Get the value of output text box in javascript

Hi all,
I am trying to retreving the value of output text box using getElementById('form1:outputText3') but was not able to get it.
Googled it but didnt find any way to get it on the page itself without going to backing bean
jdeveloper version 10g
Thanks in advance

Hi,
I think this is because out put text is not a component but text written to the page. So I thin you would have to parse the generated HTML for it or use a inputText field and set it to read only

  • Accessing the value of a text box input

    how do i access the value of a text box on a jsp page..
    eg:if the page name is Test.jsp and it has a text box named text.....

    You're mixing JSP and JavaScript. If you're staying within the same page, e.g. no get/post to another JSP, and you need to update values of a text field within a form, use pure JavaScript, such as:
    <form name="fred">
    <input type="text" name="USERID" size="15" onBlur="document.fred.PASS.value=document.fred.USERID.value;"><br>
    <input type="text" name="PASS" size="15"><br>
    </form>
    This will change the value of the PASS field to the same as the USERID field, which is what I think you were trying to do.
    Not to be rude, but in the interest of keeping the Java forum pure, I would look towards a JavaScipt forum if you wish to use pure JavaScript (http://freewarejava.com/cgi-bin/forumdisplay.cgi?action=topics&number=1&SUBMIT=Go)

  • I need to get the value of a text field that is located in another page JSP

    I need to get the value of a text field that is located in another page JSP. How do I do that?

    Well you see, I have a page at angelfire.com, which
    does not support JSP. I want to call a script located
    at mycgisever and then, when pressing a link on the
    former page, the JSP page is loaded, and the script
    get the value from the text field on the OTHER page.
    Is this possible?I know nothing about cgi. But that should not prevent me from understanding what can and cannot be done, assuming cgi is sort of comparable with jsps.
    I'm unable to understand your description clearly. Try to explain it better. Give precise steps that you intend to follow and I should be able to help you further.
    So you have a page1.
    You hit submit from page1.
    That goes to the cgiserver.
    From the cgiserver, programmatically load up the jsp.
    search this for the text field.
    Display it on your page2.
    Is that what you are trying to do?
    BTW, won't be able to help you with cgi scripting at all. Can help with Java and Jsp.

    In Javascript you can use the DOM to access the input element and set it's value before submitting the form. Then it's value will just be passed.

  • Getting the value of a check box - annoying error

    Hi guys,
    Ive got a web page with sets of hidden variables and check boxes which relate to different courses, but when I try and itterate through the value of the check box to see if it is checked or not im getting an outofIndexArray error because im using
    for(int i=0; i<paramValues.length;i++)
    { which relates to the number of courses which does agree with the number of check boxes, but not when they are unchecked.
    i.e. when some of the boxes are not checked then it gives this error, however when all are checked it is fine.
    How do I get it to not give this error, i.e. how do I set the value of a check box when it is not checked as on several web pages it shows how to set the value when they are checked.
    thanks

    i don't see the error, can you post some more code?
    what is paramValues?
    you iterate over the number of checkboxes?

  • How to retreive the value of a text box that is created dynamically

    hi this is ravi kiran,
    i am working on a project which requires creation of as many text boxes as the number records fetched from the database i.e, if the result set contains 3 records three text boxes must be created.
    here is the code for that
    if(rs1.next()) { %>     //rs1 is the result set object
    <tr>
    <td width="130" ><%= rs1.getString(1)%></td>
    <td width="130" ><%=rs1.getString(3) %></td>
    <td width="184" ><%= rs1.getInt(2)%></td>
    <td width="149"><input type=text size="20" ></td>
    </tr>
    %>
    here the problem is the text boxes are getting created but what ever the value that is entered in the created text boxes must be added and must be displayed in another text box.
    i am having no idea how to do this
    can any one help me
    thanx in advance.

    may be this helps u ,
    Create a counter and increment it every time when it comes to rs.next
    Set ids for the text box with the value of the counter.
    eg: textbox1 , textbox2
    the 1 and 2 shld be created by the counte just append the count value to the string and set it as id of the new text box dinamically created.
    then get the ement by id and get its value and do the process.

  • Getting the value of a combo box from a button

    Hi everyone, i wondered if anyone knew how to get a system combobox value from the item pressed event of a button.  The code below only gets the last value rather than the one currently selected.
    Case SAPbouiCOM.BoEventTypes.et_COMBO_SELECT
                        If pVal.ItemUID = "3" And SAPbouiCOM.BoEventTypes.et_COMBO_SELECT Then
                            oCombo = oForm.Items.Item("3").Specific
                            ComboBoxValue = oCombo.Selected.Value
                        End If
    If pVal.ItemUID = "ViewDocBtn" And SAPbouiCOM.BoEventTypes.et_ITEM_PRESSED Then
                            SBO_Application.MessageBox("ComboBox:" & ComboBoxValue

    Has anyone got any idea why it is pulling out the last selected combobox value rather than the current one?
    Thanks

  • Can we hide the real value of input text box and show other value in ADF?

    Hi All,
    I have a table in which i have one the column as "Quantity" and text box as "quantity" :-
    <af:column sortProperty="quantity" filterable="true"
    sortable="true" headerText="Quantity" id="c3"
    width="60"
    rendered="#{row.bindings.booleanFlag.inputValue != 'E'}"
    filterFeatures="caseInsensitive">
    <div align="center">
    *<af:inputText value="#{row.bindings.quantity.inputValue}"*
    label="#{bindings.queryProductResponseType.hints.quantity.label}"
    required="#{bindings.queryProductResponseType.hints.quantity.mandatory}"
    columns="#{bindings.queryProductResponseType.hints.quantity.displayWidth}"
    maximumLength="#{bindings.queryProductResponseType.hints.quantity.precision}"
    shortDesc="#{bindings.queryProductResponseType.hints.quantity.tooltip}"
    id="it5" partialTriggers="it19"
    readOnly="#{row.activeYN == 'N'}">
    <f:validator binding="#{row.bindings.quantity.validator}"/>
    <af:validateRegExp pattern="^[1-9]+[0-9]*$"
    messageDetailNoMatch="Quantity must be in whole number format."/>
    </af:inputText>
    </div>
    </af:column>
    Now when the user will enter say 400 in input text box "quantity" , the value should be divided in the same row to other column text box say "conversion" which holds the value as 40 , so if the division doesn't give any remainder(means remainder =0 ) means real value(400/40) = 10 then it should set the value of input text box "quantity" as 10 but the user should be able to see 400 which he/she entered before, as we want to send the 10 as request but we have to show 400 to the user and if remainder goes greater than 1 than it should show an error.
    I have to implement this in value change listener of the text box as i need to calculate the real value each time for a row.
    How should i implement this ?
    Thanks .
    Thanks.

    Thanks timo,
    But can you give me full details how should i implement this as i am newbie to ADF. I have found the data control in Data controls tab in left hand side and right click on it -> edit definition -> but it does not give me the option to add attribute , it just give me the option to edit the existing attribute. Can you explain me how to add the transient attribute and how to implement it ? Any sample code snippet ?
    Thanks.

  • How do I get the value of a comboBox item that is in a grid?

    Hi all,
    I have a data grid that has comboBoxes in two of its columns.
    What I need to do is get the values of those bombo boxes when a user highlights the row of the grid NOT when the user uses the comboBox. I understand how to pull the values out once the change handler is invoked on the comboBox, but I'm not seeing a way to get at the comboBoxes that belong to the currently highlighted gridRow.
    I'm sure it's really straight forward, but I'm just not able to find any reference on how it's done. Any help greatly appreciated.

    This code shows how you can do it if you know the dataProvider fields for the ComboBox data.

  • Getting the value from a Drop Down Box

    I'm working on a database project to keep track of our Blackberrys. The problem I'm having is entering the values for two drop down boxes. The page I'm working on enters the FirstName, LastName, Department, and Location. Department and Location have thier own Primary Keys and are foreign keys in the Person table. Departments and Locations are aligned by numbers like 1 = Ohio, 2 = Chicago. They
    don't automatically increase. The problem I'm having is entering them as a foreign key in the Person Table. I'm not sure if I use a getValue or getSelected or some other code to get the values to populate in the Person Table. I just keep getting a can't add department or location to table.
    public String newUser_action() {
    // TODO: Process the button click action. Return value is a navigation
    // case name where null will return to the same page.
    if (personDataProvider.canAppendRow()) {
    try {
    RowKey rowKey =
    personDataProvider.appendRow();
    personDataProvider.setValue(
    "DBO.PERSON.FIRSTNAME", rowKey,
    firstName.getText());
    personDataProvider.setValue(
    "DBO.PERSON.LASTNAME", rowKey,
    lastName.getText());
    personDataProvider.setValue(

    personDataProvider.commitChanges();
    info("New User " + newUser.getText() +
    " added to USER table");
    newUser.setText(null);
    } catch (Exception e) {

    from emp
    where mgr is not null
    group by mgr;10g:

    create or replace
    function concatenate(c Sys_refcursor, sep varchar2 default null) return varchar2
    as
      val varchar2(100);
      return_value varchar2(4000);
    begin
    --  open c;
      loop
      fetch c into val;
      exit when c%notfound;
      if return_value is null then
        return_value:=val;

    You mixed Java and Javascript in the expectation that they runs simultaneously.
    You are Wrong.
    You need to distinguish between the server side languages and client side languages. Java/JSP runs at the server side and produces a HTML page with other client side stuff in it like CSS and Javascript. When the HTML page is finished, it will be sent to the client and then Java/JSP stops. Once the HTML page is arrived at the client, there is no one line Java code in it, only its output/result. Do a View Source in your favourite web browser to see it. Only from that moment on, Javascript runs and/or can be invoked.
    Whenever you want to use Java variables in Javascript, you need to print them out as a Javascript variable. Whenever you want to use Javascript variables in Java, you need to invoke a request to the server and pass them as parameters. The request can be either synchronous (a link or a form submit) or asynchronous (ajaxical).

  • All I want to do is get the value associated..

    All I want to do is get the value associated with a dropdown item...
    1. I have a combo box
    2. It has text values that you can click
    3. The text values have export values associated with it
    4. When I click a text value from the list, I want to get the numeric value associated with it
    Example combo box:
    "Orange" has the export value of "1234"
    When I click "orange" I want to get the export value "1234" and alert it to the screen
    I'm using javascript, here's what I have so far:
    In the combo box properties I have the following validation script:
    theFruitClicked();
    I have a function in the document javascript:
    function theFruitClicked()
         app.alert(event.value);
    This is alerting the text value not the export value.
    What else should I do to get the export value?
    Thank You.

  • How to get the value from select tag

    I am trying to do the exactly same thing as this select Demo does. I can not find out a way to get the value form the first select menu and use it to get all the values to form the second select menu.
    here is the web: http://www.4al.pl/phpAjaxTags/ . I am trying to do the same thing as the first demo shows!
    Here is part of my code:
            <!-->create the database connection <-->
            <%
            //Load the MySql Driver.
              Class.forName("com.mysql.jdbc.Driver");
              String url = "jdbc:mysql://localhost:3306/JunkDB";
              java.sql.Connection con = java.sql.DriverManager.getConnection(url, "", "");
              java.sql.ResultSet rsMake = con.createStatement().executeQuery("SELECT DISTINCT make FROM make_and_model ORDER BY make");
              String strMake= "";%>
            <!--Display the make list-->
            <html:select property="make" value="make" size="1" name="make">
            <html:option value="---Select a Make ----"></html:option>
            <%while (rsMake.next()) {
              strMake = rsMake.getString("make");
              System.out.println("\tmake= " + strMake );%>
            <html:option value="<%=strMake.toString()%>"></html:option>
            <%} //end while loop
            //<!--Display the model list-->%>
            </html:select>
            <html:select property="model" value="model" size="1" name="model">
            <html:option value="---Select a model ----"></html:option>
            <%java.sql.ResultSet rsModel = con.createStatement().executeQuery("SELECT model FROM make_and_model WHERE make='" + strMake //I want to put the value of the MAkE over here so I can get the models form database+ "' ORDER BY model");%>
            <%while (rsModel.next()) {
              String strModel = rsModel.getString("model");
              System.out.println("\tmodel= " + strModel );%>
              <html:option value="<%=strModel.toString()%>"></html:option>
            <%} //end while loop
            con.close();
            System.out.println("connection closed");%>
            </html:select>
                <p><input id="notify" name="notify" class="notify" size="24" disabled="disabled" type="text"></p>
            <hr><br>
            </html:form>So how can I get the value of "make" so I can get all models for this kind of "make" ??
    Am I doing it right ??? Or I am going to a wrong direction ???
    Thanks for any input . I am new with JSP and struts

    Hi Sakthi,
    Yo can use the Java script for that..
    Dynamically the value will come into text box.
    Use the below script.
    <script type="text/javascript">
    function disFormItems()
    var lReturn = $v(here your select list name)
    alert(lReturn);
    document.getElementById(here your text box name).value =lReturn; }
    </script>Cheers,
    Shan
