Gatekeeper

Gatekeeper ruined my dashboard development completely. No security certificate for Dashboard Widgets. Here are some tips to fix this:
“App can’t be opened because it is from an unidentified developer”
Since OS X Mountain Lion, the Mac defaults to preventing applications from unidentified developers or sources from being launched. You’ll discover the message in OS X 10.8 when you try to launch a Mac app that didn’t come from a verified source or from the Mac App Store, and you’ll get an alert dialog that says “[App name] can’t be opened because it is from an unidentified developer”.
This new security feature is called GateKeeper, and it doesn’t mean you can’t run those unverified apps on the Mac, you just have to either temporarily skirt the security blanket of GateKeeper, or turn off the app limitations entirely.
Temporarily Get Around “App Can’t Be Opened” Gatekeeper Alert Message
This is probably the best option for most users, since it maintains some security:
Right-click (or control-click) the application in question and choose “Open”
Click the “Open” button at the next dialog warning to launch the app anyway
You can do this with any third party app that gives you this warning dialog and open it anyway.
If you get tired of constantly right-clicking apps to open them, return to pre-Mountain Lion levels of app security by turning off Gatekeepers app verification completely.
Disable GateKeeper’s Unidentified App Developer Prevention Completely
This is generally best for advanced users who know what apps to trust and not to trust:
Launch System Preferences from the Apple  menu
Choose “Security & Privacy” and then click the “General” tab, followed by clicking the lock icon in the corner to unlock the settings
Look for “Allow applications downloaded from:” and choose “Anywhere”
Accept the security warning and allow
You can now launch any app from any location or developer
Bypass Gatekeeper in OS X Mavericks with Security Preferences
Gatekeeper is an application level security feature on the Mac that aims to prevent unauthorized and unidentified apps from being launched in OS X, thereby preventing potential security problems like exploits or trojans from running on a Mac. The feature is most often encountered when an app has been downloaded from the web, and upon attempting to launch the app a warning dialog will prompt the user with a message saying something along the lines of “This app can’t be opened because it is from an unidentified developer“. We’ve covered how you can get bypass that error message on a case-by-case basis by using the right-click “Open” trick, but the latest version of OS X brings another option which may be easier for some users to selectively launch apps and bypass Gatekeeper. This is advantageous because users can continue to retain the strict security preference of leaving Gatekeeper enabled and intact, which is generally recommended.
Bypass Gatekeeper App Launch Warnings from System Preferences
This solution is temporary, providing a per-application launch bypass. It does not disable Gatekeeper in OS X.
Attempt to launch the application inquestion, encountering the normal “can’t be opened” message, then click “OK”
Launch System Preferences by choosing it from the  Apple menu
Select the “Security & Privacy” control panel, and go to the “General” tab
Under the “Allow apps downloaded from:” look for the following message: “appname.app was blocked from opening because it is not from an identified developer.”
If you trust the application and want to launch it bypassing Gatekeeper, click “Open Anwyay”
If the “Open Anyway” option is not visible then you likely must unlock the security preferences by clicking the little padlock icon in the corner and entering an administrative password.
Choosing “Open Anyway” will launch the application in question directly from Security System Preferences, and you’ll be able to use it as normal. This approach is obviously slightly more time consuming than using the right-click Open trick, but it may be advantageous for certain users in select situations.
Gatekeeper is really aimed at protecting novice and average Mac users, while advanced OS X users who are more comfortable with things may find the warnings to be intrusive or annoying. If you don’t want to receive the warnings at all, you can simply disable Gatekeeper completely through the Security System Preferences by choosing “Anywhere” from the allow apps list.
This feature was first introduced to the Mac with OS X Mountain Lion, but the “Open Anyway” option inside the Security preferences is new with OS X Mavericks.

  • Gatekeeper failure: Application is damaged and can't be opened. You should move it to the Trash

    I have installed Eve online.
With the first try to start it I received message "Eve Online is damaged and can’t be opened. You should move it to the Trash".
I know my Gatekeeper may protect me from apps downloaded from internet so I tried open Eve online application with Ctrl also. I tried open it using context menu also.
Everything ended with same message = Damaged move to Trash.
Re-download and reinstall resulted in the same behavior (almost 8GB download).
However I found out later on that disabling Gatekeeper by selecting "Allow applications downloaded from: Anywhere" is the only way how to solve it.
When Gatekeeper is off application works without any problem.
So my question is: Is this behavior of Gatekeeper correct?
I do not think so. Gatekeeper should stop mark applications as broken if they are not. It can be marked as dangerous. It can be marked as Blocked. But it should say always: Gatekeeper marked it as dangerous because ... Gatekeeper blocked it from start because ....
Am I right? Should I write a bug report for this or there is something I missed?

    Hi, thanks.
To be honest I checked it and I found their suggestion to switch off Gatekeeper.
However I expected I can avoid Gatekeeper using Ctrl or starting application from context menu because I prefer to keep Gatekeeper switched on for regular work.
I know now, that I cannot. The only way is to disable Gatekeeper generally.
But the question is: Do you think that message "Application is broken..." is valid for case when Application is evaluated by gatekeeper as potentially dangerous? Based on this experience I see it wrong. Application is working ok and Gatekeeper marks it as broken.

  • Visibroker gatekeeper will not start in SSL mode on Linux

Has anyone succesfully configured the Visibroker Gatekeeper with SSL on a Linux Platform?
All of the installations of 9iAS 1.0.2.2.1 I've performed on a Linux platform install the shared library "libvbj30ssl.so" in the $806_HOME/vbroker/bin directory with a 0-byte size. Unfortunately, this shared object library is required to allow the Gatekeeper to start in SSL mode. Furthermore, I checked the Borland website and learned that the Visibroker SSL pack does not support the Linux platform (yet). So my question to Oracle is "Do you REALLY support the configuration of Discoverer Plus w/SSL on Linux"? If so, what Borland Visibroker components are you using and why is the shared object library I speak of installed with a 0-byte size? Is this a simple error in the compilation of the shared object library during installation or did you guys purposely zero out the libvbj30ssl.so shared object library to simplify your port from Solaris to Linux?

  • Java Web Start applications and Gatekeeper

As more of our customers upgrade to Mac OS X 10.8 or later or purchase new machines we've had to deal with helping more of them work around Gatekeeper for our Java Web Start deployed applications. Many discussions found on the web show the confusion that surrounds this technology and how it interacts with Web Start apps. Most "solutions" suggest various security changes like allowing apps downloaded from anywhere. The one we most often employ is to control-click the JNLP file and choose Open. Then the dialog has an option to "install" the application anyway.
My take-away from the discussions has been that Gatekeeper is looking for what it considers to be executable code, including JNLP files and Java applets, to be signed via codesign which is stored as an extended HFS attribute and as a result is not transferred over HTTP unless the file is wrapped into some bundle like xip or in a disk image (dmg). Neither of these are a click-and-run experience and move me from the realm of Web Start deployment to just wrapping it up as an Apple app bundle.
Before OS X 10.8 (Mountain Lion) was released, Scott K published on the Talking Java Deployment blog an article titled Java applications and Gatekeeper where he suggested the best possible user experience comes from creating an app that is bundled with Java and signed with an Apple Devloper ID using the codesign tool. (Note this is not the same as the code signing from jarsigner in the JAR/META-INF. The article ends, edited, with a statement that Gatekeeper does not apply to command-line tools like java, javac, javah and so on. It has been my experience that it does seem to apply to javaws or whatever is used on the Mac to launch a Web Start app from a JNLP file. It is as if Apple has said they don't trust the Java security model for downloaded dynamic code and are adding an extra restriction that seems to severely limit the "click-and-run" functionality of Web Start or applets.
Is there anything I can do to get a JNLP file to "just work" for Mac end users like it use to before 10.8 / Gatekeeper?
Is there anything in the works from Oracle to fix this issue?
    Jacob

Probably not the case here, but considering it is a development machine it is something to check. The symptoms you describe are exactly what happens when you setup JWS applications to be remotely debugged, and specify suspend=y. In that case, before the application launches, it waits for Eclipse (or some other development environment) to connect to it. I do this all the time and what happens before Eclipse attaches to the process is exactly what you describe. Check the JAVAWS_VM_ARGS to see what VM parameters are being used.

  • Problem in CCM and Gatekeeper

In my network there are an cisco call manager and cisco gatekeeper.I added the gatekeeper on a CCM bacause of IP Phones can call ATA end points.I finished this task succesfully but there are a problem . When I call from IP phone to ATA endpoints I can not hear ringback tone but If I call from ATA end point to IP Phone I hear ringback tone . Please give me advice

You don't need a Gatekeeper for ATA. ATAs are commonly SCCP or SIP devices, these have no use of a GK. Only H.323 devices can make use of a GK.

  • Gatekeeper is blocking zips of graphics. I've turned Gatekeeper to All, but it's still turning the pictures to mush.

So I go to my favorite source for graphics. They have a download button for downloading all of the pictures in the set. I un-archive the zip file and I see a folder with grey "exec" icons. ***! Photoshop thinks it's a Unix file, not a jpg.
Could it be the web site has screwed something up, or is it Apple's Mountain Lion?

This doesn't sound like it has anything to do with Gatekeeper.  Gatekeeper simply prevents certain kinds of apps from opening.  You should set Gatekeeper back to the default (middle) setting for the best balance of safety and flexibility.
What is the extension at the end of the problem files' names?  Is it .jpg or .jpeg, or is it something else, or is it missing entirely?  (Note that you may need to select the file and choose File -> Get Info in order to see the full filename with the extension, as extensions can be hidden.)

  • Gatekeeper settings problem

I can't set the gatekeeper settings to allow downloaded apps. It won't let me select the "Anywhere" tickmark. Everytime I select the tickmark it'll jump back to "Mac App store and identified developers". Any help appreciated!

I'm having this same issue. I'm on the administrator account. I open System Preferences. I open Security & Privacy. I click the padlock in the lower-left to allow changes. I successfully authenticate. I try to change "Allow apps downloaded from:" to "Anywhere" and it won't allow me. The radio selection simply jumps back to the previous selection.

  • JavaFX 2.2.4 and  Mac OSX Gatekeeper

Anything in the new javafxpackager in 2.2.4 that will make it easier to create signed packages acceptable to Mac 0SX Gatekeeper?
Between the .app being created and the DMG being created there is a codesign step that need sto take place. I have tried to make the DMG manually, but it doesn't turn into an "installer" just a disk image.
    Help!

Yeah that section wasn't clear to me at first
To create a Gatekeeper-friendly package (for Mac OS X 10.8 or later, see Section 6.3.5.1, "Mac OS X"),
the application in the DMG package must be signed. It is not necessary to sign the DMG file itself.
To sign the application, you can use a technique described in Section 6.3.3, "Customization Using Drop-In Resources"
to provide a config script to be executed after the application bundle is populated.
For sample DemoApp, the config script is located in the package/macosx/DemoApp-post-image.sh
and has the content shown in Example 6-7.I am guessing it uses naming conventions to identify the script to run? package/macosx/<appname>-post-image.sh?

  • I can call from Branch through Gatekeeper to CUCM. But cannot call from CUCM through Gatekeeper to any Branche.

    Hello All,
I can Call from any Branch office to CUCM through Gatekeeper. But I cannot call from CUCM through Gatekeeper to any Branch.
    My CUCM version is 9.1.2
    Regards
    Bahlul

Do you see anything shw up on the debugs on the branch router?
Check debug h225 asn1 to see if there is a setup coming from the CUCM. If not, that means the CUCM is not receiving the IP address of the branch gateway from the GK. This could mean a config issue on the GK with respect to the branch gateways, or on the UCM.
Take debug gatekeeper main 10 from the gatekeeper. These debugs will show what's happening on the GK while processing the incoming ARQ from CUCM.
Also please upload the config of the GK, branch gateway here.

  • Can H323 gatekeeper in the same box as Gateway?

The customer is goint to setup Polycom between 2 offices. With the limited budget, can I setup one 2610 working as both Gatekeeper and Gateway for each site?
If yes, which IOS is recommended? Please provide a link for sample configuration.
If no, which IOS is recommended for GK and GW? Please also provide a link for sample configurations.
    Thanks,

As the example at this link: http://www.cisco.com/en/US/customer/tech/tk652/tk701/technologies_configuration_example09186a00800a9a56.shtml
Both GW and GK are on a 2600 router. What I would like to know is can I have only one 2600 acting as both GW and GK? What IOS I need to use?
Or, this example is only for VoIP not really applicable for Polycom VC?

  • IOS gatekeeper Load Balancing?

    To the experts
I have 3662 running IOS 12.3T with GK enabled.
I wonder if I can load balanced outgoing calls via different 02 GKs? (weighted or fair balanced 1-1)
    Call1: MyGK (local zone) --> GK1 (remote zone1)
Call2: MyGK (local zone) --> GK2 (remote zone1, same zone)
    Call3: MyGk (local zone)--> GK1 (remote zone1)
    ... so on ...
I think sequencial and blast does not help here. Also, GK1 and GK2 is not Cisco Based (3rd party GK)
Question: Is there any way for this scenario? DNS round-robin will help if I declare only one remote zone with DNS and I configure my BIND DNS Server to return multiple IP address to MyGk for load balancing?

The Cisco High-Performance Gatekeeper feature introduces new gatekeeper functionality and modifications for facilitating carrier class reliability, security, and performance into Cisco's Voice Network solution portfolio. These H.323 standard-based features have carrier grade reliability and performance characteristics with a robust open application protocol interface to enable development of enhanced applications like voice VPNs and wholesale voice solutions.
The new gatekeeper is characterized by the following:
"Increased support for back end applications.
"Increased performance on a single gatekeeper.
"Alternate gatekeeper support to the gatekeeper. Each alternate gatekeeper, or GK node, shares its local zone information so that the cluster can effectively manage all local zones within the cluster. Each alternate gatekeeper has a unique local zone. Clusters provide a mechanism for distributing call processing seamlessly across a converged IP network infrastructure to support IP telephony, facilitate redundancy, and provide feature transparency and scalability.

  • Max number of zone prefix in a Gatekeeper.

Hi. I have a 3640 running as a gatekeeper. I had configured several zone prefix in the local zone. I'm a little concern about the limit of this table, Do you know what if there a maximum of zone prefixes or just depend of the memory of the machine?
    Thanks!

For gatekeepers, do not exceed 2000 zone prefixes. Tthe directory gatekeeper ("super-GK") is a special case. And as you said it involves the memory.

  • 7980 video call to a H323 gatekeeper-registered Polycom

    Hi,
Only the audio is working for the point to point call from a 7980 that is registered with CUCM to a H.323 VSX 7000 registered to a Cisco IOS gatekeeper; there is no video. Although both endpoints have video capabilities. The call flow: 7980 (SCCP) -> H.225 trunk gatekeeper controlled -> gatekeeper -> VSX 7000. What is missing to prevent the video from showing up?
    Thanks

After adding a H.323 client, the CUCM is registered to the gatekeeper using a RasAggregator trunk and video is now working.
