G50-30 HDTV overscan problem

We got a Lenovo G50-30 with the intel CPU N3530 2.16G for use as a media center, when i plug in the HDTV into the laptop via HDMI the TV overscans the image cutting of parts of the screen, the intel graphics and media control panel dasnt give me the option scale or make a customize Aspect Ratio i have tryed using the latest graphics drivers from both lenovo and intel website but i still can get the option to scale the image to fix the overscan
i have tryed all the resolutions to see if i can get the customize aspect ratio to show and the tv it self also dasnt have any options to fix the overscan, all other computers in the house i have tryed auto fix the overscan or have options to scale the image back even older intel graphics however this is the only computer i have tryed with windows 8.1
the customize aspect ratio seems tobe locked on this computer

hi thtomlinson1,
Sorry for the late Reply..
I would suggest to try the touchpad under the Recovery Menu.
Shut the system down and press the OKR button on your system. (The small button near the charging port).
We'll we are not going to continue the recovery. The Idea is to get to the OKR screen where the touchpad is usable.
If the touchpad is still jumpy, Then I suggest you call Technical Team for Assistance.

  • This is probably an overscan problem, but..

    Hey guys/girls,
I'm a fairly new video (80gb) iPod owner and I have some questions about tv output.
I've been trying to output some subtitled avi files to my television, and the subtitles are getting cut off on the sides and some on the bottom.
The best result I got was cropping a 16:9 format .h264 640x352 file with 14 pixels on the top and bottom, then all of the subs were visible, but the characters were stretched and squatty (as expected, since I do not have a 16:9 television).
The video files in question are in 640x480 resolution divx format, and if displayed using another media player on the television (such as one for the ps2 or xbox media center), they display fine with subtitles intact.
The fact that they are getting "blown up" over the screen size of the tv, even at 640x480 tells me that this is probably an overscan problem, but does anyone have any suggestions on how to get these videos to display properly on my tv?
My next thought was to try cropping the sides of a 16:9 format to make things look closer to 4:3 with borders on all sides, as that would be preferable to having the subtitles cut off.
    Thanks in advance

hi, yeh i had the same problem as u, it would say that the usb is unknown, and yeh it is because u are using the wrong cable.
i had tried, for instance dwnloading the driver n stuff, eventually i found out it was because its the wrong cable, u see i had a previous cable for an old nokia phone, and i mistakly used that instead of the new one. once i plugged in the new cable although they both luked the same, it wrked. u sud luk up the type of cable ur phone takes.
    hope this helps.

  • Connecting 2010 iMac to 46" HDTV Overscan Issues

I have an 2010 iMac and I have purchased a Display Port to HDMI adapter and a HDMI cable connecting to my Sony Bravia 46" HDTV. My question has to deal with overscan issues when it is displaying on the TV, How exactly can I resolve this problem.
    Thank You

It sounds like your Mac is using your TV as a second monitor and has expanded your desktop to encompass both monitors. If you move your mouse to the edge of your Macs screen, and keep going a little bit, the mouse cursor will appear on your TV. Am not sure which edge this will work on, right or left, but give it a try.
You can also open the Display preference pane andset where the two monitors share an edge, or change the configuration to have the second monitor (your TV) mirror your main desktop.
Mirroring is what many people use with TVs so they can easily view movies, photos from ther Mac on the TV with ease.

  • Connecting Macbook Pro 15" to Samsung HDTV - Audio Problem

    Hey guys,
I'm new to these forums so I hope i'm posting this in the correct section! On to my problem...I have a MacBook Pro 15" 2.8 GHz- Late 2009 (model: MB986LL/A) and I'm currently trying to connect it to my new TV which is a Samsung LCD HDTV (model: LN46C610).
The video connection is perfect. I'm using Apple's Mini-DisplayPort to DVI, via DVI to HDMI to my TV.
The audio connection for some reason is not working.
I've tired using an RCA cable, which has a regular audio jack on one end, and the 2 coloured wires (yellow + red) at the other end. No luck.
Now I was told to buy a Mini-Toslink cable to connect from my TV to my MBP. I've plugged the Optical Cable into the TV and the other end to my MBP. Yet I still have no sound.
Can anyone please guide me on how to set this up? Maybe i'm doing something wrong or i'm using the wrong cable. Any help would be greatly appreciated!
    Thanks!
    Karman

Ok i'm in the Utility but i'm confused...where would I go to select it to change the output?
Because everywhere i've tried...I don't see an option to change it...
*EDIT: ok I've noticed when I plug in the mini-toslink cable to my MBP, i notice the output source changes from Internal Speakers to Digital Output*
*EDIT #2: Still no sound when I do that...also on the back of my TV, the digital output connection use to have a red light in it, and now it doesn't anymore?*

  • Macbook to Hdtv scaling problems

    Hi there!
I have a macbook 2008 alumiinium 2.4ghz model. I am trying to connect it to my HDTV. I bought a miniDP to HDMI and connected to my tv and it works great. The picture fits the tv perfectly, however even though it fits the screen I was wanting to use the bigger screen to work on Logic Pro as a 13in screen is a bit of a pain at times. The problem is that so far my macbook screen it being stretched to fit the 42in tv screen so I don't actually get any extra space as my screen just looks bigger!
Any suggestions on setting to fix this? I have an LG television if that helps. I cant for the life of my figure how to get it to work. The picture on my tv is really sharp and great but its just scaling up everything on my mac when what I really want is to be able to use that extra screen real estate for my logic pro projects!!!
    Cheers in advance!
    Tom

There is a chance that your MDP to HDMI adapter is not working properly with audio. I had that problem with one that I had bought. I tried a newer one and the sound came through with no problems.
The only thing I would suggest (before buying a new adapter) is, try a different HDMI cable... if you have one. That way you can rule out that as being the problem.

  • Mac mini Overscan problem

Hello, i just purchased a Mac mini and have connected it with DVI to HDMI onto my Panasonic plasma TV. The problem with this was if i turn overscan on the display is too big and is extended over the sides and some area isn't visble to me. If i turn overscan off there are black areas which is not covered around the sides of the screen. I have never had this with my PC connecting to this TV with HDMI DVI. But for some reason this problem is happneing to me right now...is there a Mac special software that can adjust the screen size so i can stretch the display around to manipulate it to a full screen size without anything being cut out or under cut in my display?

When you connected the PC and had no trouble with overscan, is there a way to capture the details of the timing involved? Because if you apply the same settings from the mini, there is no reason the TV shouldn't react to timing in the same way, meaning no overscan.

  • Lenovo G50-80 80E501E9GE - WLAN Probleme

    http://support.lenovo.com/de/de/products/laptops-and-netbooks/lenovo-g-series-laptops/g50-80/downloads/DS101669
Schau dann bitte, ob die Tips aus diesem Artikel helfen:
    https://support.lenovo.com/us/en/documents/ht080645
    Was du weiterhin testen kannst:
    - die Bandbreite des WLAN-Adapters fest auf 20 oder 40 MHz einstellen (wieder über Rechtklick auf das WLAN-Modul im Gerätemanager -> Eigenschaften -> Erweitert)
    - den Echtzeitschutz des Antivirenprogrammes testhalber einmal deaktivieren / pausieren. Eventuell ein Update durchführen oder auf ein anderes Programm auweichen.

  • Mac Mini/HDTV Audio Problems

I have my Mac Mini connected to my Samsung HDTV. It worked fine and I had audio and video. Somehow, the audio stopped. I hired a professional to come and reconfigure my whole setup and he connected the Mac Mini to our home theater speaker system. It worked, fine. Now, it does not have audio. He and I have tried everything and there is no sound, but there is sound when the computer is not connected to any audio. You can hear the sound come from the computer, and you can hear sound when you connect earphones. The RCA connectors that hook to the microphone outlet will not work with the computer. What am I doing wrong? There is sound...it just will not let my TV or speakers hear it.

Given a pro could not fix it, it isn't easy to troubleshoot this sort of thing over a forum but, let's see if you can adapt from my experience with the Bravia. I am not a pro, hence tolerate my 'elementary' explanation.
    1. A DVI-HDMI cable is connected from the Mini to the HDMI input on the LCD with the little audio jack beside it. Only this HDMI input, that partner's the audio jack, is relevant.
    2. An audio cable is then connected from the Mini's mike jack to the audio jack beside the HDMI input. This arrangement settles audio on the LCD speakers.
    3. To output audio to the 5.1 Receiver (via the LCD), I chose a channel on the LCD, in my case 'TV' ('Sat' was also available). From the 'TV' channel, twin Red/White RCAs are connected to the corresponding 'TV' channel on the 5.1. This settles audio to the 5.1 as well.
    4. Turn on the LCD, select the relevant HDMI channel for the Mini and you have audio on the LCD speakers.
    5. Mute the LCD speakers. Turn on the 5.1, select the 'TV' channel (on the 5.1) and there you have it, audio on the 5.1.
    Hope this helps
    Cheers

  • Laptop to HDTV / resolution problem

When I hook my laptop up to my hdtv and startx, X starts at a wrong resolution, how would I go about fixing this?

You could try out xrandr or lxrandr (a really nice frontend) to set the proper resolution.
    A simple
xrandr --output LVDS --auto --output HDMI-0 --auto
worked for me. Get the right outputs by running xrandr without any parameters.

  • Insignia LCD HDTV region problem

I just bought a 32" Insignia LCD TV at a Best Buy store in my trip to Orlando, Florida. I tested it at the hotel, and it was ok. The problem is that I came back to Brazil and now it is black and white only. Searching in the internet I realized that TVs has to be multi-region to work in every country of the world, and I had no info like that from the salesperson at Best Buy.
Does anybody knows what should I do, since I am not coming back to the US and I suppose Insignia has no technical assistance in Brazil?
    Thanks in advance.
Message Edited by llvasco on 01-16-2009 11:03 PM

    Hey Ilvasco,
Chances are that the reason why TV signals are not being displayed properly is because the United States and Brazil use two different TV broadcast standards (NTSC vs. PAL). Insignia TV’s sold within the United States only recognize the NTSC format, but you may be able to resolve that problem by using a PAL-to-NTSC set-top converter box. I personally cannot attest to how well these converter boxes function, so I’d strongly recommend reading as many reviews as possible before purchasing one!
    Hope this helps you out!

  • G50-45 palmrest heating problem

I recently purchased G50-45 laptop, the palmrest (very next right of trackpad) heat up as I start to use. It is uncomfortable to have my right hand there at the palmtest. Other part of the areas are at normal temperature inlcuding the exhaust and CPU fan area. Do I need to consider servicing my laptop? Also want to know which part of the laptop is right below the right side of the trackpad?

Hi youkarthik and welcome to the community,
Looks like the hard drive is to the right of the touchpad.
Here's your Hardware Maintenance Manual, page 37 shows a pic of it. You'll be looking at it from the bottom.

  • Lenovo G50-30 RAM Bank Problem

Okay so I purchase an additional 4GB of RAM to stick into the laptop as i've read there are 2 RAM slots available. Ran a Speccy scan - also said 2 memory slots with 1 free memory slot. After taking off the back cover, I see Slot B is already in use with 4GB of RAM. There is a Slot A empty. But there is no bank to stick the RAM into. There is only a bank in Slot B - which would be the slot furtherest north directly on top of Slot A. Now why are there two slots but only one bank? Is there somewhere else that can take the extra RAM? Or so I just return for a 8GB piece of RAM? I've read on numerous sites that this laptop has two slots. But seems only one is capable of having RAM inserted into it?

    Hi Geronimofinch,
    Welcome to the Forums.
As per the query we understood that you are facing issue with RAM bank in your Lenovo G50-30 laptop.
As per the specification this model has 2 RAM slots, you can refer the manual 2 RAMs can be fitted to this system.
Click here for the manual and refer page number 41.
    Best regards,
