Getting some strange results
I usually use iMovie 4, which is easy to use and effective for my application. While using iMovie 6 for a project that has clips that are too long for iMovie 4, I experienced the following problems:
1. When a fade out is inserted, short snips of audio are mysteriously picked up from another part of the video and play back during the fade. I have tried this several times with different fade duration. I did it at a part of the video where the audio track is essentially silent, but it still picks up a voice from another part of the video.
2. I broke the video into a series of short clips and tried to extract the audio from one of them. It was only a few seconds in duration, but iMovie started to extract the audio from the entire video. The short clip was properly selected and highlighted. So I don't understand why this is happening.
These are very basic editing techniques that I have used without any problems for many years using iMovie 4. Any ideas what might be causing them?
I wanted to mention that the unusual audio problem does not occur with fade ins. I have managed to get by with this project by (a) using fade ins but leaving out the fade outs and (b) doing the work that required the audio extraction in iMovie 4. If there is a fix for these problems, however, I would like to start working more often with iMovie 6.

I'm getting some strange displays on my iTunes song list????
When a song changes on iTunes on my computer, but another window is over it, (such as a web page of instant messenger) the place where the window is covering my iTunes play list the words are all jumbled. I've managed to figure out that what is happening is when a page is over my iTunes and the song changes to reposition the playlist, the previous playlist words are copied over the new playlist position. But when I click on 1 or all the songs the words straighten out. This only happens when like on random the song changes from 1 to 98 (or any change that causes the bar on the side to scroll) and only when another window is over iTunes when it happens. It has no affect on the playing of the song, it just looks weird. How do I fix this?
(ps I tried to explain as best I could, but if its still too confusing I can try to re-phrase it)

During disc repair I get a strange result.

What does this mean? What should I do?That's Permissions Repair, not disk repair. It's an innocuous message that you may safely ignore. It will be repeated.

Strange results when receiving mail sent form mail.app
Hi all,
I've searched these forums for an answer to this problem but I didn't find anything that seemed to fit the bill.
I'm using the latest version of mail.app 2 with updates applied running in 10.4.3.
I'm using Gmail as my mail server but have the same problem with other email servers I have tried.
When I send mail to my work account (based on an exchange server) I'm getting some strange results. I'm using Windows 2000 and Outlook 2003 at work.
When I send an (new) email with an attachment then all text that I write below the attachment in the email, when received through exchange at work, becomes an attachment its self. If this is a plain text email then the attachment is a text file, if it's a rich text email then the attachment becomes a webdocument (HTM). This is not the desired result!
Similarly, if I reply to or forward an email, any text below new text I type into those emails becomes an attachment rather than an actual reply (with that attachment either a text file or a webdocument as stated above).
My question therefore is how can this be corrected. It's rather annoying to have half my message cut off if I put an attachment half way through the email I am composing (I guess i could attach it to the end below all text and signature). Equally frustrating is having replied or forwarded text appear in an attachment.

When you figure out what line that is (use your IDE - Control-G often lets you type in a line number) look at the variables used on that line and see which one(s) hasn't been assigned a value. -

I have a Samsung HD TV and I purchased a Mini Display port to HDMI Adapter today. For some strange reason I get no display on my HD tv. I even tried switching a few HDMI cables and nothing popped up. I made sure my computer performed all software updates, and I even tried calling Apple Support. They just told me to keep trying different hdmi cables and see if anything pops up. Does anybody know what the problem is? My HDMI cable is from "rocketfish" also my display port is too.
You may have the screen refresh rate set higher than the TV is generally able to track reliably. It may be able to get there most times, but occasionally loses sync because it is out of its nominal range.
I suggest you sit down with the manual for the TV and find out what resolutions at what refresh rates it intends to support through VGA, and make sure your screen settings are near (or below) those limits. -
Just downloaded Firefox4 and can't read the top line menu because it's in some strange language with symbols instead of letters. How do I get it to display English in the top line menu?
If I could read the menu, I'd go to tools and see if there were an option to change the menu language, but since I can't read the menu choices, I'd only be pushing meaningless buttons.

Before I give up completely & just stick with Chrome or IE, I'll bring my laptop which has a correctly configured version of firefox 4 side by side with my desktop & use it as a template for clicking on the correct gibberish lines. I still don't see an option for changing menu bar language, but I'll search around a bit.
It would help if I could get phone contact with someone at Mozilla, but they don't seem to list a phone number on their help page ----

I have an iPhone 3GS, for some strange reasons only 45 contact are getting backed up on icloud instead of all the contacts.

First check that all your settings are correct, that contact syncing is checked on all devices (system preferences > iCloud on a mac and settings > iCloud on a iPhone, iPad or iPod).
Make sure the contacts you are adding are added to your 'iCloud' group and not an 'On My Mac', 'On My Phone' or other non iCloud group (you can do this by checking in groups), non iCloud contacts will not sync.
If you are sure that everything is set up correctly and your contacts are in the iCloud group, you might try unchecking contact syncing in the iCloud settings, restarting your device and then re-enabling contact syncing. -

11g outer join with case statement - strange results.

I am experiencing a strange issues in 11g while using case statement.
I am not able to reproduce this using sample data. Not sure what is wrong.
I am not narrowing it to say the usage of case statemnt is giving wrong results, but that is my observation when I am doing trail and error testing.
Here are the details.

when I set the parameter "_complex_view_merging"=false I am getting the right results even with case statement. But I don want to do some thing unsupported.

Help - count function returns strange results
hi everyone,
here's my scenario: i'm trying to get the NUMBER OF REPORTS and NUMBER OF
IMAGES GROUP BY MONTH from the two tables below.
REPORT
reportid(*primary key)
date
IMAGE
reportid(*foreign key referring to report's table)
image
sample output:
MONTH NO.OF REPORTS NO. OF IMAGES
feb 01 10 9
mar 01 12 8
my SQL goes like this:
select to_char(date, 'month-yy'),
count(REPORT.reportid), count(IMAGE.reportid)
from REPORT, IMAGE
where REPORT.reportid = IMAGE.reportid
group by to_char(date, 'month-yy')
the above sql yielded strange results, number of images is equal to the number of reports, which is of course wrong! as one report may or may not contain one or more image.
i dont know what's wrong with the above statement, but if i were to group it
by REPORTID and DAY rather than MONTH, then amazingly it works! what's
wrong with the count, why does it give me the same result if i group by
MONTH.
can anyone shed some light on this?try using the following example:

I want to reinstall CS4 as it has been doing some strange things regarding printing, etc. However, when I did this before, it created a major problem and I ended up buying a new computer because no one could figure out why it kept hanging up during the installation. Hours on the phone, no results. I'm scared to do it on this computer. Should I try? Not even the Adobe support could get it resolved. I believe it was somehow reading a product number that could not be deleted or something, and nothing worked.

In your case I would download a really new trial version of your program(s) in question and change it/them into a "real" version later, BUT because you said, that you "re-installed" already, so it will become a little bit more complicated. It would be necessary that you have to use "Adobe Creative Suite Cleaner Tool" as Keith wrote.
Here an advice for that (The order varies depending on your individual needs. Please read all my proposals first, so you can better choose the first step:)
1. Maybe you have to activate/deactivate, so please have a look there:

2. Sometimes, we know in the meantime, the "opm.db file" is the culprit. In this case you should delete it.
3. Be careful with (de)installing aso. by (de)installing by your own resources. As much as I regret it and as strange as it may seem I fear it's a challenge for Adobe's Creative Cloud Cleaner Tool. Sometimes - for whatever reasons - CC doesn't "want" to work. In this case you should CC completely delete and reinstall by help of Adobe Creative Cloud Cleaner Tool. (A try to uninstall by own resources is not enough!)
