Gateways in vSPhere installation

Hi,
We have a working setup with Cisco UCS blades and EMC VNXe storage. But we have to move the routing from a router to internal Layer 3 routing in the switch (Cisco Catalyst 3650).
Inn this environment the management network is on the 10.203.100.x subnet. The ESXi gateway is therefore 10.203.100.1.
The VM data network is on the 10.203.97.x subnet.
The storage on subnets 10.203.94.x and 10.203.93.x.
All these subnets are on different vlans also.
In the switch, we obviously need routing for 10.203.100.1, because the ESXi management network need access to storage vlans and to DNS on the 97-subnet.
But why do we also need routing for 10.203.97.1? Only VM data network traffic is going on this subnet. Is the answer internet connectivity? My understanding is that the VMs default gateway only will be used for hosts outside of its internal subnet. Or is the reason that we maybe want to run vSphere client from the VM?
I am just wondering here if this will work without the 97.1 gateway entry in the switch setup (a vlan SVI).

Hi Atle,
The idea is that your management vmks for the ESXi hosts will use the first network to manage those hosts through the vSphere client. The VM data VLAN would be used for the virtual guests within ESXi. For example when you create a windows server you could put the vNIC in the VM data VLAN and it would use that VLAN as it's default gateway to reach anything off network.

  • How to redirect on Embedded PL/SQL Gateway installation

    Hi,
I'm working with APEX on a server where the installation was made via Embedded PL/SQL Gateway (all previous installations on other servers where made via Mod Pl/SQL, so I'm not familiar with this one).
I have 2 applications now, both of them have already DNS Alias created so users can access with a Friendly url. But both of this alias goes to the same application, cause I don't know where to define this (I believe on Mod Pl/SQL installation this was easy to configure on the httpd.conf file under Apache directory).
Does anyone know how can I do this ?
Also the other issue I'm facing is that I can access with any of these alias, but it automatically changes the url to the IP and Port of the server. Is this also configurable via Embedded PL/SQL Gateway?
    Thanks in advance.
    Regards,
    Ivo

This sounds very similar to my situation which I have already posted a thread about, which might have started on upgrade to Windoze 7.
I've tried changing ports, reinstalling apex and fiddling with all sorts of things.
Strange thing is - it works if I unplug the internet cable.
I can't find any logs which provide anything useful.

Steps to Prepare and Sequence the Application:
Phase 1:  Prepare vSphere install to be used in your sequence (to be performed prior to sequencing)
Clear %TEMP% directory on machine you are using to prepare the install
Create a folder that will be referred to as "vSphereInstDir"
that install files are copied to
Download the vSphere 5.5 client from your vSphere management server
Run the installer for the vSphere Client
Once at the Language Selection portion of the installer,
using windows explorer browse to the %temp% directory and copy the files that were just created when the vSphere installer extracted to a directory (name it vSphereInstDir)
    Kill the installer
Find VMware-viclient.exe in the files you just copied
    and run it
Once at the "Welcome to the installation
wizard" stage of the installer, using windows explorer browse to the %temp% directory and copy the files that were just created into the vSphereInstDir
    Kill the installer
Find the VMware vSphere Client 5.5.msi in the vSphereInstDir,
in the second set of files you copied over
Using Orca, open the VMware vSphere Client 5.5.msi
Drop the following rows from the msi (some of the rows may have additional text at the end of the names) (InstallExecuteSequence/VM_InstallHcmon,
    InstallExecuteSequence/VM_InstallHcmon_SetData,
    InstallExecuteSequence/VM_InstallUSB,

    InstallExecuteSequence/VM_InstallUSBArbritratorSetData,
    InstallExecuteSequence/VM_StartUSBArbSvc)
Save the VMware vSphere 5.5.msi in place
Copy the vSphereInstDir to a network location that
can be used during sequencing on your Sequencer
Phase 2:  Sequence the vSphere Client
Pre-requisites:  All of the latest available VC++ redist (x64 and x86) are installed on the Sequencer VM
Copy vSphereInstDir to your temporary install directory on your Sequencer (mine is C:\temp)
    Start up the Sequencer
Click Create a New Virtual Application Package
Click Next with Create Package (default) selected
Click Next on the Prepare Computer screen, taking
    note of any findings
Click Next with Standard Application (default) selected
Choose Perform a custom installation, then click Next
Input the Virtual Application name (vSphere Client
    5.5 for example)
Enter the Primary Virtual Application Directory (C:\vSphere55
    for example) and click Next
Using Windows Explorer find the Visual J# install (vjredist64.exe) in the vSphereInstDir you copied over.  Install using defaults
Using Windows Explorer, find and install the vSphere client using the VMware vSphere Client 5.0.msi located in the vSphereInstDir you copied over.
Change the installation directory to use the Primary Virtual Application Directory you configured above (C:\vSphere55 for example).  Install using
    defaults
While the sequencer is still monitoring changes connect to the 4.1 environment to get the files needed.  To do this, launch the vSphere client and connect
to your 4.1 environment.  When prompted, choose RUN to install the files needed for the 4.1 environment.
While the sequencer is still monitoring changes connect to the 5.0 environment to get the files needed.  To do this, launch the vSphere client and
connect to your 5.0 environment.  When prompted, choose RUN to install the files needed for the 5.0 environment.
With the sequencer still monitoring changes, after the additional environments have been installed, delete all of the language folders from the install locations
that are not required.  You will find that there are language folders in each of the different modules that are installed.  Make sure look in every folder.  This will free up approximately 300mb from the package.
When done, check the box to finish the sequence and continue cleaning up the sequenced application.

    Hi,
    Please clarify me the following.
You specified the login name as 'SADMIN'. Is this the login id, that you used for your Operating System? "Entered name account authentication gateway server name" expects you to enter the NT login, not the DB login.
You may also expected to specify your network name, if your login id is specific to a network. e.g Oracle\Rajkumar assuming that Oracle is your network and Rajkumar is the user name.
You may not expected to have the DSN created, as Gateway may not be interested in knowing which DB you are connected to. And you neither enter the 'DB name' anywhere in the 'Gateway Server Configuration', if my understanding is right.
    Please confirm.

  • Accessing SQL Server from ORACLE using Transparent Gateway

So I had downloaded the gateway installer and was following the guide here to set up the Transparent Gateway for SQL Server: http://www.orafusion.com/art_orahs.htm
After I had created the database link, I was prompted the following error when trying to do a simple select statement from the SQL Server DB:
    >
ORA-12154: TNS:could not resolve service name
12154. 00000 - "TNS:could not resolve the connect identifier specified"
*Cause:    A connection to a database or other service was requested using
a connect identifier, and the connect identifier specified could not
be resolved into a connect descriptor using one of the naming methods
configured. For example, if the type of connect identifier used was a
net service name then the net service name could not be found in a
naming method repository, or the repository could not be
    located or reached.
    *Action:
    - If you are using local naming (TNSNAMES.ORA file):
    - Make sure that "TNSNAMES" is listed as one of the values of the
NAMES.DIRECTORY_PATH parameter in the Oracle Net profile
    (SQLNET.ORA)
    - Verify that a TNSNAMES.ORA file exists and is in the proper
    directory and is accessible.
    - Check that the net service name used as the connect identifier
    exists in the TNSNAMES.ORA file.
    - Make sure there are no syntax errors anywhere in the TNSNAMES.ORA
file. Look for unmatched parentheses or stray characters. Errors
in a TNSNAMES.ORA file may make it unusable.
    - If you are using directory naming:
    - Verify that "LDAP" is listed as one of the values of the
NAMES.DIRETORY_PATH parameter in the Oracle Net profile
    (SQLNET.ORA).
    - Verify that the LDAP directory server is up and that it is
    accessible.
    - Verify that the net service name or database name used as the
connect identifier is configured in the directory.
    - Verify that the default context being used is correct by
specifying a fully qualified net service name or a full LDAP DN
    as the connect identifier
    - If you are using easy connect naming:
    - Verify that "EZCONNECT" is listed as one of the values of the
NAMES.DIRETORY_PATH parameter in the Oracle Net profile
    (SQLNET.ORA).
    - Make sure the host, port and service name specified
    are correct.
    - Try enclosing the connect identifier in quote marks.

    Hi kgronau,
    >
After changing a listener.ora file you need to STOP and START the listener to get the changes loaded. It looks like your listener is not serving the 1524 port which could be related to the fact that you didn't stop/start the listener after you've edited the listener.ora file.
... But as stated earlier - please do not use a 10.2 listener to start an 11g gateway. Instead configure the listener of the gateway home.
    >
I did restart my listener under services.msc whenever I make the changes but there are no effect. Please also note that I can only find "OracleOraDb10g_home1TNSListener" under my services.msc. There is no 11.2 Listener. I did install the gateway and the installation was successful as far as I can tell. But perhaps because there's no 11.2 Listerner under my services.msc, could that mean it was a bad installation?
    >
Next point is the tnsping you've used is 11.2. You need to make sure that you use the tnsping of the Oracle Database home as the database initiates the gateway connection so the database home tnsnames, ora needs the tns entry for the gateway.
    >
My current PATH environment variables setting is as follow: C:\oracle\product\11.2.0\tg_1\bin;C:\oracle\product\10.2.0\db_1\bin; So perhaps, I just need to ensure the 10.2 ORACE home is the first?

  • Question about gateway package

When I follow Oracle Transparent Gateway for DRDA installation guide, I don't quite understand DRDA server configuration part. What is Gateway package store procedure? Do we have to define it on DB2 server in order to make oracle gateway work?
    Thanks.

Aww... there's nothing cheaper? I think it's a good deal for unlimited data, but I thought they would offer a limited data package for say 15$. Thanks for your help.

  • Installation CUCM 10.X & Unity Connection

    Hello,
I have a question about the actual installation of both systems, so i'm not using a pre made file on the website of cisco which you convert to a floppy image.
When i installed CUCM, i made my lab switch the NTP server by giving it the following command:
    - config#ntp master 1
The call manager saw all of this & the default gateway also and it al worked perfectly and the Call Manager installed. When i did the same installation for Cisco Unity it did not work, it would not reconise the NTP nor even the default gateway and the installation did not proceed. This strook me as very weird, as the installation of the call manager did succeed with no issues.
Rebooted the switch : Didn't work
Resetted it as NTP : Didn't work
Laptop as NTP: Didn't work (Registry in Windows 8), if someone knows a decent program it would be a plus
Cisco Unity Connection wasn't even able to contact the default gateway of the vlan, it was 1 switch. The vlan had an SVI and IP routing was enabled.
Does anyone have any suggestions to these kinds of problems, which approaches did work?
    Kind Regards,

    Hi,
So yes the virtual machines had the same network settings and were in the same IP subnet aswell.
In ESXi i configured both the network cards, 1 active & 1 backup so i didn't need to create a port channel. I put up 2 VLAN's one for the management of the ESXi and one for the UC applications, so tagging was enabled.
My switch configuration was extremely basic
Just 2 vlan's 100 for data & 200 for voice, this resembles the environment it will be later installed.
The vlan's were SVI's and ip routing was enabled, i was able to ping from one vlan to another.
    It had the command:
    NTP Master 1
I knew it worked because i forgot during the installation to correct the clock, it was still 1993 and i had an issue with uploading the licenses, i resolved this.
So call manager was getting all of the NTP information
But during the Unity installation it all didn't work/respond, still very weird. The ports to the ESXI were configured as Trunk

  • Picking a Gateway:  Router or Mac OSX Server

I'm planning on implementing Leopard Server at my business in the near term. It will be running on a PowerMac G5, and primarily used for file sharing amongst a team of about 10 employees. I also will use the VPN capabilities to access the network from home, and will take advantage of things like iChat, Wikis, and Print Serving over time.
The documentation describes using the Mac as a gateway through the installation of dual ethernet cards. Alternatively, I could continue to use my linksys router as a gateway. I didn't find much qualitative discussion on how to pick between the options. In general, I'd like some advice on whether to run services such a DCHP, VPN, etc... on the router or the OSX server.
Any suggestions on how to make the decision?
    Thanks,

    Hi
I echo Leif’s suggestions although you could change your router for a ZyXel one which does offer true NAT/SPI Firewall capabilities and has a wealth of logging features and notification if security is a concern. There are others. I am not affiliated with ZyXel in any way.
Ultimately it would depend on the type of broadband connection you have. I prefer to use OSX Server for routing and NAT if its a cable modem broadband service. You would not need to install a gigabit NIC, a standard 10/100 NIC would do. The RTL8139 chipset is supported by 10.3 or above without the need for a driver to be installed and they are cheap. If you have an oldish PC lying around with a 3rd party PCI NIC installed odds are it will be the RTL8139 chipset, use that. You could use this NIC for the WAN connection and the built-in gigabit NIC for the LAN. If the broadband service is down the phone-line then a ZyXel 662H (or HW) Router would be a better bet in my opinion.
As for qualitative discussion on how to pick between the options? These forums are full of such opinions and advice in response to posts such as yours. Ultimately its up to you.

  • Can you specify the port for default services when installing OEG?

    Hi everyone,
The default installation of OEG 11g uses 8090 port for management services, and 8080 for the virtualized services that you register in the gateway. After installation, you can change the ports by editing gateway's Profile Repository in Policy Studio. But is there a way to specify the port number before/during the installation?
    Thanks,
    Iris

    Hi -
here are the steps to change the listening port (in 11.1.1.6)
    - Connect to OEG using Policy Studio
    - Click on "Edit Active Configuration"
    - Under "Services", find the default services, and you'll see a listener for port 8080 there. Right-click to edit this.
    - Change the port from 8080 to your desired port. Note that if you've installed the software and running it as a non-root user on Linux, then it will not have permission to bind to a low-number port (like port 80 for instance)
    - Now deploy your change (for 11.1.1.6 hit F6 or click on the "deploy" button which is towards the right of the toolbar in Policy Studio).
    - You may also choose to version your configuration at this point (click on "version" which is beside the "deploy" button and enter a comment about your version).
Now verify that OEG is listening on your new port. You can see it bind to the new port by looking at the trace [Connect a browser to port 8090 on OEG, login as admin or another user who has rights to view the trace, then click on "Trace"].
It's a usual practice to configure a new listener on SSL (e.g. on port 443) then to delete that pre-configured port 8080 listener, if you want to only receive traffic over SSL.

  • Replication of table from Oracle 10g to sql server 2000

Could i replicate table from Oracle 10g to sql server online. we have tables with same configuration and if any change happen in oracle 10g or sql server in that table we need to replicate that change to other database.
What is the solution for this two way replication between sql server and Oracle 10g

But the tutorial is saying that i will have to install Oracle database on the server already having sql server, is it client or whole database, if it is then it will acquire lot of resource.
I want to find out that for Heterogenous Service ODBC, we need third party software for ODBC Driver of SQL SERVER for Linux and secondly if we use Transparent Gateway then what are the steps for its configuration.
I could not find steps of configuration of Transoparent gateway, when i am trying to install Transparent gateway from Universal installer, it is not there. where do i find it , Do i need to purchase it too.

  • Using E-Commerce with SBO Credit Card plugin

If I configure the synch to use a Credit Card plugin do I still need to configure the Credit Card gateway information for the checkout process? When an order is placed, does E-Commerce still pre-auth the card immediately and the SBO plugin just capture the pre-auth later or does E-Commerce just validate the Credit Card info and pass the data to SBO for the plugin to handle all the credit card processing? I've never had an install using a CC plugin before so I'm not sure how those actually work.
    Thanks guys,
      Steve

    Hey Steve
You still need to configure the gateway in the installer to Authorize the shoppers card.  Once authorized, the cc information is passed into B1 via UDF's and UDT's, so long as you have chosen an option from the CC Plugin in the synchmanager.

    Hi All,
there is some thing wrong in documentation of Apex 4.0.1
when i read to configure Embadded Pl/SQL gateway i followed everything from documentation and after instllation it is mentioned how to login to Apex as follwoing.
    http://hostname:port/pls/apex/apex_admin
in following statment which i copied from documentation does not describe anything for "PLS". which is making confussion to me that there is something i missed during installation.
    3.4.12.1 Creating a Workspace Manually
To create an Oracle Application Express workspace manually:
1.Log in to Oracle Application Express Administration Services. Oracle Application Express Administration Services is a separate application for managing an entire Oracle Application Express instance. You log in using the ADMIN account and password created or reset during the installation process.
a.In a Web browser, navigate to the Oracle Application Express Administration Services application.
Because your setup uses the embedded PL/SQL gateway, go to:
    http://hostname:port/pls/apex/apex_admin
    Where:
hostname is the name of the system where Oracle XML DB HTTP server is installed.
port is the port number assigned to Oracle XML DB HTTP server. In a default installation, this number is 8080.
apex is the database access descriptor (DAD) defined in the configuration file.
where as for installation chossing HTTP server it states to login by following
3.3.12.3 Logging in to Your Workspace
Once you create a workspace, you must log in to it using your login credentials (that is, the workspace name, user name, and password).
    See Also:
See "Creating Workspaces" and "Managing Workspace Requests" in Oracle Application Express Administration Guide
To log in to your workspace:
1.In a Web browser, navigate to the Oracle Application Express Login page.
Because your setup uses the Oracle Application Express Listener, go to:
    http://hostname:port/apex
    Where:
◦hostname is the name of the system where Oracle XML DB HTTP server is installed.
◦port is the port number assigned to Oracle HTTP Server. In a default installation, for Oracle WebLogic Server this number is 7001, in OC4J this number is 8888, in Oracle Glassfish Server this number is 8080. These defaults are correct at the time this document was written. Please review the related Web server documentation for the latest default port if necessary.
◦apex is the mount point defined in the Web Server configuration file.
    -what is your opnion ??
