Geocoding: initial call to geocoder VERY SLOW

Hi,
we use Oracle 10gR2 for geocoding Europe.
We encounter this odd behavior:
The first call to sdo_gcdr.geocode() in a session takes much longer than all superceding calls in that session. Depending on the environment we talk about 4 minutes for the first call and 4 seconds or less for the following ones in that session!!
The reason seems to be this:
For every sessions' initial call to the geocoder country profiles are loaded from the database. This is documented in ORACLE trc-files. However, Country Profiles are loaded redundantly. Redundance increases with the number of entries in GC_COUNTRY_PROFILE:
If I only have one entry in GC_COUNTRY_PROFILE, that profile is loaded twice.
If I have two entries in GC_COUNTRY_PROFILE, each profile is loaded 4 times.
If I have three entries in GC_COUNTRY_PROFILE, each profile is loaded 6 times.
If I have four entries in GC_COUNTRY_PROFILE, each profile is loaded 8 times.
If I have 17 entries as I want to have, each profile is loaded 32 times.
This apparently has impact on performance of that initial call!
What is the reason for this and how can I eliminate it? Loading each profile ONCE is enough, really.
Cheers
Sebastian

This is not fixed in 10.2.0.3 either.
This is actually an adjustment we have to make in our code to deal
with the NAVTEQ data and NAVTEQ notified us about this issue
only recently.
It is the sdogcdr.jar file that causes the issue only with the database JAVAVM.
The same jar file works ok with the J2EE version of the geocoder.

  • Dashboard to BEx query call run time very slow (7-8 mins)

    Hi Guys,
I am currently working on a project where BEx query is being consumed using BICS. The functional team has built a BEx which is being cached in Webi by the BO developer and then that cashed Webi is being used in Dashboard. We have many hierarchies (Fund Center, Profit Center, GL Account etc.) used in the dashboard.
BEx query > WEBi (Cached) > Dashboard
Clicking the main level in hierarchy in dashboard the data comes back in 2-3 secs as the data is cached in Webi
ISSUE: In Dashboard based on where user is on the Fund Center hierarchy there is a button called “Summary Report” on the dashboard which calls the BEx query and that second call takes roughly about 7-8 minutes. How could we reduce the run time of the second query?
The secondary query uses the same data set as the first one but as the data is cached in Webi and it uses Web services to pass data to dashboard, so any call back from dashboard to the cached webi the hierarchy information is lost  and thus the secondary query call to BEx query.
Would it be possible to recommend any solution where we could bring the run time of the secondary call to less than a minute?
    Thanks,

  • My 2009 Macbook Pro is running very slow

After installing Maverick on my 2009 Macbrook Pro initially the result was very slow, practically unresponsive and unusable. After investigating many reports of similar problems I have not found anything to rectify the problem. Have downloaded and reinstalled Maverick - have tried many suggestions but whilst currently marginally usable I am getting to the end of my patience and am very disapponted that it would not seem that Apple have sorted this problem out with an answer or even an apology. Please, please Apple sort yourseves out - you will cause yourselves iripairable damage if you continue to ignore the many problems that are being reported - this is my question to you - when and if will you sort this out please?

  • Initial RMI call to the server very slow

I have an RMI client who is trying to connect to an RMI server.
The server is behind a physical firewall, i think its netscreen, during the first call of the client, it is registering itself to the remote object in the server, the call takes up aroung two-three minutes to complete, after that, the succeeding remote method calls are fast, why is this happening?
    need help on this

the call takes up aroung two-three minutes to
completesorry, i meant the client takes two-three minutes before it was able to call the method, once called, the method proceeds normally, then the succeeding calls are not that slow anymore

  • Very slow start when initially entering the service ticket in Web UI (2007)

We seem to encounter a very slow start when initially entering the service ticket in Web UI (2007). Once in all seems speedy enough. I don't have my access arrange for the Service marketplace (OSS notes) yet so can't check if there is a known solution, which I suspect there is. Has anyone encountered this problem and possibly resolved it?.
    Jason.

Previous posts have highlighted the following notes:
1048388 General Performance improvements of BSP transactions
1162605 Network performance for CRM 2007 Webclient
1162685 SAP CRM 2007 Webclient Performance
821045 Poor performance of MIME objects in BSP pages
    581316 BSP Delta-Handling for CRM (BASIS 620 SP17)
However, I was wondering whether anyone has come across any other small changes that may have a major effect. A quick-win I guess you call it. From bitter experience I know there are rarely quick wins when it comes to optimisation due to the amount of re-testing etc.
But any further advice would be welcome.
    Jas.

  • Initial search on ITunes store very slow

We're using ITunes 7.6 on a Windows Vista PC. Users without parental controls can access the store with no issues. Kids accounts, though, can access Itunes and the store, but the initial search is very slow - 10 minutes on a 6 MB DSL connection. When these searches finally complete, access is then at expected speeds - a few seconds per request. I have not had any successful tips from tech support yet. We have uninstalled and reinstalled Itunes and Quicktime.

tspatt,We didn't have luck with adding http://ax.phobos.apple.com.edgesuite.net/ to the allowed web addresses in Vista's Parental Controls.  We already had apple.com allowed. We still have the same problem with the iTunes store taking several minutes to load.Call me a cynic, but, I think Apple really isn't motivated to find a solution.  I think they like seeing MS product users experience pain.  On the flip side, we already know that MS likes all of it's competitors to fail.If you have Windows XP or Vista and want Parental Controls, the only solution seems to be to use a different music provider instead of iTunes.

  • VERY slow initial full back up using Time Machine.

I had a problem with my Time Capsule and had to erase the drive.  Now it's running the initial full back up - but, in 21 hours and 48 minutes it's only done 93.11 GB of the total 241.05 GB. Is this very slow progress normal?  I'm sure it didn't take this long when I first ran the initial back up when the Time Capsule was new.

I am having the same problem, i have a 2 tb WD Element USB HDD. I have had my imac for 2.5years but has now slowed right down.
Doesn't sound like the same problem.  You seem to have a problem with your Mac, not necessarily backing-up.
I decided to use time machine to back everything up.  I formated the WD to the same as my mac and ran time machine but has only completed 9.81gb out of 485.68gb and not moved for 6 hours.
Cancel the backup  (if it won't cancel after several minutes, see #D6 in Time Machine - Troubleshooting).
Then verify your internal HD, per #6 in Using Disk Utility.
If that reports that it "seems to be ok," you may have a hardware problem.  Try running this: Intel-based Macs: Using Apple Hardware Test.  Run the Extended tests (that may take an hour or so, depending on how much RAM you have).  Write down any error code(s) it shows.
Apart from doing a back when i first purchased the imac.
You haven't done a backup in 2 1/2 years?  Eeek!

  • TS3795 Ever since I Upgraded to Maverick my MAC has been very slow which is very annoying.  Right now I am not home. So is there a number I can call so someone can help me with this issue?

Is there a telephone number I can call after 7:00 p.m.?  I'm not at home and I need to call Support to help me speed up my MAC.  Ever since I upgraded to the Maverick my computer has been very slow and it's very annoying.

  • Very slow initial back up

I have just got my new 1TB Time capsule and set it up but it appears VERY SLOW!!!! in 12 hrs it has done 10gb?
I have tried restarting with a LAN connection? I just wondered if anyone else is having the same problem? or any idea why it is so slow?
    thanks

If you haven't read it already I would check put the following Apple KB article with tips on TM initial backup to TC:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=307525
Ethernet cable would be the fastest way to go. There are some applications run in OS X that can slow down TM such as virus checkers. Also file corruptions can slow TM down from OSX running client Mac. If slowness persists frequently delving into the console logs can provide insights into where problems lie. It's also worth bearing in mind wireless networking factors that can slow down network transmission speeds to Mac clients such as interference or range from the wireless access point.

  • After ICS upgrade Phone is very slow to make a call

After ICS upgrade , when I select a contact to call , and then press cell or home , the response time is very slow.
I have pressed the call button more than once thinking it did not take. Then when it does take I end up calling the person
more than once because it has buffered the calls . What can be causing this ?
If you have an answer Please email me at: Personal email address removed to comply with VZW ToS<     Thanks

Mine and my wifes thunderbolts have become horrible since the upgrade was pushed.  Apps are slow, or don't even load some times.  Trying to make a phone call is sluggish and at times it will try to call twice at the same time for some reason.
however, i overlooked all of this because i liked the look of ICS.  then last week after being pushed two updates in a row, it now will just turn off at random times.  i can't even go to a webpage anymore because it will immediately crash.  better yet, when i try to reboot the phone, it will get to the point where it recognizes the verizon network, and then just shut off again.  this happened to me 8 times in a row the other day.  it will also say that the battery is in the red, even though it had a full charge before the crash.
i have found that if i plug my phone in and then boot it up, it will boot up correctly.  that is the only way i have been able to get it to actually boot up since all of this started happening.  it will still show the battery is about to die, and then about 15 minutes later it will show it is at 100% again.
i tried to do the chat with a reprensentative today and the guy was asking for my account password before he could look into my issue.  what kind of company asks for a password.  that is the dumbest thing i have seen.  so now, i have a phone that "sometimes" works, and online chat that reminds me of a scamming site.
when my wife called to talk to someone they told her that it was htc's fault and that it would cost us $60 each to switch to new phones.  how is that customer service?  besides, verizon's network sent the update.  there is no way that they can try to say it wasn't their fault.  that isn't how the real world works.
i have reposted this from another thread, but since there seems to be someone from VZW reading this, perhaps some info can be found...

    wadams5641,
Let's add some speed to your service and ensure you can make calls without the
delay. When was the last time you turned off your phone? Is the software up to
    date?

  • Simple Soap Test, VERY SLOW with XP, only 5 calls per second !

    Hello,
I'm just starting developing a web service. My first test shows a very slow performance of only about 5 calls per second:
Windows XP client localhost -> Windows XP server: 2000 calls per second
Windows XP client in VM on server maschine -> Windows XP server: 4,5 calls per second
Windows XP client over 100 MBit LAN -> Windows XP server: 2000 calls per second: 4,5 calls per second
Windows XP client over 1000 MBit LAN -> Windows XP server: 2000 calls per second: 4,5 calls per second
So you might think, that is it, but - using identical jars:
Mac OS X, 10.6 client -> Windows XP server: 880 calls per second
Windows XP client -> Mac OS X 10.6 server: 4,5 calls per second
So the problem seems to be the client setup on an Windows XP system.
    This is the service code:

}Any idea, why this is so slow, if the client runs on an Windwos XP (Pro) system ?
Is there anything I have to be aware of when choosing the QName ?
    Best regards

  • TRFC call are very slow going to SIEBEL (TCP/IP RFC problem)

    Hi everyone,
we have a problem when testing a connection to a TCP/IP RFC. this is also related to IDOCS being pushed to SIEBEL end. the logon time is very slow.
not sure if this is on SAP end or on theirs. Could anyone give info on this? any would be appreciated.

    Hi,
i've resolved problem 46029, but it remains loop problem in Oracle Bi Administration Tool. In addition, if in Answers I click on "Create Direct Request" I have results immediately. Otherwise if I submit a query on "Settings->Administration->Issue SQL, system goes in loop as in Administration Tool. At this point a begin to think that problem is at AWM creation cube step. In your opinion? What about your opinion? What other checks can I do, to resolve the situation?
P.S. If I submit the same query given from NQSQuery.log under SQL PLUS, it goes in loop.
P.S.2. I've tried all on a smaller cube. "Update Row Count" or "Retrieve Data" in Administration Tool now responds in acceptable time. I've deployed cube in Answers, and even in it , query returns in acceptable time. But it's a very small cube. For larger cubes situation is that explained. However, in this way, i think i can exclude all previous problems as cause of my issue. What do you think? However the problem remains. What can i do?
My trouble is that I have still deployed a month ago a cube which responds in two seconds even to complex queries :-). Since that moment, performance has been always worst. The only change i've made has been of execute procedure to have multiple catalogs (and rpds) on same machine...
    Thanks
    Giancarlo

  • Scrolling slow with initial marquee selection, but very fast when adding to selection

I've found that when I zoom in and try to make a selection that requires me to scroll beyond the viewable area, the scrolling becomes very slow when I scroll down. And if I add to the selection (via shift) the scroll becomes very fast, as if the shift key nudges the screen by x number of pixels, just as if I were to shift-move a layer. Is this the intended behavior?

Ramon, my apologies. I own a MacBook Pro running OS 10.5.6, 2.4 GHz prcoessor with 2 GB of RAM, and 256 MB of VRAM. I'm using Photoshop CS4.
So I ran a couple tests and I think I know what's occurring. The scroll speed seems dependent on how close or far the cursor is from the canvas edge (the axis in between the image and the scrollbar). So for example, if I were to do a max zoom the window would expand to the very edge of the desktop. When I start the marquee and move my cursor to scroll it's unable to move any further from the axis because of the desktop edge. This would cause it to scroll more slowly.
Here are a couple of test vids (The zoom is at 3200% and I set up the camera to focus on the top right of the screen):
Window right up against desktop edge (automatically positioned via Photoshop max zoom)
    http://s87.photobucket.com/albums/k156/darthsauce/mac/?action=view&current=horiz01.flv
Window edge moved a little away from desktop edge
    http://s87.photobucket.com/albums/k156/darthsauce/mac/?action=view&current=horiz03.flv
Window edge moved past the desktop edge (but axis is still visible)
    http://s87.photobucket.com/albums/k156/darthsauce/mac/?action=view&current=horiz00.flv
Could this be considered an oversight in the design since zoom automatically resizes the window for us (of course, this would affect users differently depending on their zoom ratio and display resolution)? This means that I'll have to resize the window each time the zoom fills the desktop in order to scroll at a proper rate.
