Getting my Master Slide to apply changes

Hi everyone. I'm very new at using DW and actually had our site built by someone else but I have been making the changes to each page. My problem is that although I can make changes to the individual pages, I cannot get the changes made to my master slide to apply to all the pages, thus leaving my sidebar incomplete. Can someone please let me know what the difference is in applying changes to an individual page vs the master? Thanks

Never trust the Masters drop menu. Choose SHow master slides from the View drop down and see if the masters show up in the navigator. If they do, click the FIRST master, and hit the New button. Rename this new one and delete the old one. Then do that for EACH master slide. That should put them All in the same "theme set" and they should show up in the drop down.
When you delete the master that's being used for a regular slide, it'll ask you what to replace it with, just choose your new master so you can delete the old ones.
It's a "glitch" in Keynote because of the allowance of multiple themes in a file. Each set of masters is tied to the theme set it came from, and won't show up when you click a slide made using a different theme set, even if it's all in the same file.
Hope that helps.

  • How to modify a Master Slide on a single page.

I am wondering how to modify the master slide on a particular slide.
Like in InDesign when you hold shift + ctrl you can select items from the master page and modify them on that particular page only, without making the changes to every page where that Maser page is applied.
Trying to figure out how to accomplish this simple task in Captivate 5. (Windows 7)

As far as I know that option is not avaiable.
You could duplicate your master slide, make the changes to it, then assign that new master to the individual slide.
This works if there's only one, but if you had many variations of master slides it would get unwieldy after a while and defeat the purpose of using master slides, IMO.

  • Master Slides - Need alternate solution.

I am an Apple Keynote/Aperture user who desires to create multi-image slides using a grid in which individual photos are deposited into cells like picture frames - sort of like a school yearbook layout. I have experimented with creating master slides using "Tables" and "Shapes" within Keynote, but find that they have limitations:
    1. Using shapes in Master Slides, it is extremely difficult to get equal-sized borders between images using the "align" and "distribute" functions, particularly so if the cells are different sizes. As you are aware, these functions only operate on a horizontal or vertical basis. Is there a function that would automatically align all the cells on a slide in both dimensions?
    2. With Tables, I cannot zoom or re-orient the image other than "fit" or "fill".
I would like to have a variety of various "grids" stored and available for use again and again. I am guessing that some software manufacturer makes a variety of template type grids - like the type graphic artists must use - that can be employed within the Apple system. If these do exist it would make my job a lot simpler. So my question is: On what computer user's forum should I raise this question?
Thanks for your time and I would appreciate any thoughts you might have.

    1. If I click "create a new master slide", Keynote duplicates the nearest master in the list. Is there a way to start out with a blank master?
No. As you say, creating a new master slide always just duplicates the currently selected master
    2. I dragged some images from Finder into media
placeholders in a new slide. Later when I came back to Keynote I found the images had been replaced with a grey background, outline "X" and question mark. What happened?
Keynote doesn't treat images the way it treats audio and video i.e. images are always copied into the presentation, whereas with audio and video you have a choice to simply link to them. You wouldn't see the 'broken' image holders if you, say, dropped some images into a presentation and then moved/deleted the original images in the Finder. Keynote would be using the local copies it made of the images, and would have no dependency on the originals.
The only way I could duplicate this was to actually view the package contents of the presentation and manually delete the local copies of images that Keynote had stored. When I did that to a presentation and then opened it, I did indeed see the grey boxes with question marks that you describe.
Can you describe in more detail what you did between placing the images and then "coming back to Keynote" to find that the images had broken. Was it really just a case of closing the file, and then opening it again?
    3. What is the proper way to select a master slide when creating a new slideshow slide?
I'm not sure exactly what you mean here. Are you talking about the best way to choose which master slide is applied to a new slide that you create in a presentation?
Similar to creating a new master slide, you don't really have much control over which master is used. Keynote will use the master of whichever slide you have selected when you add the new slide.
After that you can do one of 3 things to choose which master is applied to the slide:
    1. Choose one from the Masters button on the toolbar
    2. Drag a master from *Master Slide* area in the slide viewer onto the newly created slide in the Slides area
    3. In the Slide tab of the inspector, under Appearance choose a master from the list of thumbnails

  • Master & slide title or object linking?

    greetings,
i've been using keynote for a few years. i'm using keynote version 5.0.4, which is the current version. i compiled a presentation recently by copying slides from older presentations. i've made a newer master and have reassigned the master slide for the slide to be the same. however, the titles on the slides are not getting relinked to the master slide title. so changes to the master title style are not being reflected in the individual slides for most slides.
i've played with the "inspector" -> slide -> appearance to see if i can for the title to relink to the master, without success. so far the only way i've found to get the slide titles to connect to the new master is to insert a new slide and copy the slide body and presenters notes to the new slide. then i select the text in the old slide title and "paste & match style" in the new slide.
but my presentation is around 140 slides. and i don't want to have to do this to all of them to be able to globally control the style of the slide title.
i've searched some of the posts and haven't seen this addressed before. does anyone have any suggestions about how to relink the slide titles if they are no longer linked?
    thanks for any suggestions.

    ahh! i found it...
1- select the object, in this case the title
    2- right click
3- pop-up menu shows "reapply slide master to selection"
i spent about an hour yesterday fooling around this this, trying different things, and did't figure it out...
so in case someone else needs it, here it is...

  • Powerpoint Master Slide only works on first 600 slides

I have a presentation with 3600 slides in PowerPoint 2010 and I'm trying to use a master slide to change the font color and background color of all slides. I've created a master slide and have changed the background color and all the slides did change.
However when I change the font color only the first 600 slide changed there font color. I changed the font on all the different levels of slides in the slide master.

    Hi,
In PowerPoint, the Slide Master is the template for your presentation.  If you make a change to the Slide Master, it will change for your entire presentation. However, if you have already applied formatting to one of your individual slides, it
will not follow the guidelines of the Slide Master.  He had changed the layout and formatting on some of his individual slides, and then made changes to the Slide Master, thinking that the changes would be applied to the slides that he had edited
    individually.
To reapply the Slide Master formatting to several slides at once, you can select multiple slides and following the same steps from Home > Slides > Reset.
    Hope it can be helpful.

  • Unable to Set Master Slide Properties

I'm not sure how this happened, because I could do this in the past, but for some reason I cannot set properties for the master slides in my project.
I am using Captivate 7 32-bit, and when I click on a master slide I get the "Master Slide View" message and can add/remove/modify objects on the master slide.  But, for some reason, I cannot set the properties of the master slide iteself anymore.  Specifically, I am trying to re-name one of the master slides, and the properties view is the same as the last filmstrip slide that I viewed.
For example, I am editing slide 2/10 from the filmstrip.  I decide to change the master slide associated with this slide.  So, I click on the master slide tab, then select the master slide I want to edit.  The "Master Slide View" message appears, but the properties tab remains the same as the last slide I was viewing on the filmstrip.  If I select an object on the master slide (like a text box), I can modify the properties of that text box.  But, I cannot modify properties for the master slide I am working with.
Any ideas of how to re-enable the properties of the master slide?  I already restarted Captivate and my computer a couple of times.

  • Master slide and table default - Very confusing behavior

This odd behavior cost me the last two hours, so I just wanted to check with you folks if you know a work-around.
Been fiddeling with a new Theme I am building and I was just about to define the default look for a table. Generated a table in the master slides window, applied all formatting I want and I was just about to apply it as the default for this theme (or even this master slide) and POOF - as soon as Keynote finished the
    Format>Advanced>Define Image for Current Master
the table reverted back to the look of a previous version. No matter how often I truied to re-create the intended look, it always came back in this half-baked form.
Very irritating, this behavior and I am sure that there is a fix. Anybody any ideas?
    Best Regards,
    /Dirk

Ok, so I built a new master theme - same effect. The background colors and text formatting for the body of the table would not hold.
Then I placed a placeholder object into the master slide for the table, did all my formatting, applied it and voila - it carried over.
Seems that the palceholder did the trick for me.
    Thanks for your support, brian

  • Master slide color change?

I'm changing the background color of a Theme, but would like that color change to apply to all master slides. I've changed one of the master slides in the theme I chose, but don't know how to apply this same color change to all of the master slides for this theme. I shouldn't have to change each master slide, right? I should be able to apply this color change to all master slides automatically?

Select all the sides...click+shift on each slide. Or pick one slide then select all...Apple key+A. Then change your theme/master.

  • How to get "Double-click to edit" behavior in fields added to Master slides

Hi! I edited a master slide to add a box of Placeholder Text. Now the word "Text" appears whenever I make a new slide (child of the master), which is fine. But if I don't change the text on a particular slide, the word "Text" shows up there when I run the slideshow. This is different from the behavior of the Apple-defined placeholder text, where the phrase "Double-click to edit" does NOT appear when you run the slideshow.
I've searched the help files and tried various Inspector settings, but cannot seem to get this wonderful timesaving feature working for my own Master Slide fields. Is it possible?

I was just looking for a solution to this... how timely! The closest I found to being able to have an "apple-defined placeholder" is by following all your steps (editing master, making new text box), but then doing the following:
    1) select the text box
    2) go to the "Format">"Advanced" menu and select "Define as Text Placeholder."
This isn't the same, since the text will always show up on the slides (as opposed to only showing up if YOU wrote something in the box... you can delete it if you want, but its not the same as apple's default), but it does have the functionality you want. I hope this helps you!
    EDITED TO ADD:
...aaaand the age-old trick of reading the manual works again. Go to page 188 of the linked document and you'll see that there's a different way to do it. In short:
    1) Make a text box in a master slide, keep it selected.
    2) In the Inspector, go to "slide inspector" (second from right), and select the "appearance" tab.
    3) Check the checkbox next to "Define as Text Placeholder." Assign it a tag.
For me, I found that once I did this, I could delete the text inside the textbox and it wouldn't automatically be deleted. I assume that assigning it a tag has something to do with that. I still don't know how to get text to automatically show up in the textbox... that seems to be a special functionality reserved for the apple-defined boxes. Again, I hope this helps!

  • Why are animations disappearing when I change the time of the master slide?

I apologize if this is a stupid question, but I have Adobe Captivate 6, have had Captivate since it was Macromedia Captivate, and I am just stuck.  I imported a .pptx file that a colleague created, and on several pages she has animations.  I went through the .pptx and it looks and works fine.
When I import it into Captivate, the animations work fine, but I'm not able to advance each slide until a couple of seconds after it appears.  That won't fly with some of the people at my organization who prefer the clickclickclickclick method of reviewing something.  When I change the timing of the slide or the clickbox or the master slide, the animations sort of get skipped over.
    Can someone please help me?

    Sure, here you go.

  • Changing Font Colors on Master Slides

I really like Keynote compared to Powerpoint, but I am having a problem making one change to the master theme slides. I am able to change the look, font, etc. on the master slides of a theme, but I cannot figure out how to change the font color in the master slides. Which means that when I am using Portfolio, for instance, which I like, I have to change each slide's font color from gray to black, which is easier to read. I would rather do that on the master slides, but have been unsuccessful thus far.
Any help would be appreciated. it doesn't make sense that you could revise the masters in just about any way EXCEPT font color. So I must be missing something.

You change the font color on the master slide, the same way you change it on any other slide. Click view, then Show Master Slides, then select the slide and change it the way you do a regular slide.

  • How can I change the image quality of a background image on a master slide?

I can change the image quality from low to high for other images in my Captivate project, but the background image I'm using on my master slide looks pixellated. I would like to change this image to high-quality but I don't see the option in my properties panel on my master slide.
    Thanks for any help!

You cannot import AI images directly. However, when I use Illustrator drawings, I'll import them as smart object in Photoshop and then you can import the PS-layer.
The quality you set in Captivate is not for individual images, but for the slides that are published as bitmap. This means that it doesn't matter if the object is on a master slide or on a regular slide IMO
