Hi,
i need some help getting an ERD from an already existing database.... i'm pretty sure there are tools available... so if any one could suggest some, i'd really appreciate it.
thanks

Sorry about the vague reply.... i created two different data sources... the first using the "Oracle in XE" driver and the second using the "Microsoft ODBC for Oracle driver" when i try connecting using the first i get the following error: _ODBC Error: 08004 [Oracle][ODBC][Ora]ORA-12154: TNS:could not resolve the connect identifier specified_So what you specified as the "server" was not found in the tnsnames.ora
the second gives me the following: _ODBC Error: NA000 [Microsoft][ODBC driver for Oracle][Oracle]ORA-06413: Connection not open_
Not familiar with that one
i am using: Oracle 10g express and MS Visio 2007 my operating system is Windows 7
Is your oracle product certified for windows 7?
thanksFWIW, I once had an issue where two supposedly identical desktops, running the same access (odbc) file (same, as in same, from a shared server) and one had to use the oracle driver, the other the MS driver .... I avoid odbc every chance I get.

  • Generating ERD from existing database

    hi,
i'm trying to get an ERD for a release 9.2 database. i've been told that using the designer tool is the best way to do this - is this true?
where can i pick up documentation/instructions on how to use the designer to get the ERD?
do i need a specific version?
    thanks for the help

    hi,
i've been trying to generate an ERD using 9i Designer. i've been able to capture a server model diagram, but i get errors (eg. CDS-1504, RME-0020). i've checked metalink, and apparently designer does not support spatial data types or clob/blob datatypes.
is there a workaround or some other tool i could use?

  • How to create an ERD from existing database ?

    hi all
how i can capture from databse and create an ERD from the whole of database by designer ?
    ssaeeds

Does a very lousy job at it, as it can create only 1 ERD, one screen big and doesn't save intermediate results.

  • EXPDP and IMPDP from existing database to new 'scratch' database

    Hi All,
THis is the first time i'm trying to export and import (using datapump) from one database into a brand spanking new database.
    Source/Target OS - WIndows 2008 R2 Standard
    Source/Target - Oracle 11G Release 2 (same patch updates - 11.2.0.3.3)
I took a full expd of the source database.
I created the same directory structure on the target as the source. I created an empty database on the target server with the same name as the source.
I am trying to use impdp to import this full export into the target database, with the end goal being everything is the same on the target as it is on the source (users, tablespaces, data, schemas, etc...).
I am running into some errors (object already exists, a few others to mention). But my question is, is this a proper way of copying a database from one server to a new server?
    Thanks in advance

The problems I am trying to resolve are:
    1. THE <ADB_DOCUMENT> tag is generated for each row. I just want 1 <ADB_DOCUMENT> tag to wrap the entire document.
    2. I need a linefeed character (\n in c) at the end of each tag as in the sample output in the beginning of the post. I tried concatenating a chr(10) to the end of the </ATTR> tags, but sqlplus truncates anything after the chr(10) in the output file. (I am piping this output to a file using a table function).
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

    1. THE <ADB_DOCUMENT> tag is generated for each row. I just want 1 <ADB_DOCUMENT> tag to wrap the entire document. You have to deal with two levels of aggregation, so here's one way to do it :
    SELECT XMLElement("ADB_DOCUMENT",
XMLAttributes(adb_document_datasource as "DataSource", adb_document_formatversion as "FormatVersion"),
             XMLAgg(custom_element)
           ) as xmlresult
    FROM (
      SELECT adb_document_datasource
           , adb_document_formatversion
           , XMLElement("CUSTOM",
XMLAttributes(custom_table as "Table", custom_name AS "Name"),
               XMLAgg(
                 XMLElement("ATTR",
XMLAttributes(attr_name AS "Name", attr_value AS "Value")
             ) as custom_element
      FROM export_table
      GROUP BY adb_document_datasource
             , adb_document_formatversion
             , custom_table
             , custom_name
    GROUP BY adb_document_datasource
           , adb_document_formatversion
    2. I need a linefeed character (\n in c) at the end of each tag as in the sample output in the beginning of the post.Do you really need to introduce whitespaces in your document?
Depending on your database version, there are two methods to serialize your output and pretty-print it :
11g : XMLSerialize function, with the INDENT option
    10g : Extract function
    For example,
    SELECT XMLSerialize(document
             XMLElement("ADB_DOCUMENT",
as clob indent size = 2
    FROM ...
    SELECT XMLElement("ADB_DOCUMENT",
           ).extract('/*').getclobval()
FROM ...You can then use DBMS_XSLPROCESSOR.clob2file to write the file with a single call.

some modifications on the SSAS database(drop some dimension and measures),  then I want to generate .asdatabase so that i can deploy it to the server. I know i can do it by xmla as well.  But I really like deploying the cube by .asdatabase, not xmla.
    Any thoughts?
    Thanks,

  • Tools for reverse engineering an ERD from the database

We were thinking about using Visio as a tool for Reverse Engineering ERD's from our database. Unfortunately, we can't find any good training that goes over this part of the tool in detail.
So, then I started thinking, maybe it's not the best tool, then. Any suggestions on whether this is the tool, or if there's a better alternative?
    Thanks

  • Generate ER model from existing database

    Hi,
I was able to create a ER diagram based on the instructions in http://www.oracle.com/technology/obe/obe11jdev/11/db_dev/obe_%20databasedevmt.htm
but the associations between the entities are not shown. Is there any setting that shows the associations ?
    Thanks,
    Mohan

    Hi,
You should get the FK relationships by default (as in the OBE). However, it is possible to change the default through Tools -> Preferences -> Diagrams -> Database. Note that these settings only apply to new diagrams or new objects added to the diagram after the preference is set.
Be aware that are not creating an ER diagram, this is a physical server model. Another possibility that your relationships are not displaying is that you have dragged tables onto the diagram that do not have FKs defined between them?
Having said this is not an ER diagram you can change the way your FK are displayed from the default UML notation to ERD notation using the Property Inspector for the diagram.
    Hope this helps

  • How to migrate from existing Database Usermanagement to Active Directory?

    Hello experts,
we are running a portal with more than 2000 users. So far our user management is done by the portal´s own identity management with the database as data source.
However for many reasons instead of the database we would like to use an existing company´s Active Directory (=AD) as a data source for identity management. That means that we would like only to use the AD-users and AD-groups in the portal.
All users who are in the portal´s database now you can find also in the existing company´s Active Directory. Luckily the users have the same ID both in the database and in the AD.
We know that the migration form the database to AD is a big issue since many portal objects depend on the existing structures. However because the IDs of users are identical in both systems we hope to finde a way to "override" the existing usermanagement data with the AD data without loosing the existing settings (e.g. KM-Permissions, user profiles etc.).
Generally I am asking you if you have had already experience with changing the user management´s datasource of an already "living" portal (several 1000 users) to Active Directory User Managent.
    What problems can occour?
Which modifications need to be done?
Which portal´s objects are affected by the migration?
Is a migration possible at all?
I will appreciate all suggestions, remarks, ideas.
    Thanks in advance.
    Thomas

    Hello experts,
the current permissions in the KM-Objects are based on both groups and users from database.
Because it is not possible to modify the Group´s Display Name in the portal´s database we would also like to use LDAP-Groups in the portal: All users and groups in the portal shall be managed by Active Directory in future.
In the Active Directory it is possible to modify the Display Name of groups. This is a necessary feature because of reorganisations of departments in our company which occur from time to time.
Creating new groups with the new department names is not an option because one has to assign all department members to the new group again. Otherwise one need to asign the new group to the ACLs of all KM objects in question. This is a too big deal.
However, thank you for that hint Michael.
    Any other experiences?
I will appreciate any ideas, foreseen problems.

  • Generate PDF from existing flex app

    Hi all,
Is there a way that i can generate a pdf file based on the
existing flex application? For example, if i have a VBox called
"my_vbox" and it contains some child elements, so how can i simply
create a pdf that contains all my_vbox's content?
Currently i only have a dummy solution that to print the
template and use Acrobat Professional to convert it, e.g.
    var printJob:FlexPrintJob = new FlexPrintJob();
    if (printJob.start() != true) return;
    printJob.addObject(my_vbox, FlexPrintJobScaleType.SHOW_ALL);
    printJob.send();
So is there a solution that as easy as this one to "print" my
whole template into a pdf? I have tried AlivePDF but it doesn't
support pdf creation from IUI component(s).
    Thanks in advance!

    Hi,
Have you tried the addImage() method of AlivePDF? It takes a
    DisplayObject as input:
    public function addImage(pDisplayObject:DisplayObject,
    pAlpha:Number = 1, pBlend:String = "Normal", pMatrix:Matrix = null,
    pResizePage:Boolean = false, pEncoding:String = "JPG",
    pQuality:Number = 100, pX:Number = 0, pY:Number = 0, pWidth:Number
    = 0, pHeight:Number = 0, pLink:String = ""):void

  • Generate statistics from repository database

    Hi all,
We need to deliver a montly report to the customer including information about the alerts that GC has generated over the whole month.
Righ now we are doing it counting manually the received mails, since the process is quite slow and innacurate, is it possible to access directly to the repository DB and get all this information automatically?
    Help will be really appreciated
    Regards,
    Luis

Have a look at the sysman@repository objects:
    MGMT$ALERT_CURRENT
    MGMT$ALERT_HISTORY
    MGMT$ALERT_NOTIF_LOG
    MGMT$POLICY_VIOLATION_HISTORY
    MGMT_VIOLATIONS

  • DATA MODELER: reverse engineering from existing database

    After IMPORT -> Data Dictionary
Went thru dialog and Relational Model was displayed.
    Sorry,
There was not relationship shown between each entity.
Right, no Bachman lines between the boxes.
Clicked the "<<" button to create Logical Model.
Again, no lines between the boxes.
    Any suggestions?

    Hi,
Do you have foreign keys defined in database? Is it supported database or you use generic JDBC import?
Can you check log file for errors logged there? (it's in log directory of your installation)
You need foreign keys defined in relational model in order to get relationships in logical model.

  • Generate report from database using .xsl style sheet

I am trying to view test result histories for specific uut serial numbers.
We are logging all test data to the default access database template that was provided with Teststand.
Is there a method of generating reports from the database that match the format of those generated at runtime?
I was surprised to find that the default access database did not contain any gui or pre-made reports matching the xsl style sheets chosen in the report options dialog.
My database skills are weak, I am able to browse the raw data and I see the relationships between some of the tables, but the prospect of recreating one of the xml report formats in access seems daunting. Am I missing something? what is the best way to print a uut report from test data stored in access?

    Hello msears,
Thank you for posting on the NI Discussion Forums.  Unfortunately there are no tools available in TestStand for directly converting an Access database to a formatted .xsl report.  It is possible to have a step in a sequence that reads the information from the database, and create the .xsl report as if it had been generated at sequence run-time, by writing those values directly to Locals.ResultList.  Admittedly, this would require some knowledge of Microsoft Access, and the ability to write a program that will extract information from the database, in order to include it as a step in the sequence.
Is there anything stopping you from creating a formatted .xsl report when the sequence is run (instead of trying to create it from previous data stored in an Access database)?
