Getting estimated execution time via JDBC

Hi,
I have a web application that's meant to query by multiple search criteria, so queries can quickly become too complex. I know that using Resource Manager it is possible to prevent certain queries from running, based on estimated execution time.
Is there any way to query these time estimates, making them available to the calling application? (before going ahead with execution)

I am not sure if this is possible in JDBC, the best thing you can do is, get an average execution time for query and use in your application OR do a start time and end time while you are executing the scripts and get the difference.

  • How to get the execution time of a Discoverer Report from qpp_stats table

    Hello
    by reading some threads on this forum I became aware of the information stored in eul5_qpp_stats table. I would like to know if I can use this table to determine the execution time of a worksheet. In particular it looks like the field qs_act_elap_time stores the actual elapsed time of each execution of specific worksheet: am I correct? If so, how is this value computed? What's the unit of measure? I assume it's seconds, but then I've seen that sometimes I get numbers with decimals.
    For example I ran a worksheet and it took more than an hour to run, and the value I get in the qs_act_elap_time column is 2218.313.
    Assuming the unit of measure was seconds than it would mean approx 37 mins. Is that the actual execution time of the query on the database? I guess the actual execution time on my Discoverer client was longer since some calculations were performed at the client level and not on the database.
    I would really appreciate if you could shed some light on this topic.

  • How to get the execution time of a query

    Environment: 10.2.0.4.0
    Just wondering how I can get the query execution time? I am not interested in the query output nor do I want the statistics, just the execution time?

    If you're using SQL*Plus
    SQL> set autotrace traceonly
    SQL> set timing on
    SQL> <<your query here>>SQL*Plus will fetch all the data and then report the query plan, execution statistics, and elapsed time. It will not display the actual data.
    SET TIMING ON alone tells SQL*Plus to display the execution time of each SQL statement-- the problem is that it also displays all the data which can skew the results because you're including the time required by SQL*Plus to pipe a bunch of data to the screen.

  • Stop and Pause Buttons and Estimated Execution Time

    I have more or less completed my programme (as attached).
    I am just left with two doubts - first: is it possible to let the user know the estimated time to finish executing the entire code/ running the entire experiment on my devices?
    I am currently trying to calculate this estimated time by using the arithmetic functions and time stamp. I tried putting on both the left and right sides of my case structure but it never runs - I tired running the code and after all other commands are executed, the estimated time is still not displayed. I suspect that even if the estimated time is displayed, it would only be displayed after all other commands are executed.
    I have tried looking up on timed structures but they don't seem to fit the job.
    Do you have any advice on this?
    Second: While loops could only be stopped (by pressing my 'STOP' button/Boolean that is linked to the loop condition) only after the first execution of the loop. How could I let my user stop the execution of code during the first run of the loop or should I wire my code differently using another structure?
    As for the 'Pause' button to pause the VI, I have read about the 'Wait for' function (http://zone.ni.com/reference/en-XX/help/371361H-01/glang/wait_for_front_panel_act/). I am not sure if this is the right function I am looking for and if this function enables the user to 'un-pause'/toggle the switch and enable the execution of the subsequent commands.
    This function seems useful but it does not solve the problem of the while loop having to execute at least once before I terminate it and it seems like this function acts like a 'Stop' function that exits the loop, terminating all commands instead of pausing the VI.
    What is your advice on this?

  • How to get the query execution time

    Hi,
    I am new to oracle and I am trying to get the execution time of a query.I tried the command set timing on and executed the query.But,the time it gives me is including the display of results.In my case,I ran a query against 50 million records and it is taking around 5 hours to display all the results.I like to know,how much time it take just to execute the query?Please help.

    Question Is --
       I would like to display the job status from yesterday and from time 20:00 onwards.. ie. it should display the job_SEQ 1354. ( start_time >= (sysdate-1)||'20:00:00') and  also want to disaply previous days execution time for same job (ie. for 9th Sep).
    The result should be --   Job_name PREV_START_TIME, PREV_END_TIME, TODAYS_START_TIME, TODAYS_END_TIME, STATUS
      As I am displaying the jobs from yesterday 20:00 hour onwards.. I am unable to get previous execution time for the same job.
    I tried with Analylitical function LAG  but it's showing PREV_START_TIME.and PREV_END_TIME as BLANK.
    Could you please help me to resolve the issue?

    Oracle however provides the developer with the means to create long operations (using PL/SQL). You need to know and do the following:
    a) need to know how many units of work to do (e.g. how many fetches/loop iterations/rows your code will process)
    b) need to know how many units of work thus far done
    c) use the DBMS_APPLICATION_INFO package to create a long operation and continually update the operation with the number of work units thus far done
    It is pretty easy to implement this in PL/SQL processing code (assuming requirements a and b can be met) - and provide long operation stats and estimated completion time for the DBA/operators/users of the database, waiting on your process to complete.

    Explain plan won't give execution time of a query because:
    - it does not execute the query
    - it only evaluates the execution plan and gives estimated costs
    I dont't know if it is possible to deduce execution time from estimated cost.

    The procedure that invokes the child procedure is effectively dormant while the child runs.
    Plus there is no easy way to know when 5 seconds has elapsed.

  • Execution time is too high.

    I got several xsql-files that uses aprox. 1 minute to execute by them selves. I want to run one xsql that includes them all, but it times out, and I get an server-error. Is there any way I can get the execution time down, or change the timeout-setting?

    If Oracle8i JServer is included in the Oracle 8i package, then yes. The database itself is not large (aprox. 50Mb with data), but the results of the queries can get somewhat large. Here is an example:

  • Oracle NoSQL YCSB - continuously increasing execution time

    Greetings,
    currently I am testing several nosql databases using YCSB. I am new to that type of databases, but I have already tested few of them. I am using VM with 2GB RAM and hosted on Win 7. Even though it is not recommended, since I am working in now capacity environment, I am using KVlite. But my problem is confusing and I can not find the reason. So, I have successfully loaded data and tested Oracle NoSQL using different workloads. However, with each execution, I get higher execution time. For example, if at 1st execution I get 20 seconds, if I shut database down and next day execute same workload again, I get 35 second execution time and so on.
    Do you have any idea of what may be causing that? Like I said, I have been researching some nosql databases but I have never had that strange results.

    To add to Robert's comment, the NoSQL DB documentation on KVLite states the following:
         KVLite is a simplified version of Oracle NoSQL Database. It provides a single-node store
         that is not replicated. It runs in a single process without requiring any administrative interface.
         You configure, start, and stop KVLite using a command line interface.
         KVLite is intended for use by application developers who need to unit test their Oracle NoSQL
         Database application. It is not intended for production deployment, or for performance measurements.
    Per the documentation, you can use KVLite to test out the API calls in your performance benchmarking application, but you should not use to it perform the actual performance testing. For performance testing, please install and use the Oracle NoSQL Database server.

  • Feature request: Add current execution time to queries

    When you run a query in Toad you are notified about how long a query has been currently running for. However in SQL Developer you just get the bar moving back and forth until it completes and only then you get the execution time. It would be nice to have realtime notification about query execution time.

    in 4EA2, I do see  'All Rows Fetched: 60 in 0.198 seconds' above the column headers in the results grid. Is that what you were looking for?

  • Process and thread execution time

    HI all
    I am doing a project to develop a high level simulation framework. In the project I need to calculate the number of cycles of a snippet of code in a thread. Like
    void func()
    event1():
    int x;
    x = x * x;
    for();
    while();
    exec(numberofcyles)
    event2();
    Here I want to calculate the number of cycles between event1 and event2 and pass these number of cycles to the exec(numberofcycles) which will later on be simulated. I investigated a number of tools like gprof, Dtrace, linux process statistics, rdstc, getrusage(). None of these seems to be very relevent.
    I tried linux process statistics i.e. /proc/<pid>/task/<tid>/stat. I can access the execution time of threads, but all the time I get 0 execution time. What I think that it reads the execution time of threads when it was started. Is there any way to get the updated execution time of thread?
    Any help will be highly appreciated.
