German umlaute and file download

hi to all!
hope someone can help me.
I have a directory, let's say test, with a WEB-INF directory in it. ordinarry web-app...
within "test" there is a file called gl�hw�rmchen.pdf. I want to download this file. when i use a link
Gl�hw�rmchen a 404 STATUS CODE is returned. Tomcat 4.1.18 doesn't find the resource but it is DEFINITELY in there.
I know that this is no bug, i just don't understand somethig. How can i tell Tomcat 4.1.18 to return files with german umlaute???

sorry that's not the solution of the problem. I have prooved that my file is in the correct directory. It's NOT a context path problem. Other files are downloaded.....

when I click the first or second a link, the files are transmitted, but the third file NOT.... The filename is written correctly. The Apache Tomcat 4.1.18 just doesn't find the file. REMEMBER!!! The Webserver FINDS the two other files in THE SAME DIRECTORY BUT NOT THOSE containing german umlaute. WHY????

to POST (using jsp) some data containing umlauts, an invalid character
('?') will be showed instead of the umlaut on solaris. the same
procedure works well on NT.

enter a "ä" in a "notes" tab of the wls server settings (wherever you
like).

Hello Rolf,
It looks to me that the code conversion table between Unicode and the german
code page in JDK is not correct, or you may be running on the wrong locale
(codepage).
To verify that, use native2ascii.
1. Edit a file that has the german-umlauts and save it
2. execute native2ascii filename_input filename_output
3. execute native2ascii -reverse filename_output filename_output2
4. Open filename_output2 to see if it goes to ?
If it went to ?, you are in one of the above.

Web browsing and file downloads stops

Hi Guys,
I've been looking at a few posts but not seen the answer yet. I'd be grateful if someone could help me out or point me in the right direction.
I had BT Infinity 2 installed with the HH5 on Friday. I have problems with browsing web pages. When I click a link most of the time the page loads quickly without issue, but then occassionally the page wont load and the page will 'stick'. It sometimes take 30-60 seconds for the page to fully load, or there is a timeout. Usually, by reloading the page it resolves this and the page loads really quickly again but within a minute you will have the same issue.
Also, I have downloaded a few files, from 300mb to 1gb. Just like web browsing, the file download will stop and the only way to resume the download is to reboot the HH5. I had to reboot the HH5 five times to download the full 1gb file. I checked the connection and it's not dropping so I wonder why the connection just stops or sticks for a while.
I know it can take a while for the connection to settle down but it shouldn't stop working.
Am hoping someone could help me out with this as i need this for my business.

I would leave it alone for the next few days and do not keep restarting the Homehub. This will cause DLM (Dynamic Line Management) to kick in and lower your speeds because it will interpret the restarts as a fault. It is normal for the speeds to fluctuate during the training period. If things do not improve after the ten day training period post back for more advice.

Web Pages and file download corruption Cisco VPN

We have a problem our users are having. Clients are having problems using Cisco 5.06 VPN along with Internet Explorer. Quite often web pages hang or load incorrectly or unformatted. Also links to documents or downloads are downloaded unusable (i.e. a PDF file that is corrupt). If you refresh the page or retry the download it will work eventually. None of these problems exist while they are directly on the corporate network. (Win7 32-bit OS)
Our standard corporate VPN installation package uses Cisco VPN 5.0.06.0160 which installs version 3.22.4.17992 of DNE (Deterministic Network Enhancer), It also installs the DNE Update version 4.9.1.1837. This combination works correctly in our standard corporate build. The problem exists in two of non-standard builds on a couple different hardware models.
If I uninstall the DNE update and the VPN client and just install the VPN client by itself without the DNE Update (which leaves the client at 3.22.4.17992 for DNE) the problem goes away and the web pages load correctly and the files download properly.
I have tried the latest DNE, and updates to the NIC driver without success. Any suggestions or logic to why the newer versions of DNE will not work. The hardware we are using are high end HP and Dell Mobile workstations that are only about a year old. We have a problem our users are having. German umlauts :Sender File Adapter

Hi,
I am trying to configure Sender File adapter,but it is not working properly for German umlauts.
I have tried encoding UTF-8, UTF-16, ISO-8859-1,ISO-8859-2, ISO-8859-5 but none of them are working.
Can anyone please help me out in this.

German Umlaute and SQLite3?

I'm struggling with SQLite 3 and German Umlaute (ä, ö, ü, etc.)
It seems as if I cannot do WHERE x LIKE y clauses with German Umlaute recognized. Here's a code excerpt:

So the idea here is that I search for rows WHERE city LIKE <parameter c>. It works fine without Umlaute. E.g. rows like Berlin, London, etc. are returned. However, when I search e.g. for Lünen, it does not work. I believe that the [c UTF8String] strips out Umlaute, but just using c does not work, either.
Any help?

SQLite does not properly handle accented characters. From the SQLite documentation:
The LIKE operator is not case sensitive and will match upper case characters on one side against lower case characters on the other. (A bug: SQLite only understands upper/lower case for 7-bit Latin characters. Hence the LIKE operator is case sensitive for 8-bit iso8859 characters or UTF-8 characters. For example, the expression 'a' LIKE 'A' is TRUE but 'æ' LIKE 'Æ' is FALSE.).
Although it does not explicitly state it, 'Lünen' LIKE 'Lunen' is FALSE.

German umlauts (and other foreign characters) using UK keyboard

How do I type a umlaut, o umlaut and u umlaut? Also, ss (like a B)?
Holding down Alt and a etc. does not work.

The principle of the thing is that you use the Keyboard Viewer to change the mapping of key codes to character codes, much as you would have used the KeyCaps Utility in the past.
Keyboard viewer enables you to see the results of using the option key if you don't remember the shortcuts Peter gave above. If you know those you just type them. You can also see the result of using special fonts for symbols etc. It does not change the results of hitting a particular key in a particular font.
Because the key graphics are engraved on the keys, changing the mapping of key codes to character codes does not change the key graphics.
Hand up all those who thought it would.
This is a problem for which Apple has several patents in play. These are patents for much improved input methods to interactively change the key graphics when the mapping of key codes to character codes is changed.
Which I am sure we will all enjoy seeing and paying for in the distant future

Dialog boxes and file download

I need to make a program(open dialog box) that will choose a file and return the filename that it chooses. And i also need a program that will download a txt file from a pc to my own pc. I need help

Mod_osso folder protection and file download issue

We are using 10.1.2.2 AS with SSO. I have a directory under the htdocs directory that I have specified to be protected via SSO. This part works fine.
I have a protected directory of log files which works fine. Even a log file of 54M downloads fine.
I have a protected DOCS folder that contains
1 .doc file 4.9M,
1 .doc file 78K
1 .pdf file 2.1M
After the user logs in via SSO, they can download the .pdf and the small .doc file, but the large .doc file gives the following error message:
Internet Explorer cannot download largefile.doc from localhost
Internet Explorer was not able to open this Internet site. The requested site is either unavailable or cannot be found. Please try again later.
This has also happened to me in the past with large .zip files.

I had wondered whether it was the websites issue: i've since managed to get the application-my friend downloaded it onto his phone over the internet and Bluetoothed it to me, so i've got it anyway. Just a bit strange, as i transfereed the file to my Mac and it decompressed into a folder again...

Browsing is very slow on Mac Mini connected to 100mbit LAN. FTP and file download is very fast.

I have a strange behaviour of my Mac MIni 2012. The mini is connected to the internet by LAN. When I download a file via http or ftp everything is very fast (arround 95mbit/s). But when I try to open a website in Safari, Chrome or Firefox i have to wait some seconds until the page starts rendering.after the page is rendered completely, everything works fast and smooth.
Do you have any ideas where the problem migth be? I have reinstalled Mavericks from zero yesterday. The problem resists. With my Macbook Air (conntected to the same router) and my Windows computer I dont have this problem.

By any chance, do you run sophos? I had the same issue as you and fixed it on my mac mini and macbook pro by doing the following:
Sophos --> Open Preferences --> Web Protection --> General
You will need to enter your admin password after clicking the padlock in the bottom left to allow you to change settings.
From there, deactivate "Block access to malicious websites using realtime URL reputation checks". For good measure, I also deactivated "Block malicious downloads from websites".

Verification Fails for Software Update AND files downloaded from Apple

Hi all,
Upon first running software update on my brand new MacBook Pro 15", I remember seeing that the verification of a couple downloads failed. After restarting repeatedly and running software update again and again, I eventually narrowed the culprit down to an iPhoto update image.
Bizarrely, even downloading the .dmg from the Apple Downloads site, in multiple browsers, would result in a failed verification. Yet downloading on other machines worked fine.
Now, I'm having trouble verifying the checksum of the iWork image from Apple's own site. I haven't the first clue about what's happening here.
Does anyone have even the faintest idea?

try if booting your Mac into _*safe mode*_ helps. while in safe mode, repair permissions using disk utility, then reboot normally.
if the .dmg mounts on one of your other Macs, you can use your network to install the software. mount the .dmg on the other Mac and connect to it from the problem machine.

German Umlaut and special character

I have a dynamic text field that I need to populate with
German characters like ä, ë, ü, ö . . .I have
done this hundreds of times with MX2004, but after installing Flash
Professional CS3, it does not work?

The kerberos 5 standard has not specified how to deal with non-ASCII principal names, so you'd better avoid them.
BTW, how do you input the umlaut character into the login screen? Are you using a German keyboard? I don't know how to turn the input method there.

Apex 4.0 Cascading Select List: ajax problem with german umlaute

I have problems with german umlaute and ajax cascading select lists (Cascading LOV Parent Item).
The data is populated without a page refresh in the select list when the parent select list changes but special signs like german umlaute are shown as weird characters.
Seems like there is some charset problem with ajax.
This is the only part of the application where special signs like umlaute are messed up. Everything else is fine.
I allready tried to figure out if I can escape the umlaute in the javascript (file apex_widget_4_0.js) but no success here.
Can anybody help me with this issue?

your specified character set in your DAD is wrong. As mentioned in the installation instructions at http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E17556_01/doc/install.40/e15513/otn_install.htm#CHDHCBGI , Oracle APEX always requires AL32UTF8.

German 'Umlaute' vs. BW

Hello,
we are a german company with plants in the whole world, so of course we have problems with the german umlaute and other special characters.
When i put data from the psa to the cube, very lots of records will be blocked because of its umlaute. I cannot manage that problem by replacing them manual. And imo must exist a better way than creating formulas or routines on every row?
As all are describing fields i could imagine to allow umlaute? Should I? Or is there another way to handle this?

Same problem with the french special characters: é
I got a request with about 1000 packages a 1000 records. And in nearly every package there are one or two records containing a french street.
Editing is cumbersome. Simply allowing all characters isn't the right way, is it?
Should i build a function on the field or is there a better way?

PDF printing German umlauts

Hello all,
I'm trying to use the new "Report Query" and "Report Layout" feature. First of all I have to say that my PDF printing setup works generally. My problem has nothing to do with that. Here's what I'm trying to do and what my problem is:
I'm using a report query on a table which has data with german umlauts (äöüÄÖÜ) and special characters (ß) in it. Trying to print that report with the standard layout works. I see my german nls characters. If I try to apply a XSL-FO stylesheet I get # signs for my german nls characters. I played with the encoding of my stylesheet but that has no effect. TRANSLATE ... USING or CONVERT hasn't any effect either. I also changed the PlsqlNLSLanguage setting in my dads.conf to GERMAN_GERMANY, but that also has no effect. Now I'm pretty lost.
Anybody out there has some tips on using german special characters in report queries with own written XSL-FO stylesheets ?
