Get windows file attribute?

Is it possible to read the Windows file attribute "Owner" (or others, for that matter)?
I'm writing a program that searches through a network folder and finds files that fit a certain criteria. When it finds it, it writes the name to an output file. I'd like to have the "Owner" in the output file, so I can easily see who the culprits are.
Thanks.

ikb,
There's an RFC on it (outstanding for only six bluddy years): http://bugs.sun.com/view_bug.do;jsessionid=ef75e3d144bc88fba12783a55cf?bug_id=6309963 So I wouldn't hold my breath!
On any of uncle Bill's monstrosities: You can use JNI to call the native windows API.
On an operating system: You can use JNI to examine the inode.
In either case I think it's best to "wrap" the API calls in C/++ library which exposes the most granular possible interface to your java application(s)... thus reducing the amount/complexity of platform specific code in your java application... and pushing the bulk of the implementation realities into an environment which is equipped to deal with platform specifics...
If you require (and it sounds like you do) bulk file system information I'm imagineering a FileSystemIterator: which would do a breadth-first recursive directory descent... It's next method would return an INode object... because the unix file system is more feature rich, so it'd be easier to stuff winblows files into an INode's than it would unix files into a winblow structure. You might also have a DirectoryIterator which iterates the INode's in a given directory.
Your C/++ libary(s) won't ever be platform portable... they will have there hands full being "version portable"... and that's really all that is required.
Just an idea...
Cheers. Keith

  • Windows file attributes not preserved

    Hi,
When Windows(XP) clients connect to file shares (from a 10.4.7 server) and open the Properties dialog for a file, they are able to set the various Attributes (Read-only, Hidden, Archive).
However, on re-opening the Properties dialog, they find that the attribute settings they have made have not been preserved. (ie. All attributes checkboxes are unchecked.)
Does anybody know if there are any settings I need to change on the server to enable support for Windows file attributes?
    Thanks in advance,
    Rob.

  • Windows File Attributes in ZIP file

Is there a way to transfer the file and folder attributes when zipping them using the Add to ZIP function in LabVIEW?  I have a directory with some hidden and some read only files, but it looks like the zip function in LabVIEW ignores these.  I can see why they wouldn't have an input for that for cross platform compatibility, but the build should at least take a look at the existing attributes and use those if in the Windows OS.
Is there any other zip utilities written for LabVIEW that could accomplish what I need to do?
I'm using 8.5 right now, but checked it in 2009 with same results.
    Thanks!

  • QT can't import mpg (windows-file)  Error-2048

    Hello everybody,
as I'm brandnew to the MAC community I have my first problem which i thought would be the easiest to go. All my old mpg of the Windows-world are not importable to IMovie or any other programm.
I wanted all to convert them and burn them with my new Laptop but it seems not possible. errormessage is
file cannot be "imported" with QT due to 2048.
Is there anything I'm doing wrong or is there a workaround because I will still get windows files from the DVD-harddrive.
    Any help is welcome

    Hi Thomas:
    Welcome to discussions!
iMovie does not work with muxed MPEG-1 and MPEG-2 clips (and that's what you're trying to do)

    You'll need:
MPEG Streamclip 1.5.1 (free) and the MPEG-2 Playback Component ($20 from Apple).

  • FCP 6 to FCP 7 FILE ATTRIBUTE MISMATCH

I'm working on a project with a friend who has Final Cut Pro 6 and we took the project and media files from his computer, put it on a drive and put them onto my computer which has Final Cut Pro 7. Everything works, HOWEVER I get a "File Attribute Mismatch" stating that the attributes differ from the original *Media Start and End*. Do we have to do something else when taking them off of his computer or do I need to change my timeline settings to match his or something? I'm not really sure. Thanks.

Use Media Manager (in FCP's File menu) to copy the project and media to a single folder.
Test the project thoroughly before moving it to the FCP 7 machine.
As what already you have is a copy, there will be no harm done in simply dismissing the "Media start.." message. Might be that the project works fine anyway.

  • Question about Windows File Explorer and offline attribute display

In previous releases of Windows (including Windows 8), Windows File Explorer would display a small "x" icon if the offline file attribute was set.  In Windows 8.1, Windows File Explorer no longer displays the "x" icon if the offline
file attribute is set.  Is there a reason this behavior was changed?  Is there an option to get the old behavior of displaying the "x" icon?

    Hello Ed Winn,
What ‘x’ icon do you mean?
Please share us the screenshots to compare.
Based on my test, I can’t find the ‘x’ icon in the offline folder both in Windows 7 and Windows 8.1.
    Best regards,

  • HT201210 I installed latest iTunes software on my Windows 7 PC, and now I keep getting error messages. Mainly one stating that MSVCR80.dll is missing. Where do I get this file from?

I installed the latest iTunes software on my Dell Windows 7 PC. Durring installation, when it got to the "Starting Services" part, I got an error message:
    iTunes
Service 'Apple Mobile Device' (Apple Mobile Devices) failed to start. Verify that you have sufficient priveleges to start system services.
    Abort    Retry   Ignore
    "Ignore" was highlighted.
I tried "Retry" but same message kept coming up, so I tried "Ignore"
Install completed. But when I tried to start iTunes, I got message:
    "iTunes.exe
The program can't start because MSVCR80.dll is missing from your computer. Try reinstalling the program to fix this problem."
    Followed by the message:
"iTunes was not installed correctly. Please reinstall iTunes. Error 7 (Windows error 126)."
I have tried the install procedure (after uninstalling iTunes) several times with the same results. Where do I get the file MSVCR80.dll? How do I get past this?

  • Error: 2330. Error getting file attributes: C:\Program Files (x86)\adobe\reader 9.0\reader\amt. GetL

    Hi!
I got this error while trying to uninstall my Adobe Reader MUI 9.5.4.: "Error: 2330. Error getting file attributes: C:\Program Files (x86)\adobe\reader 9.0\reader\amt. GetLastError: 117". The message pops after a long long while.
I have to remove my Adobe Reader because whenever I try to open a pdf I get the error: "Adobe failed to load it's core DLL" (something like that). I want to remove and re-install adobe reader.
I ran TDSSKiller and nothing was found abnormal.
I checked the registry and everything seems fine.
I tried to repair/change the current Adobe Reader version and nothing happens.
I tried to install a newer version of Adobe reader but the installer freezes at 96%.
I'm using Win7. Can anyone help? Thanks!

The same with email messages ,

    Anybody with a good suggestion?

Do not use MS Word for Mac, it does not support Arabic.  Instead use Mellel, TextEdit, Nisus Writer or OpenOffice.  Try the font Geeza Pro if others do not work.
What are you using to read email?
What are you using to read powerpoint?

  • How do I get images from LR to windows file when it is saying they are offline or missing?

I loaded pictures to LR where I made some changes. They were jpegs. I deleted some in LR that went to recycle bin. Originals were in a windows file 2009-11-08. Since I did not see the LR changes in the windows pictures I decided to transfer LR images to the original file and opted to overwrite originals, might be a fatal mistake as it turns out, I am new to this. So now the originals are missing from the windows file but the images are still in lightroom but I cannot do anything with them other than view them in the library or slide show. I would like to put them back in the windows file for uploading to my blog and I am really hoping they are not missing as it tells me in lightroom. Can't see why they are missing if I am viewing them. Did try suggestion from support about adding parent file, then right clicking and locate can't remember exact procedure but I couldn't get it to work. I need help?? Thanks.

When exporting do not over write original files in the folder where your imported files are located. In fact I understood that LR had actually disabled this in more recent versions to prevent you doing exactly what you have done. So ensure you are running the latest version of the software (help, check for updates). over writing should only be done to folders of exported images (not those in the database). The whole point of LR is non destructive processing, that is your original files remain un changed by LR and changes are only applied to exported images.
What you need to do now is not re import but synchronise the folder. Right click (cttr click) on the affected folder in Lightroom and select synchronise folder. Check all the boxes and go ahead. This will import your exported images..as you have over written your originals unless you have backed them up then they are gone. If the are backed up, then move them into the folder using the OS file browser before synchronising.

  • How to set/get the archive file attribute?

I am programing a (freeware!) ftp client and need to know, how to set/get the archive attribute of a local file. I was searching through whole the i-net - nothing at all!
    please help me!!

    Hi,
Since not all operating systems support the archive attribute, this ain't included in the JDK.
If you're using Microsoft Foundation Classes for Java, then you can use File.getAttributes(String path) and check whether the result equals FileAttribute.ARCHIVE.
For setting the attribute, you can use
    File.setAttributes(String path, FileAttribute.ARCHIVE)
Of course this is all Microsoft-specific stuff.
    Hope this helps,
    Kurt.

    Hey Podieboy,
Thanks for the question. It sounds like you are receiving a message about missing files when you start iTunes. The following resource may provide more information:
