GetInt32 from an Oracle DataReader

Dear All.
Im hoping to re open this very old thread, I am using c# .NET and the ODP.NET provider i have defined myself some number columns with various precisions ranging from 0 <= 4 to get a Int16 returned from the oracle data reader. I have tried >= 5 and less than 10 etc to get a Int32 from the data reader.
Why is my datareader constantly returning object decimal in a visual studio watch window?
What are the in memory problems with the datareader choosing to fetch everthing in a catch all 128bit decimal representation? What are the considerations of having to Convert.ToInt32(everything) returned as decimal?
Regards
Adrian Cooke

Can anyone shed any light on this run some code and prove me wrong?

  • BO v5.1 - creating a report from an oracle stored procedure

    Post Author: newrochelle

    hi to all,
im using BO 5.1 and i need to create a document from an oracle stored procedure that have only one IN parameter and ten OUT parameters.
Creating the new report I selected the database connection then I choose the stored procedure name from the list, I inserted the value for the IN parameter and finally I click on Run button.
I got the following error message:
    ORA-06550: line 1, column 38: :PLS-00103: Encountered the symbol
    "," when expecting one of the following: : : ( - + case mod
    new not null others <an identifier> : <a double-quoted

    character set specification> : <a number> <a single-quoted SQL
    string> pipe : <an alternatively-quoted string literal with
    character set specification> : <an alternatively-q :-6550
it seems to be caused by the OUT parameters!
i leaved them without any value.
it's the first time that I used a stored procedure to create a BO report, but I think the OUT parameters are needed to do that, otherwise what data will be presented in the report???
    can you help me?
    please answear me ASAP.
    Thank's in advance

this is becoming a mejor problem for me.And are you storing it as a blob?
Oracle doesn't take varchars that big.
And isn't LONG a deprecated field type for Oracle?
    From the Oracle docs......
    http://download-west.oracle.com/docs/cd/B13789_01/server.101/b10759/sql_elements001.htm#sthref164
Oracle strongly recommends that you convert LONG RAW columns to binary LOB (BLOB) columns. LOB columns are subject to far fewer restrictions than LONG columns. See TO_LOB for more information.

  • Show the print dialog when running a report from an Oracle form.

I would like to be able to print an Oracle report from an Oracle form but

However, as soon as I run it from my form I lose this capability. Setting

  • How can i save the data from the Oracle database to my local directory

How can i save the data from the Oracle database to my local directory instead Of saving the data file to the Directory created on the Oracle Server ?
I require to design the Procedure which will pull the data from various tables and needs to store the data in the Client's local directory.

Since SQL*PLUS runs on the client, you can use SQL*PLUS to spool data to your local drive.
You could also use the database to write a a specified drive where all users have access to (mapped network drive, e.g.). I wouldn't recommend doing it that way, but it is sometimes useful when the files are created in some nightly batch run.

    Hi,
    Thanks for the reply.
Tables are already created in both of the oralce databases only the data varies. I just have to import only few records from one oracle to another with the same user name and table already existing.
I have tried using database link. I can view records from the other oracle database but as soon as i write an insert command oracle gets held. I cant do anything.
    Is there any other way?

  • Error while pulling data from an Oracle database. ORA-01858: a non-numeric character was found where a numeric was expected

I'm trying to pull data from an Oracle database using SSIS. When I try to select a few fields from the source table, it returns the following error message:
[OLE DB Source [47]] Error: SSIS Error Code DTS_E_OLEDBERROR.  An OLE DB error has occurred. Error code: 0x80040E14.
An OLE DB record is available.  Source: "OraOLEDB"  Hresult: 0x80040E14  Description: "ORA-01858: a non-numeric character was found where a numeric was expected".
An OLE DB record is available.  Source: "OraOLEDB"  Hresult: 0x80004005  Description: "ORA-01858: a non-numeric character was found where a numeric was expected".
The source columns are a combination of numeric and texts, and I've also tried selecting one of them, which didn't work. I'm using the Oracle client 11.2.0.1, and it works fine with any other data sources I have connected to so far. How can I resolve this
    error?

    Hi H.James,
According to your description, the issue is a non-numeric character was found where a numeric was expected while pulling data from an Oracle database in SSIS.
Based on the error message, the issue should be you are comparing a number column to a non-number column in a query. Such as the query below (ConfID is a number, Sdate is a date):
     where C.ConfID in (select C.Sdate
                       from Conference_C C
                       where C.Sdate < '1-July-12')
Besides, a default behavior for the Oracle OleDb Provider that change the NLS Date Format of the session to 'YYYY-MM-DD HH24:MI:SS can also cause the issue. For more details about this issue, please refer to the following blog:

  • Unable to Create Entity Model from existing oracle database

    Hi,
I am using Visual Studio 2013, .net framework 4.5, entity framework 5.0 and oracle 11g database.
Issue Description: I need to develop WCF service to exposing the account information which needs to get the data from 20 oracle tables. Trying to create entity model from existing oracle database. first i tried creating just two tables it
was created but it took more than 30 minutes. then i selected remaining few tables it took more than a days but nothing created just showing spinning the wheel. then i tried with fresh project and selected all the tables but same issue nothing created and
also there is no error. during this process i checked database query monitoring there is a big sql statement collection tables metadata. i don't know what was wrong the query taking too much time to complete the  process.
we tried multiple machine and different oracle database all are same issue.
Sql server database -looks good no issues.
Any help/tips/ideas welcome to overcome this issue.

    Hi Sakthimp,
    Welcome to MSDN forum.
Your issue is out of support range of VS General Question forum which mainly discusses the usage of Visual Studio IDE such as
WPF & SL designer, Visual Studio Guidance Automation Toolkit, Developer Documentation and Help System
    and Visual Studio Editor.
Because your issue only occurred with oracle database, moreover Oracle developed the Entity Framework for Oracle itself, I suggest that you can consult your issue on Oracle forum/community:
you will get better solution and support there.

  • Connect to MS-SQL Server from a Oracle 10g running under Solaris

    Hi,
I have the following problem. I want to access a MS-SQL server from an Oracle database (10g Enterprise licence) that is running on Solaris.
After googling a while, the following questions arise:
    - Is it correct that the Oracle Transparant Gateway for the SQL Server is not available on Solaris platforms (but only on Windows)?
    - Is it right, that the second possibility to solve this problem is to use an SQL-Server odbc driver for Solaris and access the SQL-Server over ODBC? And: Is this feature included in the Enterprise licence?
    - If yes, which driver is good and cheap ;-)?
    - Is there any other way to solve this problem?
    Thanks

I believe the Transparenet Gateway for SQL Server is available on Solaris. The problem is that you need a Unix based ODBC driver which you will also need to pay for.
We had this same problem and decided to run a windows based Heterogeneous Services gateway and routed through it instead of using the SQL Server transparent gateway. The Heterogenous severives gateway is NOT an add on product (as is Transparent Gateway). The drawback would be performance as I would expect the native MS SQL transparent gateway to perform better, but in our case it worked acceptably.

  • From an Oracle form, I want to read a text file.

From an Oracle form, I want to read a text file. In the form on a button press I have:

    WHEN no_data_found THEN
    Text_IO.Put_Line('Closing the file...');
    Text_IO.Fclose(in_file);
    END;
It gets an ORA-302000. I suspect the problem starts with the GET_FILE_NAME because when I comment out everything but that, It processes endlessly never ending.

What can you tell me? Thanks

GET_FILE_NAME will try to open an "Open File" dialog on the server, which obviously can't happen. If you want to use that type of behavior you need to use WebUtil and the function CLIENT_GET_FILE_NAME. Example:
filename := CLIENT_GET_FILE_NAME('C:\', File_Filter=> 'Text Files (*.txt)|*.txt|All Files (*.*)|*.*|', dialog_type=> OPEN_FILE);Refer to the Builder Online help for more details. You can also refer to the demo which is available here:
    http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/developer-tools/forms/downloads/index.html
    More information here:
    http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/developer-tools/forms/webutil-090641.html
Also, it appears that you are attempting to use a mapped drive ("U"). Although this can be made to work, it is not recommended and in some cases will not be supported. If you need access to remote files, you should use some other mechanism to bring the file to the local machine before manipulating it.
