

That works, but it's really just a quick fix. I find myself
selecting all of the objects on the page before I save and switch
them over to the cs3 engine. That has to mean something to you
guys.
In all, the new engine just isn't very good. Things appear
bolder than before. All that was wrong with the old engine is that
you would occasionally get 1 or 2 little rogue pixels when you drew
paths with tight corners around 1 or 2°.

Hi Tim,
The visibility of 1px lines sometimes on punching 2 vectors
is because of the differences in the vector rendering engines used
in FWCS3 and FWCS4.
While the vector rendering engine in CS4 was improved to be
more faster and produce smoother antialiased vectors, subtle
differences do exist between these engines.
The good news is that you can use the older engine
selectively on a vector if you wish to, using the command
Use_FWCS3_Vector_Rendering_For_Selection. This marks the selected
vector to switch to using the older rendering engine.
Any vector brought into CS4 which was created in CS3 or
earlier version of Fireworks, would still continue to use the older
vector rendering engine to give the exact pixels. These can also be
forced to use newer vector engine by using the script command
Use_FWCS4_Vector_Rendering_For_Selection.
Since these commands act on the selected objects, please be
sure to select only those that need to be effected.
For ease, I have attached these 2 command .jsf files that can
be placed at below mentioned locations and used to switch b/w FWCS3
and FWCS4 rendering.
Windows: "[C:]\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Fireworks
CS4\Configuration\Commands\"
Mac: "/Applications/Adobe Fireworks

  • Bugs I've Encountered In PSE 7

Here are all the reproducible bugs I’ve encountered in PSE 7.  Problems added since my last posting are marked [N].  In the coming weeks, I’ll evaluate PSE 8 to see how many of these have been fixed.
I’ve reported all of these problems to Adobe. Almost all of them are in the Organizer.  Based on all the reports on the forums, it appears that the Editor has far fewer problems than the Organizer.   Perhaps that’s because the Editor shares the same code with the professional Photoshop, while the Organizer appears to be an orphaned consumer product whose development Adobe has moved offshore.
For reference, my computer is a midrange Vista laptop with a dual-core 1.9 GHz processor, 4 GB of memory, and a 7200 RPM disk (the same speed as desktop disks).
    File Management and Tagging
    Major Problems
[N] The conversion of a catalog from PSE 6 to PSE 7 doesn’t properly handle photos that are stored within the PSE 6 catalog folder (as occurs when PSE 6 was used to restore a catalog from a backup).  As a result, it isn’t possible to save photos in version sets, and PSE 7 will create duplicate thumbnails in the Organizer for an edited file.
File > Backup/Restore Catalog doesn’t backup and restore audio in slide shows.
Using Folder Location view to move a folder containing hidden files imported in the catalog will silently fail to move the hidden files and will leave the unhidden files disconnected in the catalog.
When converting a previous-version catalog whose photos are stored inside the catalog folder, as occurs when you’ve previously used File > Restore Catalog with New Location, PSE 7 needlessly copies all those photos. If you have a very large catalog, this will waste huge amounts of disk space; and if there isn’t enough disk space to do the copy, the conversion will fail instantly with a generic non-explanatory error message.
After reconnecting a file on a network drive, PSE will let you import the file a second time, failing to recognize it as a duplicate.  The catalog is left in an inconsistent state, with two entries in the volume table for the network drive, one upper case and one lower case.
The Organizer fails very ungracefully when two drives have the same volume serial number, e.g. because of the use of a disk-cloning utility.
I’m very disappointed that Adobe didn’t add the three lines of code that would have issued a warning when it discovered two drives with the same number.  While most people will never encounter this, when it strikes someone, its symptoms are very mysterious.
The Reconnect command fails to reconnect when: you move your photos to a new drive, assign the drive the letter of the old drive to the new one, and leave both drives connected to your computer.
If a hard drive containing photos in the catalog gets its drive letter reassigned by Windows, then the left-hand folder pane of Display > Folder Location view shows the old drive letter, not the new one, as containing the photos.
This sounds innocuous, but it led a user on the forums to select the wrong drive when dragging and dropping a folder, permanently deleting some files.  This bug and the previous one with Reconnect have the same underlying cause – the Organizer doesn’t update drive letters in its catalog.
Folder Location view shows incorrect folder contents when more than one keyword tag is selected in the Keyword Tags pane.
Based on reports on the forums, there appear to be other situations where Folder Location view shows incorrect folder contents, but they haven’t been easy to reproduce.
The Restore Catalog command puts the wrong path into the restored catalog for folders whose name starts with the catalog name, and it will mark files in those folders as missing. For example if the catalog is named “houses”, and a folder containing photos in the catalog is named “houses photos”, files in the restored catalog will have the path “houses\ photos\” instead of “houses photos\”.
    Minor Problems
In File > Export, the Common Basename can no longer be empty, and a hyphen is added automatically, so you can no longer get files named 1.jpg, 2.jpg, etc.
You can get files named 1.jpg, 2.jpg, etc. but you can’t get files named p1.jpg, p2.jpg, etc. – a hyphen is still added in that case.
Setting the Apply Metadata > Author or Copyright fields or the option Preserve Current Filename In XMP of the advanced options of the Photo Downloader causes duplicate files to be downloaded and imported.
    Integration with Photoshop.com
    Major problems
[N] Photoshop.com shows an incorrect date/time taken for photos with unknown month, day, or time.
For photos taken in years prior to 1970, the date/time shows as 12/31/1969 08:00 AM.  For photos with year taken 1970 or later, the date/time shows as the the first month/day/minute/second in that time period in UTC that then gets converted to local time; e.g. “7/2/2005” gets shown as “7/1/2005 5:00 PM” for a user in PDT.
[N] Photoshop.com doesn’t obey the EXIF Orientation metadata field and can show photos rotated incorrectly, e.g. if they were rotated with the PSE option Edit > Preferences > Files > Rotate JPEGs/TIFFs Using Orientation Metadata.
Changes to the order of photos in a PSE album aren’t synced to Photoshop.com, and vice versa.
Adding a photo to a second synced album will cause Photoshop.com to lose any changes you’ve made with PSE’s Edit > Adjust Date And Time.
If you you rename a file that’s synced with Photoshop.com, Photoshop.com doesn’t pick up the new name (important if you’re using Photoshop.com as a backup service).
Only the top photo in a version set is synced with Photoshop.com (so you can’t rely on Photoshop.com to backup version sets).
When a stack is synced with Photoshop.com, all the photos in the stack are synced, but the fact that they were in a stack is lost (so you can’t rely on Photoshop.com to backup stacks).
    Map View
    Major Problems
Map view is unusably slow with more than about 6-8,000 mapped photos.
When I tested PSE 7 by importing 12,000 photos (the size of my catalog) that had GPS locations, the red push-pins didn’t blink uncontrollably as they did in PSE 6.   But the Organizer crashed a number of times when I tried to zoom and pan the Map view until I was able to scroll the map to another country and then back again.   The CPU continued to consume 80% of a single CPU (40% of two), even 10 minutes after I closed Map view. When I selected Limit Search to Map Area, PSE took over a minute to respond.
It takes 5 seconds to assign a keyword tag to a photo if there are 1,000 or more photos with map locations.
In PSE 7, it takes 3 seconds with 1,000 photos, 12 seconds with 8,000 photos, and 18 seconds with 12,000 photos.
Giving a map location to a tag assigned to hundreds of photos makes both the Keywords pane and the Map view unusably slow.
Giving a map location to a tag assigned to 2000 photos makes assigning any keyword tag to a photo very slow (see above).    Searching on keyword tags takes 15 seconds, and a Show All takes 15 seconds.
Removing the map push-pin of a tag assigned to hundreds of photos mistakenly tries to update the metadata of each photo, which can take tens of minutes and fill up your recycle bin.
The weird thing is that assigning a map location to the tag doesn’t try to write the metadata of files with that tag.
Moving map locations always fails, silently (too bad if you want to record backcountry locations not namable via a place name).
If a photo with GPS coordinates is imported, it doesn’t show as a red push-pin on the map.
Scrolling the map or restarting the Organizer causes the pin to appear.
    Color Management
    Major Problems
The Organizer considers photos produced by cameras set to the color space Adobe RGB as untagged with a color profile, showing their colors incorrectly.
    Metadata
    Major Problems
When setting the Organizer’s date/time for imported photos containing EXIF:DateTimeOriginal but not XMP:DateTimeOriginal, PSE 7 doesn’t properly handle US Daylight Savings Time in years prior to 2007.
Edit > Adjust Date and Time doesn’t properly handle US Daylight Savings Time when setting date/times many decades ago, e.g. October 5, 1961 12:00 PM.
In Thumbnail View, the Organizer incorrectly orders files that have unknown time. For example, it will show a file dated 12/25/1976 8:00 PM PST after a file dated 12/26/1976 (unknown time) on a computer in time zone PST.
If you set a file's date/time fields to all unknown with Edit > Adjust Date And Time, the value of EXIF:DateTimeOriginal isn't cleared by File > Write Keyword Tag.
The File > Write Keyword Tag command doesn’t create or update .XMP sidecars for Nikon D300 or D80 .NEF raw files (but it does for Canon CR2 raw files).
New dates set by Edit > Adjust Date and Time sometimes get silently lost.
See http://www.johnrellis.com/psedbtool/photoshopelements-6-7-faq.htm#_Date/times_of_files for details and workarounds.
[N] Edit > Adjust Date and Time > Shift To New Starting Date And Time and > Shift By Set Number Of Hours writes the time in UTC rather than local time, as required by the standard, causing other tools to show the wrong date/time.
File > Write Keyword Tags and Properties fails to write the map location (GPS coordinates) of TIFFs (tested with TIFFs produced by the PSE Editor and the Nikon Coolscan V, Nikon Coolscan 5000, and Epson 4490 scanners).
File > Write Keyword Tags doesn’t write the map location (GPS coordinates) into the .xmp sidecar files of Nikon D80 or Canon G9 raw photos.
[N] The Organizer ignores correctly formatted EXIF GPS locations in some files that many other programs can read without trouble; this may be because the EXIF is encoded in little-endian byte order.
    Minor Problems
[N] Deselecting the option Use “Last Modified” Date If EXIF Date Is Not Found does not work – the last-modified date is always used for an imported file that doesn’t contain an EXIF date.
The Properties – Metadata window shows the wrong value for Date Time Original when the month, day, or time is unknown.
Edit > Adjust Date and Time applied to a file with time “unknown” decrements the date by one day.
When you save an edited photo as a new file but not in a version set, the edited version picks up the date/time and caption of the original but not the keyword tags, star rating, or notes.
With the Import EXIF Caption option turned off, captions pre-existing in a file’s EXIF:ImageDescription metadata field reappear in the Organizer after invoking the Full Editor.
    Searching
    Major Problems
The timeline doesn’t correctly display date ranges spanning many years.
Using the Keyword Tags pane, you can no longer exclude a parent category from a search, e.g. exclude all photos tagged with any tag in the People category.
The User Guide gives two examples of how to use category exclusion that just don’t work in PSE 6 or 7.  Interestingly, you can almost work around this by doing a text search of “not <category tag>”, e.g. “not People”.   But this will also exclude photos that happen to have the word “people” in their filenames, captions, or notes, probably not what you want.
Find > By History > Imported On sorts the photo dates alphabetically, rather than by date/time, and it takes a couple of minutes on a large catalog, making the command almost useless; and it shows a scary message “Deleting Keyword Tags”.
[N] Searching with the Find Bar for “1 star and lower” doesn’t show photos with 0 stars.
Find > By Details > Rating Is Lower Than 1 Star does work.
Searching for “0 stars only” doesn’t work for photos in a catalog converted from PSE 5.
Searching with date ranges doesn’t properly handle time “unknown”.
    Minor Problems
The Show All button sometimes doesn’t appear if you quickly type a query into the Search text box and hit Enter.
Setting a date range and then excluding two tags from the search clears the date range.
Show All doesn’t clear a date range set by Find > Set Date Range (can be very confusing).
Save Search Criteria As Smart Album isn’t available if a date range has been set but no other search criteria have been.
When searching, you can exclude a keyword tag and then include an album, but you can’t do it in the other order.
    User Interface
    Major Problems
On 1024x768 displays, and sometimes at higher resolutions, the Editor Print window is positioned to perfectly obscure the scroll bar of the drop-down list of printer profiles, leading people to think their printer’s profiles aren’t available.
This bug occurred with higher-resolution displays in PSE 6.
The menu bars don’t display if you have changed the screen DPI to be larger than 96 (as many people do on today’s ubiquitous high-res displays).
There is a workaround for both PSE 6 and 7. Set the option > Edit > Preferences > General > Use System Font.  The result isn’t that pretty, since some of the application text will be large and some will be small, but it’s functional, and you’ll still be able to use the higher DPI with all your other applications.
    Minor Problems
In the Properties window of Full Screen mode, if you click in the Notes field and do Ctrl-A to select all the text, then click in the Caption field and do Ctrl-A to select its text, the notes remain highlighted.
In the Organizer, Help > System Info reports the wrong amount for “Built-in Memory” on computers with more than 2GB of installed memory.  (The command reports the correct amount in the Editor.)
The setting of View > Show Borders Around Thumbnails isn’t remembered after you restart PSE.
Copying a paragraph from Microsoft Word and pasting it into the Notes field of a keyword tag causes some of the spaces between words to be deleted.
Ctrl-A to select all text doesn’t work in the text fields of the Properties window.
Interestingly, you can use ctrl-A in the text fields of the full-screen mode Properties window.
In the full Editor, if at least one open photo is minimized to the Project Bin, Ctrl-Tab no longer cycles through the open windows.
Dialogs in the Editor sometimes bounce back when you try to move them.
Dates are shown by Display > Import Batch as 2\20\2008 rather than 2/20/2008.
In Create > Slide Show > Slide Show Preferences dialog, you can't use backspace or delete to clear the text in the Static and Transition Duration fields -- you need to select the text and then type over the selection (non-standard Windows behavior).
Escape doesn’t close the full-screen-mode Properties dialog.
You can’t use the Windows Explorer Tile command to tile the PSE Organizer and Editor windows.
The Editor window can’t be resized the standard Windows way by grabbing any edge, just the lower-right corner.
Alt doesn’t underline the shortcut letters of top-level menu items in the Full Editor (but it does in the Organizer).
The width of the Editor's Palette Bin can't be adjusted by dragging the left edge, as you can with all the other similar panes (Project Bin, Organizer Bin, Map View).
    Slide Shows
    Major Problems
The duration of a video clip included in a Slide Show is set to the default duration, not the length of the video clip, and right-click Edit Duration doesn’t change the clip’s duration.
For video clips, PSE 7 doesn’t enable the command to change the duration as it does for photos. But you can work around this by using Add Media > Photos And Videos From Folder to add the clip to the show.
An audio caption attached to a photo isn’t imported into a slide show even though the option Include Audio Captions as Narration is selected.
    Editor
    Minor Problems
[N] The Editor crashes if you invoke Quick Fix and use just one Touch Up tool (e.g. Whiten Teeth) and then save the file (but your changes are correctly saved).
The File > Save For Web command doesn’t remember the last settings (e.g. file format and quality) after your restart the Editor.
    For a workaround, see http://www.johnrellis.com/psedbtool/photoshopelements-6-7-faq.htm#_Allow_Save_For.

Just kidding.    But, are you going to give us a bug comparison between 7 and 8 ?   I will probably sit version 8 out and get 9 next year.  Thanks for the list!

  • Major Bug in CS's color profiles, color management & working spaces

    Hi everyone:
First of all, thanks so much for taking the time to read and answer my questions!!! I am having a having a major bug in CS3's creative suite. The problem is the following:
    1. My settings are not sticking in Photoshop. Last night I selected Adobe RGB as my working space and this morning I woke up with it being Apple RGB.
    2. Bridge. When I select one of the thumbnails of my edited files I see the colors and levels changing before my very eyes. My theory is that profiles are being assigned to the images as I select them.
    3. Photoshop. Photoshop is assigning embedded profiles (of whatever working space is selected) into my files. I have the color management system on off so this should not be happening.
The only solutions that I came up with were to either uninstall and reinstall creative suite or upgrade to CS4. Does anyone have any other suggestions out there? I would greatly appreciate them.
    All my best,
    s_ke

Ok open Edit > Color Settings. Where it says "color management policies" make sure that all these are set to "preserve"
    • You seem to be saying that photoshop is automatically converting images, without opening them? -  this is impossible
    • Document profiles are readable at the bottom of the image window and choosing 'document profile'
If something strange is happening reset your Preferences, you will not need to reinstall
It may also be that your issue is to do with monitor profiles, or something similar but its impossible to tell from your description

  • Major "BUG" in Imovie 9 - Audio Sync Problem on Export  !

Well I'm a hard-core Apple user from day one, but unfortunately today I'm not to proud about the latest version of Imovie 9.
It seems there has been a "MAJOR audio sync problem on export" in Imovie 9, since July 2009. Apple knows about this bug for a long time now, but didn't release any bugfix yet!
    Here's what it's all about:
It seems if you use the (custom /manual) speed-adjustments and not the preset slider speeds, you will experience (after exporting your movie) annoying bursts of audio from clips that had been set to mude. The strange thing is that you will only experience this audio-bug after exporting, you will NOT experience it in the project playback mode!
    Here's what you can do:
Find ALL the clips in your Project that are Speed Adjusted.
Instead of using a "Custom Speed" percentage, use any of the "Preset Speeds"
    Preset Speeds on the Slider = 12.5%, 25%, 50%, 100%, 200%, 400%, 800%
Then, export your project as usual.
    No more sync issues.
Really hope That Apple will come up with a real BUGFIX soon.
It's a shame that a major bug in a otherwise GREAT PRODUCT, hasen't been fixed yet!
What's wrong with Apple?...this is not one of their finest hours.
Still A BIG fan from Imovie HD,...I'll chance to Imovie 9 when the bugs are finaly fixed!

This is TERRIBLE! I have spent so much time working on this project, and I really don't want to adjust the speed settings to the preset levels, BECAUSE I need to motion of the video to match certain musical points. I can't re-film my video, and I needed this project done TODAY. I made a music video with some kids at summer camp, and today is the last day- the day we were supposed to all watch it together, and now, I've got NOTHING!!!! (Because I can't export it without all those glitches!)
I am MAJORLY DISAPPOINTED on this one. I've made movies in windows movie maker before, and purposely used imovie, because you know, everything on macs is supposed to be better. Well, I guess I was wrong.

  • Two major bugs in Lion - Zoom and Safari auto fill search bar

    hey there
every since I updated to Lion I've been experiencing two major bugs... zoom randomly stops working (the one where you press control and zoom in and out) even though it's set to work on the settings. Safari is also experincing a problem concerning the search bar. mine is set to google and whilst on full screen mode, it randomly stops auto filling as opposed to what happens in non full screen mode. I actually need to get off full scren mode and go back to it to make it work again. as to the zoom thing, I need to restart my computer everytime is stops working. any ideas ?  thanx !!

You don't need to restart. Quit Safari or logout and back in.

  • Major bug in Safari 6: previous domain persists in URL bar when clicking a link

I've noticed an extremely weird and significant bug in Safari 6 / Mountain Lion:
When I'm navigating through a site, sometimes when clicking a link, Safari tries to open the corresponding URL on a previously visited site's domain instead of the current site.
    For example:
First, I'm surfing on apple.com. Then, I navigate to another site, say estibot.com. On estibot.com, I click on a link that should take me to:
    http://www.estibot.com/tools.html
Instead, safari takes me to http://www.apple.com/tools.html, which of course produces a 'not found' error. Nothing wrong with the link; this is purely Safari's doing.
This happens often, and apparently can happen with any site.
In other words, the domain name of a previously visited site persists in the URL, and the page that I'm trying to navigate to is added to the domain of the PREVIOUS site, not the actual site I'm using.
This is a major bug and is often rendering Safari useless for my workflow. How could a bug like this end up in the finished product?
    Cheers
    Esa

Having the same problem. It is randomly consistent, i.e. some links consistently get redirected to a specific domain. For example, I am experiencing this issue when using Basecamp and links being misdirected to a specific client's website. However, the criteria for why some links redirect and some do not appears random. This issue does not occur in Firefox. This leads me to believe that it is not a DNS issue. May be a Safari/DNS pair issue or solely a Safari issue. We do use an internal DNS (OS X Server) for browsing internal development wbsites which then rolls over to a public DNS. Again, this problem has never occured in Firefox and consistently occurs in Safari.
    Safari Version 6.0 (7536.25)
    Mac OS X Lion 10.7.4
    On a side note...
Safari's strong-handed rewriting in the address bar as you type is crazy anoying. Or should I say "too helpful?" It seems to break the first rule of usuability: don't change the interface while the user is interacting with it.
And the unified address/search is rediculously annoying for developers who use non-complient top level domains for internal development (such as .dev)
And the new inspector seems like a huge step backwards in usuability. (debatable considering I'm probably not as advanced as some developers.)

  • Home view major bug: Home view navigation not available in Common File Dialog Box (i.e. Java, Adobe Photoshop etc)

Homeview major bug: Homeview navigation not available in Common File Dialog Box (i.e. Java, Adobe Photoshop etc)
    Hi
All though provisioning somewhat more flexsible and pointing forward ... things are starting to go wrong here ... i.e. pointing to a very potential lack of success introducing users to the new Home namespace/concept ...
    0) Situation if you do not fix 1 + 2:
You can not release the Homeview feature like this - without fixing 1 + 2.
If not 1 +2 is fixed you might just as well leave the release of the Homeview feature out of the roadmap for Windows 10. I.e. not ready for use ... or promotion in the UI
    1) How come Homeview has not been included - like other namespaces i.e. Libraries into the Common File Dialog Box?
How can such a trivial thing to do be missed? I.e. like forgetting to include Homeview into Explorer (would be absurd).
If not included into the Places Bar of the Common File Dialog Box ... Home View will be unusable - because some very visible applications like Java, Photoshop will not be able to navigate that space easily at all.
    2) Finally, please fix obscure situation in the UI namespace in Explorer
Please fix obscures like having Home view, Favorites and Libraries (side-by-side complexity and confusion obscuring usability) - all similar concepts but on a different evolutionary step. I.e. have Favorites and Libraries
hidden - and add i.e. view control like to small buttons whatever to unhide/show the legacy concepts.
In any case - Home view already seem to migrate/move links from Favorites to the Homeview container.
Additionally, Home view should migrate links from Libraries to Home view - and provide similar and better functionality.
Thus going the evolutionary way from Libraries > Favorites > Home - with the later concept of Home providing links to the cloud. Even better, sync relation ships could then later (extended features for Home) be set up among the pins - i.e. concerning
    cloud/network syncing.
The UI should always reflect the 1 essentional concept - and not under the hood technologies or different evolutionary stages of the same basic/essential concept (technology/implementation free - abstract: "Home with pining of user data space"
    - was previously favorites or libraries (thus obsoleted)). Now the name for that concept is Home. Have it include the technology that replaces Libraries too - i.e. categorization/nesting ... and some whitespace inbetween the nesting (alike some whitespace
already there inbetween the namespaces in the Explorer UI ... provides easy "modular" reading)

    Hi,
    Please clarify the following:
    * "X: is a network drive, but it's actually a network drive on my machine." - Is "X" a mapped drive to one of your shared folder on network?
    * What is the project directory structure with respect to WEB-INF/web.xml? Are you able to see the three pages (from web & pages folder) in NitroX Editor?
    * Does the modified content appear in "Design view" of index.jsp upon restarting NitroX?
    Ex:
    - modify one of the pages in "web" folder > save the file (alert appears)
    - restart NitroX, does index.jsp display the modified content of included page?
    * If possible please send the test case project which exhibits the behavior to [email protected]
    Thanks,

  • Major bug with iCloud restore and the multitasking menu that compromises privacy.

    Hello there,
I very rarely post on these forums but I’ve discovered what I think is a pretty serious bug. I’ve already sent this as feedback to apple but id be interested to know if anybody else is able to re-create it or has already stumbled across the problem.
I have been able to recreate this problem twice by creating an icloud backup on an iPhone 6 (iOS 8.0) and restoring to an iphone 6 (iOS 8.0).
The problem has to do with the multitasking snapshots that appear after double clicking the home button. On the iPhone it is my understanding that there can be up to 3 ‘different’ snapshots based on when the home button is double clicked and the orientation of an app:
    a) The first is when you have an app open in portrait mode and then close it or click the home button to exit. Double clicking the home button from the home screen will then display the multitasking menu including a portrait snapshot of what was last seen in that app.
    b) The next is when you're in an app that supports landscape mode and double click the home button whilst ‘in app.’ This displays a multitasking menu with landscape snapshots showing what was last seen when apps were open in landscape (note that if apps can only be shown in portrait than this is the image that will be shown and it will appear sideways).
    c) Finally, there is the case when you have an app open in landscape and then directly close it or press the home button, and then double press the home button. This displays a multitasking menu with portrait snapshots; however, to my knowledge these snapshots never change (they will not show the last snapshot from when the app was last open in portrait mode).
The bug is that after restoring from iCloud, the snapshot as described in ‘C’ scenario gets set to whatever was in the icloud backup for scenario ‘A.’ Because this snapshot cannot be changed it is a major bug if for instance you have personal information in the snapshot. In my case, I have my bank statement permanently appear in the snapshot for scenario C.
What’s more, if I have safari is in landscape and then close it; then at some point I open the multitasking bar before opening safari again in portrait mode; then the snapshot flashes up in the actual app for around 1-2 second before disappearing.
At the moment the only solution I can see is to setup my iPhone as new but this will be a major hassle and lose all my settings etc.
Finally, it’s worth mentioning that I think this is a bug across all ios devices with multitasking; however, with the ipads there is an easy solution because you are able to orientate the home screen in multiple ways. This means its possible to update the snapshots in a way that you can’t do on the iPhone because the home screen is locked to portrait.

so to clarify, it appears that the multitasking snapshot for the following scenario will not update: open safari and turn to landscape, exit safari using home button or multitasking bar, then double press home button. That snapshot that appears for safari doesn't ever seem to refresh. Whatever is there is stuck there and whats more it will always pop up in the actual browser for 1-2 secs the next time safari is opened after completing those steps. Im not sure when the snapshot is initially created - it must be the first ever time you close safari but as I said in my post, it also appears to be stored in iCloud backups. So I've tried:
    a) hard resetting
    b) clearing safari cache and history
    c) resetting all settings
    d) restoring from iCloud (as mentioned)
    e) opening and closing closing safari using the multitasking menu (both the landscape multitasking menu that appears when you're actually in safari in landscape mode, and the multitasking menu that appear when you double press the home button on the home screen).
    f) same as above except closing all tbs open in safari before then exiting.

  • Major Bug? browser stops accepting "security device" password.

    The backstory:
    1. New computer (Intel I5 windows 7 64 bit, OS all up to date)
    2. So I installed firefox 16 3 weeks ago.
    3. Configured ff sync on old computer and new as well, sync'd logins and passwords and bookmarks to, old browser to new
    4. the sync worked fine, I decide to password my FF logins and passwords in the new computer, no password on old computer tho. alls well for the next 3 weeks.
    THE PROBLEM:
This morning, browser asks me for The security device password upon browser launch. I type in password, the same I've used for the last 3 weeks but its not accepted. No mistake in password recall or entry, I made no attempt to change the pw, and capslock is off.
Some sort of pw hash corruption perhaps? I imagine that would be a major bug, if the devs are following.
In the mean while, my old computer has all the info up to 3 weeks ago.
What is the best way to delete corrupt files on new computer then restore with anotehr sync from old computer? I'm hoping to restore PWs while avoid having to reinstall FF 16 on new machine if at all possible.

I don't know if you can recover from a broken master password via sync.
It is probably best to transfer the files directly by copying them to an USB stick.

  • Bricked laptop b/c of a major bug in the W530 BIOS password!?

I have purchased a W530 (model 2441CTO). I had to add a short/low security but convenient password to protect the BIOS. It that was exactly ** (star-star, easy to remember and fast to type on a French keyboard as it sits next to the Enter key). The BIOS accepted it  without any warning.
Now when I reboot, the BIOS asks for the password. But it WILL NO MORE take into account any special character, including the stars, it just totally ignores them. I read (too late) that a dirty way around was to skip the special characters in the password. But in my case it leaves the password empty, and an empty password means read-only mode in the BIOS. By the way, it also does not check if the stored admin password is empty *before* it checks if the entered password is empty (a second programming mistake imho).
I spent a lot of time trying to understand until I read about such an issue that dates back to 2009 !!!
    http://forums.lenovo.com/t5/SL-Series-ThinkPad-Laptops/Undocumented-problem-with-BIOS-password/td-p/...
So my question is: what shall I do now?
Send it back for an exchange?
Would a BIOS upgrade (or downgrade+upgrade) bypass this one-way security?
I am really upset by my 1775 euro brick featuring a 4 year warranty that gets half-bricked in a week or so. I just cannot understand how such an ugly and MAJOR bug could go through unfixed till 2013. This is really a serious hit to lenovo reputation.
    please do help!

Empty password means no password. The discussion you reference is for an older machine where there was an option to make the bios settings visible but not changeable when there was a pw. I am not going to get into a discussion of how passwords are stored, but I will say that the data stored is encrypted and the date depends on the scan code of the key, so that a password can be entered on one type of keyboard and cleared on a different one.  The data stored for an empty password or no password is all zeros.

  • New iWeb has a major bug!

The new update for iWeb has introduced a major bug.
Previously, if you had ANY text in a text box presented with a drop shadow, that text would become the image of text and a little warning icon would show in the upper right of the text box. If a photo were presented with a drop shadow, the icon would not appear. Same for a text box inside the main text box. It could be displayed with a drop shadow, but its text could not be highlighted and copied to the clipboard, since it is now an image of text, not selectable text.
Between yesterday's iWeb and today's, whatever drives that icon to appear has changed. Yesterday, no icon and selectable text. Today, icon and no selection possible.
All the text on this page was selectable yesterday without any issue at all. Now it's a text image and cannot be selected. Further, this makes the page completely useless for iPad viewing.
I've tested everything on the page that I can think of to get rid of this little cautionary icon. I switched off all image bullets, all separator and image drop shadows. There ore no cross-out words. Nothing works.
    The page is here:
    http://www.hdslrreview.com/HDSLRreview/Software_2.html
Ironical that it is a review of Final Cut Pro X.

Zapfino is not one of the Web Safe Fonts and so the conversion to an image.

  • Major Bug in InDesign CC

Every time I select the type tool in InDesign CC on my macbook pro, it crashes. EVERY SINGLE time. Is anyone else having this problem?

I know it's annoying when things don't work, but "something not working on my computer" is not necessarily "a major bug". You'll find people reporting crashes with every version of every software application ever written, while others use them perfectly well.
I would advise deleting the InDesign preferences in <user>Library/Preferences, and also look at the crash log to see if anything there is being mentioned a lot. Remove any third-party software that might be interacting with text. Also, test the problem in a brand new user account. If things work properly there, then the problem is inside your original user account -- a preference, cache file or conflicting process. If it doesn't work in the new account, then you know it's a system-wide problem at the OS level.

  • Yosemite Mail - Major bug when adding a Gmail account

On a Mac I open Mail for the first time.
It proposes me to add an email account.
I select Gmail and fill the three fields (Name, email, password).
When I click on Set Up, the second field (email) and the third field (password) are emptied and the cursor blinks in the second (email) field.
I repeat the steps and click on Set Up. Same problem.
This is a major bug. Impossible to add an email account in Mail.

This did not work for me. I am frustrated beyond belief right now. I did the 'other' route, added a Mail account.. put in my google apps for business email/app-specific password.. it said verifying.. everything was well & dandy. Yay its going to work!
And then it 'unchecks' mail after it sets itself up. It works, verifies, logs in, everything. It shows the password was used from the Google Security page.. at the exact time of setting it up..
And then it unchecks itself. I cannot 'check' mail on the account. It works for Contacts, Calendars, Messages.. but not Mail and Notes.
This is only on Yosemite. My other machine has Mavericks and it works as expected. Oy.

  • SCORE, MAJOR BUG

I arrange music for big band and when I get the individual instrument parts looking good, and print them out, I can't get the same page layout if I have to go back and change anything in my individual parts.
If I modify the score and let say something simple like adding a letter at mesure '#45' I have to redo all the formatting for every individual parts (for ALL THE BAND =19 parts)!! before printing the charts...
Does someone can help me to fix this? That's the only MAJOR BUG in Logic.
I will need to go back to Finale.. if nobody helps me.
    jOTaz

I've written a number of big band charts using logic. While it's not the best program for parts, I prefer it to others because a) I know the program so well, b) I can really actualize the arrangement in Logic due to its strong midi and audio capabilities. and c) I know the program so well...
    Here are some tricks that have helped me;
Note that if you change a part by moving the spacing on the staff (to make it fit nicely on two sheets for instance) all other parts that use that same "Staff Style" will have that same spacing change. To avoid this, duplicate or copy staff styles and name them for each part.
When I get the part to look how I want it, I make a PDF of it so that makes it easy to access without opening Logic. Also, you can email the parts that way. This can be done from the OSX print menue where it says; PDF
Get key commands for things like accents, beaming, sharps, flats and force accidental.
Use the 1st and 2nd ending tool to put in things like "chorus" or other rehearsal sign posts.
Obvious things you probably are already doing.
Use the chord symbols and copy them to other parts, they transpose with the part which is nice.
    Use multiple rests.
Use the slash setting on the score style palette for rhythm section parts.
    Don't "justify" last measure
BTW... Logic 7 was way better at all this stuff than Logic 8. I haven't used Logic 9 to see if they've fixed or changed any of the stuff they messed up, I suspect not... If you can use L7, you'll be a lot happier.
Good luck. Check out my stuff www.RadMusic.net and look up "Symphomaniacs" on CD baby.
