Getting html page in servlet

Hey
I'm trying to get a html page to appear when i run my servlet. I've done it by copying the whole html page into the servlet and geting it to print it out on screen. I was wondering if anyone knew of an easier or better way of doing this. Is there some way of directing the servlet to a particular html page or something like that?
Thanks

You could also use jsp, which provides you with JAVA functionality, however, omitting the printing. Here's an example:
<%@ page contentType="text/html; charset=ISO-8859-5" %>
<%
     String name = request.getParameter("name");
%>
<html>
<header>
</header>
<body>
<p><%=name %></p>
</body>
</html>

  • Get HTML source from servlet or strut action

    Hi, need ur help
    I would like to get the HTML source code after calling a URL, for example,
    Suppose a servlet will return a page hello.html, i would like to grap this HTML page source code in my servlet or strut action.
    How can i achieve this?
    Thanks

    This question does not make sense, because the Servlet is the thing that generates the HTML in the first place.
    If you want to view the HTML source of a given web page. Go to 'View'->'Source' in Internet Explorer.

  • How to set a value to an  existing element in  html page using servlets

    i have created a session in my login page and i know how to retrieve it now the actual problem is i want to set the same value to a textbox in an html page........

    Use JSTL and/or EL.
    Assuming that you mean with "created a session" that you've created a bean and have set it as an attribute of the HttpSession, e.g.httpSession.setAttribute("someBean", someBean);then do for example using the JSTL c:out tag:<p><c:out value="${someBean.someProperty}" /></p>or, if you're using at least Servlet 2.4 API with JSP 2.0 API which allows EL in template text, then do for example:<p>${someBean.someProperty}</p>

  • How to call a html page from servlet

    i want to link a servlet to a html page, if i use requestdispatcher, it says XXX.html is not available, can anybody help

    Can you be more specific about what you're trying to do? Can't read your mind =). But if you mean you want to just have an static HTML page such as a header read by the servlet you can you the requestdispatcher include().
    Create a servlet to generate a page, and then map it as /getPage in the web.xml file. Then you can use:
    // header
    RequestDispatcher rd = ...getRequestDispatcher("/getPage");
    rs.include(req, res);
    // the rest of the servlet output
    // and you can do another one for the footer down here
    rd = ...getRequestDispatcher("/getPageFooter");
    rs.include(req, res);
    and it'll output the HTML in the servlet.
    Hope this helps

  • Setting fields on html page from servlet

    I have a HTML Page1 on ServerA that calls a servlet on ServerB. I want the servlet to load Page2 on ServerA and set fields on Page2.
    I know I can do so by using Redirect and passing parameters in the URL that can be loaded in the onLoad event of Page2 but I was wondering if there is some way I can cause the servlet to set the fields directly.
    I have looked a getRequestDispatcher("url").forward but it seems to me that the page being called would have to be on ServerB (the servlet's server). Am I correct? If not how do I get this to work? I have tried getRequestDispatcher("Page2").forward() and getRequestDispatcher("/Page2").forward() but neither seem to work. I assume because the pages are expected to be found on the servlet's server?

    thank you!
    I do put a bounch of System.out.println statements in it. one is just before the out.println("<html>") statement. another is before response.sendRedirect(). My program can print out each of the System.out.println(). but stop after that.I really do not know why!

  • Try to add on but get html page and no download

    i do not know which add on i have that when now i want to add on other add ons a page of dialouge html i think comes up and no download. i sure have to hate to uninstall each one to figure out the problem
    thanks

    Thanks, fixed it shortly after posting the question (up all night fixing the crash; answer came to me while in the shower).
    What I had to do was delete both the Metadata folder within the address book-related  Cache folder in Library, as well as the Address Book folder within the Application Support folder, which happens to be found in another "Library." I then transferred the corresponding files from the previous system (which had been set aside during the reinstallation process), reinstalled Address Book, voila, there were my contacts!
    It's confusing to have two identically named file folders so close together within the hierarchy, but I guess there is a valid reason for that.

  • Calling HTML file from servlet and vice versa...

    i have got few questions..
    1- if a site is made in HTML then what should be used to put user login functionality in it, servlets or jsp or other option(specify)?
    2- im trying to do with servlets, so when im calling doPost method from HTML page and sending data, everything working fine but because of this the page refreshes and the HTML coding get lost, so how can i stop that from happening if possible, like showing the same page with messege = "Logged in".
    3- how can i call an HTML page from servlet?
    4- how can i send data from servlet to HTML page?

    that i m aware of, but when a servlet is called then the page will refresh n it will display the things that you have mentioned in the servlet file n not the things that u have mentioned in HTML file, n the page will be blank if u have not mentioned any HTML coding in servlet file.
    so i need to knw how to call back that prev HTML file so that the things i want to display can be displayed, i knw the same can be done by adding the HTML code in servlet file but i would like to know if there is any way to call back the HTML file.

  • Write HTML to Proper Page - Always writes to page - where servlet called

    I call a servlet from a second window(thirdWin) that was created/opened by the first window(window) in HTML. The servlet writes out HTML to the browser using the following code(note HTML$ is a java class that contains methods of HTML code lines):
    PrintWriter out=response.getWriter();
    HTML$.pageBegin();
    HTML$.tableHeader("Murph");
    The problem is that the servlet writes/ outputs the HTML code to the third window(thirdWin). I want to call the servlet from the third window and write/output the new HTML to the first window. There must be a way of accomplishing this. One, by setting the browser window directory to the original window(first window) before the servlet is called so that the new HTML gets written to that page, or two, by setting the brower window to the proper window in the servlet before writing the HTML out to the window.
    The following is the code in the servlet that opens the thirdWin. It is a javascript function whose body is a Servlet that has been written it out to the browser page. Do not get confused with me calling it the thirdWin it is acually a second window opened by the opener, I have just called it thirdWin.
    out.println("thirdWin = open('', 'UserName', 'height=300, width=500 scrollbars=yes');");
         out.println("thirdWin.document.write(\"<TITLE>Enter UserName</TITLE>\");");
    out.println("thirdWin.document.write(\"<BODY BGCOLOR=white>\");");
    out.println("thirdWin.document.write(\"<FORM name='showEdit' method='post' action='showEditProfile'>\");");
    out.println("thirdWin.document.write(\"<table><tr><td width=120>User Name :</td><td width=300><input type='text' class='listRow' name='user_name'></td></tr></table>\");");
    out.println("thirdWin.document.write(\"<table><tr><td width=120>Password :</td><td width=300><input type='text' class='listRow' name='user_name'></td></tr></table>\");");
    out.println("thirdWin.document.write(\"<table><tr><td width=120>Search :</td><td width=300><input type='submit' name='showEdit' value='Show Profile'/></td></tr></table>\");");
    /**out.println("thirdWin.document.write(\"<table><input id =\"subfds\" type=\"button\" name=\"Submit5\" value=\"Enter Information\" onclick=\"\"/></table>\");");**/
    out.println("thirdWin.document.write(\"</FORM>\");");
    out.println("thirdWin.document.write(\"</BODY>\");");
    out.println("thirdWin.document.write(\"</HTML>\");");
         out.println("thirdWin.document.close()");

    Since you want your function to write directly onto the page,
    the only way would be to pass the "out" variable to your function
    So your function would be

    jspout.println( "</tr>" );
    jspout.println( "</table>" );
    // Dbut de la Fin de page Normale
    jspout.println( "</body>" );
    jspout.println( "</head>" );

  • Calling a servlet in a HTML page

    hi evryone,
    I'm new to servlets so i'm trying to create some simple applications to understand how it all works. The thing i'm trying to do is calling a servlet in a HTML page. I've already installed a Tomcat web server and I've created a servlet called Hello.
    public class Hello extends HttpServlet{
         public void doGet(HttpServletRequest req, HttpServletResponse res) throws ServletException, IOException{
              res.setContentType("text/html");
              PrintWriter out = res.getWriter();
              String name = req.getParameter("name");
              out.println("<HTML>");
              out.println("<HEAD><TITLE>Hello, " + name + "</TITLE></HEAD>" );
              out.println("<BODY>");
              out.println("Hello, " + name);
              out.println("</BODY></HTML>");
         public String getServletInfo(){
              return "testing servlet OK";
    }In my HTML page I've written the follwing code:
    <HTML>
    <HEAD>
    <TITLE>Just say hello</TITLE>
    </HEAD>
    <BODY>
    <FORM METHOD=POST ACTION="../servlet/Hello">
    What's your name?
    <INPUT TYPE=TEXT NAME="name"><P>
    <INPUT TYPE=SUBMIT>
    </FORM>
    </BODY>
    </HTML>After running this HTML I get a text box and I thing I'm trying to do is, when I click on the button, the servlet will be loaded. However, the servlet can't be found and instead I get an error:
    type Status report
    message /servlet/Hello
    description The requested resource (/servlet/Hello) is not available.
    I suppose both file are in their approriate directories, but my class file still has the class extension. Do I need to change this? I hope that someone can help me.
    Thanks in advance!

    hi,
    the servlet wasn't in a package, so I changed that. It seems that I get an other error now:
    HTTP Status 503 - Servlet servlet/Hello is currently unavailable
    type Status report
    message Servlet servlet/Hello is currently unavailable
    description The requested service (Servlet servlet/Hello is currently unavailable) is not currently available.
    I still don't know what I may have forgotten, so i'm gonna resume what i have done till now.
    the servlet: (Hello.class)

              out.println("<BODY>");
              out.println("Hello, " + name);
              out.println("</BODY></HTML>");
         public String getServletInfo(){
              return "test servlet OK.";

  • Servlet to call html page

    how would you publish html pages on the web. so far the html page that comes up is accessed from my hard drive ie it has H: in the URL address. can i avoid this happening?
    any help is very much appreciated.

    there is one other problem though. on the first html page there are 3 radio buttons and a submit button. depending on which radio button is selected, once the form is submitted it will take you to a particular html page.
    once submitted it goes to the servlet with the value and name of the chosen radiobutton.
    on the servlet side i have coded 'if' statements to identifiy which radio button has been chosen. from this it is to go to a sepcific page. however, from here i do i call the html page. the part of the code is below:
    if(value.equals("Lectures"))
    out.println("LECTURES");
    out.println("<HTML>");
    out.println("<HEAD><TITLE>Student's Information System</TITLE>");
    out.println("<script language=JavaScript><!--function methodRetrieve(){ document.myform.submit();}</script>");
    out.println("<script language=JavaScript><!--function methodEnterEdit(){ document.myform.submit();}</script>");
    out.println("</HEAD>");
    out.println("<BODY><FORM name=LECmyform METHOD=GET ACTION=http://brunhilde.dcs.qmul.ac.uk/~rkj1/tomcat/servlet/Lecture target=_top>");
    out.println("<H1><p ALIGN=CENTER>Lecture Attendance Records</H1>");
    out.println("Select one of the following:<BR><BR>");
    out.println("<SELECT name=subjectMenu>");
    out.println("<OPTION value=CS3>Computer Systems 3");
    out.println("<OPTION value=GUI>Graphical User Interface");
    out.println("<OPTION value=DLD>Digital Logic Design");
    out.println("<OPTION value=DRA>Decision Risk Analysis");
    out.println("</SELECT><BR><BR>");
    out.println("<INPUT TYPE=button name=theButton VALUE=Retrieve Attendance Records &gt><BR><BR>");
    out.println("<INPUT TYPE=button name=theButton VALUE=Enter/Edit Attendance Figures &gt><BR><BR>");
    out.println("</FORM></BODY></HTML>");
    this is just a rough html page but the actual page contains a lot more html and would be too silly to go about out.println it all in the servlet. is there a method that i can call from this if statement to call a html page?
    please help me if you can since i've been trying this for a while...
    thanks
