Did you check your security software (firewall)?
A possible cause is security software (firewall) that blocks or restricts Firefox or the plugin-container process without informing you, possibly after detecting changes (update) to the Firefox program.
Remove all rules for Firefox from the permissions list in the firewall and let your firewall ask again for permission to get full unrestricted access to internet for Firefox and the plugin-container process.

  • How can I get the address bar to just display URLs?

With the newest update to Firefox when I type something in the address bar I get more search suggestions than URL suggestions. I only want URL suggestions and want to turn the search off completely. I've tried turning off the "keyword:enable" on the back end of Firefox and it still does not work. Is there a way to go back to just seeing URL's in the address bar?

I've seen a similar thing in another user's screen shot, but I can't seem to trigger it on my own Firefox.
Are you seeing search suggestions for possibly matching words/phrases pulled in real time from your preferred search engine (like the drop-down on the search bar), or history entries reflecting terms you previously searched for?
Do you use any extensions that modify how the address bar works?

  • How do I get the address bar to show the url of the site that I'm on?

In the old version of firefox, the address bar would show the url of the site I was on. When I would change tabs, the address bar would change to reflect the url of the tab. In the new version, the url of the current site will not show unless I hit the identity info button. This is really frustrating because I want the url to show up automatically, instead of showing the last thing I typed or the last site that I was on. If there is a way to fix this, I would really appreciate it. Thanks.

  • How do I get the address bar back on the top of my browser

I just installed the new firefox and when I click on a link and the linked site appears, I lose my navigation bar and get a bar with non functional icons instead. When I right click the non functional bar, it shows rss feeds for that website and asks if I want to subscribe. How do I get rid of this non functional bar and get the navigation bar back?

This issue can be caused by the RSS Icon extension.
Start Firefox in <u>[[Safe Mode|Safe Mode]]</u> to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem.
*Switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance
*Do NOT click the Reset button on the Safe Mode start window

  • How do I get the address bar to not have faded out parts?

I just let firefox update itself, and now my address bar is all faded except for the domain name. This is annoying, as it's harder to read the rest of the URL. How do I get it back to normal?

You can set the pref <b>browser.urlbar.formatting.enabled</b> to <i>false</i> on the <b>about:config</b> page.
To open the <i>about:config</i> page, type <b>about:config</b> in the location (address) bar and press the "<i>Enter</i>" key, just like you type the url of a website to open a website.<br />
If you see a warning then you can confirm that you want to access that page.<br />
*Use the Filter bar at to top of the about:config page to locate a preference more easily.
*Preferences that have been modified show as bold(user set).
*Preferences can be reset to the default or changed via the right-click context menu.

  • How do I get my address bar back? If I type in the URL of a website I need to navigate to, instead Mozilla is doing a Google Search and giving those results. How do I get the address bar back?

My address bar where I type in the URL has disappeared. I've searched through Help options, and found only one piece of moderately useful information (following) in Menu Reference. It is: "Open Location… Focuses on the Firefox URL bar so you can type in a new location to visit." However, Open Location is not included as a menu item in the File Tab in my Mozilla dropdown menu. I am not in Full Screen mode so that is not the problem! I think this may have happened last night when I went into Tools, then chose Options. I had been looking around to find out how to set up multiple tabs to open at Start-Up. Both Internet Explorer and Chrome have that option, and it's an important option to me. Firefox apparently does not over that feature, unfortunately. After looking through all the tab choices under Tools - Options, I went to the View menu, and chose Customize. I tried to add the Flexible Space icon, and it ended up being a mess so I had to remove those. The only thing I can think of is that it may have happened then, but I am not sure. I need my Address Bar back so that I can type in the URLS and just go to the websites.

Open Firefox -> Go to View -> Toolbars -> Chechmark on "Navigation Toolbar"
this will bring back your address bar (where you type links to go to websites :P )

  • Firefox will only open websites via url link, does not even attempt to connect through the address bar.

I can only open Firefox websites by using a url link. If I try to type something in the address bar it will not even attempt to load the page, no loading circle, no error or no connection message. I'm at youtube.com and I type in google.com and slap ENTER. Nothing happens. Nothing. I slap the ENTER key a couple more times to similar effect. I can open blank new tabs, but can't get the address bar to work. I can right click videos and have them open correctly in new tabs or windows, but the address bar refuses to do anything.
Internet Explorer works perfectly fine though. Despite the ads.
I've updated reinstalled, disabled my firewall, restarted firefox, restarted my computer, hasn't accomplished diddly jack squat. If anyone has any idea what's going on here I would highly appreciate your help.

    Hello,
Try clicking on Tool --> Options --> Advanced --> General tab. Uncheck "Use Hardware Acceleration... ". Do you have any add-on like avg safe search installed?
    Hope that helps.

Why does it say "downloading the latest applications" under the address bar?

  • Where can I download firefox 3.6,firefox 4 is terrible ? I used to be able to put a key word in the address bar and go straight to the site now I get a stupid google search. I really hate firefox 4 if I cant go back i will use another browser .

Its all the little things I don't like about firefox 4 mainly the layout and the search.I thought my browser would get an upgrade, this is complete downgrade ,I never went with firefox for speed .I went with firefox because i hate toolbars and I loved the fact I could put tpb only in the address bar and go straight to the pirate bay or ww.bbc.co .uk by typing bbc

The change between Firefox 3.6.* and Firefox 4 is how location bar search works. In Firefox 3.6 it uses Google "Browse by name" search. With the browse by name search, it performs a Google search and if there is a clear match it will take you to the site, otherwise it shows the Google search result. With Firefox 4 it just performs a Google search if you type something which is not recognised as a URL.
To get the Firefox 3.6 behaviour on Firefox 4 you need to change a hidden preference.
    # Type '''about:config''' into the location bar and press enter
    # Accept the warning message that appears, you will be taken to a list of preferences
    # Locate the preference '''keyword.URL''', double-click on it and change its value to the link shown below
    [http://www.google.com/search?ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&sourceid=navclient&gfns=1&q= http://www.google.com/search?ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&sourceid=navclient&gfns=1&q=]
If you prefer, you can also do this by installing the Browse by Name extension - https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/browse-by-name
Firefox is highly customizable and you may be able to customize it to meet your needs.
If you do not like the new UI, you can make Firefox 4 look and behave more like Firefox 3.6, for details see http://www.computertechtips.net/64/make-firefox-4-look-like-ff-3-6

  • Passing values but not in the address bar?

    Hi,
There is a desire to link to a quiz made in APEX from our Intranet page using the Intranet's login (they dont require an APEX login). The way I've been planning on doing it is to take the Intranet's &USER. (or however the value is referenced) and pass it to a hidden item on the first page and then to an application item. However, the user is able to simply delete a character from the address bar's parameter value or make a completely new name...is there a way to just display the URL as: http://link:port/pls/apex/f?p=177:12:4499632641891821::
and pass the parameters to the items another way? Javascript somehow for example? Any help appreciated <3
    Mike

Unsure how bulletproof this solution is, but you can try including a check against the referring URL to ensure the URL isn't manually hacked.
    if OWA_UTIL.get_cgi_env ('HTTP_REFERER') is null
       or lower(OWA_UTIL.get_cgi_env ('HTTP_REFERER')) not like '%my-referring-url%' then
-- sorry, you came from the wrong link
end if;(Try calling owa_util.print_cgi_env in a pl/sql region to show all the environment info available)

  • In version 3.x.x I used to be able to type search terms into the address bar and the page would load, similar to Google's "Feeling Lucky" button. Now it just brings up a Google search for the terms I typed in. How can I get this time saving feature back?

  • Javascript openDoc not working. All I get is a new window with about:blank in the address bar.

I have my resume posted in a website applitrack.com. I can upload PDFs. The PDF file shows up as a link and when I mouse over the link, the status bar shows javascript:openDoc('file', '18292'). When I click the link, I get a new window and "about:blank" in the address bar. This website works fine in IE (the PDF gets launched when I click the file link.
I tried disabling and uninstalling AdBlock Plus and that didn't help.

There have been reports of the PDF plugin not working correctly with Firefox 5.
It may help to change the setting for PDFs here:
