Generated pdf file from oracle reports show bad characters
Hello all,
Iam fighting with a problem with generated pdf file from oracle reports which show some bad characters. I was searching for some information but it didnt help...
I have Oracle Database 11g R2 (or 10g R2) on Oracle Linux or Windows, Oracle forms and reports 6i (i know that is very old and not supported with 11gr2 but we are in this scenario).
NLS parameters are set like this
server:
NLS_CHARACTERSET EE8MSWIN1250
NLS_TERRITORY AMERICA
NLS_LANGUAGE AMERICAN
client:
NLS_CHARACTERSET EE8MSWIN1250
NLS_TERRITORY SLOVAK
NLS_LANGUAGE SLOVAKIA
When I run Oracle Reports it show perfect in display and when I try to print them, they are all good with good characters, but when I try to generate pdf file, some characters like č,š,ľ are not displaying corectly... This happen only when try to generate to pdf...
I try to work with uifont.ali on client side but without any result. Fonts for reports were installed on client and server side... Can someone help me with this problem? Thank you very much for every advice.
MartinHi Sergiusz,
Thank you for your reply. I look at what you wrote and try to make some test...
1) For first I download FontForge, which can generate type1 font from true type. So I open FontForge and open my Arial.ttf font and use "Generate Fonts" to save my Arial.ttf font to pfb and pfm (whoch are need to set in uifont.ali). I have to change encoding, because my font has 2byte encoding so I reecondode the font from ISO10646-1 to ISO8859-2 and generate to pfb.
2) Then I navigate REPORTS_PATH from regedit to my *.pfm and *.pfb files.
3) I add these lines to end of my uifont.ali
[ PDF:Embed ]
Arial = "Arial.pfm Arial.pfb"
ArialNarrow = "ArialNarrow.pfm ArialNarrow.pfb"
4) Then I generate my report but nothing change... I check "Font used" in my pdf file, but there were not my fonts embedded I guess..
I also try PDF:Subset, but it doesnt change anything... I try PDF aliasing to see if my uifont is working - this work very well, but I dont need to change font...
Any other advice? Thank you so much to everyone!

Generate PDF file from oracle Table
We need to populate pdf file into oracle table of column blob through informatica by taking
path\name(/path/filename.PDF) as input from source table.
The pdf file is on some other server so, we need to create a stored procedure which will give pdf file as output from
other server by taking path\name from source table column as mentioned above.
So please suggest how we can create a stored procedure for that purpose.

Generate PDF documents from a template
We need a solution for the following scenario soon.
We need to create documents off of a template. The template is a pdf document with place holders in the text
For example: Assuming that the following is the text in the template I am talking about
Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet, $FIRSTNAME consectetur adipiscing elit. Sed risus orci, consectetur at malesuada euismod, $LASTNAME hendrerit ut turpis. Donec ullamcorper egestas condimentum. Ut eu nisi lacus.
We will create documents off of the above template by replacing $FIRSTNAME and $LASTNAME. The text needs to adjust as needed. In short, we don't want to use fixed fields for the text to be replaced.
Can this be done? How?You will need to use form fields. You may be able to use adjustible size form fields in Designer. You might try to ask in the Designer forum for help.

Write to word document from oracle plsql
Hi,
Please provide methods to create and write to a word document from ORACLE PLSQL.We tried using UTL FILE package but it writes as ascii text.Divs wrote:
The server m/c operating system is unix.so we need to invoke the procedure from Unix Os.In that case - not possible. For Windows COM (Component Object Model) to work, Oracle database need to be able to call and load the COM dynamic link libraries.
Not to say that it is not possible. Have never used DCOM (the Distributed COM interface), and not exactly sure what it requires. Assuming that DCOM is not usable from a Linux perspective, you can still provide a manual interface. You create a NT tcp/ip service that exposes the COM interface calls that you need - in a secure fashion (even better - you can provide a higher level abstraction layer for the COM interface that does the specific job you need to be done).
From Oracle you can then use PL/SQL's UTL_TCP package to open a connection to it and via this service craft a Word document on that Windows server.
Are there web services for MS Office? I know Google is pushing that aspect hard (and embroiled in lawsuits with the US government and Microsoft about tender awards in this aspect). Now if Microsoft has "+office-on-the-web+", then one can create a Word document via a web browser. This means that there is an underlying web service - and that this can be called and used. The Evolution (Open Source Mail Reader) project for example uses the MS Exchange web service interface to provide a seamless interface to Exchange mail accounts (have used this everyday for a number of years now).
The real question I would however ask is why Word specifically? Why not a more common format like PDF? You can even consider generating XML instead. Both Microsoft and Open Office and others are supporting XML formatted word processing documents (as oppose to older proprietary and binary formats).
And why not use a Report Writer? I'm a big fan of doing as much as possible in Oracle (using PL/SQL most of the time). But certain things, like generating Word-style documents would be better done (and more flexible too) using a Report Writer. -

Generating an xml from a pl/sql procedure
Hi Friends,
I have come up with a requirement to generate an xml from a pl/sql procedure.
I did some R & D and also got some sample procedures but could not understand the datatypes being used.
The procedure declares variables like this:
doc xmldom.DOMDocument;
mainNode xmldom.DOMNode;
headerElem xmldom.DOMElement; Pls could anyone tell what do these xmldom.DOMDocument, xmldom.DOMNode and xmldom.DOMElement mean?
Later in the procedure, these variables are assigned values like
doc := xmldom.newDOMDocument;
mainNode := xmldom.makenode(doc); This went a bouncer on me.
Pls help.
Thanks in advance ...!You can check this one -- Learned this from michael.

Need To Create a table in Sql Server and do some culculation into the table from Oracle and Sql
Hello All,
I'm moving a data from Oracle to Sql Server with ETL (80 tables with data) and i want to track the number of records that i moving on the daily basis , so i need to create a table in SQL Server, wilth 4 columns , Table name, OracleRowsCount, SqlRowCount,
and Diff(OracleRowsCount - SqlRowCount) that will tell me the each table how many rows i have in Oracle, how many rows i have in SQL after ETL load, and different between them, something like that:
Table Name OracleRowsCount SqlRowCount Diff
Customer 150 150
0
Sales 2000 1998
2
Devisions 5 5
0
(I can add alot of SQL Tasks and variables per each table but it not seems logicly to do that, i tryid to find a way to deal with that in vb but i didn't find)
What the simplest way to do it ?
Thank you
Best Regards
DanielHi Daniel,
According to your description, what you want is an indicator to show whether all the rows are inserted to the destination table. To achieve your goal, you can add a Row Count Transformation following the OLE DB Destination, and redirect bad rows to the Row
Count Transformation. This way, we can get the count of the bad rows without redirecting these rows. Since the row count value is stored in a variable, we can create another string type variable to retrieve the row count value from the variable used by the
Row Count Transformation, and then use a Send Mail Task to send the row count value in an email message body. You can also insert the row count value to the SQL Server table through Execute SQL Task. Then, you can check whether bad rows were generated in the
package by querying this table.

Mike Yin

SuHi Su,
Thanks for your post.
How do you manually build your PL/SQL/Oracle projects?
TFS Build invoke MSBuild command to build project/solution on build agent machine by default. If these projects can be built using MSBuild command line manually, then we can use TFS Build(default build process template) to build these projects.
If these projects need be built using another complier, and this compiler support run the command line to invoke it, so you can add the InvokeProcess activity(execute the command line) to invoke this compiler to build these projects in build process template,
then create build definition using this customized build process template.
