GetURL --javascript stops working under Flash 8

I have ran into a strange problem that I hope is simple to
diagnose. I have done many projects where the Flash object calls a
Javascript in the parent web page using a simple getURL method,
like this:
getURL("javascript:resizeSWF("+40+")");
That has worked fine for years. But I have noted when
publishing these projects as Flash 8, that call no longer reaches
the Javascript function (the Javascript does not execute).
Publishing as ver 7 or earlier is fine. Am I missing something
obvious here, or is there a new security restriction in Flash 8
that prevents directly communicating with Javascript functions?
Thanks

You need to test it online. Change in flash player as well as
IE and FF security
no longer allow Flash - JS - HTML on desktop. You need to
upload it to server and
test in real time. Should work just fine.

    One more note tho, it's good to void the request after you
    make the window call.
    getURL
    ("javascript:n_name=window.open('PAGE.htm','thewin','width=400,height=400,scrollbars=yes' );void(0);");
    *** VOID
    Void returns nothing.
    Have you ever seen pop up windows that say [object] in them?
    well that's because the function that made those windows had
    a return
    value that was an 'object'...
    Void is use to take the result that some function returns and
    discard it.
    Some people do window.open(...);void(0); or
    void(window.open(..)); - does not
    really matter tho .....but it's good practice to use it .
    Also, no need to set NO parameters. By default all are set to
    NO, you only
    define the one you need to be set to YES.

  • Javascript stopped working -- Firefox Ver.28

    This is an FYI --
    - My Firefox installation was updated to version 28 on March 18th.
    - Early this morning while working on a web site javascript stopped working on my home computer.
    - I finally realized that it was working on my office computer (also running version 28) but not my home computer.
    - JavaScript was "enabled" on my home computer according to the about:config information.
    - I tried many of the posted suggestions for this issue; running in safe mode, checking prefrences, etc. but nothing I tried had any effect.
    - I reset my home comptuer's Firefox app. and javascript started working again.
    I'm not sure what got modified after the reset but all is well again. If any information from my configuration can be helpful just ask.

    Somehow my numpad stopped working under gnome. It does work under GDM etc so somehow a setting must have been changed.

    Someone any idea before I start deleting my gnome config files ?

    You can just copy your files to other location
    btw gnome (i think every gtk enviroments) uses keyboard settings from xorg.conf - maybe somethig is wrong with that file? Look at this, but i think first you may copy your gnome configuration to other place so you'll be sure if that is in your config or it is system error.

  • Camera just up and stopped working with flash player. SUUUUPER annoying. Any ideas?

    Hi:
    Windows XP SP3 32bit, latest updates applied
    Firefox 3.6.6 (Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.9.2.6) Gecko/20100625 Firefox/3.6.6 ( .NET CLR 3.5.30729; .NET4.0E))
    IE 8.0.6001.18702
    Flash Player 10,1,53,64
    HP EliteBook 8530w with built-in HP camera (brand spankin' new).
    So Flash Player today decided it doesn't want to work with my webcam. I have pulled my hair out trying to figure out what the problem is. The camera works fine with other video camera software, such as Adobe Flash Live Encoder 3.1, for example, or the various Microsoft cam tools. But Flash Player just won't see it. When I visit a website that uses the camera through flash, all I get is a black box. I never get the privacy screen that asks me if I would like to allow the site temporary access to my camera.If i go into my settings, and go to the camera tab, it shows my camera device in the dropdown box. But you know how if you double-click the little box under the dropdown, it should activate your camera and display a little video inside that box? That doesn't work for me. All I get is this:
    It doesn't matter if I use FF or IE. I've re-installed Flash Player, both the FF version and the Ax version. To no avail. I've logged into my computer as a different user, because hell maybe it's some weird dumb thing in the Flash Player cache or something. Nope.
    Now here's the super, super, super annoying part: I just recently moved to this laptop and one of the things I was looking forward to was a computer where my webcam would FINALLY work with flash player again. Yes, that's right: my old computer had this exact same problem. And in both cases, at one point the camera worked with Flash player no problem, and then at some point, it just stopped working.
    This makes me think, of course, that the problem is some nefarious piece of software I've installed, but I can't think of what that is. I know the camera was working with my new computer as early as last week. Recently I've installed a bunch of software, including Adobe Media Live Encoder 3.1, Flash Professional CS5, and the Adobe Connect add-in. I've uninstalled everything except CS5, because, hey, who wants to re-install that if they don't have to? I'll do that as a last result, but the guy sitting next to me has the entire CS5 suite installed and camera works fine for him with Flash Player (same exact hardware too), so I don't think it's that. Other than that, I dunno. I've got VS2008 and 2010 installed. GoToMeeting. Office. That's about it.
    So. Any ideas? Any thoughts on how I could even start to debug the issue? Logging or something? Any help is much appreciated.

    Yes.
    Victory is mine.
    VICTORY IS MINE!!!
    Solution:
    Go to C:\WINDOWS\system32\Macromed\Flash\mms.cfg
    Set
    AVHardwareDisable=1
    to:
    AVHardwareDisable=0
    Restart your browser. Done. Camera works now.
    I really want to shout this solution from the rooftops, because try Googling the solution sometime. I did. I failed. You will too. Hopefully if I use some more 18-point bold font, Google will index it faster, because that's the way it works right?
    I actually had no idea that Flash Player has a folder in Windows\system32 at all, and I definitely had no idea that this file existed. I am guessing some stinking app I installed decided I needed AVHardwareDisable set to 1 for some reason (effers). I found out about the location by just lazily searching through the windows registry for "Flash Player" and eventually saw it pointing to that directory. A little more poking around and I found this file.
    Those of you who actively support this forum: please keep this in the back of your mind, next time someone has audio/video input problems with Flash Player. I've found an awful lot of forum posts from people with cameras not working, and I bet a good portion of them need this fix. Reinstalling Flash Player will not fix it. Here's hoping the solution comes up in Google for the next unlucky soul.

  • GetURL + Javascript not working

    Hello,
    I am stumped. I am trying to create a popup window from a
    button - this should be simple but i'm having difficulty.
    I can get a new window to launch using the getURL function:
    on(release){
    getURL("
    http://www.bbc.co.uk")
    As I want to make this a popup I wish to adjust the window
    size, and remove the toolbars etc.
    I therefore am incorporating some JavaScript to take care of
    this:
    on (release) {
    getURL ("javascript:NewWindow=window.open('
    http://www.bbc.co.uk','newWin','width=400,height=300,left=0,top=0,toolbar=No,location=No,s crollbars=No,status=No,resizable=No,fullscreen=No');
    NewWindow.focus(); void(0);");
    When I try and launch this the window opens and closes in a
    split second - I cannot get the popup to remain visible. I notice
    that this method has works for many people across the web.
    Is this perhaps a security issue with using Javascript? And
    therefore the browser auto closes.
    Any ideas / help will be much appreciated.

    I know there is a bug out regarding getURL with javascript
    for the most current flash player. This doesn't sound like what you
    are experiencing, but perhaps it will give you a starting place

  • Error message: "application.exe has stopped working" under BEX event name on Windows 7 64-bit.

    I am trying to run a third party program on my Windows 7 64-bit. It has an executable file.
    1. When I double click on this file (appname.exe), I will see a GUI window.
    2. In this GUI window, I will have to select a dynamic link library file (appDLL.dll) to load into the appname.exe that will run the application. This DLL file is compiled in Visual C++ 2010 Express based on a C source code under the Release Win32

    3. It is supposed to run after step 2. Instead it give the BEX error message saying "appkernel.exe has stop working." There is no online solution at this time when I select that option to search for an online solution.

    Hi Brian,
    Thank you for the reply!
    The third party software provider wrote the source code in C. When I compiled this source code, the DLL file will be created in store in the Release folder in the same project directory of the source code.
    I just double check my computer, I have the following Visual C++ packages installed on it:
    1. Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 Redistributable
    2. Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 Redistributable (x64)
    3. Microsoft Visual C++ 2008 Redistributable - x64 9.0.21022
    4. Microsoft Visual C++ 2008 Redistributable - x64 9.0.30729.17

    10. Microsoft Visual C++ 2010 x64  Runtime - 10.0.40219
    11. Microsoft Visual C++ 2010 x86  Redistributable - 10.0.40219
    12. Microsoft Visual C++ 2010 x86  Runtime - 10.0.40219
    13. Microsoft Visual C++ 2010 Express - ENU
    14. Microsoft Visual Studio 2010 Service Pack 1
    15. Microsoft Visual Studio 2010 Express Prerequisites x64 - ENU
    16. Microsoft .NET Framework 4.5.2
    17. Microsoft .NET Framework 4 Multi-Targeting Pack
    From what I understand the Visual C++ 2008 Runtime is included in the Redistributable package.

    There is no way to know what will change in the future. This

    for the reasonable future.

  • Javascript stopped working

    Javascript just stopped working. I've tried toggling it on and off but this didn't help. this has affected every site that I know uses Javascript. The only thing I've done recently that I could imaging affected it was to install Vidalia (in order to use Tor), but I am not running it at the moment.

    Start Firefox in <u>[[Safe Mode]]</u> to check if one of the extensions is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox (Tools) > Add-ons > Appearance/Themes).

  • Playback stopped working in Flash Professional

    I was working with Flash Professional CC with no issues and I either accidentally changed a setting I cannot seem to change back or something wonky is going on.
    All of a sudden, when I try to playback my video in Flash Professional, nothing happens. I click the play button and the program seems to do everything as if it were playing back (minus the playback cursor moving) but it isn't playing anything! I tried to see if it would play when exported to an swf and the same thing happens. The "play" button is clicked and the program acts as if it is playing but nothing is going on. When I click move forward/back a frame it works but the play feature does not work. I am doing the exact same things I did earlier on in the project and they worked without any issue.
    Could it be that my file hit a certain size and now it isn't playing? That doesn't seem possible, my fle is only 6MB.
    Please help!!
    Flash Professional Ned Murphy - I saw you answer a few other questions, I hope you might know!

    Hi kglad, thanks for replying!
    It actually wasn't working when playing the swf AND while trying to playback the animation while still in the Flash timeline. It seemed like something happened with that particular file. After restarting my computer and Flash several times, I tried an older version I saved of the project and that one was playing correctly in Flash and in the swf. I worked off that version and finished the project. Still no idea what caused my other file to stop playing back...I think it was either corrupted somehow or I hit an unknown setting.
    Thanks in advance if you have any ideas!

  • Adobe Flash Player stops working whenever Flash or Rich Media content is loaded.  Can anyone help?

    Whenever I launch a browser, I get a message telling me "Adobe Flash Player 11.5 r502 has stopped working."  Additional message says Data Execution Prevention has closed Flash Player.   I have tried all the applicable fixes suggested on the Flash Player help page (http://helpx.adobe.com/flash-player/kb/flash-player-games-video-or.html).
    Flash Player version: 11.5.502.135  and .146
    OS: Vista Home Prem, sp2, 32-bit
    Browser: Firefox 18.0 and IE 9
    Anyone else have this problem?

    1st)    Click on the apple at the top left corner of your screen. Fourth option down, system preferences click this. Once system preferences opens up adobe flashplayer should be listed on the very bottom row, click this. Once adobe preferences are open make sure you are on the storage tab (listed accross the top), make sure "allow site to save information on this computer" is bulleted. Next click on the "local storage settings by site...". Once you click that, check to see if youtube.com is listed in the box. If not then click the + symbol at the bottom left. Manually enter www.youtube.com. Close out of everything.
    2nd)    Launch safari, look to the very top left corner of your screen. You'll see the word "Safari" just to the right of the Apple logo, click on this and go down to preferences. Next, go to the security tab accross the top. Make sure there is a tick/check mark in the "Allow Plug-ins" option. If it is, click "Manage website settings...". Then on the left-hand column select Flash Player. Then off to the right-hand pane, make sure that youtube.com is listed and that its set to Allow. Quit and re-open Safari.
    All of these steps or at least some portion of this should get it operational. If not, post back... more things we can do.

  • Since installing firefox4.0b5 sound has stopped working with flash. Still works normally with 3.6.x and was working with 4.0b1

    Yesterday I downloaded the latest nightly build of minefield and flash stopped working. I re-installed flash, still now joy. I copied all plugins from usr/lib64/plugins to .plugins and videos then played in flash but without sound. Sound continues to work normally in Firefox3.6.x and in Opera. Distribution is Mandriva2010 Spring

    Strange, it is now working again, I can't think of anything I have changed. - I uninstalled nspluginwrapper and re-installed it, re-booted and that didn't seem to make any difference but just clicked on a video and it played fine with sound. Really annoying because I don't know what to do next time if it happens again.

    Hi Juurraa, <br /> Sorry you are having problems. Everyone finds this frustrating.
    I know you have tried several things but here are some ideas you may wish to consider again, but try them carefully and in this order.
    # Use the latest version of Firefox, it is as likely as any other recent version to work with Flash, and will be more likely to be secure. <br />(fX 15 is about to upgrade to fx 16 anytime now)
    # sometimes an Adobe uninstaller may be needed (lets ignore that for now)
    # try FlashPlayer 11.4 or whatever the latest version <br /> (available from http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/ )
    #* but if you anticipate problems make sure you use with ''protected mode'' disabled <br /> For instructions see http://kb.mozillazine.org/Flash#Flash_Player_11.3_Protected_Mode_-_Windows
    #* only use Flash10.3 if you are unable to use Flash 11.4
    #** if you use Flash 10.3 , do not try to use the Firefox pluginchecker with Flash enabled or it will tell you to update ! <br />( The Flash Updater itself does not seem to have been introduced until Flash 11.2 <br /> see http://www.adobe.com/devnet/flashplayer/articles/background-updater-windows.html )
    If you follow the above advice I would hope
    * FlashPlayer will work without crashing
    ** if it does crash then provide CrashIDs (I will explain that if necessary).
    * Flash Player will not upgrade itself from Flash 10.3 if that is what you choose
