Getting rid of verizon

Is there anyway to get out of this contract with verizon without paying an ETF? I've already put up with getting a refurbished phone when I have had the originial one less than a month, and now they are trying to send me another replacement phone. I'm tired of the random shutdowns at night causing me to wake up late because I rely on my phone for an alarm clock. I'm tired of being in the middle of a phone call or some other use of my phone and it shuts off. Im tired of the gps taking 5-10 minutes to get a signal. I'm just tired of this phone and Verizon.

Wildman, what you said is the reason I started the thread Do not let tech support replace your Thunderbolt. I am no superuser and neither are most the people how post on here so when we have a problem with our devices the first person we call is the person that sold us the equipment and when VZWs people tell us we need a replacement device who are we to argue with that? I never demanded a replacement to begin with I was only looking for answers and the answer I got was we will send you a new one. After about a month or so of VZW sending out replacement devices to " fix " the issues and the result was the same issues and after months of hearing each reps take on the issues then YES I figured out that it's not the hardware. So after I finally talked to a rep that had a Thunderbolt and she knew that a replacement wasn't going to fix it and told me the update is what stated causing some of my issues is when I demanded a NEW Thunderbolt due to VZW's poor troubleshooting and having me replace my device in the first place. Also I made the point that if I went into a store opened a box with a NEW Thunderbolt and powered it on to find the old software then at least some of my issues ( mostly the rebooting ) with Thunderbolt would be taken care of till another update came out. To me 1 NEW Thunderbolt and denying the update sounds like better business practice then 3 replacement devices and a replacement Droid Charge. I can understand having issues with a brand new product cause I work for an automobile manufacture but we could never get away with kind of service VZW provides to fix their product issues.
Karuk, Same here I didn't have any issues that I thought were a real problem for a few weeks ( that I knew of ). Just because they are sending you a replacement doesn't mean you have to keep it. My advise is to send it back! Open the box put the return label on it and give it back to fedex. You will get the same results by doing a master reset but your phone will not be hacked up by god knows who. My experience was every replacement felt poorly assembled and had more problems. If you like your Thunderbolt just hang in there and wait for an update that will make it everything you wanted. Like Wildman said the Froyo update changed the Droid X into an amazing device, I remember staying up till midnight to get that update :-D I bailed for the Charge because I was so sick to my stomach with the terrible replacements I was sent and I'm much happier now.

  • Getting rid of Verizon within the next few months.

I'm just here to join another long list of Verizon haters.
I have been a loyal customer to Verizon for the past 12 years at two locations. I have used their DSL service ever since it became available in my area - had I known it was going to stay the same for much of that time I would have made the switch a long time ago.
When I was first able to purchase the enhanced Internet package (about 2 years ago) I was receiving 3Mbps and it was comparable to cable but now 2 years later cable has speeds surpassing 50mb and I'm stuck with 1.1Mbps (it seems for the past 6 months we've been receiving 1Mbps or lower even though we have purchased the higher tier package).
Now on to telephone quality... Calls are dropping and full of static on some days while others it's dang near perfect. However, this is a land-line service and we shouldn't be experiencing this period!
To sum this up I plan on canceling my Internet and Phone service to go with Cable. I can receive a 10mb service and phone line for the same price I'm paying Verizon - heck I might even upgrade it (just 20 bucks more) and get the 50mb service.
I am also a Verizon Wireless customer and they have recently informed me that my grand-fathered data plan won't work with new devices and so I will be canceling that also and switching to the more affordable AT&T plan with better phone options/discounts as well.
I was very optimistic when I first became a Verizon customer as I thought things would always improve and at the time they were leaps and bounds ahead of Cable and other service providers. But it seems like they have forgotten about rural areas and are wanting to get everyone switched to a wireless form of internet where they can charge you an arm and a leg for each gb you use - so for those of us that like watching netflix, playing online games (in which we download a lot of them), etc will be paying them a small fortune each month. ---  Well not me.
Just my .02 and I'm sorry I feel this way but this is getting ridiculous.

I'm right behind you. For a month I've been paying for 2.5 MPS and getting .74 on good days. Despite numerous phone calls Verizon has done nothing to address the issue.

  • How do i get rid of verizon?????????????

i had 2 numers temporarily suspended later i called and had all my number disconnected payed including the suspended numbers than they reinstated the suspended numbers and sent me a bill for 161 so i called again and was told they didn't know how it happened and they have diconnected the other two phone now. then this morning my grand daughter found the old phone and called me. guess what the numbers are still active. do i have to get a lawyer or an act of congress or what to get these numbers disconnected.

        scubb52,
Right off the bat, I want to say I'm saddened to learn you want to leave us, is there anything we can do to keep you with us? Secondly, I'm sorry to hear you had problems with the bill. I understand how important it is to be billed correctly and we can definitely clarify the charges. To assist you with the disconnect details, please send me a direct message. A suspend does not terminate service and if not suspended without billing, they still generate the access and plan fee. In addition, if suspended without billing, the contract date changes according to the suspension, which may generate a fee for cancellation if still in contract.

  • "Verizon Voice" When Turning my Droid 2 on and Off - want to get rid of!

When I turn my Droid off and on the "Verizon Voice" says"Loss of service". How do I get rid of that voice without completely turning the sound off on the phone? I want it to ring, etc.

Settings>Sound. Scroll down to Roaming tone and uncheck it. That will stop the Verizon sound.

  • Cellular Data for Podcasts pop-up - how to get rid of (iOS7)

I am downloading all of my podcasts to my iPhone 4 (iOS7) through iTunes on my iMac. Before iOS7, I did this and listened to them in the Music app - it was all really straightforward. iOS7 forces me to use the Podcast app. I'm still not sure if I'd doing the sync/download from iTunes correctly as sometimes the episodes appear on the phone and sometimes they don't (and I'm the one who usually figures these things out and tells my other family members how to do it), but that's a whole different story.
Because I do not want any podcasts automatically downloaded to the phone, especially over Verizon's network, I turned off Settings -> Podcasts -> Use Cellular Data. I have also turned off Sync Subscriptions.
Whenever I am not on a WiFi network and I unlock my phone while it is in the Podcast app, I get a popup that says:
Cellular Data is Turned Off for "Podcasts"
You can turn on cellular data for this app in Settings.
And I have to "OK" it to make it disappear. It is getting annoying. I know cellular data is off. I did it on purpose.
My goal is to get rid of the popup but I've had no luck yet after tweaking a few settings. I don't know exactly what Sync Subscriptions does, but one educated guess is that as long as I have that off, no podcasts will be downloaded to the phone unless I do so via iTunes on my iMac. Is that correct, and would that allow me to turn on Use Cellular Data (to get rid of the popup)?
    Any other ideas about this?
And if someone can explain all of the different permutations of how to manage Podcasts between iTunes and an iDevice (or even when a computer isn't in the picture), I'm all ears.

None of the tips suggested above worked for me. I still had that infernal message about connecting to the internet. But I have apparently (crossing my fingers) found a solution which works for me.
In the good old days I had iOS6 on my iPhone 5 with iTunes 10. I created a Podcast playlist in iTunes and I could cheerfully listen to it on the Music app driving around Europe (I'm on a UK tariff) with no 3G or wifi.
I now use iOS7 on my iPhone 5, syncing with iTunes 11 on Mavericks. I can now listen to the same Podcast Playlist with the Podcast app, wifi and Cellular Data turned off, Cellular Data and Notifications turned on everywhere and not a trace of the warning message. All the Podcasts play in sequence with no problem. Victory?!
The problem turned out to be in the syncing with iTunes. Although the Podcasts, whether in the Playlist or not, appeared to be syncing, in fact they were not imported fully into the phone. Thus when I selected a Podcast to play, the full file wasn't actually on the phone and so it wanted to stream it.
My solution was achieved by doing the following.
    1. Create Podcast playlist in iTunes and drag some podcasts into it.
    2. Wiith phone connected to iTunes device, highlight the iPhone in the left hand column and swivel the little arrow to expand the list of contents. You can then check the actual contents of each section on the phone. Music, Movies, TV Shows, Podcasts etc.
    3. Hit iPhone in left hand column. Hit Podcasts tab at top of window. Uncheck everything in and out of sight and Apply/Sync to remove all Podcasts from phone.
    4. Hit Podcasts section of expanded iPhone contents list in left hand column. That should be empty. Similarly there should be no sign of the Podcast playlist below it.
    5. Now return to the Podcasts syncing section. Check 'Sync Podcasts'.
    6. Scroll to bottom of page to 'Include Episodes from Playlists' and check the Podcast playlist you created. Apply/Sync.
    7. Now check that the Podcasts in the playlist are in the phone by hitting the Podcast label in the expanded contents list. It should match the contents of the Playlist which should also have appeared in the list of playlists in the phone.
    8. With WiFi and Cellular Data turned off, go to Podcast app and, if you're as lucky as me, you should be able to play any of the Podcasts in the playlist without that infernal message being displayed. Displaying 1 or 2 fingers at your mobile provider is optional!

  • Can,t get rid of hdmi message, keeps popping up

My razr32 keeps coming up with an hdmi message and asking me what to do.took it to verizon store and they said phone is no good, might be a virus.ican't get rid of this message.they tried a restore, but no help.any thoughts?thanx

    Hello Jaman1953
The problem you have described is very irritating. I would be glad to look into this issue with you.
Do you have a HDMI cable to attach and remove to the device? If so please try that, then power the device off and remove and reinsert the Sim card. Does the error come back?
If the problem persists, please try a hard reset. Here's a link to the reset: http://support.verizonwireless.com/clc/devices/knowledge_base.html?id=49625
Please let me know if this helps.

  • Can't get rid of weird Japanese ads on Samsung Galaxy Tab 4

I have a Samsung Galaxy Tab 4, and one of the first weeks I started using it, this Japanese Assistive Touch type thing appeared, but wasn’t connected with an app I could uninstall to get rid of it. But after a couple weeks, it disappeared without my noticing (or doing anything to cause it to go away). But now (from about several weeks ago) I have started getting these popup ads. However, they are all in Japanese, which leads me to think the Assistive Touch and these ads are connected somehow. When I have accidentally clicked on the ads they try to get me to download their apps (which all have very suspicious permissions). But now I can’t figure out how to make them go away. I have run scans through TrustGo AntiVirus, AVG AntiVirus, Clean Master Antivirus, TrustGo Ad Detector, and Lookout Ad Detector multiple times, and all of them after an initial scan and clear (which only gave basic things and didn’t solve the problem anyway) have told me my system is clean, even though I am still getting the ads. I have run Clean Master’s Junk Files scan, and in the results under the “Obsolete apks” heading, were three apps with Japanese titles, and the words Not Installed underneath them. I told Clean Master to “clean junk”, and the apps disappeared from the list, but the ads were still appearing. Next, I tried running my device in Safe Mode to see if I could pinpoint the problem to a third party app (even though Clean Master had classified them as Not Installed). When I ran it in Safe Mode, I clicked through all the apps available, and no ads appeared. But when I restarted it in Normal Mode, I clicked through all the same apps from Safe Mode, and still no ads appeared. It was only when I went to a third party app that the ads appeared. I went to several third party apps, and ads popped up on almost all of them. However, I’m not sure what to do to now to try to get the ads off. Any suggestions? I would like to avoid doing a factory reset if at all possible.

Not technically, no, but around the beginning of when I got my tablet in
July, an Assistive Touch type thing appeared, but I didn't download it.
That was also in Japanese, but I couldn't figure out a way to delete it.
However, it somehow disappeared without my noticing or doing anything about
it. I feel like they're connected. So the issue's been going on for longer
than from the last app I downloaded. I haven't removed any apps yet to test
    it though.

  • 2.2 - When are we getting a fix for the crap update? Can I get rid of 2.2?

Ever since my phone did the update..It's a piece of crap.  It goes so slow. It freezes ALL of the time. I can't open my text messages several times a day.  I don't receive phone calls sometimes, while it's doing it's freezing thing. It has me force close apps over and over again, many times a day.
I've taken the phone into Verizon and they did a "reset" but that did nothing...after about 15 mins of use it was doing all of the freezing and force closing again.
Everyone is having problems since the 2.2.  I can't believe more people haven't signed up for this forum on purpose to complain or try and get answers like I did.
    Does ANYONE have any answers?
Can I get rid of the 2.2 and go back to how my phone was before because it worked perfectly then.
Is there an update coming to fix this update?
Should I just get a new phone?  Or a different phone all together?
Is there some trick I don't know about that will fix all of this crap?
2.2 reminds me of Vista when it first came out.  Nothing but bugs and problems for everyone.  A totally new way cool system that wasn't perfected before forcing everyone to have it.
    UGH!   Help anyone?

Search the boards, everyone is NOT having issues, in fact most are not. That is why there are not a ton of messages. But they are there.I was one at one point. I personally, would do a factory reset. That was my cure all. Two if you have a task killer, delete it.
Other things to try before a reset is pull the battery out while the unit is on, wait a minute, reinsert and power up. (Basically a soft reset) Also dial and call *228 and choose option 1.
No you can not go back to 2.1, without voiding your warranty and 2.1 is not needed anyways.
If you are unsure on how to do a factory reset, (I suspect the store did a soft reset) leave a message here and someone will walk you through. IF you do teh factory reset and still have locking up issues, you will need to do a warranty exchange.

  • Get rid of the overage payments on proactive and interactive basis? (Give us a Break!!)

I just recerntly had a similar situation with my new edge plan. I justed wanted to say that I have been a huge legacy and new verizon proponent customer for years. But, this is bad. VZW.com needs to offer a different data package or be flexible. This is a ripoff and a scam to max profits. What happened to unlimited plans? ***!
I recently purchased a LG smart phone and Jetpack after getting rid of my iphone. I purchased a 4 Gig plan. Thinking that the 2 gig plan is not enough. I am thinking that the I can control the amount of data that I use and not go over the threshold. Wrong.  I went over the 4 gig mark toward the end of this month and after raising my plan up to 6 gigs it happened again 4 days before my cycle ended. Being charged $15 for overages is not fair. I download image files a the LAN that can be 3-5 gigs, large downloads are common.
Now I can control my downloads and will do that, MS updates and the such, working on it. But the company should let people get used to living within their means by offering to get rid of the overage payments on proactive and interactive basis. The lady i spoke with about the issue was not understanding. She just told I change my plan and raise the plan up to 8 gigs. Not nicely, why would VZ put her in that position?  Well some people can not just throw money at this. Hello?
If VZW and Verizon are going to control the countrys data plane and backbone they need to play fair. I should be able to purchase a fixed cost product and not be nickled and dimed to death. Since going to the share everything plan VZ profits are way up. It's has been reported on the web.  This is not right. This is highway robbery.

Why would Verizon get rid of the overage payments for data that you have legitimately used (by your own admission) on their network?
If you need more data than you originally purchased, then your option is to purchase more.  Just like any other purchase.  If you want to eat more cookies, you have to pay for more cookies.  If you want to drink more beer, you have to pay for more beer.
And as to the suggestion of a "fixed cost product", well they have a 50GB plan for $375 a month.  That's a fixed cost.

  • Getting rid of unwanted applications

How do i get rid of some of the applications that came on the phone? I went to setting, applications, manage/uninstall apps and i clicked on the ones that i don't want and it doesn't have uninstall on any of them. I don't use half of the applications on this phone and i was wondering if there was any other way to get rid of them?

Thank Verizon for this.  They have locked the phone down so you can't remove the apps that they want to force down your throat.  This way Verizon makes more money from 3rd parties like Blockbuster.  They also use their own apps to push their service like Vcast so you buy music, ringtones, and map service from Verizon.  They've also locked down tethering so you have to pay more money to Verizon to do something that the phone and operating system were designed to provide for FREE.

  • How do I get rid of my desktop and have fios wirelessly with a new laptop?

My desktop is useless to me and is taking up way too much space.  What are the steps I need to take to ditch the desktop and have everything wireless (2 laptops)?

The steps? It's really just a matter of buying the laptops and then connecting them wirelessly to the router using the provided key and SSID which is on a sticker somewhere on the router (while setting up the PC, Windows PCs will ask you for this info as one of the optional steps), and then transferring any data over to the laptops if you're getting rid of the desktop. No need to install any special software to get it working other than the usual assortment of Windows Updates. What I would do however, is change the default wireless security of WEP to WPA2-PSK AES on the router via the desktop, which not only is far more secure but is in fact a little faster due to the way it works. For Wireless N should you so happen to get one of the very new routers Verizon has, WPA2-PSK AES is a requirement.
Anyhow, just remember that for FiOS, I wouldn't suggest running anything bandwidth heavy over the wireless. G won't be able to handle anything higher than 24Mbps on average if you're lucky, and also keep in mind the radio works on a shared bandwidth system (meaning 54Mbps theoretical shared amongst everything on it, less if there's lower speed links) on a half-duplex connection. If one device is eating the bandwidth up or has a slower link, everything slows down.

  • Time to get rid of the BIonic

It is December and no update. So, I am exploring my options to get rid of the brick Bionic. I need to know if I would be breaking my contract by giving up a smartphone and going back to a simple phone with no data. I still have an old Verizon phone that I think can be activated. I will try to pick up data from somewhere else for my iPad and give up on smartphones.
    Joey

No you will not be braking your contract, you can change devices and services but if you decided to go back to a smartphone you would fall under the contracts rates instead of any special promo prices that you have now...

  • Need help to get rid of yellow padlock

Help! my droid has a yellow padlock on screen.  Cannot do anything and it is asking for a password to unlock but I use a swipe unlock.  How do I get rid of the yellow padlock without going back to factory reset and losing all my text messages.

Yes it is on auto sync but has only synced 22 of the 1200 plus contacts I have.
I have gone to a Verizon store on repeated occasions regarding this issue.
When I was there last week the young man told me there was nothing I could
do and would just have to wait until I got a new phone.
I will be so happy to get a new phone in december as this has been a major
source of contention for me.  With 4 phones on verizon and $200 plus each
month in phone bills the least you think I could get was a phone that backed
    up my contacts.
My son  at the <Edited for privacy> line has a phone that shuts itself off mid-call on a
    repeated basis.
I think that Verizon should sell a better quality of phone.  We are likely all
moving to Iphones as our update dates come as each one of our smartphone
    lines have repeated issues.
