Getting clients final approval

Ok the CLient hired me to do an instructional DVD video 3500 copies. I sent them a final copy for approval but the client is claiming that it won't play on their laptop, and that it skips. They wan't it to function on all computers. I tested the DVD on my desktop and set-top player and it functions fine. Any thoughts on how I can deal with this client.
I've asked the client to make sure and test a commercial store bought DVD to compare with. I wouldn't be suprised if it's not playing just because their computers are older and somewhat out of date, it's just that I don't want to step on their toes too much about the equipment their testing the DVD with. It's like biting the hand that feeds you, you know.
I don't necessarily want to make a bunch of different copies on various different DVD burners using various different media and at various different write speeds. But I might have to swallow my pride and do it anyways.
The Glass mastering company says that they won't be able to make a DVD any different or any more playable than the one I send them. CDDigital card. They don't provide any check discs. I could try somewhere else but the price is right.
I bought a DLT drive just for this project, but I'm getting different opinions even from the Glass Mastering House depending on who I talk to, about whether they make a difference or not. Any comments?
I understand that when you send in a DVD-R they pull all the info off the disc that they need. But what can they get from a DLT that they can't from a DVD-R?
The final outcome will be DVD#5.

Alanna.
Things are complex, as you are discovering!
The basic facts are that as already mentioned, written media is a lot less compatible than replicated media.
There can be issues with replicated media, but on most cases this will be down to the maker of the player - some players are cheap for a reason, and that reason is the manufacturers cut corners.
The best you can hope to achieve, if you are going to be brutally honest, is to say that the disc will work on most players, if not all.
There is a service available where a test pressing can be sent to a specialist verification company, who will run it through as many as 200 players and give you a complete compatibility report. This is not cheap though.
I have seen disclaimers on discs saying that the disc has been authored according to strict DVD specifications, and any problems should be taken up with the manufacturer of the player involved. Often a simple firmware update can solve what look like authoring issues. I don't suppose you would be very surprised to hear that a lot of end users will never update firmware at all, as they probably don't know it can be done. You can never guarantee anything as 100% idiot-proof.
Truth be told, 100% compliance cannot ever be guaranteed due to the massive amount of players available. What you can do is author to strict spec to reduce problems, and this is why some of us here keep fighting to ensure non compliant files are not accepted by Encore, as this can lead to complications later on.
See http://www.dvddemystified.com/dvdfaq.html#1.41
for a detailed explanation of the problems authors face. Summed up, not all players interpret the DVD Specifications correctly. This article is an eye-opener to put it mildly!
Replicated discs will work in 99% of players.
Written discs are a lottery.
Check Discs.
If a check disc does not work in your reference player, then the odds are high it is one of 3 problems:
1 - Bad Authoring
2 - Bad Player interpretation (A firmware update may be available)
3 - Bad replication
If you're happy sending out written media as check discs, then a useful tip is to send each format - both DVD-R as well as DVD+R. This way you have that one covered.
However, if they are testing a written disc in a computer based system, then you also have the certain possibility of bugs in the software player to contend with as well. Sadly there is no sure short-cut here, and the best you can do is try the test disc on as many players as possible. Basically, if it works well on your players, but not on some laptop running "cheapDVDplayer.exe", then you can be reasonably certain the authoring is good, but the laptop has a problem somewhere.
In short, test on as many players as you possibly can.
We have 4 set top players here - 2 Denons, one Cambridge Audio, and one of what we call our "Worst-case scenario" of a TV/DVD combo. If it plays on that, it plays on pretty much anything. It may even be worth your while deliberately hunting down a known dodgy player just to test on.
And add that disclaimer!

  • What's the WMI class name to get Client Approval status

What's the WMI class name to get Client Approval status.
Unfortunately the below example with class "SMS_R_System" does not have the approval status
    Get-WmiObject -Namespace "root\sms\site_LAB" -Class SMS_R_System | fl *
I listed all the available classes and... yeah It's going to take along time to go though all the possibilities.
Note: I'm running this in powershell on the primary first
If anyone knows it... I'd appreciate your help

This is all still in the testing phase so I'm not sure this is the best solution... but here's my problem and idea to resolve it.
Currently in our environment OSD can only be run against unknown computers and approved clients.
I currently automatically approve all clients in a trusted domain. So all systems that succeed OSD and auto join the domain are approved and I can always run OSD against those machines in the future.
Problem is with the systems that fail OSD for any reason and therefore do not automatically join the domain. They end up getting a SCCM record by the name of "Unknown" and therefore cannot run OSD again until the "Unknown" record
is deleted. "Unknown" records happen too frequently to manually delete and I'm not too comfortable with just deleting ALL of them on a scheduled basis.
Additionally there are way too many OU's in my environment to automatically join our OSD'd systems to the domain. So I have a script that checks using a prestart command to see if the system is already in AD, and if so then OSD continues and simply
joins the machine to the domain in it's current OU. If not the tech is given a nasty error message telling them to add the computer object in AD in the proper OU first.
I intend to check , with a Prestart Command if the current system already has a record in SCCM and delete it if found AND is not approved yet. This should resolve the "There are no task sequences available" error I get with
systems that have an "Unknown" SCCM record.
In this way the system will be essentially approved if the system was already prestaged in AD manually by a technician and any "unknown" record for that system will simply be deleted at the point of OSD.
Note: Although I can easily use the new SCCM Powershell cmdlettts and get the "Approved" status, I need to do all of this in WinPE without the cmdletts. If this property is not available via WMI, then I'm guessing this will not work.

  • How to get client machine name and IP address

    Hi,
In my office I have one SERVER which has FORMS & Report Server installed and all the clients are accessing that application thru the following URL :
    http://OraServer:8889/forms/frmservlet
to get the machine name I have read into a global variable like this
    SELECT USERENV('TERMINAL' ) into :global.clientname FROM DUAL;
but obviously all the time its returning the SERVER machine name...not the name where client is accessing the program....so how can I get the client machine name..
    thanks

    Hi Frank,
Well I am using Developer Suite 10g Release (10.1.2.0.2) ..I've gone thru the link what you have sent me and noticed that whatever updations of conf file or classpath its already there so i guess needn't to modify cause I think my release 10.1.2.0.2 has did already as webutils been bundled with it.
Well What i did is to double click on ATTACH LIBRARY and browse the location to find webutil.pll and finally attached it...even though its showing me all the procedures like clientinfo and others...
on my block's canvas I've put a button and used this trigger to get client info function like this.
    when-button-pressed trigger of INFOBUTTON
    DECLARE
    o_clientinfo varchar2(50) := Webutil_clientinfo.GET_HOST_NAME ;
    begin
    message(o_clientinfo);
    end;
but when I am trying to open this form its simply not showing up..strange thing is that there is no error as well...so plz kindly guide me how to get clientinfo hostname or ipaddress using that library function.
    thanks

  • OS Deployment - Failed to get client identity 80004005

    Hello all,
Hopefully someone will have a solution to this issue. I've only found one site with a similar problem (http://forums.microsoft.com/TechNet/ShowPost.aspx?PostID=2352753&SiteID=17) and the solution was to rebuild the SCCM server, which I have done. Yet the issue persists. After working my way through countless issues with SCCM, this seems to be the only obstacle in my way. Here is the situation:
    1. I boot the bare metal client system to PXE and the boot image loads
    2. The SCCM status messages appear "Windows is starting up..." and then "Preparing Network Connections..."
    3. The client machine hangs for a minute or so, then reboots.
I have enabled the command prompt shell in the boot image and can ping the SCCM server and name resolution work fine, so I know it isn't an issue with the network drivers. Below is the log information from the client. Just as an FYI, the Server is running in "Mixed Mode", so I'm not really understanding the why the identification is an issue. As best I can understand the client is requesting information from the server at a certain point and getting a blank reply.

I'm at my wits end with this software, if I can't find a solution to this problem pretty soon, I will tell management here to can the whole idea and stick with the norton ghost setup.

i had this problem today on a virtual lab ive got setup here (windows 2008 server, with sccm 2007sp1 deploying windows server..)
i had to rewrite my task sequence as it was giving me problems - (configuring ADDS) and after going through all the steps I tried yet another pxe boot and it failed, this time with the pxe error Failed to get client identity 80004005 in the SMSTSlog
I checked this log against a know good one from earlier on the same server and indeed the time/date are processed shortly after words, however i pxe booted again and verified time/date on the virtual pc and they were absolutely correct
I tried this and that for 2 hours with no positive result, lastly i rebooted the server and lo and behold the pxe error was gone.
I agree that we need a decent troubleshooting option from Microsoft about this as the documentation appears to be whatever is here or on other forums and in a lot of cases there are no solutions
does changing a task sequence somehow reprogram the PXE setup for WDS/sccm ? I have another server (real) beside me that now wont process PXE boot requests anymore even though it was working fine !
PXE-E51: no DHCP or proxyDHCP offeres were received....
no switch just a crossover network cable between server and client, client was  successfully deployed hours before with windows server 2008 via sccm via pxe boot.....
tried all the usual, not much hair left now....
    found this site http://susanaguedes.spaces.live.com/Blog/cns!830A1768E1B27E94!350.entry
PXE-E51: No DHCP or proxyDHCP offers were received
The PC cannot contact the DHCP server. Possible causes (see ref [19]):
There is a problem with the DHCP server
The network card or PXE boot portion of the network card is faulty
    The network cable is faulty
tested the client PXE boot to another server, worked fine using same network card and cable
the DHCP server on the server reports no problems and has worked fine since I set it up some months ago, indeed if i boot the client into windows server it will get an ip no problem from the dhcp server
so what is wrong here ? how can WDS/ SCCM pxe boot functionality turn itself on or off at will with no user intervention ???
restarted the server 3 times, no difference, restarted WDS many times, no difference, restarted DHCP server service and now I get
PXE-E55: proxyDHCP service did not reply to the request on port 4011
As slightly less common one, with various causes (see ref [19]). Usually the PC has successfully contacted the DHCP server and the PC will even report its DHCP assigned IP address along with the error, but the RIS process could not continue for some reason.
restarted the WDS service and it booted in Windows PE via pxe finally after hours of repetive tasks, only to bring me back to square one with the Windows PE rebooting itself immediatly after loading network support,
    ok, back to troubleshooting....

  • How quickly to get a podcast approved?

What kind of time frame does it take to get a podcast approved? Is it hours, days, weeks, etc... It is my first podcast and the client it hoping to have it out there within 3 days and I would like to let him know if that is even reasonable.
    Thanks

If it's an audio podcast then you can eithet stop it (via the pause) control in the iPod app, or you can use the audio controls on the taskar : double-click the home button; slide from the left; and there should be rewind, play/pause, and forward icons.

Okay, if the $PROFILES$ reference has been working for a long time that doesn't sound like a problem. I would then suggest this is an unusual data scenario where the value the user selected was temporarily available. Don't ask me how - it's your data! The user that submitted it might be able to shed some light. For example, this kind of thing might do it:
    1) Manager logs on to ESS, starts an SIT transaction (the one in question) and Saves for Later. This sets $PROFILES$.PER_PERSON_ID to themself.
    2) Manager then switches to MSS and views one of their employees - this sets $PROFILES$.PER_PERSON_ID to their employee, not themselves.
    3) Manager then navigates to Homepage and continues the Saved for Later transaction from the Worklist (ie, without clicking on the ESS responsibility). Perhaps $PROFILES$.PER_PERSON_ID is still set to their direct report rather than themselves?
    4) Manager then selects one of their employees contracts rather than their own (because of $PROFILES$.PER_PERSON_ID being wrong).
    5) Manager submits the transaction.
I don't know if that's possible or even if that's how it behaves. But it sounds plausible and is an example of perhaps the weird set of circumstances that might have happened here. Regardless, I'd still maintain that this value was available to the user in the Value Set at the time they submitted it.
If it's just a one-off data problem and this has been working fine for a while I wouldn't worry about it. Bin the workflow, get the employee to re-submit. Job done.

  • How can I get Apple to approve an app created by a third party?

I was trying to install an app provided by Headwaters Economics (http://headwaterseconomics.org/tools/eps-hdt/download-eps-hdt-application). When I click the install button, however, my OS gives a message saying "'install.app' can’t be opened because it is from an unidentified developer.:" The software in question is an add-on for Microsoft Excel, and it is crucial for acquiring data I use in research. The software is recommended by staff at the Bureau of Land Management. They have been working with me for a while on acquiring data. They suggest, and the online documentation at Headwaters Economics confirms, that this add-on app will fulfill my research needs. How do I get Apple to approve this app for installation.

There is no Apple approval process for this. Headwaters Economics needs to fork over the $99 to get a Developer ID so that people who install their software can be assured it came from them and isn't some malware masquerading as them. Until that happens, you will have to right click (or command click) and choose "Open" to get past the Gatekeeper.

    regards,

    Khaja,
    1. There is no separate IDOC for final approval of a PO. IF you have configured a release stratgey for a PO, the PO IDOC will be transmitted only upon the final apporval of the PO.
    2. Yes there should be a IDOC for Goods Receipt.

If you paid your last invoice (pay in advance) from December 12, 2013 through January 11, 2014 there should be no further invoice due. However if you had any overages, early termination fees owed they should be mailed to you.
You ported out way before your bill end date so you should be OK.
