"Get  Info" function is very slow

I have a 24" iMac (2.8 ghz core 2 duo, 4GB Ram) running 10.6.3. Anytime I select a file and choose "Get Info" from the right click menu, I get the dreaded spinning beach ball for approx 10 seconds before the file's info window is displayed. On this same computer using Leopard, the "get info" function always worked nearly instantaneously. Has anyone else experienced this or am I taking crazy pills?

Hello jin,
I check with my colleague from onsite there this is working fine with my login issue.
If i want to work on i have to connect through VPN only,
I want to know is there any problem with Java version, Plz guide me what to do?
Thanks

  • How do I notify Apple of a software failure:  in Win 7 64 bit, using Get Info function causes iTunes 10.5 to fail and exit?

I have Win7 64 bit running iTunes 10.5. When I import a CD and click on the "Get Info" context menu item for the CD drive item on the left side of the window, the expected context menu and input boxes appear. When I type anything into any of the available input boxes, iTunes immediately throws a fail exit to Windows. Here are relevant screen shots:
Right click on CD Device item to get context menu:
Click on Get Info menu item to open CD Info window:
Key in "A" in Artist input box, get immediate failure:
So far Microsoft hasn't notified me of any solutions to this failure.
This info needs to get to Apple, but I am not paying to give them information to fix their problems!
    Thanks for passing this along.
    D. V. Hirst
PS:  As a work around, I can highlight the entire CD worth of tracks and edit the common information in the Get Info function at that level...  Still, iTunes should not be throwing program failure exceptions in any case.  It is especially annoying on such common functions.  One might have expected a more thorough testing program prior to general release.

Thanks for your response. I attempted to do that, but I couldn't find any way to access the configuration for the Zhone router. Typing the IP address into my web browser's address bar only resulted in "page could not be found" or "page timed out", etc. I called tech support at Northstate, who likewise suggested that the Zhone router should be set to bridge mode and the AEBS set to router mode since it would be easier for me to configure the AirPort. After wrangling a bit with them over my inability to change any settings for the Zhone, they sent a technician over. He messed around with the Zhone, apparently putting it in bridge mode, and we managed to get the AirPort to work without any double NAT errors. I reset the AirPort and created a new configuration file. Unfortunately, when I went to the Advanced/Port Mapping menu and repeated the original steps to forward port 7777, tests at www.whatsmyip.org still returned "timed out". The technician said he wasn't knowledgable enough about Apple products to assist me any further and suggested I call their tech support or visit the nearest Genius Bar. So that's about it. Any other ideas?

  • The "get info" function is broken in iTunes 10 (and in iTunes 9.2)

*Steps to reproduce this iTunes BUG:*
    _Step 1._
Edit some track info (the id3 tags) in a third party program.
(I'm a DJ, so I'm using Serato Scratch Live http://serato.com/scratchlive to edit most tags)
    _Step 2._
Select all tracks in iTunes and press cmd+I to for the "Get Info" dialog.
    _Step 3._
Click the "OK" button in the "Multiple Item Information" dialog.
    *Expected Result:*
iTunes scans through all the selected tracks and updates any info that has been change in the 3rd party program. (This is default behavior in iTunes 9.1.1 and below)
    *Actual Result:*
iTunes will _no longer scan_ the files for updated info, it will only check if the files are still are available on disk.
*Why this is such a big deal:*
I get new music almost every day. All tracks need to go into the DJ software for BPM analyze and organization. Tracks will then be imported into iTunes and added to several smart lists for syncronization to my iPods. After this function was broken there is no longer an easy way to update my smart lists with the new tracks coming in.
    _Extra info:_
Settings "*Keep iTunes Media Folder Organized*" & "*Copy files to iTunes Media Folder when adding to Library*" are turned off. I need to manage my media folders manually.
+This iTunes issue is also logged with Serato Scratch Live Support:+
    http://serato.com/forum/discussion/340778

    turingtest2,
    *Workaround 1:*
This is not productive, I do A LOT of tags in Serato ScratchLIVE (Have about 45.000 songs in my library constantly) I will take a long time just to try to remember what songs I tagged.
    *Workaround 2:*
This is even worse, it takes even longer, and you'll most likely loose stuff like playcount, added to library tag will get screwed up etc...
    *Workaround 3:*
Id love to see a script like this, I had a look at DougScripts, but no luck yet. (I'm no programmer)
    *Basically this is my problem:*
I'm doing quite a lot of work on all of my files regulary. (at least twice a week: fridays before DJ gigs, sundays after, and a probably a few times during the week too.) In short, I go through my tracks in Serato Scratch Live, add the text "3 star" etc, to the comments field (Serato Scratch Live don't read the iTunes star ratings), fix any genre tags (got a pretty extensive systems for those) etc, then rescan in iTunes and add the iTunes star rating as well.
Then there is smart lists in iTunes (based on star ratings, added date, genre etc.) that I sync to my iPods to keep updated on the go. This makes for a VERY efficient system for organizing the top tracks, and weeding out anything I don't want. (i will also do star ratings on the iPod on the go, re-sync to iTunes and add the to the comments field)
If I had to find every track manually in iTunes after doing the "star" comment tag in Serato Scratch Live, it would defeat the purpose. I would never manage to get by. I mean, iTunes only need to check if the file itself has changed since last id-scan, then read any new tag.
Even backup programs like Carbon Copy Cloner can go through 45.000 files in a snap, and only copy the altered ones, so why should it be so hard to rescan tags in iTunes?
    To top this off:
I have loads of music ripped to my master archive (about 10.000 album cd's) So I'm always digging for tracks, rediscovering my collection. That's what DJ'ing is about I think, digging for the hidden gems. So yes, I'll never be done tagging all my songs, but at least if the rescan worked like it should, it would make my life "liveable"
After 2 month of neglect Id like to hear anyone from Apple comment on this.
Ive been using Macs for about 15 years, but this kind of thing is really disappointing.

  • ITunes "get info" respond time is slow

As a person who edits tagging info very often, the slow respond time when I click on "get info" is annoying me.
It used to respond immediately, but now I have to wait 2~3 seconds to get the "get info" window up.
I recently switched my computer from Windows Vista to Windows 8, and installed the latest version of iTunes (11.1.4.62, 64 bit version)
This slow respond time did not occur on my previous computer, so could this be a problem with my computer? Is there a way to fix it then?
I tried re-installing iTunes, but that did not solve the problem.

It doesn't look like this has been fixed -- in fact, it appears to have become worse.  Now, if I'm in an iTunes window and I pull up "Get Info" on a track, the window comes up and I can edit, but when I press the "Next" button, focus reverts back to the iTunes window, leaving the Info widow hanging there without focus.  If I want to add track numbers to a CD that was ripped without them, I have to keep clicking on the info window to restore focus after each change.
    What's the problem here, iTunes??

  • Mathscript griddata function is very slow in Labview 8.6

I'm using the griddata function in Mathscript as a direct replacement of a Matlab function we were using in the past.
I discovered a bug with griddata which was fixed in Labview 8.5. The funciton executed very well in that version.
I've upgraded the code to LV8.6, and now when executing griddata on the same data set in either 'linear' or 'cubic' mode, the function is MUCH slower than when using 'v4' or 'nearest'. All four methods had the same execution time in LV8.5.1
I have searched many topics covering issues with griddata and 'cubic', but I'm pretty sure this is a new bug.
I've attached a VI containing my data set. Running this VI in 8.5.1 and using 'linear' mode is much faster than in 8.6.
I'll be going back to Matlab, since the rest of the code has already been upgraded to 8.6 and this makes regression it unusable for my purposes.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks.

I should correct one detail in my message. The girddata bug was originally fixed for 8.5.1, not 8.5, per the following CAR: 41OHD4VQ
The attached VI should be run in 8.5.1 and then in 8.6 ('linear' method) to see the performance decrease.

  • Static VI with Visa serial functions is very slow to display front panel

THere is a delay time of about 10-20 seconds to "display" the first VI's front panel that has Visa serial functions in the source code.
All works fine after the first load but the initial delay of the front panel load makes it look like the PC could hang during this time. AFter this other VI's load immediately with no delay. I am concerned because I do not want to have to load a VI manually every time I start the APP which is the only workaround I can do at this time.
Im wondering if anyone else has seen this kind of behaviour.
I do not remember this happening until I upgraded my APP to LV7.

I would like to resurrect this thread, as I am having the same problem. The problem stems from the VISA resource control on my front panel, because I have many COM ports registered on my system. The last suggestion from Scott B. was to "post the resulting .SPY file and I'll take a look at it". So, here is my .SPY file, and as you can see, it takes far too long. As many of these COM ports were registerd from USB converters, most of them are not actually present at this time on the system. However, even the ports that ARE present take a long time to register (i.e. COM1 is present and shows 3 seconds to register). These COM ports shown in my VISA resource do not correspond to those shown in my Device Manager, nor do they correspond to those shown in MAX under Devices and Interfaces.
I am using LV 7.0 on WinXP SP2, with VISA version 3.2.
OK, I just discovered something that mostly cured the delay. When I was getting the VISA version number just now, from MAX in the Software>NI-VISA item, there is a tab "VISA Options", and another tree structure in the middle pane. Selecting "General Settings>Aliases", there was a list of the old COM ports, so I cleared this list and then re-started MAX, checked again, and now only the COM ports shown in "Devices and Interfaces" matched this list (which still doesn't match my Device Manager, but no matter). When I re-opened the LabVIEW FP, it opened quickly, and the ports listed in the VISA resource matched those I saw in MAX.
At any rate, although I just cured the symptom, the original problem of old aliases in VISA causing unacceptable delay should be fixed by NI.

With the URL of the feed one can check it in iTunes and submit it to FeedValidator as a first-line method of locating problems. It's nearly impossible to read right through a long feed's text looking for the one tiny error which may have borked it. With both URLs it's much easier to check things - including whether iTunes is using the feed the originator thinks it is (not always the case).
If you've been getting quick updates in the Store you've been lucky; the Store checks feeds in some sort of rotation and so it depends where you happen to be in the cycle when you upload a change.

  • CLEAR Function is very slow.  Remedy?

The Run Package > CLEAR function is running very slowly for segments with large number of records for clear down.
    My questions:
    1)  Is there anything I can do to prep before the CLEAR is executed to speed up processing?
    2)  Are there benchmarks available so I can determine if the performance of our system and application requires tuning/maintenance?
    CLEAR Statistics:
Instance:                 No. of Records:           Load Cube time in sec.:        Total CLEAR run time:
    1                             25                                  8                                           13 sec.
    2                             39,782                           155                                       2 min 57 sec.
    3                             371,880                         14,557                                  4 hrs 3 min and 19 sec
    4                             307,273                         10,016                                  2 hrs 49 min 07 sec
    5                             221                                7                                           13 sec
    I am most concerned about instances 3 & 4.
    Questions continue:
    3)  Can I continue to process in other areas of the application that is not in the same time period and category as the selected area for CLEAR while the long clear downs are running?
    Thank you.

    Hi Connie,
Instead of using the CLEAR try using the CLEAR FROM FACT package.
If you don't see it as an existing package in DM then you'll need to create it. There should be a Clear From Fact.dtsx in the Examples or System folder.
    Thanks,
    John

  • Can't make pdf and getting ready to print very slow

I am using ID CS4 with Windows 7.  CS4 includes Acrobat 9.  I want to create a pdf file of a business card design.  When I chose Print and pdf as the printer, there is a very long pause.  Finally a windows says "Printing" and then a message "Downloading procset."  At this point the process is frozen.  I can go to Task Manager and it shows ID not responding.  No pdf file is produced.
    What's the solution?
And while I mentioned the long pause above, that pause is very long if I want to print from my Officejet printer.  The document will print, but it seems like a much longer pause that should happen.
    Vaughn

Good question.  That's the way I've done it before, but if export is the recommended way, I'll try that.

  • SAP PLM Web UI: Document functionality working very slow or timing out

    Dear Experts,
In the SAP PLM Web UI, when we open any existing document or try to create a new document system continues to process with out any error for long time before getting timed out.
Even Descriptions tab or any other tab and attached originals do not open.
Is this got something to do with the whitelist? I havent generated any whitelists so far for this system.
We are on ECC 6.0 EHP 6 and PLMWUI SAPK-70206INPLMWUI.
    Thanks and regards,

    Hi Shashikumar,
it is quite hard to find out the reason for anybody without system access... I think the best and quickest would be for you to raise an OSS to SAP: http://service.sap.com/incident

  • Where I get info about a very good game rejected in Itunes

    Dear Iphone people,
I'm a developer and I need some information that is really unclear , I want to publish this open letter because it is correct that people know that , I don't want to disclose the title of the game because it is polite I want to just tell you that I'm submitting the applciation and this is the followup number:
    Follow-up: 67693981
I have submitted the game 3 times and for 3 times you answered on every single problem that the game have , I have fixed all the issue based on your suggestion for 3 times , i spent hours and days on the game to develop it , cost us money without people enjoy or even decide by herself if the game is good or not. The problem is not because the game was refused is because you didn't give any suggestion why you refuse this left me missing information how can i help my game to be published.
I believe that you don't give answers , you don't provide E-mail to support developers , you don't help them because my expectaction of the money return is correct and in any case you should advise us immediately that the game will be rejected even after 3 times you suggest what to fix.
I know you don't care too much about developer but i care about Iphone and Iphone user and left them to decide, I will not discole any information of the kind of game because i think this is not correct on my side why you refuse but i think it is correct that you should help me to better understand what is wrong in the applciation and correct the issue to be published. So if you believe that this is corredct to have the possibilities to adeguate my game to Itunes standard.

This is a user to user forum. No one here can help you with why your app was rejected.

  • Concatenated disc set very slow

    Hi,
I have a 4GB concatenated disk set set up with Software RAID that is very very slow copying files.
Connected to a Macmini latest generation thru a firewire 800 port.
What I get copying files is very slow transfer rate. If I look in Activity monitor I get a 6.8/7.0 MB/S.
Doesn't matter if I copy from USB drive or internal drive. Same transfer speed.
Is there a way to correct? Is it supposed to be so slow with 2TB hard drives?
Cna I split the drives without loosing all the info?
I would expect around 60 MB/S from internal and 34 MB/S from USB drive.
    Thanx

Be sure you are not having any drive problems first. Use some utility to check the access times and throughput. XBench is a good free app for that.
Be sure fragmentation is not a problem. Leaving your computer on one or two nights a week will allow it time to defrag itself.
Leopard loves to "cat-knap". Those WD drives aggravate the problem because they are slow to spin up. I've gotten used to it, I trained myself to have a little patience.
You can ease the problem in preferences > energy saver. Just uncheck the "put the hard disk(s) to sleep when possible" box and set the sleep timers accordingly or throw down some cash and get you one or two of those raptor drives.
Finally, Leo uses more memory than Tiger, be sure you have enough memory available at all times for your disk caches and your programs.

  • Disabling the 'Get Info' funct

Hello,I'm hoping someone will be able to help me. I have a Creative Zen Micro was using the organizer to upload some of my audio CDs. Anyway, I got lazy entering the information and decided it would help if I clicked 'Get Info' and registered for the CD information to automatically be sent. This turned out to be a mistake, because 99.9% of the time the information is incorrect in some way or I disagree with it (for example, the genre its classified as) and I have to go through every track, changing the details one by one - its very tiresome. I read that you must be disconnected from the internet for it to work, so whilst it made things awkward, I thought it would be quicker to disconnect, remove the cd, reinsert it and enter the information myself, but it seemed to have memorised it and now that CD information always comes up. For the life of me, I cannot figure how to turn off that 'Get Info' function but its driving me MAD. Now it takes literally ten times at long to upload a CD and it makes me so fed up with my Zen that I just dont want to use it anymore. Surely there's a way to opt out of them sending the information?!Thank you for reading.

The information will have been stored in the PC Music Library database and you can't delete it on its own.
You can go to the C:\Documents and Settings\your_user_name\Application Data\Creative\Media Database folder and delete the files there - you will get a new library created when you start MediaSouce next. Then re-import your files to the library.
Or go to Tools, Settings, PC Music Library and create a new library. Also on the Audio CD/Rip tab deselect the Automatically Download Cd Information option to switch off Get Info.
