Get Adobe Extension Signing Certificate

Hello,
I am a Creative Cloud member and have been working on developing an Extension for InDesign and InCopy versions CS 5.x and above. We are intending to extend the support for other Adobe products also at a later date. Until now, I have been signing the zxp file with a certificate that I created via ExtensionBuilder, but now, we are getting ready to ship the extension to some of our prospective customers as a beta version for some feedback. And for that I need to get the extension signed with a certificate by a recognized authority, so that user does not get an error looking message while installing the extension.
I did look around a little on Adobe forums and google but could not get a concrete list or steps to do so. What I need to know is:
1. what all kinds of certificates are available,
2. how to choose which one I should go for,
3. how to get the certificate,
4. certificate's validity (number of uses / time period) and
5. the cost involved.
I believe the process of signing the extension will be the same (I am using ant script to build and sign the zxp); please correct me if I am wrong.
Any help is much appreciated.
- Swati.

I was kind of stuck on this one. We need to dispatch the extension to the customers for feedback. I have been searching online for a clue but no luck.
Any help will be much appreciated.
Does Adobe give out extension signing certificate? If not, any preferences?

  • Extension signing certificate issues

I'm having problems with my current certificate issuer (Globalsign) as they decided not to support developers any more and have to change to another company; this means my certificate can't be renewed.
My knowledge about certificates is very limited, please can you help me?
Extensions released with the old certificate can still be installed after it expires ? If, yes, will the user become a warning or something else ?
Some users reported ( before the related certificate issue) that they got "invalid signature" warnings (mainly with CC) and they had to disable internet access in the extension manager to get it installed, this makes me think about the whole system.
Is really a certificate needed ? Why not just allow us to input our contact details and let the user decide to trust or not?
Just paying a yearly fee only to guarantee that our names appear at the installation seems not to be very reliable. May be Adobe can allow extension builder developers an easier way to sign our extensions.
Btw, I assume I'm not the only one signing the extensions, right ?
    Thanks for any help.

  • Adobe's Signing Certificates?

Where is Adobe's signing certificate? And are there hashes for downloads posted somewhere? I found a PGP public key tucked away in the dark corners of the security section of their company page, but can't find certificates anywhere. That seems wrong for a company with such a huge online presence.

All of them. I'm talking about the certificate used to verify the security of the connection to Adobe's websites. It's probably more for tin foil hat types like me, but since it's sort of become a standard protocol and since it's not hard to spoof websites, I like to check those things out and make sure they're set up in my browser and email apps.
The hashes are less of a concern since most of the downloads come through Creative Cloud, but a lot of places have a general repository showing the files and their hash. For example, Ubuntu lists theirs here: UbuntuHashes - Community Help Wiki.

  • Adobe code signing certificate revocation and SCCM

We have many install packages for different Adobe products in SCCM 2007 but nothing that would have been obtained or downloaded from Adobe since July 10, 2012.  Does that mean we don’t have to do anything?  Is that a correct interpretation of your statements about the Adobe code signing certificate revocation issue?

    Yes.  That's correct.

  • Adobe Extension signing - which platform should I choose?

    1. I created Adobe Extension using Extension Builder 3  (HTML5 Extension) for Photoshop CC.
    2. I want to buy Code Signing Certificate for it.
On this site for example https://www.globalsign.com/code-signing/ I have to choose "Platform" form "Supported Platforms" list.
On that site such list looks like this:
    MS Autheticode
    Adobe AIR
    Apple
    Mozilla & Netscape
    MS Office & VBA
    Java
Which platform should I choose to sign adobe extension?
Maybe it does not matter which one?

illustrator is the one which needs higher components as the other programms, right?
No, Photoshop is, assuming you are speaking of CS4 and are concerned about hardware accelerated features like the soft zoom or 3D features in PS Extended. Those only work with NVidia or ATI cards. If you can live without those features, it doesn't matter which system you get. The only critical factor then becomes RAM - the more, the better. One word of warning on the way: Make sure, your laptop supports the minimum system requirements in terms of screen resolution. If not, you may not even be able to install the software let alone use it.

  • Get Adobe Extension Manager app path from registry

    Hi!
I have been looking to develop an installer that installs my extension through Inno Setup. I want to launch the Adobe Extension Manager as a post install process in the [Run] section of the Inno Setup install process. Now, there can be multiple versions of Extension Manager installed on a machine, the latest version of Extension Manager is launched by default. I want to make sure that the product version chosen by the user during installation launches the corresponding Extension Manager. Eg., if a machine has Photoshop CS5, CS6 installed, and the user chooses Photoshop CS5, then the Extension Manager CS5 should be launched. For this, I want the path to the application. I am unable to get the Extension Manager path from the registry. Please help me with this.
I am aiming to use this installer on Win XP, 7, Vista (32/64 bit).
    Its urgent...
    Thanks!

    Hi Carl,
I had looked at the link you posted earlier too.. I see that you had posetd the answer then too! So, I can post my queries to you directly!
I created a jsx file named "Result.jsx", which I saved in my D drive, with the following code,
    resultFile = new File("D:/result.log");
    resultFile.open("w");
    resultFile.write(BridgeTalk.__diagnostics__);
    resultFile.close();
If I run this directly from ESTK, there is no problem, and I get the result.log file. I tried to execute this script via command line as shown in the screenshot,
On executing the above, I got the following error,
What am I doing wrong? I need to do this urgently. Please suggest a solution..
    Thanks!

Currently we are unable to add an iFrame to the main HTML panel without the Windows version of Adobe InDesign closing the extension automatically.  This works correctly on the MAC.

Okay, for anyone that is also having this problem I believe I figured out the problem. Adobe files are saved under .xpi extensions which is just another type of .zip file. If you do not have winzip installed you cannot install flash player. I now have mine working. Good luck!

  • Possible to select self-signed certificate for client validation when connecting to VPN with EAP-TLS

In windows 8.2, I have a VPN connection configured with PPTP as the outer protocol and EAP : "Smart card or other certificate ..." as the inner protocol. Under properties, in the "When connecting" section I've selected "Use a certificate
on this computer" and un-checked "Use simple certificate selection".
My preference would be to use separate self-signed certificates for all clients rather than having a common root certificate that signed all of the individual client certificates. I've tried creating the self-signed certificate both with and without the
client authentication EKU specified, and I've added the certificate to the trusted root certificate authority store on the client. But when I attempt to connect to the VPN I can not get the self signed certificate to appear on the "Choose a certificate"
    drop down.
Are self signed certificates supported for this use in EAP-TLS? If it makes a difference, I'm working with makecert (not working with a certificate server).
    TIA,
    -Rick

    Hi Rick,
    Thank you for your patience.
According to your description, would you please let me know what command you were using to make a self-signed certificate by tool makecert? I would like to try to reproduce this issue. Also based on my experience, please let me
know if the certificate has private key associated and be present in the local machine store. Hence, please move the certificate from the trusted root certificate authority store to personal store.
    Best regards,
    Steven Song

  • Need HELP getting my signed certificate to be recognized by Extension Builder in Eclipse! Getting Error in Windows!

When I use Extension Builder 3 in Eclipse to package my files into a .zxp ... I get an 'invalid certificate' error.  Working in Windows, with Photoshop CC 2014.
This .p12 certificate does currently work find in Configurator 4 for my CS6 panels.
Please help me get this working! Thank you!

    Hi hdbrew,
"extension doesn't contain a valid signature" is a warning message that I've got in the past when Adobe Extension Manager (AEM) wasn't up to date - so you might check whether you've the latest version here: https://creative.adobe.com/en/products/extension-manager.
Paid vs. Free (self signed) certificates: I had a paid one in the past (no AEM warnings) but there are a couple of shortcomings IMHO:
    1. With Adobe Add-ons, AEM and its warning alerts are bypassed altogether (files are deployed via the CC app) - so from the user point of view there's no difference between self-signed and paid certificates.
    2. An extension signed with a paid certificate stops working when the certificate expires. Self signed ones keep working even past the expiration date.
And three, I find it "peculiar" to pay a third party authority to certificate Adobe that I am who I am in order to be allowed to developed for... Adobe itself (lot of words to say: free is cheaper ).
Extension Builder for bundling: as I wrote, personally I don't use EB - it's not been updated in a while (it's been acknowledged by the EB team too - who has kept releasing updates as CEP libraries) and I prefer a simple code editor + command line for signing and packaging, so others can be more helpful than me.
Yet, if you don't need to package an hybrid extension, it's a matter of a simple line, such as:
    ./ZXPSignCmd -sign yourSourceFolder yourDestFolder/yourExtensionName.zxp yourCertFile.p12 yourCertPassword -tsa https://timestamp.geotrust.com/tsa
Conversely, if you need to go hybrid (i.e. to deploy extra stuff alongside with your extension, e.g. a plugin) it's a matter of compiling an MXI file and the whole process is slightly more complex. Anyway, you can find information in the blogpost I mentioned earlier (the full series of 16 Tips so far is here).

  • Adobe AIR 3 Performance Issues and Code Signing Certificate Problem

I recently updated to Adobe AIR 3.0 SDK (and runtime) doing HTML/Javascript development using Dreamweaver CS5.5 in a Windows 7 Home Premium (64 bit).
The AIR app I'm developing runs well from within Dreamweaver. But when I create/package the AIR app and install it on my machine:
    1. The app literally CRAWLS running it in my Windows 7 12G RAM machine (especially when I use the mouse to mouse over a 19-by-21 set of hyperlinks on a grid) --- IT IS THAT SLOOOOWWWW...
    2. The app runs fine in my Mac OS X 10.6.8 with 4G RAM, also using the Adobe AIR 3 runtime.
About the Code Signing Certificate problem:
When I try to package the AIR app with ADT using AIR's temporary certificate feature, I get the error message "Could not generate timestamp: handshake alert: unrecognized_name".
I found some discussions on this problem in an Adobe AIR Google Groups forum, but no one has yet offered any resolution to the issue. Someone said Adobe is using the Geotrust timestamping service --- located at https://timestamp.geotrust.com/tsa --- but going to this page produces a "404 --- Page not found" error.

  • What code signing certificate has to be added for Adobe Air Native Installer?

    Hi,
I'm developing Adobe Air application. I need to digitally verify the application to add the publisher's name with the product. I did a little research and came to know that Symantec, Thawte, Comodo, Comodo-Tucows, Digicert, Godaddy and couple of others are doing this.
Yes. I'm talking about the Code Signing Certificate. My question is, What code signing certificate has to be added for Adobe Air Native Installer? The reason is, The native installer will have an extension .exe ( Windows ) and .dmg ( MAC OS X ).
These guys are providing certificate for Adobe Air. For instance, If the application is exported using Native Installer in Windows, The application will have an .exe extension. For this, Can I use the same Adobe Air code signing certificate or Should I go for Microsoft Autheticode ( for .exe ) certificate?
    Thanks in advance.

I think comodo code signing certificate is one of the nice option to be added for Adobe Air, as i have seen comodo code signing certificate in other adobe programs. Recently i bought comodo code signing from https://cheapsslsecurity.com/comodo/codesigningcertificate.html, to sign one of my adobe application and it works fine, you can use microsoft authenticode technology with comodo code signing.

  • TC Publisher ID for Adobe AIR - easier signing certificate?

I'm was about to go through the burning hoop that is the
signing certificate, when I found a link to Chosen Security's
TC Publisher ID for Adobe AIR. I'm having a hard time finding
any info on it other than their press release though.
Has anyone obtained one of these? Its it easier than a thawte
    signing certificate?
    What documents are required?

I just purchased a TC Publisher ID certificate and am a little stumped in getting AIR to publish with it.
The TrustCenter marketing site's only instructional material for this product, as far as I can tell, is a link to the Adobe docs on using certificates: http://help.adobe.com/en_US/AIR/1.5/devappsflex/WS5b3ccc516d4fbf351e63e3d118666ade46-7ff0. html
There's a little more info in this dev article, but not much: http://www.adobe.com/devnet/air/articles/signing_air_applications_03.html
Both these resources focus on Thawte certificates as a use case, and don't mention what to do if you're using OS X and a TC Publisher ID.
In my own experience, I downloaded the cert directly to my downloads folder from the TrustCenter site. The certificate was instantly picked up by the OS X keychain. I used the Keychain Access app to  export a .p12 certificate file from the keychain for use in publishing the AIR app, but I get an "Error creating AIR file: unable to build a valid certificate chain for the signer" when trying to publish with Flex Builder. Without any docs to turn to, I'm stumped.
For people more experienced with keys and certificates this operation might be a no-brainer, but for somebody who is just getting into this there's not much support for the purchase-to-publish process.
