Generating XSL or XSLT   using Java

Hi ,
I am developing a mapping tool. The tool maps the data elements of the source and destination XSD's. The GUI is being developed in Java Swings. After the mapping is performed, the tool needs to
1)Generate an XSLT for the map
2)Generate an output XML (XSLT transformation using the source XML and XSL)
I have found the solution for the second point (Done using the Xalan XSLT engine ). I am not getting an idea how to generate an XSL using Java at the first go and then also generate the XSL using the mapping details.
Thanks in advance

Hi Bernd,
here you can find an example how to use RFC lookup from an XSLT Mapping:

  • Generate XML file dynamically using java

    Hi,
    I searched on this topic on the net and also in this forum but everything leads to parsing an existing file using JAXP technology. But i need to create an xml file dynamically from the data coming from a different source. I can do it manually by writting the content to a file. But i am sure there is a better way for it. I would be obliged if some one could give me and example java class which produces a simple xml file or direct me to any resource online.
    Thank you in advance.

    Yes you can create the xml file dynamically. Like this,
    BufferedWriter bw = new BufferedWriter(new FileWriter("xyz.xml"));
    bw.write(buffer.toString()); //where buffer is StringBuffer whcih contains the your xml data
    bw.close();
    Remember to close the BufferedWriter, otherwise it will create the file but don't write anything.
    Hope this will help u.

    LiveCycle does provide a Java API to forms; LiveCycle is in fact a suite of programs, mostly enterprise level for running on server (next to which the cost of the master suite is a drop in the ocean). LiveCycle Designer is perhaps the only end user tool, and it is not for server use and doesn't have an API.
    Are you looking for a server solution? If so, nothing in the master suite can help, it isn't for server use.

  • Using Java XML 1.5 toolkit instead of sapxmltoolkit for xslt mappings

    Hi All
       We have a case whereby our xlst requires a number of customised java class functions as we are porting webmethods systems across to PI.
    eg in the xslt adding
    <xsl:when test="function-available('java:concat">
        <xsl:value-of select="java:concat($first, $last, $inputparam)"/>
    We are running sap PI 7.1 ehp1. I have been referring to a number of posts on how to complete these tasks.
    namely we have implemented the example as provided in:
        http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nwpi71/helpdata/EN/73/f61eea1741453eb8f794e150067930/frameset.htm
    This only works if "Sap XML Toolkit" is enabled in the operational mapping.
    Left unticked (default setting in the mapping) whenever a testcase is run I end up with the error "could not compile sytle sheet".
    I would like to use the Java 1.5 xml processing capability as it is supposed to perform better than the sapxmltoolkit option and support for the latter will be discontinued in future.
    Has anyone been able run the case with sapxmltoolkit enabled?
    If so did you add any other libraries for java xml 1.5?
    thanks

    Thanks, I would have thought as much, but theres no guide on the deployment.
    For now i assume this will fit into the java/ext area and Pi would need a reboot after the libraries are copied.
    Has anyone deployed the additional libraries to PI.

  • How to convert xml file to xsl using java

    Hi all,
    I have an XML file with which i need to convert(transform) it to an xsl file using java.
    I am new to converting xml file to xslt.Please send me if u have code .
    Thanks in advance

    You seem to be asking the wrong question. An XSL file can be used to transform an XML file, but transforming an XML into an XSL does not make sense. The API for running XSL transforms on the Java platform is described here:
    http://java.sun.com/javase/6/docs/api/javax/xml/transform/package-summary.html

  • Simple XML to Text onversion using XSLT and Java?

    Hi all!
    I'm completly new to using XSLT and Java and are trying to convert a XML file into a ordinary Textfile that I am gonna import into another application.
    I started up writing a ordinary XML parser in Java which interpreted the XML file, but realized later on that it was possible to do with a ordinary XSLT.
    So far it is a 2-step process right now, I've tied my XSLT to the XML file and then just open the XML file up in a ordinary browser and then get the result.
    I found an example (http://www.onjava.com/pub/a/onjava/excerpt/java_xslt_ch5/index.html?page=3) where u hook up a XML file and a XSL file separately and the process it, and dump it to Stdout. But do I need to hook up a XSL file like this when the XML file is tied to a XSL file internally?

    Just to give you an example to show you how easy it is: http://www.daniweb.com/forums/thread137587.html

  • Use Java to process the XSLT stylesheet

    Background:-
    I used Java to design a very simple Interface, which was composed of two components, one is an editable comboBox, the other is a button. What I want to achieve is selecting the value in the combobox and clicking the button, then it will achieve the relevant transformation process against the value selected from the comboBox.
    Implementation:-
    The transformation process is to extracting a set of information about a certain bird from an XML document, which contains many birds' information, to form a new XML document of one bird. The bird that I want to transform is listed in the comboBox and can be selected there. I use the Java to control the transformation process. My design is: I use Java programme to read the selected comboBox's value (bird name) and pass this value to the XSLT stylesheet, which is used to transform the XML document to a new XML document. What I have implemented: The Java programme has successfully controlled the transformation process, but I have defined in the XSLT stylesheet the bird name in advance. So the transformation is limited.
    What I want:-
    What I want is the transformation process will be carried out based on the value (bird name) read from the comboBox on the interface. And I hope to use Java to achieve this design!
    XSLT stylesheet code:-
    <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
    <xsl:stylesheet version="1.0" xmlns:xsl="http://www.w3.org/1999/XSL/Transform" xmlns:fo="http://www.w3.org/1999/XSL/Format">
    <xsl:template match="node()">
         <xsl:apply-templates/>
    </xsl:template>
    <xsl:template match="class[own-slots/own-slot/entry/value = 'Barn_swallow']">
         <xsl:copy-of select="."/>
    </xsl:template>
    </xsl:stylesheet> I am very appreciated if you can provide me some helps kindly!
    Thanks a lot! Waiting for your nice suggestions!
    David

    I mean, you can find the bird name(Barn_swallow) in my
    attached XSLT stylesheet code. This name was actually
    defined in advance. What I want to perform now is to
    use the Java program to get the bird name from the
    comboBox (you have gave out the method) and pass it to
    the XSLT(actually needed to implement by Java), then
    continue to use the Java programe to achieve the
    transformation process (this step, I think, has been
    achieved.) Obviously, how to perform the second step
    "pass it to the XSLT" is the current task!What can you do already? Can you get a Transformer object from a TransformerFactory? If so, then simply call its setParameter("bird", "Barn Swallow") method. You'll have to declare a top-level xsl:param element whose name is "bird" in your XSL transformation, which you can then use as if it were a variable.

  • Is it possible to call Java functions from XSLT, using standard Java 6?

    I have seen examples, but the examples are always the most simple case, which even I can already get working. The case where no arguments are passed to the java function.
    As soon as I try to pass an argument to the java function, i get a stupid unhelpful error message (as always error messages are unhelpful).
    Or am I wasting my time using the standard provided java parser, and need to use apache or something?
    anyone who can provide me with a couple lines of working code is to me a saint!
    At the moment I am using calling a named template, and passing a param into this.
    I want to use this param as an argument in the Java function.
    Is this possible?
    example code:
         <xsl:template name="calc-age">
              <xsl:param name="dob"/>
         <xsl:variable name="sdob" select="java:lang.String.new($dob)"/>
         <xsl:value-of select="java:toString($sdob)"/>
         </xsl:template>

    I have fixed it.
    I had to call an xslt 1 function 'string' on the variable before passing it into the java function (see below).
         <xsl:template name="calc-age">
              <xsl:param name="dob"/>
              I know that the value of the param is: <xsl:value-of select="$dob"/><br/>
             <xsl:variable name="poo" select="$dob"/>
             <xsl:variable name="sdob" select="java:lang.String.new(string($poo))"/>
             And here again, we try to print a variable<xsl:value-of select="$poo"/>                <br/>
             And here again, we try to print the result of the java call<xsl:value-of select="java:toString($sdob)"/>      <br/>
             and here is our variable sdob    <xsl:value-of select="$sdob"/>
         </xsl:template>          Now this is APPARENTLY a xslt-1 function,
    but the reference I had been using for this is
    http://www.w3schools.com/xpath/xpath_functions.asp it is linked to by a reference that calls these xslt-2 functions.
    Maybe they are mixed xslt-1 and xslt-2 functions?
    How am I supposed to know?
    Where is a good (plain and simple, easy to read) reference for xsl, so i know which functions are which?
    Anyone got a good answer to that question?

  • XSLT Mapping : RFC Lookup using java helper class

    Hi All,
    I am doing RFC Lookup in xslt mapping using java helper class. I have found blog for the same (http://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/sdn/go/portal/prtroot/docs/library/uuid/05a3d62e-0a01-0010-14bc-adc8efd4ee14) However this blog is very advanced.

  • Generating xslt with java

    Hi,
    I'm currently working on a project to automatically generate xslt to convert an arbitrary xml file to html....does anyone know if there is a reliable library to generate xsl tags with or will I have to implement this myself....
    thanks in advance,
    Niall.

    Yeah basically the idea is that I'm developing an XML editor and an automatic XSLT generator. The generator should be capable of taking arbitrary xml files and generating xslt files to convert the xml to html.
    Sounds a bit crazy now that I think about it.
    It's actually my final project for college.....if you're interested in the official spec. it's available here:
    http://www.computing.dcu.ie/~ncolem-case4/functionalspec.html
    as usual any suggestions / comments / etc. welcome!
    cheers,
    Niall.
