General Dreamweaver complaint

OK. It's been a while since I've complained about Dreamweaver but I've been working with it a lot and I just have to complain about it because it is so crappy.
1. Inconsistent behavior - Generally I find it's behavior inconsistent and way too Windows centric and Very Un Mac like in its "Sudo" finder.
2. Pallets - Currently the Pallets are never in the same place when I re open DW and behave poorly when DW is open.
3.Search and replace - One of the most irratic feature. It just quits working after a while. Sometimes restarting DW helps and sometimes it doesn't. A real time waster.
4. And it crashes A LOT
It seems to me that the code is just unstable. My system is relatively "fresh" and the laptop is about a year old.
Why don't I stop using it? Trust me. I'm looking for a better software alternative. Just because I haven't found anything "better" doesn't by default make the DW good or even the best. It just means that I haven't found anything that sucks less than DW.

Since this is a USER TO USER forum, not Adobe support, and as the
only way another user could reply is if they had that same problem
and had a solution, you may need to contact Adobe for help, or to
report problems or ask for new features directly at Adobe, click

sure to include all information, so they may reproduce the problem

    No - not in my opinion. The best combo would be Fireworks for
    graphics, and
    Dreamweaver for layout.

  • Is there a general dreamweaver template for astrology generators and the like?

    My goal is to create a page that I can create a calculating generator of pretty much anything.
    I guess what I need is direction, code sites, perhaps a template I could recalibrate to serve
    these unique purposes.
    I am grateful for any help.

    There's nothing built into DW (or an extension of DW that I've ever seen) that can do that.
    You would be looking at hand coding javascript to get that kind of set up. Search Google for "astrology javascript", there should be something out there already built that you can copy/paste into DW.
    To get the exact functionality you're looking for may require hiring a professional to create it for you though.

  • Dreamweaver Accordian not working in IE6

    I've added the Spry Accordian function to a page but it only

    I have IE7 and those same items appears and change based upon

    I'm using Dreamweaver 8 on Vista 64, but am having a strange

  • Dreamweaver Momentarily Freezing When Moving Between Code and Design View

    I have Dreamweaver CS4 and have had a problem that just started yesterday.  I have rebooted my machine to no avail.  The local copy and the live copy of the site are on two different servers that we access through a local network.
    Dreamweaver slows to a standstill if I click to another program and then attempt to go back into Dreamweaver or if I switch between design and code view.
    I haven't made any changes to Dreamweaver in the way of added extensions or updates.  Is it possible that the cause of this could be either a server problem or a connectivity to the server problem?
    Many thanks in advance for any help you could provide.
    Andy

    You can use CTRL+# to switch between Code and Design View.
    By the way, this is the Dreamweaver Application Development forum which deals with questions about using server-side scripting languages like PHP or ColdFusion. General Dreamweaver questions should be posted in the regular Dreamweaver General Discussions forum.

    Dreamweaver does not ship with a web server, you have to
    install one, or activate one on your system (IIS or Apache for
    Widows and Apache for Mac are the common choices). When you define
    a site within Dreamweaver you can specify a testing server, as well
    as a remote server. If the testing server and/or remote server are
    available to your system without an internet connection, then you
    can certainly test pages through the web server such as through
    http://localhost/
    If you are creating HTML pages, then there is no need for a
    server at all for creating and testing your pages, but if you are
    working with PHP or ColdFusion, then you will need a web server to
    work with.
    If you have follow up questions, you should ask in the
    Dreamweaver General forum (general Dreamweaver usage questions), or
    the Application Development forum (questions about dynamically
    generated pages), depending on what you're looking to do:

  • Spry tabbed panels - Different Hover Class for each tab

    Already posted this in the general Dreamweaver section, but just realized there was a specific Spry section. So, my apologies for the repost.
    I'm setting up spry tabbed panels, and I'm wanting to use an image for each tab, with the text already on it. I've figured this much out by creating a different class for each in the spry tabbed panel css.
    However, I'd also like to have a second hover image for each tab. I'm having trouble figuring out how to set up separate classes for each tab's hover state.
    Any help?
    Thanks.

    Just in case you did not notice the announce at the top of this forum's main page, I have copied it here.
    Announcement: New to Spry, or  the Spry forums?

    Before you post a topic please verify  that:
    You  are using the latest Spry files
    The latest version of  the Adobe Spry Framework is 1.6.1, this is the same version that ships  with Dreamweaver CS4. If you use Dreamweaver CS3 (uses Spry 1.4), its  wise to upgrade your files to the latest version. This can easily be  done using the Spry Updater that can be found here.
    Your  question was not asked before
    Using the search  functionality on forums you can easily find out if your question has  been answered before. While you are in search, you can specify the  search locations. The Spry forum can be found under:
    Adobe  Labs > Spry Framework for Ajax
    Yoru question can not be  found in the existing documentation
    Spry provides you  with allot of documentation this can found on different locations. In  the sidebar of this forum you can find a small summary of resources that  will help you on your way.
    If these options do not apply to your question,  please be so kind to also supply the following information in your topic  together with a clear description of your issue:
    What  browsers does this issue occure:
    example: Internet Explorer 8 on  Window 7 and Firefox 3.0 on Mac OSX
    What version  of Spry are using:
    example: Spry 1.6.1 ( the version number can  be found in license header of the .css and .js files )
    What  is the url of your website or page in issue:
    example: http://www.example.com/page/in/issue.html
    Step  to reproduce the issue:
    example: Scroll down till you find the  header "help", there you will see a Spry Accordion. When you click on it  it will not open or close.
    So users can provide you with a  better answer, without having to ask you for further details.

  • Another SPRY horizontal menu problem with IE7

    I posted this before, with no responses, but I think
    I've narrowed it down to a CSS response problem with IE7.0. If you
    view the attached link in Firefox or Opera, the menu background
    color responds correctly on the drop downs. In IE7, the
    background-color is ignored, causing the menu to be translucent

  • Displaying rendered HTML text in spry detail region

    Hi,
    I have just started to play around with DW CS3 & spry and
    love them!
    I have a Master/Detail spry going from my database, but am
    having a problem displaying the detail the way I need it. The mySQL
    field is a BLOB for some HTML formatted text (I get the text
    elsewhere using a Xinha textarea edit widget and load the the
    formatted HTML text into my db). For example, my string is
    "<h2>this test</h2><strong>xyz</strong>"
    which is loaded into my db. I am using the dreamweaver ADDT export
    XML functionality to generate my spry master/detail region.
    My detail region is displaying the correct html associated
    with the selected master table entry, but it's with the HTML tags,
    not rendered as HTML (I don't want to see
    <h2>title</h2>; I'd like to see title with <H2>
    formatting).
    It's much like what I think a RSS feed would be, but can't
    find a way just to get the html to render because I don't have the
    files externally to source an iframe or anything. (I tried a XLS
    fragment transformation, just putting the detail record field that
    I want in an XLS file, but that didn't do anything).
    Any kind of guidance, hint, point and laugh but then tell me,
    would be greatly appreciated. I also posted at first at ADDT and
    then General Dreamweaver because I didn't locate this forum in the
    Forum topic list, so when I did find this I thought this is
    obviously where I should have first posted - sorry if anyone has
    also been surfing around. Thanks so much so any info.

    Hi Don,
    Thanks so much for responding. I actually did do that, but it
    seems like I might be doing it in the wrong place. I tried it in
    the .js that I have in my header:
    var dsList = new Spry.Data.XMLDataSet("./export.php",
    "theSpecials/special",{sortOnLoad:"rating",sortOrderOnLoad:"ascending",distinctOnLoad:tru e});
    dsList.setColumnType("detail", "html");
    which didn't do it. I also tried it right in my detail
    display area:
    <div style="overflow:hidden; width: 400px;"
    spry:detailregion="dsList">
    <div> <!-- nested div for spry effect -->
    <div id="detailDisplay" style="width:380px; "> <!--
    spry:content="{detail}"> -->
    <script
    type="text/javascript">dsList.setColumnType("detail","html");</script>{dsList::detail}
    <!-- echo '{dsList::detail}' ; ?> -->
    </div> <!-- detailDisplay -->
    </div> <!-- outter div for spry effect -->
    <!-- spry detail region -->
    </div>
    Excuse the inline ugliness, will clean it up when it's
    functional. But that doesn't seem to do it either. I am storing
    that particular field as a blob in the mysql database, but I
    already tried making that a VARCHAR which had no effect either.
    Thanks so much for for the suggestion! Any other gems that I
    can try?
    Liz

  • Spry menu / lightbox conflict

    I apologize in advance if this is bad forum etiquitte as I have also asked this question on the general Dreamweaver forum.
    If you open the following page in IE8:
    http://02cada7.netsolhost.com/Stasik_Family_Website/janzofiastasik.htm l
    and you go immediately to the pictures and activate lightbox everything looks great.  But if you move your mouse over the spry menu first and then try the lightbox images, the spry menu does not fade into the background.
    Anyone have any ideas how to fix this?

    I had another look at the Spry menu (HTML, JS and CCS) and there is nothing wrong with that side.
    You could try to swap the two CSS file around as follows
    <link rel="stylesheet" href="lightbox/css/lightbox.css" type="text/css" media="screen" />
    <link href="SpryAssets/SpryMenuBarVertical-2.css" rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" />
    <link rel="stylesheet" href="lightbox/css/lightbox.css" type="text/css" media="screen" />
    But otherwise, you need to seek out the culprit within the lightbox plug-in.

  • Converting from HTML to php

    Generally Dreamweaver provides good support for changes to
    templates, and
    automatically updates all the files using a particular
    template when you change
    that template. However this breaks down if you change a
    template, or a file, to
    .php. Dreamweaver regards this as creating a new file, and
    does not offer to
    update links.
    My master template was basicpage.dwt. I created a new dynamic
    page, copied the
    guts of basicpage.dwt into it, and then saved it as basic
    page.dwt.php.
    I didn't really expect Dreamweaver to recognise that this was
    replacing
    basicpage.dwt, but when I opened the template directory I was
    surprised to find
    that it did not show the extensions, just two files
    basicpage. So I renamed
    basicpage.dwt.php to basicphpage.dwt.php so I could tell them
    apart. Then I
    opened index.htm, attached it to basicphpage.dwt.php,
    inserted some php to
    verify that it worked and resaved it as index.php. I uploaded
    to my file server
    and verified that the php worked. I also found that my host
    system loaded
    index.php by default.
    Next I opened one of the existing subsidiary templates,
    attached it to
    basicphpage.dwt.php, and resaved it. Dreamweaver saved it
    with the correct
    extension, but again did not recognise that I had changed the
    template.
    Next I opened one of the dependent files, attached it to the
    new template, and
    resaved it. Again Dreamweaver regarded this as creating a new
    file, and did not
    offer to update links. So when I convert each template I will
    then have to open
    every existing page using it, manually attach the new version
    of the template to
    it, and manually update all the links in it, or referring to
    it. Drat!
    It looks as if I should only convert those pages which I want
    to be dynamic, and
    only do so when I am ready to add the new functionality.
