G560 Docking
Hi community,
I have a Lenovo G560 laptop and I would like a docking station so that hook up my TV, speakers, external hard-drives, etc very easily. Are there any ones out there atm?
Also, I am very interested in looking at upgrading my gfx card. I have the dedicated Geforce 300M inside, but I have heard of some docking stations allowing additional ones plugged into it. Anyone else heard of this?
Thanks,
Joe
I don't think the G560 has a dock port on the bottom of the laptop, so your only option would probably be one of the USB port replicators. Current offerings are on this page: http://shop.lenovo.com/SEUILibrary/controller/e/web/LenovoPortal/en_US/catalog.workflow:show-categor...
The USB2.0 one would be the only one that would work on the G560.
I hate those things as there are some painful workarounds when various 'freezes' happen(i have three where i work and all have given the same issue), but for the most part it works fine.
There are other types that are not lenovo branded(none of which I've tried):
http://www.tigerdirect.ca/applications/category/category_slc.asp?CatId=604&name=Docking%20Stations
The Lenovo Advanced dock is the name of the one that allows you to add a video card, but they are only for the older T61/R61 laptops and require a dock port on the bottom. I highly doubt you can find a USB port replicator with the ability to add a video card.

How many RAM memory slots has G560? I have 3GB of ram, 2 modules, first of 2GB and second 1GB. But when I run CPU-Z program it shows me 2 more free slots for ram. I couldnt find in user manual any information about memory slots and my laptop is under warranty yet so I dont want to open it to check, but I want to know how many slots are really there. Does anybody know?
Solved!
Go to Solution.standard memory: 2 gb (removable) or 4 gb (removable)
maximum memory: 4 gb using a 32-bit operating system / 8 gb using a 64-bit operating system
expansion: 2 sockets

There was no "update failed" message
I wonder whether I'm doing the right thing when I drag to the dock. There's only one ff icon in the applications folder. The first time I was prompted to update it showed that days date next to the icon as if the update was successful. The second time was a few days later but I think it was still the same date next to the icon (25/8/10) I've only just noticed that (on 10/9/10) so can't be sure but I'm sure the second time was around 2nd or 3rd of Sept.
Also, I am running two versions of ff- one is english, the other is the Italian version. They can't be opened at the same time but they seem to talk to eachother in the background, so to speak, because when I open one after a long gap, it opens with all the history and settings of the other one, right up to the last website I went to. I think I closed both when updating because it prompts you to close all programmes and restart (I think/ remember) so I just clicked ok to that prompt.
By the way, I got the prompt to update twice for ''BOTH'' the Italian and the English version- so 4 times altogether so it would seem that ff does recognise them as separate but still has problems concluding the update for each separate one respectively.
Thank you very much if you can help.

Since upgrading to Maverick from Mountain Lion I am unable to open Pages from the Dock. When I click on the pages icon in the dock the icon just keeps bouncing up and down. However, I can open pages by clicking on the icon in the Apps folder. No problems prior to upgrading to Maverick.
Quit Pages. Drag its icon out of the Dock. Create a new one by dragging the application into the Dock. Test.

When I open Pages from the Dock, the page comes up on the screen but immediately hangs up with the rainbow circle spinning. I finally have to force quite to make it go away. It does not ask me to choose a template. This is sporadic, sometimes working, sometimes not. What is going on?
Helo,
Did you try to delete Pages' preferences file(s) in the folder your-user-name/Library/Preferences ?
There are one or more (depends on your OS X version) file like "com.apple.iWork.Pages.plist"
You can also repair permissions with Disk Utility in the folder Applications/Utilities.
Choose the hard drive were Pages is and click the button "Repair permissions".
Or you can re-install Pages.
Hope this will help. -
Safari will not open. Just bounces in the dock and then I force quit it.
This is the report I got after force quitting it. Note that I have received a different one on a prior force quit. Not sure if that is common. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Thread 0x144
User sPlease read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a diagnostic test. It won’t solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find nothing has changed after you complete it.
Third-party system modifications are a common cause of usability problems. By a “system modification,” I mean software that affects the operation of other software -- potentially for the worse. The following procedure will help identify which such modifications you've installed. Don’t be alarmed by the complexity of these instructions -- they’re easy to carry out and won’t change anything on your Mac.
These steps are to be taken while booted in “normal” mode, not in safe mode. If you’re now running in safe mode, reboot as usual before continuing.
Below are four lines of text in monospaced type, which are actually shell commands -- little programs. They’re harmless, but they must be used exactly as given in order to work.
First and most important, don’t run these commands until you have verified that they’re legitimate. Never execute shell commands from an untrusted source without knowing what they do, or at least that they don’t do anything harmful. I’ve posted these same commands, with minor variations, many times on this site. You should be able to find other discussions in which they were used without ill effects. Do that before proceeding.
Some of the commands will probably line-wrap in your browser, but each one is really just a single long line, all of which must be selected. You can accomplish this easily by triple-clicking anywhere in the line. The whole line will highlight, and you can then either copy or drag it. The headings “Step 1” and so on are not part of the commands.
To begin, launch the Terminal application; e.g., by entering the first few letters of its name in a Spotlight search.
Step 1
Copy or drag -- do not type -- the line below into the Terminal window, then press return:
kextstat -kl | awk ' !/apple/ { print $6 $7 } '
Post the lines of output (if any) that appear below what you just entered (the text, please, not a screenshot.)
Step 2
Repeat with this line:
sudo launchctl list | sed 1d | awk ' !/0x|apple|com\.vix|edu\.|org\./ { print $3 } '
This time, you'll be prompted for your login password, which won't be displayed when you type it. You may get a one-time warning not to screw up. You don't need to post the warning.
Step 3
launchctl list | sed 1d | awk ' !/0x|apple|edu\.|org\./ { print $3 } '
Step 4
ls -1A {,/}Library/{Ad,Compon,Ex,Fram,In,La,Mail/Bu,P*P,Priv,Qu,Scripti,Servi,Sta}* 2> /dev/null
Important: If you synchronize with a MobileMe account, your me.com email address will appear in the output of the above command. Change it to something like “[email protected]” before posting.
Remember, this is all drag-and-drop or copy-and-paste, whichever you prefer -- no typing, except your password.
You can then quit Terminal. -
After Effects CS5.5 Wont Open - Application Just Bounces In The Dock.
Hi all,
I appear to have encountered a problem with After Effects... I was working on a project earlier today which usalizes a VideoCopilot plug-in called Element 3D. After a quick break I came back to the project and attempted to load in the 'Free Earth Project' by VideoCopilot. (http://www.videocopilot.net/blog/2012/08/free-earth-project-for-element-3d/). As their site suggests, I had to place a downloaded project folder called 'Earth' into Element 3D's 'My_Models' folder. Immediately after this I tried loading After Effects and encountered the issue. I'm not sure if it's couincidence or directly related which is why I am posting here.
After Effects does nothing but bounce in the Dock. When I right-click the application I'm met with a 'Force Quit' option, and a message saying "Application not responding". I'm on OS X 10.7.4. I'm not able to tell you what version of AE I'm running, only that it's CS5.5, as I cannot lanch it to find out. All other Adobe products work with no problem.
I have already contacted the support team at VideoCopilot and they have sent me an updated build of Element 3D in an attempt to resolve the issue, unfortunately though this did not work. Addiitonally, I have tried booting into Safe-Mode and tried to launch the application from there, as well as using Disk-Utility to 'Repair Permissions'. All of these steps have failed to get AE working again.
If anyone knows of a way to fix this I would be most grateful. I'm working to a very tight deadline and am afraid that I will miss it. Additionally, if anyone has any fixes that doesn't require reinstalling applications that'll be a bonus!
I've also attached a crash-report to this post incase it's of any use in determining the cause of the problem (I couldn't find a way to attach it directly, so the file is hosted on my website - I apologise in advance if this is against forum rules!) - http://www.starfireindustries.org.uk/uploads/8/6/6/1/8661295/ae_error_report.rtf
Thanks in advance,
John.Something similar here:

I cannot open iCal because of a problem. Can anybody help me? The computer will not allow it to open and sends a message to apple each time. The icon has gone from the dock, but ical works on my iPad and I am afraid to sync it with my computer in case it wipes everything .
I have the exact same problem. I have not changed anything. This is probably a bug or something that has gone bad with Mac OS X (10.7.2). I have not found any solution for this on the web.

Help! Finder unable to open and dock not responding
Hi there,
I'm running osx 10.4.11 on my mbp 2.16 ghz, 1gb 667MhZ Ram. my mac was set up for me so that the Hard drive was partitioned. However, the other day the 'boot drive' was almost full and was slowing down the computer really badly, limiting it's functionality (couldnt open itunes etc etc) so i tried to move files onto the other side of the drive to free up a bit of space and seem to have caused a complete nightmare.
not only can i not open finder at all...all the icons on the desk top have disappeared and the dock doesnt respond at all, except for safari and system preferences. spotlight isnt working either and i've tried to repair everything using disk utility function on the intstall disk...and guess what...thats not working either, it tells me there's nothing to repair.
i really dont want to have to 're-format' the whole computer and am aware that I've probably moved a key thing to the wrong part of the computer. is there anyway i can fix this? am i able to access the computer without the need of an icon (a kind of ctrl/alt/delete function that you might use for a task manager on a pc?)
any ideas?
HEEELLLPPP!I think, as you've suspected, you moved critical items from the System, out of their necessary location. Unless you have another Mac, with firewire, you are probably going to have to reinstall the OS. This is not a reformat, just an install of the OS. I think it will be a lot easier than accessing that Mac with another Mac in Target Disk mode, then trying to find out which system files were moved.

Is there a way of putting firefox bookmarks folder on the dock
Is there a way of putting firefox bookmarks folder on the dock. not just one bookmark. i have done that. but i want all of them in stack or something.. similar to how windows did it in the start menu. its annoying that you have to open firefox first to access your links.
i got my first imac yesterday and loving it!!! albeit the text is a bit small but i have found the zoom!
thanks in advancePerhaps you don't know how to bring icons into the Firefox Toolbar. You can put many things up there, including Bookmarks. You can also remove an icon or rearrange the order of icons.
From View>Toolbars>Customize
Here is the Bookmarks icon (next to the History icon) from which you can open all your bookmarks directly. And if you can remember a keyword, it will find that one, or any others that come up with that keyword. It's really quite convenient to use and will stay updated with any new bookmarks that are added.
This is showing the Bookmarks open, which can be closed by clickng on the small x. -
Can you show applications open directly in menubar instead of dock?
Hi there
I want to disable dock totally
But I want to get the functionality in my menu bar
So i want to show icons of the apps which are open (or at least favourite apps), directly on the menubar
I don't want them in a folder, I already have an app which does that called xMenu
I want the actual icons of the Favourite/IfPossible:OPEN apps to directly appear in menubar
Is there anything that can get some/all of this functionality?Well, there probably is; however, a word of caution: the Menu bar is controlled by the System and it may have undesirable results changing system behavior.
What is it about the dock that bothers you?
I have all the apps I use on a regular basis in the dock - not a folder, mind you - alias icons to the apps themselves which all open with one click. I rarely use the system supplied Applications folder in the dock. At last count, I had almost 60 app icons in the dock, which is minimized with significant magnification - I have them organized so I can usually hit the right one without having to search. You can also check "automatically show and hide the Dock" so it'll only show itself when moving the cursor over the area. -
IPod freezes when playing from a docking station...Any ideas about a fix?
I have had my current iPod for a couple of years now, and until recently it has worked flawlessly. Over the past couple of months a problem has develoed when I play my iPod from a docking station. When I play the iPod from it's cradle (connected to my HK Soundsticks) or from my JBL Speaker Base, the iPod plays fine for the first few songs. After a few songs, the iPod stops in the middle of song and skips to the next song, then skips three of four times without playing at all and utltimately locks up completely. The problem seems to arise when I am simultaneously playing and charging.
Any ideas?
I am using a 40mb, clickwheel, iPod.All I can suggest is to re-encode the video as m4v with QT Pro, there might've been a problem in encoding. Also, try sending this same video (setting TV Out to Yes) with the iPod not plugged into the dock and with an Apple RCA cable, if you have one, hooked up to a TV. If that works, the dock connector might be damaged (unlikely) but it's possible. So once you've re-encoded, see if the dock situation works then. Good luck.

My ipod touch isn't recognized by my computer or my dock
My ipod touch 4th generation won't connect to my computer or my memorex dock! I tried connecting my ipod with 2 different usb cables to both my computer and my mothers and it wasn't recongized at all by both. I also tried connecting it through an external port from my laptop fan thing, but that was unsuccessful as well. I've had some past trouble getting my ipod to connect to my computer (windows 7), but once I put the usb back or changed the usb port in a few times it always recognized it. Everything is fine with the wifi sync, its just not working so I can connect via usb to my computer. I've been trying to get it to do so for the past 2 hours. Also, it won't charge in my docking station! It will play music, everything its supposed to do, except charge! The funny thing was that it worked fine about 2 hours ago and had no problems whatsoever with it! I have a feeling these two are somehow connected! I haven't done anything to it either like dropped it or splashed water on it, like I said a few hours ago it was perfectly normal!! And yes, I've been on pretty much every page of this website and google looking for answers and upadted and unintstalled and reuntalled and resest and rebooted! So please unless you'll be the answer don't put it down! This is my last resort before the apple store! Please help! Thank you!! (:
All I can suggest is to make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store

Z68A-GD80(G3) Can no longer read external hd dock after flashing beta bios
I flashed E7672IMS.J31 Beta Bios because I was on a very old bios that was not compatible with my GTX 970 card I just bought. Flashing the bios fixed my 970 compatibility but in the process made it so my 2 external hd docks no longer worked (at this time on windows 7). self powered usb harddrives still worked though. At this time my sata mode was IDE which I thought might have had to do with it since it doesnt have hotswap. I assumed it was an issue with some drivers I installed after flashing the beta bios and I was due for upgrading/reformatting anyways so I enabled AHCI and hot swap then did a clean install of windows 8.1. The external hard drives still don't read!! I've used multiple different hard drives and different usb ports including usb 2.0. The docks are usb 3.0 and I use them daily to edit photos from my work. Any ideas of things I could try?
My pc:
intel 2500k
16gb Corsair vengeance ram
MSI 970 GTX GPU
Corsair 750w power supply
Z68A-GD80(G3) motherboard
E7672IMS.J31 Beta BiosCould the issue be that I didn't download the Intel Management Driver after installing the beta bios I flashed? Maybe I could try that first, which one from this list do I use with my pc setup?
thanks for the help!

Try going back to E7672IMS.J20 OFFICIAL. Use the recommended flashing method with provided archive only: https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=163870.msg1215101#msg1215101
