Generate list of files /Items in a folder

Hi,
I have a folder lets say Root. This root folder may have several folders and files.
My target is to generate list of all items in this Root folder that list the all folders and items in that subsequent folders (showing path
The output may be an HTML table with item number, physical path etc.
Is it possible?

yes, it can be formatted. Simple content changes are easy:
Get-ChildItem c:\root -recurse | Select * | ConvertTo-Html | Out-File files.html
If you only want some of the values, replace the "*" with the column header names (in the order you want them).
More complex html reformatting will take some effort though.

How do you find out what application is generating a plist file in your preference folder?

I have had two similar warnings come up in Drive Genius 3, a program that I use to manage my drives. The warnings occur during a daily verification of preferences on my main drive, a 256GB SSD.
They state:
"The preference file at '/Users/me/Library/Preferences/com.analogsolutions.Football.plist' may be corrupted."
"The preference file at '/Users/me/Library/Preferences/org.machinedevelop.National.plist' may be corrupted."
Per Drive Genius' advisement, "Corrupted files can cause appplication crashes and should be moved to the Trash." I delete the files, however they are regenerated each day.
Q: How do you figure out what application is generating a preference file? And is there a way to tell if this is a OS generated preference file?
I have searched online and cannot find any information about either Analog Solutions or Machine Develop nor am I able to discern what these particular .plist files are for...
Q: Are these two .plist files truly potentially harmful?

Hi Everyone, sorry for the late response. I have been monitoring my Preferences Folder; every moment I am on my computer trying to catch what application/process generates these files. I was hoping to try your suggestions, but oddly enough the offensive .plist files have not returned since the last time I deleted them about a week ago.... strange...
In any case, I have responded to some of your suggestions and questions that I have information on:

Unfortunately I do not know for certain. Though from all my login/startup/reboot tests I believe that they are not directly linked to starting up the machine or loging in either.
I'm not really certain why the .plist have not returned. I haven't uninstalled any programs, though I did run a couple updates for some widgets within the last week; however that was about 3 days after I deleted the last set of .plist files and usually they reappered everyday. In any case, given that they have not been regenerated I guess my problem is solved per se, at least I am no longer getting that annoying warning everyday. Still, it's a bit of a mystery

Generate list of files

I've been looking into Automator for about a day, so I'm definitely a novice.
I was able to make a workflow that could rename files in a folder, and then move them to another folder.
Now what I'd like to do, either in a separate workflow or at the end of my current one, is to generate a list of the files in the new folder. Basically, to:
open a new a textedit document,
write the file names of all the re-named files into the textedit document
save the document into the same folder.
I'm not sure yet whether I'll need to strip the file path from the name or not (this file list goes into a MatLab program to tell it what files to look for).
Basically, is this doable in Automator, or should I try to do it in AppleScript (will need to learn this, so Automator would be preferable).

at the end of your workflow just add a new text file action...
The list of names will get passed on to it from the previous action.

Our Solaris NFS (v3/v4) fileserver serves filesystems with a huge number of files, a relatively few of which are modified daily. Is there a dtrace script I can run on the server which would generate a list of the files that were created or modified while it was running?

as pointed out file list is (in productional environments) usually turned off for security reasons.
But I had a similiar requirement to the one you posted. I had a directory with thousands of image files with the name pattern <id>.jpg and the id's stored in a database. Not for every id in the database there existed a file. I wanted to show an image or in case the image file did not exist a default jpg. I could not set the error pages in web.xml to do it.
So I had to take the id (a parameter in the request to the servlet I wrote for that), had to concat it with the 'virtual' directory name used in the applicationserver for the img directory. Then I had to check the existance of the file and to load it it and display it, if it existed otherwise I had to load and display the default picture.
The problem is similiar to yours as the problem basically is to map a directory in a web application to a real directory in a filesystem (which works for files and directories.
The answer is use getRealPath(String) of the ServletContext-object.
Note: This only allows access to files and directories in the web application.
e.g.
http://www.theserver.com/mywebapp/img/ is a folder containing img files. The server does not allow directory listing.
In a jsp within the application mywebapp you want to show a list of the files in /mywebapp/img/ .

Hi Michael, you could use that class/method, but you just provide the full path with host name and it must be open on your network, but instead try this example program.

How about phrasing a full and detailed question?
If you're asking about whether you can deploy an EAR in exploded form instead of JAR form, then the answer is yes. You simply navigate in the WL console to the root directory of your exploded EAR and select that. If you're careful, you can also edit the config.xml if you've already deployed a JAR form for the EAR and change the path to point to the exploded EAR directory (you wouldn't do this while the server is running).

When i use view as list in finder and open a folder with many files i cant right click with mouse without selecting or highlighting a file....i just want to right click to paste an item or create a new folder...what can i do?

Drag-and-drop tree list from files/folder

Hello all. I'm new to Flex and I'm looking for some help or
for someone to point me in the right direction. I want to write a
simple AIR application to accept a multiple text files (or a folder
full of text files) when the files/folder is dragged into a tree
list. The file/folder name will be the node name. When selected,
the contents of the file will be displayed in a text area. The text
file will contain a 4 x 4 number matrix with each column separated
by a tab and each row separated by a return. (I plan on plotting
the numbers in the matrix in the future).
What I'm most confused about is how to go about
dragging-and-dropping files into a tree list and creating item
names based on the file/folder name? And does the file content need
to go into an array collection?
Maybe I'm going about this in a difficult way. If there is an
easier way, I'd appreciate it if someone could share. Thank you

I have the same problema and I´m not able to find the reason.
The solution to get the event raised has been to copy configurations from wd standard appl FPM_TEST_DND_FORM and use my own Z feeder class : all seems to work perfectly , but , if I try to do it from scratch the event FPM_DROP_COMPLETED it´s not raised .
I´ve compared both configurations/class ( the one that I´ve done from scratch that it doesn´t raise the event and the one that I´ve adapted copying from standard that it raises perfectly the event) and I haven´t seen any difference (maybe I haven´t found) .

Convert list of files in a folder to text?

Is there an easy way to convert the list of files in a folder into a text document? In other words I would like to create a text list of the names of all the files in a given folder - just the individual file names, not the entire path of each file.
Any ideas? Seems like there should be some simple way to do this.

If you copy the desired items in a Finder window and do a *Paste and match Style* into a TextEdit document, the file names will be pasted in. If you have TextWrangler (or BBEdit), dragging a folder into a document will give also you a list of the contents.

I think it does that for QuickTime if you don't define the lineStride value in the VideoFormat (lineStride = pixelStride * width).

I've been restoring my iTunes folder from a backup hard drive to a new computer on which I've downloaded the latest iTunes (10.7). If this is a newer version than the one I backed up with could this be the problem? (I had the latest (to my knowledge) iTunes when I backed up the folder about 3 weeks ago, was this version 10.7?)
Or is the version of iTunes (within recent updates) not an issue when restoring a library?

The general method of use is to download the script to a folder of your choice, e.g. your Desktop, Downloads folder or create a folder at ...\iTunes\Scripts. Select a playlist or highlight some tracks in iTunes and then double-click on the script to execute it. If no specific tracks are selected the script will try to work with all tracks in the current playlist. Some scripts offer a choice of track by track confirmation of changes or fully automatic processing of the selection. Many of the scripts can optionally display a progress bar while running.
You are strongly advised to backup your entire library, or at the very least the iTunes Library.itl file, before use. Test the behaviour of your chosen script on a small group of files first to make sure it does what you want before applying it to large numbers of files.
Most builds of Windows will execute *.vbs scripts when you double-click them. If that doesn't happen then you might need to visit the Add/Remove Programs or Programs & Features control panel to enable the Windows Scripting Host. I can track down details if you have issues.
Backing up and restoring data is an area that is often glossed over. Most people don't try to learn much about it until they've lost something important. (Me too )
If your iTunes library was in the usual layout then normally copying the whole iTunes folder from the User's Music folder in the old computer to the User's Music folder in the new one will usually work fine. Ideally this is done before iTunes is installed so that there is no empty library to replace, and all settings are picked up from the old library. This post contains more details.

Related Item link is broken in DispForm.aspx for a task in Workflow Tasks list if file name contains " ' " (single quote)

Description:
We have created a custom workflow in Microsoft Visual Studio 2013 and SharePoint 2013. This Workflow is associated with a Document library.
This Workflow starts as soon as any new item is created OR updated in Document library and creates a Task in Workflow Tasks list.
Related Item link is not working in following scenario -
Upload a file that contains “ ' “
in its name, in a document library
Navigate to Workflow Tasks list
Open View Item form (DispForm.aspx ) of Task Created by workflow then click on link in Related Item fields
OUPUT:
Related Item link truncates after “ ' “
Eg.
Original Link: http://<Site URL>/Documents/te'st.txt
Related Item Field: http://<Site URL>/Documents/te

As I tested per your description, I can reproduce the issue as well.
From what I have found out, it seems SharePoint resolve single quote into different code in different place. During the test, if I set Task Name to Document Name, single quote will be resolved to ' , if I set some field to Document encoded URL, single
quote will be resolved to %27 . For now, I haven't found out any article talking about this issue.
As workaround, we may find out a way to change the Related Item field. However, it is OOB field in workflow task (SharePoint 2013) content type, and this content type cannot be modified in form.
I'd suggest you add new column to get document url and place in the form in Task content type settings.

How Can I Make a Text File that Lists Files in a Finder Folder?

I would like to email lists of files in my various Finder folders. I have Mac OS X (10.4.6). Finder works nicely, but I cannot figure out how to save a list of file names. Can I get advice? Thank you.

I'd like to thank "roam" for the link http://www.searchwaresolutions.com which opened a site for "printwindow" for Mac OS. Wow!! That was easy! It's a free download for the standard product which luckily worked for me. After downloading PrintWindow, and putting it in my Applications and reading PDF instructions, I opened PrintWindow and clicked "File". Then I chose "Print Folder Listing", clicked that and see "Print Listing" of all my Mac's folders. Then, I selected the folder for which I wanted the file names listed on paper. Then it opens a Print Options menu. I clicked Print. Then, a "Page Setup" menu appears. I clicked "OK". Then a "Print" menu appears. On the "Print" menu, there is a PDF options menu!! On that, there is a "Save as PDF"!! I clicked "Save as PDF" and then there is a small "Save" menu where I typed a new file name and the folder in which I wanted the listing saved. It worked! Thank you.
