Getting root's crontab to run with root's privs
I am trying to schedule a cron job to run some serveradmin scripts. If I edit /etc/crontab, the script runs as scheduled, but while it appears to run as user root, it doesn't appear to run with root's privileges.
Here is /etc/crontab and a simplified script:
headquarters:~ admin$ cat /etc/crontab
# The periodic and atrun jobs have moved to launchd jobs
# See /System/Library/LaunchDaemons
# mi hr md mo wd who command
0-59/15 * * * * root /Users/admin/log_afs >> /Users/admin/afs.log
headquarters:~ admin$ cat log_afs
echo ----
echo 'Timestamp: ' `date`
CONNS=`serveradmin command afp:command = getConnectedUsers | grep ipAddress | wc -l`
echo 'Number of Connections: ' $CONNS
Once I install this crontab, I get an afs.log created in the correct location with a hh:15 timestamp, owned by root. To me, this should mean two things
a) The job is running as scheduled
b) The job ran as root
Yet I'm getting output identical to that I would get if I'd run the script as admin (without the sudo prefix). Below is an interactive session:
headquarters:~ admin$ ./log_afs
Timestamp: Wed Nov 14 19:33:05 MST 2007
serveradmin must be run as root
Number of Connections: 0
headquarters:~ admin$ sudo ./log_afs
Timestamp: Wed Nov 14 19:33:29 MST 2007
Number of Connections: 10
headquarters:~ admin$
And below is the output from the cron job:
headquarters:~ admin$ ls -al afs.log
-rw-r--r-- 1 root staff 287 Nov 14 19:30 afs.log
headquarters:~ admin$ cat afs.log
Timestamp: Wed Nov 14 19:30:00 MST 2007
Number of Connections: 0
The script I want to run does a lot more than just count connections; I've simplified it here for discussion. My main question now is "How do I schedule jobs that require root access?" ... not "How do I report X about afs?"
I don't understand ... if the script is running as root (as evidenced by root owning the output file, and /etc/crontab sets root as the scripts owner) ... then why doesn't root have privs? Essentially, this is my original question.
Besides, my original solution was sudo crontab -u root -e with the same results. Editing /etc/crontab and setting the user to root was an alternate approach.
headquarters:~ admin$ sudo crontab -u root -l
Password:
# mi hr md mo wd command
0-59/15 * * * * /Users/admin/log_afs >> /Users/admin/afs.log
headquarters:~ admin$ cat afs.log
Timestamp: Thu Nov 15 08:45:00 MST 2007
Number of Connections: 0
headquarters:~ admin$ sudo ./log_afs
Timestamp: Thu Nov 15 08:48:40 MST 2007
Number of Connections: 10

Getting a new Jframe to run with an existing app
I am trying to come up to speed with NetBeans 5 and Java.
Using the tutorials, I built a simple test app with NetBeans. After this was working I built a JFrame with a combobox and button and added event handlers for each. It all builds but I am having trouble trying to figure out how to get the JFrame to display/run with main in my test app. Below is what I have for main in my test app's main.java. The System.out.println works but the MyJPPanel GUI doesn't display.
public static void main(String[] args) {
MyJPanel mainFrame = new MyJPanel();
mainFrame.setVisible( true );
mainFrame.show();
String result = LibClass.acrostic(args);
System.out.println("Result = " + result);
}Oops, its a JPanel.Well I be thinking you'll be wanting to put that JPanel in a JFrame and then showing that.

Error trying to get LiveCycle ES up and running with JBoss/SQL Server
I am having an error trying to get LiveCycle ES Trial up and running with JBOSS and SQL Server. The LiveCycle ES and JBOSS engines are running on Windows Server 2003 SP #2 under VMWare Server with 2 vCPUs/1 GB vRAM. The SQL Server database is SQL 2005 x86-64 with SP #2 on a separate server.<br /><br />I have carefully followed all of the instructions for setting up jboss, modifying all of the appropriate XML files, downloading the SQL JDBC drivers and putting it in the %JBOSS_HOME%\server\all\lib directory, etc. I tried both the SQL JDBC 1.1 and 1.2 drivers and they both fail.<br /><br />The error I get is on startup of jboss using<br />cmd /c start /low run.bat -c all<br />(and yes I also just tried run.bat -c all)<br /><br />it runs along file until it gets here<br />2008-06-18 16:00:03,123 INFO [org.jboss.resource.connectionmanager.ConnectionFactoryBindingService] Bound ConnectionManager 'jboss.jca:service=DataSourceBinding,name=IDP_DS' to JNDI name 'java:IDP_DS'<br />2008-06-18 16:00:03,123 INFO [org.jboss.resource.connectionmanager.ConnectionFactoryBindingService] Bound ConnectionManager 'jboss.jca:service=DataSourceBinding,name=EDC_DS' to JNDI name 'java:EDC_DS'<br />2008-06-18 16:00:03,373 INFO [org.jboss.resource.connectionmanager.ConnectionFactoryBindingService] Bound ConnectionManager 'jboss.jca:service=ConnectionFactoryBinding,name=JmsXA' to JNDI name 'java:JmsXA'<br />2008-06-18 16:00:03,373 INFO [org.jboss.resource.connectionmanager.ConnectionFactoryBindingService] Bound ConnectionManager 'jboss.jca:service=ConnectionFactoryBinding,name=adobe_JmsQueueXA' to JNDI name 'java:adobe_JmsQueueXA'<br />2008-06-18 16:00:03,389 INFO [org.jboss.resource.connectionmanager.ConnectionFactoryBindingService] Bound ConnectionManager 'jboss.jca:service=ConnectionFactoryBinding,name=adobe_JmsTopicXA' to JNDI name 'java:adobe_JmsTopicXA'<br />2008-06-18 16:00:03,482 INFO [org.jboss.resource.connectionmanager.ConnectionFactoryBindingService] Bound ConnectionManager 'jboss.jca:service=DataSourceBinding,name=DefaultDS' to JNDI name 'java:DefaultDS'<br />2008-06-18 16:00:03,514 WARN [org.jboss.resource.connectionmanager.JBossManagedConnectionPool] Throwable while attempting to get a new connection: null<br />org.jboss.resource.JBossResourceException: Could not create connection; - nested throwable: (org.jboss.resource.JBossResourceException: Failed to register driver for: com.microsoft.jdbc.sqlserver.SQLServerDriver; - nested throwable: (java.lang.ClassNotFoundException: No ClassLoaders found for: com.microsoft.jdbc.sqlserver.SQLServerDriver))<br /> at org.jboss.resource.adapter.jdbc.local.LocalManagedConnectionFactory.createManagedConnecti on(LocalManagedConnectionFactory.java:164)<br />[ lots more error scrolls ]<br /><br />this repeats multiple times<br /><br />I can see that it does acknowledge that I put the sqljdbc.jar file in the appropriate directory from the boot.log<br /><br /><snip><br />15:59:44,856 DEBUG [SARDeployer] deployed classes for file:/C:/jboss/server/all/lib/sqljdbc.jar<br /><snip><br /><br />please help!
APJ<br />We ran into many issues setting up a very similar environment. In the end we had to use a specially configured JBoss, supplied by Adobe, to make a connection with the SQL database. Since you have SQL w/ SP2 on it, you will need the 1.2 driver for sure, but you may want to talk to Adobe support about obtaining the version of JBoss they supplied us with. The Adobe Support Reference Number is: 1-52422366.<br /><br />Even with the alternate JBoss we had to perform the following steps to get the configuration right:<br /><br />1. Install Livecycle from the installation DVD. Follow the instructions for installing LiveCycle supplied by Adobe, including all pre-installation instructions. Make sure NT service is installed with parameters, and dont run Configuration Manager.<br />2. Rename %LIVECYCLE_INSTALL%\jboss to %LIVECYCLE_INSTALL%\jboss_orig<br />3. Extract the zipped new, good instance of JBoss (supplied by Adobe) to the %LIVECYCLE_INSTALL%\ folder <br />4. Go to the %LiveCycle_Home%\deploy folder and make a copy of the file adobeimport_SQLServer.jar file. Rename the copy of the file to aadobeimport_SQLServer.jar. There seems to be a bug in configuration manager that looks for a file with the extra a appended to the beginning of the file name, where that file normally isnt there. Make sure that the adobeimport_SQLServer.jar file is still in this folder as well.<br />5. Edit the data source file (%JBOSS_HOME%\server\all\deploy\ adobe-ds.xml) to point to the correct database for the LiveCycle Server.<br />a. Update the <connection-url>, <user-name>, and <password> tags with the correct database connection information.<br />b. If BAM is to be used on the server (this should be done on the Production server) then delete both lines that state Remove this line, if BAM is used.<br />6. Go to the login configuration file (%JBOSS_HOME%\server\all\conf\login-config.xml), and edit the section labeled <application-policy name = "MSSQLDbRealm">.<br />a. Change the Principal, UserName, and Password options to point to the correct database. These will be the same as what was changed in the adobe-ds.xml file from the step above.<br /><br />7. Edit the system variables on the server. Add to the Path variable %JBOSS_HOME%\bin, and add the variable JBOSS_HOME with the path to the JBoss folder on the server. (D:\Adobe\LiveCycle8\jboss for example)<br />8. From windows services start the JBoss for Adobe LiveCycle ES v8.0 service. Review the JBoss server log (%JBOSS_HOME%\server\all\log\server.log) to verify that JBoss starts without throwing any exception errors (A document timeout exception is the only acceptable exception for starting the service). <br />9. Run the LiveCycle Configuration Manager (%LiveCycle_Home%\ConfigurationManager\bin\ConfigurationManager.bat). <br />a. Select to Not Upgrade fromLiveCycle 7.x.<br />b. Check all boxes on the Solution Component Selection screen.<br />c. For the Task Selection screen check all the boxes except for the Import LiveCycle ES Samples into LiveCycle ES if on the production server. <br />d. Run through the rest of the configuration manager interface to setup the LiveCycle server with the new application server. Follow the steps supplied by Adobe for this.<br />10. Once configuration manager has completed, reboot the server, and verify that JBoss starts up again without any exceptions or errors (again a document timeout exception is an acceptable exception. Look at the server log to verify this (%JBOSS_HOME%\server\all\log\server.log)).

How to get applets running with Java Plug-in on Win but also on Mac OS X???
I've converted to the use of Java Plug-in for my applets, but I need to have those same applets executable from browsers on Mac OS X platform. Surely this has been done, but I don't see how. The browsers I've tried on Mac OS X (Netscape, IE) don't seem to recognize the <OBJECT> tag used for the java plug-in. I've seen no news about the Java plug-in being ported to Macs. How can one get the same applet to run with the Java plug-in on Windows browsers, and also to run with at least one of the common browsers on Mac OS X? Any help would be SO much appreciated!
Those ten dukes look good to me. But the passing of fifteen months has me thinking you've probably moved on. In any case, here's my effort.
I've been through a trial trying to get my applet, developed with 1.4.1_03, to run on my Mac OS X v.10.2.6 in multiple browsers. I'm posting my results here. Comments and feedback are welcome.
JVM support for 1.4.1 is limited to the Safari browser. All other browsers running in Mac OS X that I've tried ( Camino, Opera, Internet Explorer, Mozilla ) are using the 1.3.1 plugin. According to a bug report by Mozilla on this topic ( see Bugzilla Bug # 197813 http://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=197813 )
with the release of Apple's version of Sun's Java 1.4.1 the applet programming model has changed, and only Safari has adapted with this change. Other browsers, according to the report, could not because of a lack of documentation. The use of the MRJCarbon plugin offered by Mozilla (here - http://www.mozilla.org/oji/MRJPluginCarbon.html) only allows Mozilla to use the J 1.3.1. And I have not found any information on the Microsoft site about how to get IE 5.2 to recognize the newer version of Java.
Regarding the use of the OBJECT tag in Safari, it is a matter of debate. A current post on this topic exists in the Applet Development forum:
http://forum.java.sun.com/thread.jsp?forum=421&thread=441002
In my experience, I have not been able to determine that Safari v1.0 recognizes the OBJECT tag. My experience is that the APPLET tag is required to run applets in Safari. The Bugzilla report echoes the problem with the BadMagicNumber error that can arise in Safari. Nonetheless, I enjoy Safari and I enjoy Mac OS X. -
Task does not run with transaction currency
Dear All,
When i am executing IU AR/AP elimination, I am getting error " Task does not run with transaction currency ("per TC" option reset) "
Message no. UCF5104

The present task is configured so that no values are analyzed in transaction currency. However, the option "per transaction currency" is selected in the method definition. This only makes sense if you also want to analyze the values in transaction currency.
System response
The task is being executed without the option "per transaction currency".
Please advise me how to resolve the issue.

My macbook pro has a virus/trojan that is resetting the EFI via apci and it is getting root access privileges. It seems to be creating multiple aliases that bundle with rogue apps and preferences so it is very difficult to control or fix. Please help..It all stems from the "about donwloads" PDF which kicks off the restructuring of the OS..
Well given the fact that it is not just myself who is infected and also that this is my 3rd macbook in 1 year because the other 2 efi's were compromised to the point where they were unusable, and also that I must've been to the mac store no less than 100 times in a year for these issues, I beg to differ. Here is what I can show you. This has been ongoing for over a year now.
I will try and show you as much as I can.
1) Here is what I see when I run mount from terminal:
/dev/disk0s2 on / (hfs, local, journaled)
devfs on /dev (devfs, local, nobrowse)
map -hosts on /net (autofs, nosuid, automounted, nobrowse)
map auto_home on /home (autofs, automounted, nobrowse)
localhost:/4zOta2Q9FMiMnRjTROIbhU on /Volumes/MobileBackups (mtmfs, nosuid, read-only, nobrowse)
Why on earth is /Volumes/MobildBackups my localhost is beyond me. I don't use iCloud and Mobile me is obsolete.
2) Here is what I show when I run ls -al /*/*/*/*.efi from root
-rw-r--r-- 1 root wheel 994464 May 1 00:33 /System/Library/CoreServices/boot.efi
-rw-r--r-- 1 root wheel 994464 Oct 2 2012 /usr/standalone/i386/boot.efi
-rwxr-xr-x 1 root wheel 115716 Dec 13 14:08 /usr/standalone/i386/tmbootpicker.efi
As far as I know my boot.efi should not change everytime I boot my machine.
3) Here is something very interesting. When I run cd /dev followed by ls -al look what I have;

Cant get redmine to run with lighttpd under Arch
Hi, I posted this already in the Redmine forum but I get no answer there since yesterday, so therefore I am trying here now hoping that someone gets me a hint.
Searching the error with google finds solutions but none of them works for me (Mostly "seems you got no bundle installed", I have that).
I am trying the whole day to get lighttpd to run with redmine, but I can not get a solution to that error.
May 14 17:50:04 redmine lighttpd-angel[586]: /usr/lib/ruby/site_ruby/2.0.0/rubygems/core_ext/kernel_require.rb:45:in `require': cannot load such file -- bundler/setup (LoadError)

May 14 17:50:04 redmine lighttpd-angel[586]: from /srv/http/redmine/public/dispatch.fcgi:3:in `<main>'
I searched the web for "cannot load such file -- bundler/setup (LoadError)" and I get some results but none of the solutions helped.
I got all gems installed and the test with "ruby script/rails server webrick -e production" runs, bringing up a working redmine on localhost:3000 however lighttpd keeps crashing.
Here the versions that I have installed
# cd /srv/http/redmine
# bundle install
Using <various gems>
Your bundle is complete!
Gems in the groups development and test were not installed.
Use `bundle show [gemname]` to see where a bundled gem is installed.
# ruby --version
ruby 2.0.0p0 (2013-02-24 revision 39474) [x86_64-linux]
# gem --version
2.0.0
# rake --version
rake, version 10.0.4
# bundle --version
Bundler version 1.3.5
I am running archlinux and that's not the first webserver I set up with arch, however the first attempt with ruby and lighttpd. Testing redmine with unicorn or webrick works, the site is up, I can login as admin and create users and content, but I can not use unicorn or webrick, because I need SSL for redmine...
I am quite lost now, how can I get the thing up?You didn't include the root cause of the error - it's somewhere more up in the error log. Rerunning systemctl like this should get you better feedback.
systemctl --full -n 100 status lighttpd
Anyway no matter the cause it's likely not the only problem you can run into while setting up redmine - so i'll give you my entire step-by-step configuration with php that works (Tested it all in virtualbox with latest packages) and you might figure out what you did wrong.
Make sure you have installed the neccessary stuff - in my case following
pacman --needed --noconfirm -S mariadb mariadb-clients subversion ruby imagemagick lighttpd php php-cgi php-fpm fcgi base-devel
Get redmine
[ -d /srv/http ] || mkdir -p /srv/http
cd /srv/http
svn co http://svn.redmine.org/redmine/branches/2.3-stable redmine
cd redmine
Create database access for redmine
mysql -u root -e "CREATE DATABASE redmine CHARACTER SET utf8;"
mysql -u root -e "CREATE USER 'redmine'@'localhost' IDENTIFIED BY 'my_password';"
mysql -u root -e "GRANT ALL PRIVILEGES ON redmine.* TO 'redmine'@'localhost';"
Copy database config and modify the desired sections of file accordingly
cp config/database.yml.example config/database.yml
production:
adapter: mysql2
database: redmine
host: localhost
username: redmine
password: my_password
encoding: utf8
Install gems and setup redmine
cp public/dispatch.fcgi.example public/dispatch.fcgi
gem install bundler --no-user-install
echo 'gem "fcgi"' > Gemfile.local
bundle install --without development test
rake generate_secret_token
RAILS_ENV=production rake db:migrate
RAILS_ENV=production REDMINE_LANG=en rake redmine:load_default_data
Modify permissions
mkdir -p files log tmp tmp/pdf public/plugin_assets
chown -R http:http files log tmp public/plugin_assets
chmod -R 755 files log tmp public/plugin_assets
Test redmine
ruby script/rails server webrick -e production -p 8080
Configure your /etc/lighttpd/lighttpd.conf - here is mine.
Now if your redmine runs in subdirectory (like mine) fix the routes in 'config/routes.rb' by replacing
RedmineApp::Application.routes.draw do
root :to => 'welcome#index', :as => 'home'
with
Redmine::Utils::relative_url_root = '/redmine'
RedmineApp::Application.routes.draw do
scope ActionController::Base.relative_url_root do
root :to => 'welcome#index', :as => 'home'
Don't forget to add an extra 'end' to the end of file and you should be done. Start your lighttpd and visit your redmine. For futher debug check what's in the following
systemctl --full -n 100 status lighttpd
redmine/log/production.log
your lighttpd error log
Hope i helped you - so drop me a feedback
Edit: Guess it's obvious, but make sure the user that runs lighttpd has all permissions for the folders in which you create sockets...

Failed to get root path for 'UED'
Good afternoon.
I have a problem with my IDES installation in University.
After a server reboot, MAXDB doesn't want to give up.
This is the log:
$ tail startdb.log
Error! Connection failed to node dolphin for database UED: database not found
Opening Database...
Failed to get root path for 'UED'
Error! Connection failed to node dolphin for database UED: database not found
Fri Aug 24 17:11:11 CEST 2007
Connect to the database to verify the database is now open
dbmcli check finished with return code: 0
If I try to run dbmcli manually, I receive the same error:
$dbmcli -u control,****** -d UED
Failed to get root path for 'UED'
Error! Connection failed to node (local) for database UED: database not found
Any suggestions??
Regards,
LucaHi Markus,
I think that my problem is not completely solved.
In fact, now the IDES system is on , but I'm not able to login into it.
When I select UED system on menu of my JAVA GUI and press "connect button", I can't access to SAP login window. (see )
I'm sure that is not a "network problem" of my laptop. (the problem persist also with others SAPGUI).
I've tried to <b>reboot</b> the server, but the situation is always the same. No way to access into the system, popup "connecting" reman.
If I try to see process that are running in the server, via "top -u uedadm" command, this is the situation:

Getting root to recognize .bashrc [SOLVED]
How do I get root to recognize my home directory's .bashrc? I want it to read that so I can color the root BASH prompt and have access to aliases.
Any help would be most appreciated.phrakture wrote:I know!
Don't run as root, just use sudo. Problem solved.
Then how do you make sudo use your aliases, i've got
alias emacs='emacs -nw'
both in /home/user/.bashrc and /root/.bashrc... it works well when i just type emacs in a console, but sudo emacs starts emacs with its ugly gui (although starting emacs after typing sudo -s works the way i want it to)
It's the same with with ls too, try and compare ls to sudo ls -
Photoshop CS5 Exit Code 7 Unable to get root from inChildPath
I downloaded the trial version 32 bit and 64 bit, to my desktop (Core I7 3.2 GHZ, 12Gb ram, Win XP Pro 64) and when installing, it doesn't get past 0%, just spits out this:
0 fatal errors, 1 error, 0 warning
Error: Unable to get root from inChildPath
Exit Code:7 Unable to complete silent workflow
I wanted to see if the install files were bad, some I copied to my craptop, which runs Vista 32 bit, and it works fine. Any word yet on what causes this error? Going to check and see if I missed any updates while I wait to see if anyone's had this issue.Using your links, I can find Adobe's listing for error code 7, but all it tells me is that exit code 7 does not define my problem, but the lines that follow exit code 7 do. Which is the "unable to get root from inChildPath" bit. I might have missed something in your post, but when I poke around the links in the document, and in Adobe's troubleshooting search feature, I can't find anything about the terms "root from inChildPath".
Here's a recap of everything I tried yesterday, note that each error is exactly the same:
At the day's beginning, I had Adobe Master Suite CS4 installed, including PS CS4.
Without un-installing, I attempted to install Photoshop CS5 Trial > Got the error
Copied PS CS5 files to laptop, which also has Master Suite CS4 > Installed fine
Uninstalled Photoshop from Master Suite, then installed PS CS5 > Got the error
Tried to install only 64 bit > Got error
Did "Run As", signed in as admin > Got error
Booted into Safe Mode to install to see if a background process was conflicting > Got error
Reinstalled Master Suite for 6 hours and quit trying... -
Shaman doesn't ask for root password. But gets root privileges!!
As the title says:
Shaman is launched as a reguler user, never asks for root password, but still i able to install and uninstall packages.
Either something in my system is seriously fucked, or there is a major securiy problem with shaman.
Running openbox, installed shaman while running gnome, if that has anythiung to say. Sudo is not installed.
Output from running shaman in terminal:

[gert@flyktig ~]$The point of this thread was that you don't need to enter the root password at all. Not the first time, not ever.
As far as I understand, it is supposed to work like this: When you first use shaman too install anything, it asks for the root password You can tick a "Do not ask me again"-box, so you don't have to enter the password again. If you tick the box and enter the password, shaman add the lines
[auth]
askforpwd=false
to the users shaman.conf-file (~./config/shaman/shaman.conf) The next time shaman is run, it checks the config file, and if the askforpwd value is set to false, it grants itself root privileges (with some nifty setuuid root-thingy, I imagine) This is not the problem - this is the feature.
The bug is this:
the fact that any user can add the lines
[auth]
askforpwd=false
to his own shaman.conf file, without ever entering the root password in shaman. The next time shaman is run, it checks the config file, and if the askforpwd value is set to false, it grants itself root privileges - even though the user has never entered the root password.
This works for any unprivileged user on the system.
If that is indeed a feature intended by any sane person, then I'm Mother Mary. And that can't be, seeing as I don't have breasts. -
Unable to get SQL Server Agent to run after installing SQL 2012 Standard with SP1
I am unable to get SQL Server Agent to run after installing SQL 2012 Standard with SP1. Log message is as follows:
Attempting to load library 'xplog70.dll' into memory. This is an informational message only. No user action is required.
Failed to verify Authenticode signature on DLL 'C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL11.MSSQLSERVER\MSSQL\Binn\xplog70.dll'.
Error: 17750, Severity: 16, State: 0.
Could not load the DLL xplog70.dll, or one of the DLLs it references. Reason: (null).Hi JFriedley,
According to your error message, there might three reasons for this issue.
xplog70.dll is corrupt, you need to check if you have any SQL Server running on same file version and same production
edition. If xplog70.dll is corrupt, you can copy it from the new server where agent is running fine to your problematic server.
Native client not installed properly. If you try applying any latest Service Pack or Cumulative Update then check if the SQL Server Agent can start, if that also doesn’t solve issue then try to reinstalling SQL Server Native client from SQL Server setup
files.
There is a similar issue about error 17750, you can review the following article.

TechNet Community Support -
Dear Scripting Guys,
I am working in an AD migration project (Migration from old legacy AD domains to single AD domain) and in the transition phase. Our infrastructure contains lots
of Users, Servers and Workstations. Authentication is being done through AD only. Many UNIX and LINUX based box are being authenticated through AD bridge to AD.
We have lot of applications in our environment. Many applications are configured to use Managed Service Accounts. Many Workstations and servers are running batch
jobs with AD user credentials. Many applications are using AD user accounts to carry out their processes.
We need to find out all those AD Users, which are configured as MSA, Which are configured for batch jobs and which are being used for different applications on
our network (Need to find out for every machine on network).
These identified AD Users will be migrated to the new Domain with top priority. I get stuck with this requirement and your support will be deeply appreciated.
I hope a well designed PS script can achieve this.
Thanks in advance...
Thanks & Regards Bedanta S MishraHey Satyajit,
Thank you for your valuable reply. It is really a great notion to enable account logon audit and collect those events for the analysis. But you know it is also a tedious job when thousand of Users come in to picture. You can imagine how complex it will be
for this analysis, where more than 200000 users getting logged in through AD. It is the fact that when a batch / MS or an application uses a Domain Users credential with successful process, automatically a successful logon event will be triggered in associated
DC. But there are also too many users which are not part of these accounts like MSA/Batch jobs or not linked to any application. In that case we have to get through unwanted events.
Recently jrv, provided me a beautiful script to find out all MSA from a machine or from a list of machines in an AD environment. (Covers MSA part.)
$Report= 'Audit_Report.html'
$Computers= Get-ADComputer -Filter 'Enabled -eq $True' | Select -Expand Name
$head=@'
<title>Non-Standard Service Accounts</title>
<style>
BODY{background-color :#FFFFF}
TABLE{Border-width:thin;border-style: solid;border-color:Black;border-collapse: collapse;}
TH{border-width: 1px;padding: 2px;border-style: solid;border-color: black;background-color: ThreeDShadow}
TD{border-width: 1px;padding: 2px;border-style: solid;border-color: black;background-color: Transparent}
</style>
$sections=@()
foreach($computer in $Computers){
$sections+=Get-WmiObject -ComputerName $Computer -class Win32_Service -ErrorAction SilentlyContinue |
Select-Object -Property StartName,Name,DisplayName |
ConvertTo-Html -PreContent "<H2>Non-Standard Service Accounts on '$Computer'</H2>" -Fragment
$body=$sections | out-string
ConvertTo-Html -Body $body -Head $head | Out-File $report
Invoke-Item $report
A script can be designed to get all scheduled back ground batch jobs in a machine, from which the author / the Owner of that scheduled job can be extracted. like below one...
Function Get-ScheduledTasks
Param
[Alias("Computer","ComputerName")]
[Parameter(Position=1,ValuefromPipeline=$true,ValuefromPipelineByPropertyName=$true)]
[string[]]$Name = $env:COMPUTERNAME
[switch]$RootOnly = $false
Begin
$tasks = @()
$schedule = New-Object -ComObject "Schedule.Service"
Process
Function Get-Tasks
Param($path)
$out = @()
$schedule.GetFolder($path).GetTasks(0) | % {
$xml = [xml]$_.xml
$out += New-Object psobject -Property @{
"ComputerName" = $Computer
"Name" = $_.Name
"Path" = $_.Path
"LastRunTime" = $_.LastRunTime
"NextRunTime" = $_.NextRunTime
"Actions" = ($xml.Task.Actions.Exec | % { "$($_.Command) $($_.Arguments)" }) -join "`n"
"Triggers" = $(If($xml.task.triggers){ForEach($task in ($xml.task.triggers | gm | Where{$_.membertype -eq "Property"})){$xml.task.triggers.$($task.name)}})
"Enabled" = $xml.task.settings.enabled
"Author" = $xml.task.principals.Principal.UserID
"Description" = $xml.task.registrationInfo.Description
"LastTaskResult" = $_.LastTaskResult
"RunAs" = $xml.task.principals.principal.userid
If(!$RootOnly)
$schedule.GetFolder($path).GetFolders(0) | % {
$out += get-Tasks($_.Path)
$out
ForEach($Computer in $Name)
If(Test-Connection $computer -count 1 -quiet)
$schedule.connect($Computer)
$tasks += Get-Tasks "\"
Else
Write-Error "Cannot connect to $Computer. Please check it's network connectivity."
Break
$tasks
End
[System.Runtime.Interopservices.Marshal]::ReleaseComObject($schedule) | Out-Null
Remove-Variable schedule
Get-ScheduledTasks -RootOnly | Format-Table -Wrap -Autosize -Property RunAs,ComputerName,Actions
So I think, can a PS script be designed to get the report of all running applications which use domain accounts for their authentication to carry out their process. So from that result we can filter out the AD accounts being used for those
applications. After that these three individual modules can be compacted in to a single script to provide the desired output as per the requirement in a single report.

Maverick and Your System message
I've updated my Macbook Pro and my iMac with Maverick, updating the various apps (Pages, Aperture, iPhoto, Numbers & iMovie, too) in the process.
On my Macbook, everything functions perfectly. On my iMac, I get the Your System has Run out of Application Memory message. But it's not Calendar, it's Mail that not only won't open, but when it does now, it takes the entire system out with it.
I open Safari, and it works. I open Firefox, and it works and Safari still works. I open Calendar and it works, Safari and Firefox continue to work. I open Reminders, and everything still works.
I open Aperture, and it opens Finder instead, showing the 3.5 update that was installed two days ago (and Aperture has functioned), but doesn't seem to update the app; after about 20 seconds the update disappears and I can now open Aperture and it shows I'm now opening the updated Aperture, which it didn't show before.
I click on Mail, and the cursor spins for ten minutes. The mail window finally opens, but the cursor spins and does not connect to upload new mail, and I finally Force Quit Mail. Since the Maverick update, even though Mail was not updated (and maybe because Mail was not updated), I have been able to receive emails twice, and then the program crashed.
Besides the Aperture app, Pages didn't fully update on the iMac, and I had to remove the old Pages icon from the dock after the new program loaded up from Applications.
Any ideas?Maverick and Your System message

I was prompted to upgrade to Firefox 4 - I have a 3.6 version. When I move it to my application folder and tried to run it, I get the error that it cannot run with my version of Mac OS. I'm not sure how to update my OS version or go back to an older version of Firefox.
Firefox 4 requires at least OS X 10.5. You can get the latest version of Firefox 3.6 from http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/all-older.html
Mozilla are working to prevent Mac users with non-compatible systems from getting the notification about Firefox 4, and also not displaying the "Download Firefox 4" button on http://www.mozilla.com
