Getting & sending 0-byte images / Skype profile ex...

Dear developers,
there are again stupid issues which make Skype unusable.
Since images are displayed in conversations, I often receive images I cannot open. They have a 0-byte size. The thumbnail is created however. This mostly happens to images in the clipboard which are pasted into the conversation.
The same goes to images I send. People say they are also of 0-byte size, but can see the thumbnails.
When deleting the images in %APPDATA%\Skype\username\media_messaging\media_cache but not deleting the folder "asyncdb", Skype can't correctly start anymore. I get to the main window, but as soon as I open a conversation, the HDD usage goes up to an extreme. Maybe it's searching for the images it can't find over and over. This is on an SSD drive:
After deleting "asyncdb", the problem is fixed.
Why asking for such a problem if it's my own fault since I tempered with my profile folder? Simple: This folder grows up to an exorbitant collection of images and thumbnails I do not want. While Skype is running, I can delete all these images but asyncdb is in use. At the next start, it fücks up.
Either fix an elementary-school-bug or let my HDD fill up with images?
Thanks for your attention.

Next reset LAN settings:
Open Internet Explorer. Go to Tools -> Internet Options -> Connections -> LAN settings. Make sure that the only option selected is “Automatically detect settings”.
Next clear all Temporary Internet Files:
Open Internet Explorer -> Tools -> Internet Options -> General. In the section “Browsing history” press the “Settings” button and in the next window the “View files” button. Delete all files from the Temporary Internet Files folder.
Reboot your computer and test now what happens when you open this link in your Internet Explorer.

    If you don't get helpful replies, I suggest you try to improve your question style a bit. There are many non native English speakers around here and the ability to phrase slick sentences varies. But for a start you could try to adhere to minimal English language standards like starting a sentence with an uppercase letter, and ending a sentence with a dot and a blank to separate it from the next sentence. Don't use ellipses (...) all over the place suggesting that the reader knows what you want to say. Rather please say it.
    Its is good style to only post the necessary code to understand the problem. However, the code you posted seems to be cut off too early to even get a grasp at what you are trying to achieve.

  • RE: Sending jpg bytes over a server

    I had another topic but it has not been answered for a couple days so I guess I will clarify my problem more.
    I'm sending my image over a server, Client->Server->Client.
    My sending and receiving works but I get the image and it cannot be displayed.
    Sending
    try{
                  FileInputStream fis = new FileInputStream("picture.jpg");
                  byte[] buffer = new byte[fis.available()];
                  fis.read(buffer);
                  return buffer;
             }catch(Exception e){
                  System.out.println("Loading Image error");
             }Receiving

                  System.out.println("Problem receiving");
             }Am I packaging it wrong? The received image is 0bytes. Thanks in advance!

    Here you are ignoring the result of the read() method.Meaning?
    Here you are not telling us how the incoming data got into 'image'.I put the bytes of the image into an object and passed it over the network.

  • Blurry Skype Profile Picture

    I've yet to see any legitimate fixes for this.  With this new client I'm now forced to use, I seem to be expericing this bug/issue.  When I encountered this in the past, I just downgraded a version and waited until a newer version came out that I didn't experience this issue with.
    Now that Skype is forcing people to use this one specific version (and future newer ones), I'm at a loss that this bug is still not properly fixed.
    Also any responses about the image resolution, image quality, image file extention - no.  I've always had a HQ Skype profile image, I'm not trying to upload a picture from a potato that's 60x60.  It's not a stretching issue, it's not a resolution issue, it's a Skype issue.  I've never had this problem before and I've always had perfectly HQ images as my profile picture, when I rarely did have these issues, it was the versions fault after I upgraded - not mine.  Upgrading past that version or below that version gave me crystal clear profile pictures again and I never changed what I was doing or how I got them to be HQ.
    Now that I'm being forced to use this new version, I'd like to know if there are any fixes for this issue or are people who also have this issue (and have had it for awhile now - a simple google search will show you how far back this issue has occured) have to endure this until a new version comes out that hopefully does not carry on with the said bug?
    I've tried uploading the image at full resolution, smaller resolution, and from my phone.  Since I'm no longer able to use portable Skype apps that are lower than the newest version, I'm unable to utilize that fix.  I saw someone say uploading it from an iPhone works - I do not have an iPhone.  There was another solution about not using Windows 8 Desktop version - I use Windows 7 therefore I am unable to utilize that fix either.
    Has anyone found a work around for this?  A fix?  Anything?

    Okay, this is just pure annoying. I have a professional group on Skype, because most are used to Skype over Google Hangouts. I've had this group for a very long time. Over the years, we've upgraded the logo, and each time, we've made a Group Profile logo in Adobe Illustrator, as a high DPI Vector image.
    Well, for the past like year, our logo, no matter what resolution it's in (96X96), (480X480), hell the full on 1920X1920, and all variants I can think of between still leaves the image blurry. I've even created a pure black and white version of the logo, to see if color support was the cause. It's still blurry. I've uploaded from one of our Mac's (OSX 10.7), Windows 7 Pro, Windows 8.1 Pro, Windows XP Pro, Android (Moto X Gen 1), iPHone 6 Plus (latest OS), and it's STILL BLURRY.
    This is a seriously high quality logo, yet Skype makes it garbage for all of the professionals in my Group to see. No matter how I crop it, change it, upload it and from where, it's still frigging Blurry.
    So as long as I use Skype, my brand will always look like retro-grade Windows 98 First Edition trash. Thank you Microsoft for never fixing this. I really appreciate the aggravation.
    I've attached a sample logo (that isn't of my brand, or of my brands purpose). This sample is JPG that I just tried, as I was thinking maybe changing the image to something completely pointless may stop it from being blurry. It's still blurry. It's not any particular resolution, it's just a simple image to push home the point. It looks higher quality when full size, but in Skype, it looks like this:
    --- NOTE, Microsoft refuses to let me post direct screenshots of the examples provided.
    With that said, the first attachement is:

  • How best to send double byte characters as http params

    Hi all
    I have a web app that accepts text that can be in many languages.
    I build up a http string and send the text as parameters to another webserver. Hence, whatever text I receive i need to be able to represent on a http query string.
    The parameters are sent as urlencoded UTF8. They are decoded by the second webserver back into unicode and saved to the db.
    Occassionally i find a character that i am unable to convert to a utf8 string and send as a parameter (usually a SJIS character). When this occurs, the character is encoded as '3F' - a question mark.
    What is the best way to send double byte characters as http parameters so they always are sent faithfully and not as question marks? Is my only option to use UTF16?
    example code
    <code>
    public class UTF8Test {
    public static void main(String args[]) {
    encodeString("\u7740", "%E7%9D%80"); // encoded UTF8 string contains question mark (3F)
    encodeString("\u65E5", "%E6%97%A5"); // this other japanese character converts fine
    private static void encodeString(String unicode, String expectedResult) {
    try {
    String utf8 = new String(unicode.getBytes("UTF8"));
    String utf16 = new String(unicode.getBytes("UTF16"));
    String encoded = java.net.URLEncoder.encode(utf8);
    String encoded2 = java.net.URLEncoder.encode(utf16);
    System.out.println();
    System.out.println("encoded string is:" + encoded);
    System.out.println("expected encoding result was:" + expectedResult);
    System.out.println();
    System.out.println("encoded string16 is:" + encoded2);
    System.out.println();
    } catch (Exception e) {
    e.printStackTrace();
    </code>
    Any help would be greatly appreciated. I have been struggling with this for quite some time and I can hear the deadline approaching all too quickly
    Thanks
    Matt

    Hi Matt,
    one last visit to the round trip issue:
    in the Sun example, note that UTF8 encoding is used in the method that produces the byte array as well as in the method that creates the second string. This is equivalent to calling:
    String roundTrip = new String(original.getBytes("UTF8"), "UTF8");//sun exampleWhereas, in your code you were calling:
    String utf8 = new String(unicode.getBytes("UTF8"))//Matt's code
    [/code attracted
    The difference is crucial.  When you call the string constructor without a second (encoding) argument, the default encoding (usually Cp1252) is used.  Therefore your code is equivalent toString utf8 = new String(unicode.getBytes("UTF8"), "Cp1252")//Matt's code
    i.e.you are encoding with one transformation format and decoding back with a different transformation format, so in general you won't get your original string back.
    Regarding safely sending multi-byte characters across the Internet, I'm not completely sure what the situation is because I don't do it myself. (When our program is run as an applet, the only interaction it has with the web server is to download various files). I've seen lots of people on this forum describing problems sending multi-byte characters and I can't tell whether the problem is with the software or with the programming. Two possible methods come to mind (of course you need to find out what your third party software is doing):
    1) use the DataOutput/InputStreams writeUTF/readUTF methods
    2) use the InputStreamReader/OutputStreamWriter pair with UTF8 encoding
    See this thread:
    http://forum.java.sun.com/thread.jsp?forum=16&thread=168630
    You should stick to UTF8. It is designed so that the bytes generated by encoding non-ASCII characters can be safely transmitted across the Internet. Bytes generated by UTF16 can be just about anything.
    Here's what I suggest:
    I am running a version of the Sun tutorial that has a program running on a server to which I can send a string and the program sends back the string reversed.
    http://java.sun.com/docs/books/tutorial/networking/urls/readingWriting.html
    I haven't tried sending multi-byte characters but I will do so and test whether there are any transmission problems. (Assuming that the Sun cgi program itself correctly handles characters).
    More later,
    regards,
    Joe
    P.S.
    I thought one the reasons for the existence of UTF8 was to
    represent things like multi-byte characters in an ascii format?Not exactly. UTF8 encodes ascii characters into single bytes with the same byte values as ASCII encoding. This means that a document consisting entirely of ASCII characters is the same whether it was encoded as UTF8 or ASCII and can consequently be read in any ASCII document reader (e.g.notepad).

  • InsufficientMemoryException while sending large byte array in WCF Service callback

    Hi
    I have a datacontract with a large byte array that is passed by the WCF Service back to the client using a callback contract.
    Until the byte array size remains below 25-30 MB, it is passed OK, but as soon as it exceeds that, an InsufficientMemoryException is thrown on the service side. I have set the max message sizes at 100 MB and using MTOM Encoder.
    I am using WSDualHTTPBinding with sessions and message security - hence streaming is not an option. I know chunking channels are an option, but I want to try to tune the service and client to maximize the byte array size which can be sent over a normal channel.
    Kindly advise how to tune settings to get to around 100 MB byte array size.
    Binding section of web.config is given below. Same settings for sizes are used on client.
    Thanks
    Abhishek
     <wsDualHttpBinding>
            <binding name="WSHttpBinding_IService" closeTimeout="00:01:00" openTimeout="00:01:00" receiveTimeout="00:10:00" sendTimeout="00:01:00" bypassProxyOnLocal="false"
    transactionFlow="false" hostNameComparisonMode="StrongWildcard" maxBufferPoolSize="100000000" maxReceivedMessageSize="100000000" messageEncoding="Mtom" textEncoding="utf-8" useDefaultWebProxy="true">
              <readerQuotas maxArrayLength="100000000"  />
              <security mode="Message">
                <message clientCredentialType="Certificate" algorithmSuite="Default"  />
              </security>
            </binding>
          </wsDualHttpBinding>

    Hi abhisinghal21,
    >>InsufficientMemoryException while sending large byte array in WCF Service callback
    First please try to increase the timeout value in the both client and service side to see if it works:
    closeTimeout="00:10:00" openTimeout="00:10:00"
    receiveTimeout="00:10:00" sendTimeout="00:10:00"
    Then since you do not want to the use the Chunking option to help you, maybe you try to change the wsDualHttpBinding to use the binding which supports the streaming mode and supports callback.
    In streaming transfer mode, the receiver can begin to process the message before it is completely delivered. And the streaming mode is useful when the information that is passed is lengthy and can be processed serially. Streaming mode is also useful when the
    message is too large to be entirely buffered. So it will be better for you to use the streamed mode.
    For more information, please try to check:

    And most of the time I do not process files nor sockets via streaming methodologies. I load them entirely, then process them.
    Actually for direct socket usage, excluding protocols like FTP, I don't believe I have ever streamed processing because in message based protocols the messages are very small.
    Presumably because the OP has one reference to 'thumb' as in thumbnail view?From the OP's first post: 'I stored a image into blob field'.I see. I have stored images in databases before. Excluding storage of medical media files they were all processed in memory because all were rather small.
    Certainly cases where one does in fact want to read an entire file into memory, before one starts processing it.Can't think of any, but in any case if you are able to process it as a stream you are wasting both time and space by not doing so.If I have any data that is in fact "large" I will keep that in mind. But, for example, I can't see processing a configuration file that consists of a couple hundred bytes via stream processing just because files allow for the possibility that one can process a large file.

  • I can't send full sized images

    Hi,
    Ever since I upgraded to Leopard, I've noticed I can't send full-sized images. In Tiger, I had no problems dragging and dropping the desired image to Mail, and it still would send the original file.
    Now, I don't know how, it only sends a preview of that image. Even if I attach the file, it only sends the small version of it. This is really annoying since I do graphic stuff, and the only way I can send the full version of each image is by compressing it.
    I'm about to move back to Entourage. I love mail but this is really getting up to my nerves.
    Is this because of Mail settings???

    when you add an image to a new mail composition window there appears a small scroll button "image size" in the lower right corner of the composition window. set it to "actual size".

  • I am able to get color images in the continues shot but when i try to snap a color image which i need for my processing i get only a monocrome image

    I have been using lv_vfw.llb VI's for grabbing images from a CREATIVE WEB CAM ,i am able to get color images in the continues shot but when i try to snap a color image which i need for my processing i get only a monocrome image ,i have been trying to play around with the RGB weightings but i am unable to get a color iamge,it shall be of great help if you could help me in doing this as it is urgent for me.Thanks for your help.

    vicky,
    I am unfamiliar with the lv_vfw.llb, and have not used it before. However, I noticed that you stated that you are able to grab in color, just not snap in color. If this is the case, why not just perform a grab and then extract a single buffer from this grabbed data, which would likely be in color? This seems like a possible solution to the issue that you are seeing.
    Other than that, I really don't know enough about the lv_vfw.llb to be of much help on this issue. Hopefully another member of this forum will be able to assist you with this software.
