Get ALWAYS result of syntax check of sqlplus possible ?

When I pass an sql script to sqlplus as parameter then syntax errors may occur.
It could happen that I type e.g.
SELECT * from mytable
without trailing semicolon.
In this case sqlplus stops processing and waits forever without informing the
user about the problems.
Can I force sqlplus to send syntax check and error results in every case back to the user ?

Until you tell SQL*Plus that you've completed the statement by adding the semicolon, though, it has no idea when to do the syntax check. It has no idea whether you're in the middle of typing in a query that is going to span multiple lines, whether you've stopped typing to talk to someone in the hall, or whether you intended to submit a query but forgot the semicolon.
Realistically, this is just part of debugging a script.

  • EAS/AAS Calc Script Editor - Syntax Check

Hey folks. I've got a very small problem that has been driving me nuts.
When I validate a calc script, the syntax check always tells me "syntax check was successful" whether the calc is valid or not. I've tried every silly way to get the check to fail but the calc always comes back as valid. (added my name to calc. typed a sentence about what I had for lunch into a calc. nothing works)
The lack of validation has forced me to write clean calcs on the first try so it hasn't been all that bad.
Has anyone else seen this? Is there a setting I can change somewhere? I never had this problem at my last job where we were running EAS 7.1.6, but here we are running AAS 9.3.0.1.0 Build 5. Normally I run AAS through Citrix, but I get the same result if I remote directly to the server.
I appreciate any help you can offer.

Unfortunately, this version of EAS was very buggy. Lots of validation errors were not trapped. Upgrading to 9.3.1 significantly improved the quality of EAS formula validations.

  • Getting result from multiple check boxes

We want to get the value from checkboxes as
    input type=checkbox name="aa"
    input type=checkbox name="aa"
now we want to get the value if user checked the box then on else off

Well the only way you can distinguish between the two is if you give them seperate values
otherwise all you will get is aa=on - how do you know which one is on?
    <input type="checkbox" name="aa" value="1">
    <input type="checkbox" name="aa" value="2">
If they click both you will get parameters: aa=1, aa=2
If they click only one, you will only get one parameter: eg aa=1
If they click no checkboxes, no parameters are submitted.
    Thats the way it works.
    Cheers,

    int a = a.length();
    int b = b.length();
    int c = c.length();
    int d = d.length();
    int e = e.length();

    mailBody = mailBody + a + " " + b + " " + c + " " + d + " " + e + "<BR>";
    result.addValue(mailBody);
It it didn't work. Think we are missing something. Can please help us to figure it out.

  • Warning assigning 0 to BA... in ABAP syntax check on DELETE itab statement

    Hello,
I didn't see an answer to that question in the forum/internet, nor in SAP notes, so I post it.
I have a 7.01 system, and this code:
    TYPES : BEGIN OF ts_record,
              carrid    TYPE S_CARR_ID,
              employees TYPE p,
            END OF ts_record.
TYPES tt_record TYPE SORTED TABLE OF ts_record
          WITH UNIQUE KEY carrid.
    DATA lt_record TYPE tt_record.
    DELETE lt_record WHERE employees = 0.
The syntax check sends the following warning and places the cursor on the number "0" of the DELETE statement:
Assigning "0" to "BA" could result in data loss. It is therefore not
possible to optimize the LOOP. The components and values should have
identical types The types have identical types
Same thing if I make the internal table hashed or non-unique.
The warning is removed only if I replace 0 by a data object of same type as EMPLOYEES, or if I make the internal table standard.
Do you now why, I mean what is the intrinsec kernel algorithm that would make something slow? (and why a "data loss"?, what is "BA", is it a wrong translation or something else?)
    Thank you
    Sandra

    Hi Gautham,
So, it would mean something like "hey do you know you could access the internal table by using = on the key fields and it will be optimized", like a kind of advertisement, but sent only in a few cases, I don't see why in other ones they are not sent... Hopefully we don't have this warning with READ TABLE. Maybe this warning is more useful in 7.02 with secondary index... ( BTW could somebody test if the warning is sent in 7.02 systems? )
In German, I get a better message I think, so "BA" is a bug:
Die Zuweisung von "0" nach "EMPLOYEES" ist potentiell nicht
verlustfrei. Es sind deshalb keine Optimierungen beim LOOP möglich.
Bitte eine identische Typisierung bei Komponenten und Werten benutzen.
    which is google-translated:
The assignment of "0" after "EMPLOYEES" is potentially not
without loss. It is therefore not possible to use optimizations for LOOP.
Please identical components and typing in values.
    which seems a better translation.
    Hi Maximilian,
you're right, <= keeps the warning from being displayed, that's fun!
Well, I guess the warning is not very welcome, I hope that will be changed in the future!
    Thanks for your valuable answers

One more question: Is there a way to suppress this warning from the syntax check?

    Hi,
Based on your description, I understand that this issue (C drive gets always full) occurred after Exchange
    Server 2013 installed.
    à
But my exchange server is installed in different Drive (EX: D)
I suggest that you should check file system to see what folders or files are taking up the space recently.
This issue may be not related to Exchange server.
Please refer to the following article and enable Disk Cleanup Utility. Then monitor the result.

Meanwhile, please check if the winsxs directory is growing bigger.

to Reduce the Size of the Winsxs directory and Free Up Disk Space on Windows Server 2012 Using Features on Demand
By the way, please check if you have installed update rollup 2836988. I noticed that Windows.edb file grows
very large. For more details, please refer to the following KB.

If any update, please feel free to let me know.
    Hope this helps.

  • CS5 will not compile AS3; no AS3 Syntax Check; no AS3 Auto Format

I had the trial version of CS5, but it expired. I bought the upgrade and tried to modify a previous Document Class from CS3 in AS3, but the Syntax Check just gives me the error beep, not the happy "ding" with the no errors popup. I try to click the Auto Format and the IDE pops up an error window: "This script contains syntax errors, so it cannot be Auto Formatted. Fix the errors and try again." No errors are in the ouput window (even with either Filter level). Document Classes do nothing even though the compilation runs without any problems; no errors, but no code execution (not even a trace("x");).
This seems related to the "no code hinting" posts, but I've tried their workarounds, but nothing seems to get my AS3 engine working properly.
I have removed, reinstalled & rebooted 3 times, the demo version and LWS version (which have different sized install Setup.exe ?!?!), and tried the Adobe update. I also tried using the 4.1.0 flex_sdk, but I've found no solution.
All the code I am trying in CS5 comes from CS3 and Sytnax Check fine and Auto Formats correctly. AS2 in CS5 functions as expected with Syntax Check and Auto Format working just fine.
My repeated Web cases through the Support Portal have been denied and they tell me to post it here. I posted to the Flash General forum, but no one had anything to say.
I'm on Win XP Pro SP3.
    Thanks,
    Dave

    Dave,
It sounds to me like you may need to find a clean up script after the app is uninstalled. Or you can try just a few bits and pieces or you code to start with in a new file. That's the only thing I can think of besides reformatting to clear your entire registry of Adobe Flash items. I always do a reformat of my entire computer everytime a new version of the Adobe products comes out, saves a bit of headache.

  • How to programatically syntax check development objects

    Hello,
We are going through a test upgrade project (4.6C to 4.7) and need to identify all custom objects that have syntax errors. I was able to find some FMs that do syntax check for executable programs (EDITOR_SYNTAX_CHECK, CHECK_SOURCE, etc) but was not able to find any FM/Program that can syntax check different kind of development objects like tables, FMs, Includes, programs, etc. It seems that different objects use different syntax check programs. I am basically getting a list of custom objects from tadir and then want to submit this object to a FM that can tell me if the object is syntactically OK.
    Any help is much appreciated.

    Hello All,
With the tips I got from you I was able to identify a transaction called SCI - Code Inspector that does everything that I was wanting to do.
You need to specify an object set that you want to inspect (e.g.: Z programs, Z function groups, etc) along with the type of inspection (syntax check, object generation, etc) you want to perform via a variant and then create an inspection referring to the object set and variant and that's it. The result gives a complete list of objects based on the type of inspection you wanted performed. Another useful thing that I found was an ABAP statement called syntax-check that you can use to check executable programs and function groups without calling any FMs. It is limited in the type of objects it can check but works great for executable programs.
Keep up the great work and thanks again to all of you that responded.
A special thanks to Sailatha for the code inspection program tip.

  • Why a simple php syntax checker extension doesn't exist yet for Dreamweaver CS4 ?

    Hello,
my request is in the subject ;-)
I remember a very useful extension in Golive CS8/9 that did exactly that :
Duplicate from DW the currently edited php/html page to a temp file
Send the temp file to the command line : "/path/to/php -l /path/to/temp/file"
Display the command output ("syntax ok" or "error on line ##") directly INSIDE dreamweaver
It required only that an apache/php package was installed on the developer's computer (using whater Xampp, or Wamp, etc.)
Though you might say to me that I should use a PHP IDE wich is dedicated specifically to that goal, I wonder why a such extension does not exist... as it is a great time saver when rapid syntax checking is required before uploading...
I may be wrong but i can't find anything close to that via google / adobe studio exchange search results...
Should I start to learn the dreamweaver CS4 API extension documention or someone can give me a hint to achieve that ?
    Thanks everyone.

    Hi M.Zografski
I have tried to clear that cache the only thing I keep running into is that the file that is listed doesn't even match the way my dreamweaver loaded onto my computer. I get up to the point of the Adobe file then my next one is shown as Adobe Dreamweaver CS4- I choose this and then there is no file in there showing the language at all. I have a file listed as %AppData% and if I choose this one then it shows Thinstall file and this opens into Adobe AIR- then this has some registry files and another fold as %drive_C% which opens to Adobe then to Dreamweaver then to en_US then Configuration which does contain a file RDSINFO and it appears to be empty. This seems very round about to getting to the cache file and I was unsure of whether or not this was what I was indeed looking for.  Also if I try to search for this WinFileCache with that file name I get no results.
Why is this being so stubborn. I am thinking if I could locate the file then it would all go well
    Thanks
    Teresa

  • Tool for Syntax check

    Hi,
exist a function or a tool that check if syntax in a script is correct?
    Thanks a lot
    Cristina

    user5366366 wrote:
exist a function or a tool that check if syntax in a script is correct?Yes.. kind of. You can use DMBS_SQL to parse SQL or PL/SQL code only - without executing it. A successful parse means it passed syntax checking within that specific session environment.
A dirty method that can be used from any client is to add "+EXPLAIN PLAN+" to the SQL - and instead of asking Oracle to execute the SQL, request it to parse it and generate an execution plan for you. Again, a successful execution plan result means a successful parse - and again, for that specific session environment only.
Why is session environment important? There are NLS setting that can make an explicit string to date conversion of a literal work in one session and fail in another. The current scope of the session could point to a different schema. Etc.
So even though you may get a successful parse, it could be pretty meaningless as when it is executed the environment is different.
Which then begs the question why do you not parse it once up front, and then used the code in its "+parsed+" format? This is what stored procedure code does for you. And why it is a better option than to store the source code externally, outside Oracle, on another system.
There are also a host of other issues to consider such as security, maintenance, access control and so on, that makes stored code a significantly superior option all around than storing SQL and PL/SQL code in some external script somewhere.

  • SQL Syntax check

    Hello all,
Is there a way to check sql syntax against the dataabse/table without acctually running against the table ?? If you are familar with RMAN...it has a rman syntax check cmd.. ( RMAN> rman checksyntax )....which will tell you if its a valid statment or not...
is there anything similar for sqlplus ??? i am on 10.2.0.3 on Solrais....Something where i can run select * from emp; but not actually execute the statment against the database ??

  • Syntax check error in the standard include

    Hi,
I have modified one standard include using access key to insert one logic as per businness requirements. Now after inserting that code iam getting syntax error but while activating it is not showing the error and getting activated.
The include is V05XZZMO in that i have inserted code is as follows
    FORM MOVE_USERFIELDS USING ZP.
      CASE ZP.
        WHEN 'VBRK'.
        header
        MOVE LVBRK-XXXXX TO LFAMTV-ZZXXXXX.
    *{   INSERT         GDVK934083                                        1
              MOVE LVBRK-ZUONR TO LFAMTV-ZZZUONR.
    *}   INSERT
        WHEN 'VBRP'.
        item
        MOVE LVBRP-XXXXX TO LFAMTV-ZZXXXXX.
    *{   INSERT         GDVK934083                                        2
       MOVE LVBRP-MATWA TO LFAMTV-ZZMATWA.
    *}   INSERT
      ENDCASE.
    ENDFORM.
now it is throwing error saying that LFAMTV doesn't exist...when I double click on that it is taking me to the FM RV_INVOICE_VIEW_2 where it is defined....
Can anyone know the reason why it is throwing the error when we go for the syntax check but when u activate the program it is getting activated.. so can this error can be neglected?
Any help on this will be appreciated..
    Regards,
    Rohan.

    Hi,
First comment ur code and then activate the include.
Now put a break point in the form and then in the debug mode check the structre LFAMTV is visible or not.
if yes then once again add ur code and then activate the whole program.
and now once again debug it and see...., whether the values are updated to the strurure LFAMTV.

  • SQL Developer 1.1.0.21: Issues with Data Grid and SQL syntax checking

In this new release of SQL Dev, when I execute a SQL in the SQL Worksheet and click in the Data Grid in the Results tab and try to navigate within a record using arrow keys, the grid cell enters into edit mode by default and so I cannot use the Left or Right arrow keys to navigate the grid. I am forced to use tab key to navigate. This is counter intuitive in my opinion.
Is there any option to change this behavior?
Another issue that I have come across is with SQL syntax checking. In some cases, when I press F9 to execute a SQL, it shows the SQL as executed i.e. shows something like 0.0134 seconds in the toolbar and no results displayed. In reality, the SQL had some syntax error which were NOT reported. This can be frustrating since now I have to fall back to SQL*Plus or TOAD just for syntax check.
I like the fact that SQLDev highlights the current SQL but it would be more useful if it just indicated the first line of the current sql instead of highlighting the whole sql.

In the "Results" tab, Click Ctrl & Tab keys (at the same time) or with mouse click on any cell other than the first column (a sequence or rownum), you will be able to navigate using the arrow keys.

The 0.0134 seconds could be the result of the most recently executed successful statement. Check the Script Output tab for errors. Use F5 (Run Script option) instead of F9.

On the SQL statement (or code), Right Click -> Format SQL (or press Ctrl & B), proper formatting would help.
I use version 1.0.0.15.57 and seems to be working allright.
