General assistance

Hi hope you can help.
Firstly I'm new to using Flash to access info from a
database, but not Flash or Databases though.
I have an MS SQL Server Database which holds my shopping cart
info. Each product has an associated product image.
What I'm trying to do:
Allow users to search for products by region (this site is
selling bottles of wine) then display a product image in a
horizontal scrolling gallery. As the user hovers over a particular
product more details are shown below. Users can then enter the
number of bottles they would like and add them to my basket.
(alternatively click on a link to go to my existing cart page which
allows users to update their basket)
There are over 1,200 products to search through.
I thought about manually creating some XML files which
contain the relevant search results but this means that when
updating the product info - eg moving to a different region -
someone would have to manually chaneg the xml file.
Surely the result scan be created dynamically along with teh
relevant image gallery & more product info.
How can this be done?

Look at the Flash XML.load or Flash XML.sendAndLoad methods
and their
examples. They will guide you to the Flash side of receiving
or sending and
receiving XML data.
http://livedocs.macromedia.com/flash/8/main/00002872.html
http://livedocs.macromedia.com/flash/8/main/00002879.html
The serverside receiving and generating the XML will depend
on your server
side libraries.
A nice side is that in order test loading XML you can create
a sample XML
file and use just the XML.load to get the practice. Or you
can create a
basic serverside script that just returns XML such as using
Response.write
in ASP and then you can test the XML.sendAndLoad without
parsing the send
data until you use the XML parsers say in ASP. The rest is
then you need to
deal with your database.

  • IDVD slideshow to iDVD - quality issues/concerns/need general assistance.

I've never been able to master a photo slideshow of quality. I used to use iMovie HD and then export to iDVD which I liked as I could control where the music plays, add special effects titles. The photo quality when burned to DVD was less than what I had hoped for. I have a new project that I'm working on, however, that I'd really like to look special and well, impressive. I read that a good option would be to drop the iMovie project into iDVD which would provide better results than "sending the project to iDVD" or that I could use iDVD to create the slideshow but the photo limit rules that option out.
I'm down to using iPhoto now, and I've created a slideshow that looks good so far, but I wanted to check on the settings. The slideshow will be viewed on a widescreen TV, but since the pictures are not all widescreen, should I use the 4:3 setting before exporting to iDVD? Also, should I crop each photo for TV viewing? Do I need to do specific edits to each photo?
and Last, I created a slideshow, from an event - I cut out A LOT of pics when I made the slideshow - is there anyway I could just import the slideshow to iMovie? rather than going through all of the photos again cutting out what I don't need? The slideshow is not in the media window in iMovie - it looks like you really can't do much once a slideshow is created.
Even with what i've read, I'd like some advice for best results.
    Thanks!

iDVD uses images in the 4:3 size ratio so as long as your images are in that ratio you don't need to do any cropping.
If played on a widescreen TV many DVD players have the capability to present the images at different display options, like Full, Zoom, 4:3, etc. Those decisions are at the viewer's discretion. If you create a 4:3 IDVD project it will play with blank screen at either edge by default.
You can crop your photos to 16:9 before creating your slideshow so the widescreen option can be used in iDVD. Then you will get a full screen slideshow on all the newer widescreen format TVs. Often cropping to the 16:9 ratio loses some important part of the photo but that would be under your control.
I've had better final image quality when I built the slideshow in iDVD from stills rather than in iPhoto and exporting to iDVD as a QT file. There are downsides to this method, i.e. only one transition per slideshow, no Ken Burns effect. However, I've found that creating playlists for the music to be easier in iDVD.

  • What is causing very slow outgoing mail on new iphone 5?

Hi, I just got the new iphone 5 and set up mail with the auto options that the iphone gives me. It's for Gmail and yahoo. I can receive just fine on both, but both have issues sending. It will take 5-10 mins to send an email. I've done everything I've read that is supposed to fix it... delete accounts, set up again, shut down phone, restart, etc, etc. I've scoured the interwebs and can't find a solution.
If I set up gmail through the microsoft exchange, it works, but why won't it work through the pre-set up gmail account? Any ideas? Is it something to do with the SMTP?  HELP!
    Thanks...

Another way to continue using assistive touch and reducing the lag completely is to go to Settings>General>Assistance>Increase contrast>On
This solved it for me but I am hoping its just a part time fix as I enjoy the translucent visuals. Increase contrast basically takes away the layering found across the OS. My lock button is broken so I am forced to use assistive touch and this is really the only thing I can do rightnow. Try it out it should work well for you if you're willing to make a small sacrifice.
However, Apple should adress this issue as the iPhone 5 should be able to handle this kind of load from the OS without any issues especially considering that the 5C, which comes preloaded with iOS7 has the same internal hardware.
Hope this helps you, for the time being until Apple, hopefully, fixes this issue.

  • How do I get Restore to quit popping up?

Every time I sign on, it shows Sorry but Firefox has encountered problems and the Restore shows up. I have tried restoring and shutting down. i have tried shutting down each window. I have tried clicking off of all three and nothing works.

This usually indicates that Firefox is crashing or hanging during the shut-down process. Can you spot any pattern in the sites that were in use, for example, whether they use particular plugins (Flash, Silverlight, Java)?

  • Creation of VMs question

    Hi All
I have worked with VM's before but i just want some general assistance/advise/idea , im currently wanting to do an experiment in regards to server 2008 R2, heres what i want to do. I want to run Forefront, DC and Exchange via one machine. my question is
    this.
Do i make a Server that just does HyperV and have a vm with dc another with Forefront another exchange, or do i make a server with HyperV that also does the Forefront and DC but make just a hyper v for exchange?
Forefront is not a must as i can ditch that idea for one of my Linux based FW.
My idea and understanding would be. 1 Physical server that just does HyperV and to Virtual servers that does AD/DC and another for exchange and if i have Forefront on that it would be based on the Physical side for simplicity reason.
Most my work has been either single based OS testing not multi server os testing in regards to VM's
    Lee Snr Systems Adminstrator

Installing the Hyper-V Role and a DC on the same OS should be possible. But it is no good idea for some reasons and is also not supported by Microsoft. So create a VM for the DC.

  • Syncing Calendar: wrong calendars appear in iTunes

Since upgrading from Snow Leopard to Mountain lion on my Powerbook (PB), I cannot sync Calendar (ICal)  with my IPod and IPad with Itunes.
It is as if my calendar identity is not recognized anymore in ITunes. Or a fantom identity has a hidden Calendar (that I cannot retrieve) on my PB.
    Problem:
I own 10 personnal calendars in Calendar: General, Assistance, Meunier travaux, Listes(undated)... etc
Those that show up in Itunes INFO when plugging in my IPad or IPod have completely different names: Personnel; Travail; Rappels (those are the default calendars of the french version of Calendar). They can be synced to my IPod and IPad. They countain no events.
    What I did or checked:
    -ICloud is inactive
-I resetted sync services a few times (by using ISync and by using the terminal)
-When I enter a new event on the IPad for example, syncing through ITunes seems to accomplish something on the PB. However, nothing changes on my PB calendars
-I created a Test User: he has no problems of syncing through ITunes.
Is there a way to have my "real" Calendars show up in Itunes ?
    Thanks.
PS I know I could use ICloud - but I do not wish to use ICloud for security reasons.

    My issue is solved !!!
After hours of testing with the Test User, trying different things read on the forum; following this procedure without success:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/index?page=hvkb&id=TS2481&agent=helpviewer
The only thing that changed is that some ofmy calendars finally appeared on my IPad - but the events where from an older Calendar (previous to the installation of ML). And when I changed the events on the IPad, the sync process seemed to take place in Itunes but nothing new was installed on my PB Calendar. The cache file or any files did not change in the Library/Calendar folder
However, 3 preferences files where updated on the PB
Seing that  then decided to put to the trash these 3 preferences files:
    com.apple.ical.plist
    com.apple.calendarAgent.plist
    com.apple.syncserver.plist
    And VOILA !
Sync by ITunes works like before ! (I was even able to sync to an android phone !!!)
    Ilenacan
while writing this message, I experienced a Mac crash - blue screen. Not any application running !
    Frightening  !!!!
I guess ML is not ready yet.

  • My Ipod 4g home button is stuck!

My ipod home button is stuck and i really dont wanna have to take it to the store i just went there in the spring to replace my first one. i cant get it unstuck ive tried blowing in it and pushing it down really hard and then releasing it fastly but to no avail it rarely responds now and its driving me insane. any suggestions?

Tried the alcohol for a couple of days and it was only temporary fix.
To get a home button on your screen, go to Settings--> General-->Assistive Touch, under Settings/General /Accesability...
That will give you a little button on your screen that acts as a home button.

  • Music will not resume at song last played

Since iOS8.3 update, my music, when stopped, will not resume on what song was last played when I start to listen again.  This was not an issue before the update. Can anyone help me please? The only way I can make this work is if I do not close out the Music app.  Like I said this was not an issue before and I do not want to leave the Music App/Icon open all the time.  I'm not real technicaly talented so any help would be appreciated.

    Hello, Welcome to Apple Discussions.
    Below is general assistance.
Ensure the volume level in iTunes is not muted and or is up to a proper level to hear music. You can test if sound works at all in iTunes by going to iTunes Store and going to the movies area and playing a trailer or listening to song samples.

P.S. It's a SCVMM 2012 R2 U1. The SQL script mentioned in the Rollup's page was also run as instructed.

The key error is here: Unable to connect to the VMM database because of a general database failure.
Ensure that the SQL Server is running and configured correctly, then try the operation again
Have you verified SQL connectivity, database connectivity, the user account used to connect, the SCVMM computer account used to connect, etc?
