New iWeb has a major bug!

The new update for iWeb has introduced a major bug.
Previously, if you had ANY text in a text box presented with a drop shadow, that text would become the image of text and a little warning icon would show in the upper right of the text box. If a photo were presented with a drop shadow, the icon would not appear. Same for a text box inside the main text box. It could be displayed with a drop shadow, but its text could not be highlighted and copied to the clipboard, since it is now an image of text, not selectable text.
Between yesterday's iWeb and today's, whatever drives that icon to appear has changed. Yesterday, no icon and selectable text. Today, icon and no selection possible.
All the text on this page was selectable yesterday without any issue at all. Now it's a text image and cannot be selected. Further, this makes the page completely useless for iPad viewing.
I've tested everything on the page that I can think of to get rid of this little cautionary icon. I switched off all image bullets, all separator and image drop shadows. There ore no cross-out words. Nothing works.

CS3 Printing has a major bug or progamming Issue.

Tried to print a 10ft panoramic landscape with CS3 on an Epson 1290 with disastrous results. Only prints about 4ft then aborts. Worse still what it did manage to print was 5ft of the the panorama compressed into that 4ft, the width had been compressed by my assessment as much as 15/20%.
Previously had no problems with CS2 so I have had to reinstall CS2 to effectively do all my printing (especially long landscapes).
Even gone to the extent of reformatting computer and reinstalling everything from new.
So Adobe can you please tell me what good is it or the point in releasing a program that you cannot trust to print?
I don't trust Photoshop CS3 to do any of my printing anymore, not even A4 or A3 sizes.

No - the Epson driver is set to A3, "Standard printable area" and "Centered".
(The PS CS3 dialogue box has "Center image" and "Scale to fit media". And the correct landscape/portrait button).
What I get is about 3 mm margin one side, and about 25 mm margin on the other. In CS3 Beta, after doing the workaround for non-standard paper sizes, I would get about 3 mm each side for the same photograph. This has now occurred for several prints.
It is somewhat as though PS CS3 has an incorrect value for the width of A3 paper! The extra margin is on the left side of the printer, (the side opposite to the buttons), where the adjustable guide is. It is as though PS CS3 acts as though the paper is about 22 mm narrower, and so treats the guide as set about 22 mm towards the RHS. (I'm describing the effect, not the reason - I don't know what that it).
But contrary to that last paragraph, as I said earlier, the CS3 preview shows that the paper isn't centred, and in fact appears to give an accurate indication that it will print off-centre. PS "knows" where the image will print - it isn't simply that the printer & driver screw up without PS knowing about it.
Whoops! I've just measured the margins in the long dimension too, and they are out. (I hadn't spotted this because the natural margins in the long dimension are bigger, so it isn't quite so obvious). For one picture, they are 25 mm and 46 mm. Suspiciously close the the 22 mm difference for the short dimension.
For one of the images, I just examined the aspect ratios of the original image and the printed image to see if this was an example of squashing that I have read about. No. The former is 1.297, the latter is 1.301 - exactly the same to within the measuring accuracy.

App store has some major bugs!

I have noticed some bugs in iOS 5.0's app store! At times, I literally have to such it down totally to get it to respond, after a search! For some reason, it just stops responding! You can't access or make an app selection, or the see all option, because it just doesn't respond, I literally have to totally shut down the whole app, before I can get it to respond to any selections! Another time, a whole selection, was literally blacked out, when I tried doing another search, and it happens intermittently, so I am not sure what is going on... So I was just wondering has anyone else noticed these issues or had similiar issues with the app store?

I just started noticing that when I search for an app that all search items return "no matches found".

I just got back my REPLACEMENT Zen Touch 40 GB from Creative, and THIS one (different serial number) will only access 9 GB's of the 40 GB hard dri've before no longer writing, and timing out!!!!
My original one (that's why I sent it back) did the same!
There is no way that two completely separate units would have the same 'defect' on the hard dri've. The common thing between them is the MTP firmware!
Creative.... I shall be seeking a full refund for this product.

I told the Customer Rep that I was having the SAME EXACT problem (the player not reading/writing past 9 GB's on my 'replacement' RMA hard dri've unit that I had just been deli'vered) on my Zen Touch 40 GB.
He told me that the MTP firmware would not be the problem, but the Napster-To-Go transfer software was the issue for the player not writing to disk at the 9 GB usage level.
First off, the Napster-To-Go software does NOT control the input/output of the Zen Touch, The friggin' FIRMWARE does that. The software only tells the docked unit that it wants to write data to the hard dri've and waits for the player's hard dri've to comply.
Secondly, the Rep told me to use WMP 0 to try to write past the 9 GB barrier.
Hanging up the phone, I did that. Guess what? WMP-0 ****COULD NOT WRITE TO THE DRIVE AS IT WAS HANGING UP AND TIMING OUT***!!!
That's were I got suspicious....
I saw that the serial number had a pasted tag with the 'new' serial number. That 'new' number smeared with my touching it on its face and was obliterated off the plastic tag by that one touch!
With it being gone anyway....GREAT JOB, CREATIVE.....-------I peeled it off and lo and behold, some one at CREATIVE RMA had totally DEFACED the original serial number off the unit they sent me back as 'new and replaced' I can only surmise that they sent my unit RIGHT BACK TO ME with the same defecti've hard dri've inside (if...as they claim, the MTP firmware is not to blame).
As far as I am concerned, I feel that I have been totally abused as a FORMER Creative customer, and that they tried to send me back my exact same unit and scam me that it had been replaced!
With no 'fake' serial number any longer on my RMA replacement unit, and the original having been DEFACED and hidden with magic marker BY RMA staff or who ever had their hands on it when having been deli'vered to Stillwater, Ok.----I can only gather that I now no longer have any warranty, or chance in h*ll of getting a full refund for Zen Touch
Creative----I am so DISGUSTED---and will NEVER , EVER purchase another solitary product from you.
As far as I can see---I was merely sent back my EXACT and DEFECTIVE unit with NO REPAIR of any kind.

Unfortunately, Safari cannot be updated past 5.1.10 on a Mac running v10.6.8.
So, the options are to upgrade to a newer OS X or use Firefox or Chrome.

MAJOR BUG: New YouTube App displays only lastest 12 uploads in subscription view

The newly updated Youtube app for Apple TV has a major problem. In subscription view the app now shows only the 12 most recent videos uploads. There is no option to see more uploaded videos from the people you subscribe to. This is a pretty big bug or oversight by Apple. In its current state, it's fairly useless unless you want to see only the most recent 12 videos from the people you subscribe to.

Upload your backup to the new iPhone. If it is not satisfactory to you, then you can set it up as new, and go from there.

Major bug in Safari 6: previous domain persists in URL bar when clicking a link

I've noticed an extremely weird and significant bug in Safari 6 / Mountain Lion:
When I'm navigating through a site, sometimes when clicking a link, Safari tries to open the corresponding URL on a previously visited site's domain instead of the current site.
For example:
First, I'm surfing on apple.com. Then, I navigate to another site, say estibot.com. On estibot.com, I click on a link that should take me to:
http://www.estibot.com/tools.html
Instead, safari takes me to http://www.apple.com/tools.html, which of course produces a 'not found' error. Nothing wrong with the link; this is purely Safari's doing.
This happens often, and apparently can happen with any site.
In other words, the domain name of a previously visited site persists in the URL, and the page that I'm trying to navigate to is added to the domain of the PREVIOUS site, not the actual site I'm using.
This is a major bug and is often rendering Safari useless for my workflow. How could a bug like this end up in the finished product?

Having the same problem. It is randomly consistent, i.e. some links consistently get redirected to a specific domain. For example, I am experiencing this issue when using Basecamp and links being misdirected to a specific client's website. However, the criteria for why some links redirect and some do not appears random. This issue does not occur in Firefox. This leads me to believe that it is not a DNS issue. May be a Safari/DNS pair issue or solely a Safari issue. We do use an internal DNS (OS X Server) for browsing internal development wbsites which then rolls over to a public DNS. Again, this problem has never occured in Firefox and consistently occurs in Safari.

On a side note...
Safari's strong-handed rewriting in the address bar as you type is crazy anoying. Or should I say "too helpful?" It seems to break the first rule of usuability: don't change the interface while the user is interacting with it.
And the unified address/search is rediculously annoying for developers who use non-complient top level domains for internal development (such as .dev)
And the new inspector seems like a huge step backwards in usuability. (debatable considering I'm probably not as advanced as some developers.)

0) Situation if you do not fix 1 + 2:
You can not release the Homeview feature like this - without fixing 1 + 2.
If not 1 +2 is fixed you might just as well leave the release of the Homeview feature out of the roadmap for Windows 10. I.e. not ready for use ... or promotion in the UI
1) How come Homeview has not been included - like other namespaces i.e. Libraries into the Common File Dialog Box?
How can such a trivial thing to do be missed? I.e. like forgetting to include Homeview into Explorer (would be absurd).
If not included into the Places Bar of the Common File Dialog Box ... Home View will be unusable - because some very visible applications like Java, Photoshop will not be able to navigate that space easily at all.
2) Finally, please fix obscure situation in the UI namespace in Explorer
Please fix obscures like having Home view, Favorites and Libraries (side-by-side complexity and confusion obscuring usability) - all similar concepts but on a different evolutionary step. I.e. have Favorites and Libraries
hidden - and add i.e. view control like to small buttons whatever to unhide/show the legacy concepts.
In any case - Home view already seem to migrate/move links from Favorites to the Homeview container.
Additionally, Home view should migrate links from Libraries to Home view - and provide similar and better functionality.
Thus going the evolutionary way from Libraries > Favorites > Home - with the later concept of Home providing links to the cloud. Even better, sync relation ships could then later (extended features for Home) be set up among the pins - i.e. concerning
cloud/network syncing.
The UI should always reflect the 1 essentional concept - and not under the hood technologies or different evolutionary stages of the same basic/essential concept (technology/implementation free - abstract: "Home with pining of user data space"

* "X: is a network drive, but it's actually a network drive on my machine." - Is "X" a mapped drive to one of your shared folder on network?
* What is the project directory structure with respect to WEB-INF/web.xml? Are you able to see the three pages (from web & pages folder) in NitroX Editor?
* Does the modified content appear in "Design view" of index.jsp upon restarting NitroX?
Ex:
- modify one of the pages in "web" folder > save the file (alert appears)
- restart NitroX, does index.jsp display the modified content of included page?
* If possible please send the test case project which exhibits the behavior to [email protected]

Major bug in SMTP rate-limiting implementation

I use my home computer to, among other things, host a mailing-list for a fan-club of a contemporary Russian poet. The total list of subscribers is about 40 people and messages are, on average, rare.
However, when a discussion picks up, the number of e-mails can briefly spike easily exceeding Verizon's "you must be spamming" threshold. Imagine: one person asks a question and two others respond. Both the question and the responses get sent to the list, so that's 3x40=120 e-mails. If the discussion gets any longer, the e-mail account gets suspended for several days for exceeding the quota...
I understand, why Verizon rate-limits the outgoing e-mail sending and don't object to it in principle. However, the current implementation has a major flaw. When the threshold is exceeded, instead of blocking all subsequent messages with a permanent error (5xx in SMTP-speak), the server ought to issue a temporary failure (4xx in SMTP-speak).
This would block any spam-bots just as effectively, but allow legitimate messages to be properly queued by the sender's computers for resending. The 5xx code signals a permanent error so instead of being queued, the innocent message is suddenly bounced.
A friend of mine is an RCN-subscriber and we know, that RCN implements rate-limiting exactly this way: if you are sending "too much", your messages will start being temporarily rejected for a while.

Anthony, this is not a "disagreement" -- I'm pointing out a bug. The bug manifested itself with the following two problems:
Although none of the e-mails sent by my computer were spam, I was "identified" as a spammer and my access to SMTP was suspended for days. For no good reason.
Even if it were possible to appeal such automatic verdict (and I did try to talk to a customer support representative), permanent rejections in the case of a temporary error are wrong -- and in violation of SMTP specifications.
I did post the same text under the "New Ideas", but I don't think, "new idea" is the good place for this. I'm not suggesting a new service, but demanding a fix to the existing one.

Major bug with iCloud restore and the multitasking menu that compromises privacy.

I very rarely post on these forums but I’ve discovered what I think is a pretty serious bug. I’ve already sent this as feedback to apple but id be interested to know if anybody else is able to re-create it or has already stumbled across the problem.
I have been able to recreate this problem twice by creating an icloud backup on an iPhone 6 (iOS 8.0) and restoring to an iphone 6 (iOS 8.0).
The problem has to do with the multitasking snapshots that appear after double clicking the home button. On the iPhone it is my understanding that there can be up to 3 ‘different’ snapshots based on when the home button is double clicked and the orientation of an app:
a) The first is when you have an app open in portrait mode and then close it or click the home button to exit. Double clicking the home button from the home screen will then display the multitasking menu including a portrait snapshot of what was last seen in that app.
b) The next is when you're in an app that supports landscape mode and double click the home button whilst ‘in app.’ This displays a multitasking menu with landscape snapshots showing what was last seen when apps were open in landscape (note that if apps can only be shown in portrait than this is the image that will be shown and it will appear sideways).
c) Finally, there is the case when you have an app open in landscape and then directly close it or press the home button, and then double press the home button. This displays a multitasking menu with portrait snapshots; however, to my knowledge these snapshots never change (they will not show the last snapshot from when the app was last open in portrait mode).
The bug is that after restoring from iCloud, the snapshot as described in ‘C’ scenario gets set to whatever was in the icloud backup for scenario ‘A.’ Because this snapshot cannot be changed it is a major bug if for instance you have personal information in the snapshot. In my case, I have my bank statement permanently appear in the snapshot for scenario C.
What’s more, if I have safari is in landscape and then close it; then at some point I open the multitasking bar before opening safari again in portrait mode; then the snapshot flashes up in the actual app for around 1-2 second before disappearing.
At the moment the only solution I can see is to setup my iPhone as new but this will be a major hassle and lose all my settings etc.
Finally, it’s worth mentioning that I think this is a bug across all ios devices with multitasking; however, with the ipads there is an easy solution because you are able to orientate the home screen in multiple ways. This means its possible to update the snapshots in a way that you can’t do on the iPhone because the home screen is locked to portrait.

so to clarify, it appears that the multitasking snapshot for the following scenario will not update: open safari and turn to landscape, exit safari using home button or multitasking bar, then double press home button. That snapshot that appears for safari doesn't ever seem to refresh. Whatever is there is stuck there and whats more it will always pop up in the actual browser for 1-2 secs the next time safari is opened after completing those steps. Im not sure when the snapshot is initially created - it must be the first ever time you close safari but as I said in my post, it also appears to be stored in iCloud backups. So I've tried:
a) hard resetting
b) clearing safari cache and history
c) resetting all settings
d) restoring from iCloud (as mentioned)
e) opening and closing closing safari using the multitasking menu (both the landscape multitasking menu that appears when you're actually in safari in landscape mode, and the multitasking menu that appear when you double press the home button on the home screen).
f) same as above except closing all tbs open in safari before then exiting.

Major Bug? browser stops accepting "security device" password.

The backstory:
1. New computer (Intel I5 windows 7 64 bit, OS all up to date)
2. So I installed firefox 16 3 weeks ago.
3. Configured ff sync on old computer and new as well, sync'd logins and passwords and bookmarks to, old browser to new
4. the sync worked fine, I decide to password my FF logins and passwords in the new computer, no password on old computer tho. alls well for the next 3 weeks.
THE PROBLEM:
This morning, browser asks me for The security device password upon browser launch. I type in password, the same I've used for the last 3 weeks but its not accepted. No mistake in password recall or entry, I made no attempt to change the pw, and capslock is off.
Some sort of pw hash corruption perhaps? I imagine that would be a major bug, if the devs are following.
In the mean while, my old computer has all the info up to 3 weeks ago.
What is the best way to delete corrupt files on new computer then restore with anotehr sync from old computer? I'm hoping to restore PWs while avoid having to reinstall FF 16 on new machine if at all possible.

I don't know if you can recover from a broken master password via sync.
It is probably best to transfer the files directly by copying them to an USB stick.

Major "BUG" in Imovie 9 - Audio Sync Problem on Export !

Well I'm a hard-core Apple user from day one, but unfortunately today I'm not to proud about the latest version of Imovie 9.
It seems there has been a "MAJOR audio sync problem on export" in Imovie 9, since July 2009. Apple knows about this bug for a long time now, but didn't release any bugfix yet!
Here's what it's all about:
It seems if you use the (custom /manual) speed-adjustments and not the preset slider speeds, you will experience (after exporting your movie) annoying bursts of audio from clips that had been set to mude. The strange thing is that you will only experience this audio-bug after exporting, you will NOT experience it in the project playback mode!
Here's what you can do:
Find ALL the clips in your Project that are Speed Adjusted.
Instead of using a "Custom Speed" percentage, use any of the "Preset Speeds"
Preset Speeds on the Slider = 12.5%, 25%, 50%, 100%, 200%, 400%, 800%
Then, export your project as usual.
No more sync issues.
Really hope That Apple will come up with a real BUGFIX soon.
It's a shame that a major bug in a otherwise GREAT PRODUCT, hasen't been fixed yet!

This is TERRIBLE! I have spent so much time working on this project, and I really don't want to adjust the speed settings to the preset levels, BECAUSE I need to motion of the video to match certain musical points. I can't re-film my video, and I needed this project done TODAY. I made a music video with some kids at summer camp, and today is the last day- the day we were supposed to all watch it together, and now, I've got NOTHING!!!! (Because I can't export it without all those glitches!)
I am MAJORLY DISAPPOINTED on this one. I've made movies in windows movie maker before, and purposely used imovie, because you know, everything on macs is supposed to be better. Well, I guess I was wrong.

How to copy iWeb blog to new iWeb site?

I am able to successfully move, via drag and drop, my blog from an old iWeb site to a new one in iWeb.
However, what I want to do is to preserve the old blog as a backup, and them start updating and chagging the blog contet in the new iWeb site. I actually use the blog on my site as a way to list courses.
I've tried to copy files in the iWeb site files, and then reopen iWeb, and I can't see the blog page listed.
Any ideas?

To be able to drop and drag from one site to another in iWeb, you firstly need to have iWeb 09. You then need to open the relevant domain.sites file and you need to have the sites underneath each other, so Site1 above and then Site2 below and all you do is just click on the Blog page on Site1 and just drag it over and down to Site2.
You can't do it individually, but you need to drag from one site to another.
I would also advise that you don't use the iWeb blog, as it is not that good and there are better alternatives out there.
You might like to look at some new software too such as EverWeb - http://www.everwebapp.com. It is very like iWeb, but is actively supported and developed whereas for the last 2 years, iWeb has not been and has not been sold by Apple either.
If you wanted a better blogging system, you could transfer your whole website into WordPress.org. You need to install it on a server at your web host, but it might serve you better and you can create a blog it you want to and you can extend it with the use of plugins. Would not take too long to re-create depending on the size of your site and it is relatively easy to use compared to the other CMS's.
Think about changing before iWeb becomes unusable.
