Get parent JFrame for displaying exception msg

I have a problem.
Lots of my application components are classes that extends JPanel
In these classes lot's of different exception could be raised.
Some of them I want[b] to show to user (invalid input, no DB connection error e.t.c.)
I make may GUI with help of GUI-builder + I write own classes As I said. Then I initialize them on my form in code.
How can I reach parent form and send message to user?
Is there any common method like:
getParentForm.showMessageDialog(String mesage);
Did I explain my problem clearly...?

No, FAQ - is pretty useless thing.
I suggest this one idea:
see visualization:
http://foto.mail.ru/mail/ice_holod/114/s-494.jpg
no read my idea. I hope you will undestand me.
Excuse me for offtopic.
I suggest to develop "wisdom master.
This master will give user solution for his problem.
It will look like interactive dialog.
For example, I have a question: I want to put JComboBox into JTable.
I open wisdom master
There I see list of topics:
1.SWING/AWT
Database
Java language basics
I choose SWING.
2.The I see lest of SWING components, which were discussed million times:
JFrame
JTable
JComboBox
e.t.c.
I choose JTable.
3.Then I see list of ready solutions divided into categories:
Embed something (embed checkboxes, comboboxes e.t.c.)
Control data in JTable (add/delete row)
e.t.c.
I choose Embed something
4.Then I see description and links to several threads:
Embed combobox (several links to most valuable threads)
Embed checkbox (several links to most valuable threads)
e.t.c.
BUT!
If I would choose JComboBox instead of JTable on step #2 anyway I will get JComboBox + JTable solutions through master.
See this chain: SWING->JComboBox (I did not choose JTable)->Embed somewhere->Embed into JTable
Of course, such wisdom master will not help starters. Sometimes they even cant understand what they need and what to search (I am a starter and sometimes I do not know what exactly to read, and where to search)
But, I think such service will help users which familiar with Java technology. The y will not have to read search results and million topics.
The way to solution will be shorter.
The MAIN PROBLEMS are
1.     Separate food solutions and useful threads
2.     Develop categories. We do not have to create many categories, user can lost in these categories, we cant reduce their quantity. We have to find gold middle.
3.     Develop good graph (graph branches = search chains). Categories=nodes of Graph

  • Getting a JFrame to display  from a JSP, remaining JSP code waits for frame

    Hello,
    I'm new to Java and just started using JSPs. My objective is to call a display window (from a JSP) that shows the user a list of project selections. Once the user has made their selections and clicked a Submit button, the display class captures the selected projects to the request object as an attribute and then closes the window. The next command in the jsp then forwards the request attribute to a controller. I'm having trouble getting the display window to show-the JSP seems to hang and then timeout. Is there code I'm missing to get the JSP to stop processing while it waits for the choices to be made in the JFrame?
    Below is the JSP code and the class I'm calling. I'm seeing all my debug System.out statements but no JFrame pops up. In the JFrame class, the line f.addWindowListener(... does the capture of user selections to the request attribute.
    Any help will be greatly appreciated!!

    Hmm, I was trying to avoid writing an applet. Seems my only other option then is to write a JSP that returns a javascript menu populated by options from a database call. Then I'd have the user click submit to send the options to another JSP that simply sets the request attribute and forwards to the controller. Will this be a sound alternative?

  • Lengthy captures equals "preparing for display" delays?

    Philip Hodgetts on the fcp-l posted the following "Remember too, that the project will get more sluggish, more quickly if you do many long captures instead of many more short captures.This particularly affects "preparing for display" type problems (ie makes them worse) However that has to be balanced with the total number of clip-instances in the project. The more there are overall, the slower the project will perform."
    Can anyone here confirm this? Cookman and I have a running argument over the best workflow. He prefers logging and then just capturing selex. I prefer capturing everything and then logging (we both agree and the necessity of thorough logging). This may have some impact.
    I recently finished a dvcproHD project where each reel was captured as one file. Each file was around 25 gigs. I would often get lengthy "preparing for display" message, but this usually happened when I was switching between going between normal editing and the switching to the apple cinema display full screen preview. I rarely if ever see this message when working with DV material so I suspect that it's a function of file size rather than "length of capture."

    There is a happy medium position in the log and capture wars that is sure to please no one.
    Squarebox sells a media management program called CatDv that comes with a little capture app - live capture plus.
    LCP can be used as a stand alone capture app and will use the same info as 'start stop detect' in FCP to capture a complete tape and cut it into individual clips. If you just use LCP, your clips are named by reel number and time code. If you combine LCP with CatDV you get a great many more media capture, naming and storage options.
    The entire tape is captured to a temp file where it is parsed and written out as individual clips. The temp clip is then deleted. I suspect the time it takes to do this is processor dependent and it does hang up the system for an extra period of time if you are running this off a G4 powerbook. You also need at least 2x the file space to allow for the processing.
    It is an interesting idea in that allows the best of both worlds - full tape capture (low wear and tear on weak drive mechanisms) and small clips (fast display, simplified media organization).
    cheers,
    x

  • Sub-Menus are displaying away from their parent Menu for first time.

    Hi All,
    I have a problem with sub-menus display location. In my application, I have a JPopupMenu to which several sub-menus (*JMenu*) are added. All the JMenuItems inside JMenu are having an Icon (Image) along with menu item title. I am providing a facility to change the font size of Menu Item names as well as the ImageIcon size dynamically through a dialog box. When the size is changed to larger value than the existing, the menus as well as submenus are getting displayed correctly. But when I change the size of ImageIcon and the font to smaller value than the existing one, then the submenus are getting displayed away from their parent menu for the first time. The location of sub menu display is matching with the location when their size was larger. This problem appears only for the first display of sub menus after their sizes are changed. For the successive display, the locating is resetting automatically to correct location.
    So can anybody help me out about how to display submenus at correct location irrespective of font and image size changes for the first time also? Is there any event which gets fired when we change the font size or ImageIcon sizes? Is there any specific method to refresh the menu sizes if any of such properties (such as font size, ImageIcon size) are changed?
    If you need any additional information, feel free to ask.

    Below is the sample code for the query I placed. Steps to reproduce the problem are:
    1. Click on "Increase Font" button.
    2. Generate the popup at the right side corner of the screen (using right mouse click) such that the sub menu of edit should appear at left side of "Edit" option.
    3. Click on "Decrease Font" button.
    4. Generate the popup at the right side corner of the screen (using right mouse click) such that the sub menu of edit should appear at left side of "Edit" option.
    You will see that sub menu of edit menu is displayed away from the popup for the first time. The sub menu location matches with previous location when its font size was larger. Location resets automatically for the next successive displays.

    hello i am trying to help a friend to get the update for the mac os x maverick and msg pops up saying distribution file not verified

    Please read this whole message before doing anything.
    This procedure is a diagnostic test. It’s unlikely to solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
    The purpose of the test is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party software that loads automatically at startup or login, by a peripheral device, by a font conflict, or by corruption of the file system or of certain system caches.
    Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards, if applicable. Boot in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. Note: If FileVault is enabled on some models, or if a firmware password is set, or if the boot volume is a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.
    Safe mode is much slower to boot and run than normal, with limited graphics performance, and some things won’t work at all, including sound output and Wi-Fi on certain models. The next normal boot may also be somewhat slow.
    The login screen appears even if you usually login automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
    Test while in safe mode. Same problem? After testing, reboot as usual (i.e., not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of the test.

    My iPad hasn't been backed up and it's displaying the msg but will not let me get rid if the msg so that I can get it backed up. How do I get through this

    Try this.
    Reboot the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider if it appears on the screen - let go of the buttons. Let the iPad start up

  • I purchased the display version of my mac pro and it had the Pages app.  I just reset it to factory settings and the app is no longer on it.  Is there a way I can get it back for free?

    I purchased the display version of my Macbook Pro at a navy exchange.  The woman working at the store did not know how to reset to factory so I took it home as was.  I have been using it for about a month and the laptop had Pages and Keynote on it already.  I just reset to factory settings and it now has neither.  Is there a way to get these back for free?  I think my computer purchase makes it eligible to have these apps for free but since I reset it they are gone.

    Go to the App Store where you can purchase copies of the apps. You cannot get them for free. The ones installed belonged to the previous owner. You will need to purchase using your Apple ID.

    Exporting photos for UHDTV or Native 4K TV, what are the best settings ? (File: Quality File: Color Space, Image Sizing and resolution)   Or in other words; How can I get the smallest files but keep good quality for display on new UHDTV

    You're welcome, and thank you for the reply.
    2) Yesterday I made the subclips with the In-Out Points and Command-U, the benefit is that I've seen the clip before naming it. Now I'm using markers, it's benefit is that I can write comment and (the later) clip name at once, the drawback is that I have to view to the next shot's beginning before knowing what the shot contains.
    But now I found out that I can reconnect my clips independently to the format I converted the master clip to. I reconnected the media to the original AVI file and it worked, too! The more I work with, the more I'm sold on it... - although it doesn't seem to be able to read and use the date information within the DV AVI.
    1) Ok, I tried something similar within FCE. Just worked, but the file size still remains. Which codec settings should I use? Is the export to DV in MOV with a quality of 75% acceptable for both file size and quality? Or would be encoding as H.264 with best quality an option for archiving, knowing that I have to convert it back to DV if I (maybe) wan't to use it for editing later? Or anything else?
    Thank's in advance again,
    André

  • FM for getting the Parent materials for the component material

    Hi All,
             I need to to get a list of parent materials for a given component material and that too upto 10 levels.
    i.e.
    Ist Iteration
    The material M1 is a component in 3 other materials.
    2nd iteration
    The above 3 materials will be a components of 3 other materials each i.e. now a total of 9 materials are there.
    3rd iteration
    The above 9 materials will be a component of 3  other materials each i.e. now a total of 27 materials are there.
    upto 10 iterations.
    Is there any FM which can provide me the list of parent and superparents for a given component material..upto 10 levels (or something closer if these levels exists).
    Regards
    Abhishek

  • Getting the Parent JFrame or JDialog

    I am trying to get the parent JFrame or JDialog so I can change the cursor. Right now I am doing it in a stupid way by doing this:
    private void changeCursorQuestion(){
              JFrame frame=(JFrame) getParent().getParent().getParent().getParent().getParent().getParent().getParent();
              Cursor cursor=new Cursor(Cursor.HAND_CURSOR);
              frame.setCursor(cursor);
         }//end changeCursorQuestionBut is there an easier and of course better way of getting the frame or jdialog that a panel is in?

    I am trying to get the parent JFrame or JDialog so I can change the cursor. You can change the cursor of the JPanel ( in fact any Container) so why use that getParent() thing....
    Also, if you want to have quick refrence to JFrame object from JPanel, extend JPanel to make a new class and have a refrence to that JFrame/JDialog in that class, that way you can access it quickly.
    Thanks!

  • Display unaccountably gets too big for the screen

    This has happened maybe a dozen times, and I don't know what I did to make it happen. Suddenly, the desktop display gets too large for the screen, and I have to scroll around to find the dock or the menu bar. Whatever else I'm working on, e-mail, etc., gets outsized, too. Does anyone know how to correct this? So far, restarting has worked, but that's a pretty time-consuming way to do it.

    Cindy,
    Hold down the CNTL key and scroll down with the mouse or trackpad. That should change it back to size. This is called screen zoom.
    Cheers
    You can also deactivate it in System Preferences for the Mouse and/or trackpad.

  • How to display the Get info window for a file or folder

    Hello,
    How can I display the Get Info window for a file or folder using Applescript - instead of selecting it in the finder and using Command-I ?
    Thanks.
    lenpartico

    The item property that the Get Info was opened for is read only, so it doesn't look like you can just throw a file path at it. You could do something like telling the Finder to reveal the item, then keystroke the command, e.g.:
    <pre style="
    font-family: Monaco, 'Courier New', Courier, monospace;
    font-size: 10px;
    margin: 0px;
    padding: 5px;
    border: 1px solid #000000;
    width: 720px;
    color: #000000;
    background-color: #FFEE80;
    overflow: auto;"
    title="this text can be pasted into the Script Editor">
    tell application "Finder"
    reveal "Path:to:your:file"
    activate
    end tell
    tell application "System Events" to keystroke "i" using {command down}
    </pre>
    ... but this doesn't seem to be much different than the regular method. There are other methods to get various information, what are you wanting to do?
    Edit:
    Hmmm, I could have sworn (I do a lot of that these days) I tried Hiroto's method, but that does work. It still seems to be a roundabout way of doing something though.

  • "Preparing video for display" ****!! Project get's stuck before opening completely

    I've been working in this project for almost two years. Now, I'm doing the subtitles in Final cut from Spanish to English for almost two months now, almost half way through the movie so I get a lot of renders done everyday. Since last Week my projects get stuck at "Preparing video for display". I usually go to the Autosave Vault, for some reason one of the project open, and I start working again from the hour or two of work I lost. But, whenever the projects get's to Autorender, the same message displays again, and the damned beachball appears and all goes to ****. I can't get anywork done, I've lost a lot of hours worth of work and I'm facing a deadline. I've tried trashing the preferences, but nothing. So before I drive my car into a tree i wanted to at least submit the question, to you.
    Clues:
    FCPR0 6.05
    MACBOOK PRO WITH 4GB MEMOMRY
    LION BUT RUNNING ON IT WITH SNOWLEOPARD ROSETTA.
    Best to all of you.

    My guts are saying that you've a bit of an unstable installation going on, causing the instability... the fix is to perform a clean install and try working with that. You can build a new startup disk on a firewire drive or on another internal drive or partition, leaving your current startup disk alone... safest way to test this hypothesis... I'd also not install Lion if you're going to run FCP 6. Best setup for FCP 6 is likely Leopard or Snow Leopard. In reality it can be argued that the version of FCP that you are running will run the best on the OS it was written for in the first place.  Which, for FCP 6, is likely 10.5.x.
    Here's a list of what is known to be a stable setup with every version of FCP: http://www.digitalrebellion.net/blog/posts/recommended_quicktime_and_mac_os_conf igurations_for_final_cut_pro.html
