Glitch with Lion, MAMP or user

I've read online others are having problems with MAMP and test server pages not working correctly since starting to use Lion.  I'm still learning about PHP so I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong here.
I'm using OS X Lion and just reinstalled MAMP today after putting the other installation in the trash and emptying it.
I started a new test page with dreamweaver CS5 called phpinfo.php in the htdocs folder to simply display the phpinfo page.  Both Apache and MySQL are running.   However, when I open the page by "preview/debug in browser" through dreamweaver, the page that comes up is:
Not Found
The requested URL /designer/phpinfo.php was not found on this server.
using this path:  http://localhost/designer/phpinfo.php
The page phpinfo.php IS in a folder called "designer" in the htdocs folder, so I don't understand why is says it can't find it.
I'm trying every forum I can think of related to this issue to find out if anyone can help me with this, and since I read that others started having a similar glitch since starting to use OS Lion, I thought I'd try here as well.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I think MAMP runs on port 8888. Try http://localhost:8888/designer/phpinfo.php

  • Yahoo! Mail glitches with Lion mail client and Address Book app

I had really been looking forward to using my Yahoo! mail account in the Lion mail client but now that it is here and I have set it up and used it for a few days I am noticing the following issues:
New mail is not always received or is received late. Yahoo! Webmail portal shows new items but these sometimes do not appear in Lion mail client even after a manual 'get mail' check.
Mail marked as read in Yahoo! Webmail portal or in mail clients in iOS devices such as iPhone or iPad is not marked as read in Lion mail client, however the reverse does work (i.e. mail marked as read in Lion mail client does mark the message as read in webmail and in clients on iOS devices).
Yahoo! Aliases are not supported. Yes, you can add aliases by inserting the other email addresses in the 'Email Address' field of the account settings, but you cannot add more than one display name.
I have also found that if you turn on Yahoo! contacts via the tick-box in the new 'Mail, Contacts & Calendars' pref pane in System Preferences that I end up with random duplicated contacts. These duplicates are not seen on iOS devices, just in the Address Book app. If you delete a duplicate contact, it deletes the contact altogether. However, I have found that if you keep contacts unticked in the pref pane and add your Yahoo! account the old-fashioned way (i.e. via the Address Book app's own preferences) then the contacts sync through perfectly with no duplications.
I would be interested to know if anybody else is experiencing these issues. It may be worth noting that mine is not a @yahoo.com address but @xtra.co.nz which belongs to my ISP here in New Zealand, but the mail is managed by Yahoo!. The account works perfectly as a Yahoo! account on iOS devices and does appear to be working in Lion, except for these small glitches but I don't imagine these are specific to @xtra.co.nz addresses.
    Thanks
    Steve

i've had the same experience here.
essentially it seems like lion mail.app just takes an incredibly long time to pickup new changes from the IMAP server at yahoo.
ios and webmail are obviously much quicker.
if it is working on ios, why does is it so delayed in mail?
    any solutions out there?

  • Graphical glitches with more than one user logged in

    Some of the symptoms:
    - Finder windows that refuse to scroll (unless the cursor is hovered over the dock, then the position will jump)
    - Images that show blanks in Quick Look.  Sometimes reactivating Quick Look will cause the image to be displayed.
    - Interface elements freezing unless the cursor is moved over the dock.
In every case, logging out one user fixes the issues for the other user.  This is on a MacBook Pro with Thunderbolt.

It sounds like you have scheduled it to shut down instead of sleep. Ensure you have selected Sleep and not Shut Down.

  • Glitches in Lion - is there a solution or should I go back to SL?

I'm having a lot of stupid little glitches with Lion that are unfortunately making it difficult to use. Here's a list:
Netflix keeps giving me the Silverlight error prompting me to uninstall and reinstall, which I do to no avail.
If I try to sign out of my account in the App store it signs me in again within a second.
If I try to download updates from the App store I get a (100) error.
Postbox keeps prompting me to re-enter a password for one of my accounts even though I am recieving mail.
    Launchpad resets on startup.
    iTunes will not update.
I can't put anything on my Desktop because there is no space...I'm assuming this is because it's running from Recovery HD.
"Photobooth can't save your photos" error.
I really don't want to go back to Snow Leopard and I love all of the features of Lion but I can't continue to use it if these errors persist. Are there any fixes to these? I've tried repairing disk permissions and verifying that my disk is ok, along with reinstalling Lion from a USB stick.

Shouldn't be having a problem, then. That's the version for ML. Try taking your question to the Safari forum - https://discussions.apple.com/community/mac_os/safari - that's where all the Safari experts hang out.

  • I have a 2nd gen Mac book air with Lion. The hard disk has filled up even though i keep my data , music etc on hard drive . I used disk inspector to find where problem was and it is 20GB in the hidden files under the user directory can i resolve this ?

I have a 2nd Gen MAc book Air with Lion .  The 60GB hard disc has quickly filled up despite me keeping most of my data on a portable hard drive .  I used disk inspector to locate the problem but found that it was was in 20 GB of hidden files in my user directory .  Is this correct and is there anything i can do about it ? Using disk inspector you can not see individual hudden diretories or files. I did unhide them but there is a mass of diretories etc and so no way i could see if this is one or multiple files using the space. Library System and  Applications are at 4 3 and 3 GB respectvely.  The data I actually keep on there is 9GB    Thanks for any help

I think the problem is Quick Time Player. I am using OS 10.6.8 by the way.
    I tried it out again.
I had about 26 GB of space before I played an .avi video.
After the movie started to play (it was slow to load), I got a warning message that my startup disk was full. I opened Disk Utility and it told me I had no space left (about 20 MB or something like that was left).
I watched to the end of the movie.
    Then I quit Quicktime Player.
And I shut down the computer.
I turned on the computer and checked Disk Utility. I have about 26 GB of space.
I think for some reason Quicktime Player uses up a lot of the disk space when it runs movies that are problematic. This movie I was watching did not open with vlc.
I normally use vlc to watch movies.
Probably it doesn't use up this much space when the movie is OK.
I think there's a problem with this particular movie. It is about 50 MB so it's not that big a file. I watch .smi subtitles with it. The Quicktime Player automatically loads the subtitle file in this case because the subtitle file has the same name as the movie file.
I watched about 10 movie files from the same series that I downloaded together and did not have any problem watching them. I watched them on vlc. But this latest movie had problems I think (as I repeat). It did not load on vlc even though I waited for a minute, and normally movies load instantly on vlc.
So I think that movie file caused problems. It made QT player use up a lot of hard disk space.
I had better avoid watching that movie in the future. I don't want it to wreck my hard drive.
So to sum up, everything is back to normal. I have the hard disk space that I should have. However, I am scared of damaging my hard drive due to shonky movie files that eat up all the space when they are played using QT player, and so I will not watch those files in the future, as I do not know why the files do that.

  • How do I get Mac Pro with Lion Server to restart at a set time when users are connected?

I have recently configured a Mac Pro with Lion Server, and have set it to restart automatically every morning at 3am. When I arrive in the morning, I notice that it has not rebooted, usually because it states there are users connected. Is there a way to automatically disconnect users so that the machine will reboot.  No one is ACTIVELY connected at this time of the morning, but may still be logged in somewhere. I did see where I can log out users after a set period of time when using Workgroup Manager to manage a computer or computer group, but I don't use the server to manage all of the computers that have users log in.
    Thanks!

Well, it doesn't necessarily have to be each and every night, but it was for the sole purpose of preventing sluggishness. We had it set up before, as Snow Leopard Server and it would restart every night. It would occasionally be slow and need rebooting, however a manual reboot was not possible by most people in the store as they did not have credentials to screen share and restart it - which would result in holding down the power button to shut it down.
The server is used for the sole purpose of logging in about 50 users just so they can customize their experience, as well as saving items to their own home folders.  The store is closed during the night, and there is no reason anyone would be accessing it during the night.

  • Glitches on our new iMac with lion osx 10.7.2

Our family has been experiencing various glitches with our computer and we have tried everything to fix it with no success. These are some of the glitches/problems we have experienced:
-When desktop picture changes, it flickers to the next one like an old tv rather than fading like it should
-itunes does not work (doesnt play any song no matter how much you press the play button
-If you try to turn the volume up or down it just shows a circle with a cross and doesnt respond
-Takes far longer to shut down and start up than usual
-Unable to open downloaded applications, eg; minecraft (doesnt open until after 20 or more clicks than shows a crash report), logmein hamachi (says it cant connect to the engine
-Flickers in the middle of the screen when switching between fullscreen apps etc.
These glitches usually only happen when you leave it and login the next day for example.
The store has tried everything from testing and changing the ram, replacing the new computer, and reinstalling the software to no success : (
Any suggestions or advice would be great, but we are running out of things to try and I'm getting really sick of it...

    Hi...
Well, as Paul says, you could just let it sleep. I do.
When i will be away for a longer time, i shut it down, and also turn keyboard etc. off.
And yes, its a bit anoying, but hopefully it wil get fixed in some update.
To increase the chances of that, please report this issue to Apple as i have:

  • Aperture simply unusable on new iMac with Lion

I bought a new iMac having been a happy user for many years (iMac 21.5" i3 3.06GHz with 4G RAM), and thought I'd upgrade to Aperture as I want to get a little more creative with my photos.
I was astounded when I imported my iPhoto library of about 60GB that it was still "processing"after 24 hours, but I let it be and it seemed ok
I've just done my first import of about 300 photos from a holiday (they're on an 16GB card so it can't be that big...) and all seemed fine until I quit Aperture and reopened it - now it's back to "processing" and running at snail's pace.  It's been at it for about an hour so far.
This renders this totally useless software - but if I click on "report a problem" on the email receipt, I'm simply taken to the support pages - and if I try to actually contact Apple they tell me my hardware is out of its free support period so there's nothing I can do!
This is absolutely outrageous - I paid £55 for software that simply doesn't work on an almost new machine - and yet apparently it's tough because my machine is more than 3 months old!  Can this be right?
And am I missing something, or is Aperture supposed to take several hours to open up?  It's unuseable as it is.
Secondly, where are my photos that I've uploaded into Aperture?  I've deleted them off the card, so I want to at least import them into iPhoto so I can give up using this heap of junk and ask for my money back.
    Thanks

I see what you are saying andyfromembsay, but most software companies have you buy support after a certain period of time. I just had an issue with Parallels that showed up after thirty days since I installed the program, to get support now I would have to buy it even though I never submitted a support issue in the first thirty days. With Apple if you buy the extended warranty you get support for three years.  I didn't buy the Parallels extra support, it was quite expensive, I went to their forums and found the answer I needed.
Anyways, there is another thread in these discussions about Aperture being slow, it seemed to clear up after an update to 10.7.1. Also someone mentioned using Disk Warrior to clean up a fragmented directories. That is the one piece of software I wouldn't be without. It has saved me so many times!  I ran Disk Warrior before I even upgraded to Lion, fixed a bunch of fragmentation. The upgrade has been smooth. I have not had any glitches with Aperture. I also do not have Time Machine backing up constantly. I have it back up once every 12 hours using Time Machine scheduler, that has also been reported as a problem.
I do think you have an issue, it shouldn't be updating like that, mine hasn't been doing any updating that I can see. I still have the Trial, so maybe that is different, but I used software update to update it to the 3.1. I will probably buy it, but I don't usually spend more than a few bucks on software that I haven't tried out, I have wasted too much money on programs that are not really good and the developer abandons after a year!  I always download a trial before getting software if I have a choice. The Aperture trial was not in the App store, I had to Google to find it, but glad I did, I really wanted to see if it was worth spending more for it than just upgrading to the latest iPhoto (now that is a program that annoys me!) I think it is.

  • Migrating to new macbook air with Lion, entourage 2008 doesn't work

I  bought a new macbook air with lion installed. trying to migrate data from my old macbook with snow leopard. Got most data across, and installed my most frequently used applications:
    - office 2008: most office apps 2008 work, if buggily. entourage not, see below.
    - firefox (hangs up when downloading updates)
    - dropbox (ditto)
<these two problems may have something to do with internet proxy settings, will try to sort that out later>
    MAIN ISSUE:
entourage wont open at all.  so for now i'm using my old comp for e-mail and the new for the rest.
    MY OPTIONS:
please advise (1) what you think is the most time & nerve-saving option (2) how to do it smoothly:
    A) try to get office 2008 to work.
when trying to open entourage, it tells me this version (office 2008 12.0) cannot open this entourage database (12.3)
error for other apps says there is a problem with database, and rebuilding several times did not fix it.
would have to start with updating to the version i used last (office 2008 12.3). Problem is the ms office updater does not seem to work on lion. the first update does not open, says it does not support powermac.
    B) buying office 2011, and migrating entourage 2008 to outlook.
I suppose the best way to do this is to install office 2011 on the old mac first, then on the new one, then move database, right?
    C) migrating from entourage 2008 to lion mail.
best way to do this would be to import entourage email to leopard mail, then move those files to the new mac?  and move entourage addresses into the mac addressbook. my major concern is that i have a lot of mailing rules, and a fair bunch of notes. a lot. i;d rather not have to recreate those by hand. Is there a way to import rules from entourage to mail?
i also habe a huge backstock of mail, over 10,000, and a correspondigly huge addressbook (within entourage). i'm ready to abandon entourage at last (though i used it for a decade), but i want to have my addresses, my rules, and at least the last 3 yrs of emails. i get about 130 mails a day so i need plenty of automatic organizing capability.
i never had issues  my old mac/snow leopard, i just ran out of ram and the one usb broke, so i figured it's time. kinda sorry i did not just get the usb repaired and extra ram. what a hassle these migrations always are.
    cheers!

    Kappy wrote:
Yes, repairing first is a sound idea. In my experience I've only moved from Entourage to the OS X applications or from one version of Entourage to another. In the latter I've been able to just copy over the Microsoft User Data folder. But I have not used Entourage for quite some time.
Microsoft don't make it quite that easy to migrate to their own applications, but the import from a 'tidy' .rge file works well, I had a lot of issues with the first few I migrated but after performing a database repair prior to import all proceeded smoothly.

Lion 10.7.2 On both mac book pro and iMac, both with Lion 10.7.2, obtain repeated iCal event notifications from calendar or address book.  Cannot turn these off.  They repeat several times per session and every time computer is used.  How to diagnose this?

First, uninstall "SuperTV" (whatever that is) according to the developer's instructions. It isn't working and it's filling the log with noise.
If you have more than one user account, these instructions must be carried out as an administrator.
    Launch the Console application.
    Step 1
Make sure the title of the Console window is All Messages. If it isn't, select All Messages from the SYSTEM LOG QUERIES menu on the left.
Enter "BOOT_TIME" (without the quotes) in the search box. Note the timestamps of those log messages, which refer to the times when the system was booted. Now clear the search box and scroll back in the log to the last boot time when you had the problem. Post the messages logged before the boot, while the system was unresponsive or was failing to shut down. Please include the BOOT_TIME message at the end of the log extract.
Post the log text, please, not a screenshot. If there are runs of repeated messages, post only one example of each. Don’t post many repetitions of the same message. When posting a log extract, be selective. In most cases, a few dozen lines are more than enough.
PLEASE DO NOT INDISCRIMINATELY DUMP THOUSANDS OF LINES FROM THE LOG INTO A MESSAGE. If you do that, I will not respond.
Important: Some private information, such as your name, may appear in the log. Edit it out by search-and-replace in a text editor before posting.
    Step 2
Still in Console, look under System Diagnostic Reports for crash or panic logs, and post the most recent one, if any. In the interest of privacy, I suggest you edit out the “Anonymous UUID,” a long string of letters, numbers, and dashes in the header of the report, if present (it may not be.) Please don’t post shutdownStall, spin, or hang logs — they're very long and not helpful.

  • How do I get Front Row to work with Lion?

    Hello fellow Mac users,
How do I get Front Row to work with Lion? I have an iMac 27 inch computer and is the sole entertainment provider for my bedroom. I refuse to put a TV in my room and wanted to know how to get Front Row to work again on my mac? It seems that the upgrade to Lion erased the app.
I have quite a few movies and series that I bought off iTunes and is a shame that I can't use a media center app like Front Row on Lion.

I kind of have the opposite problem. I need to know how to turn off my remote on the computer. I am using the remote for my Apple TV and it keeps making the volume on my Computer go up and down (with annoying sounds).
There used to be a way to un-sync the remote with the comp but I cannot remember how and the Apple help is not much help! I have Lion.
    Thanks!
    Best,
    Tony

  • Mavericks upgrade from Mountain Lion deletes all user accounts

This is a lesson for upgrading too early (and too eagerly).
Today I tried the Mavericks upgrade from Mountain Lion on my 2007 Macbook Pro, after going through all the pre-installation/pre-upgrade checklists.
I don't think I have gone from a very high to a down low in such a short space of time.  I really wanted to move on from Mountain Lion and when the installer finished the upgrade to Mavericks and re-started my MBP, I was super excited.  When the restart completed and I was presented with the login prompt, I tried entering my user name and password.  First time, it shaked on the password... OK, you'd think that is a typo.  Re-entering the password... same thing.
You can imagine what ensued.  After entering my password v-e-r-y slowly many times, I started realising that something went very VERY wrong.
Just for information, I used two different user accounts on my MBP under Mountain Lion.  The one account had administrative priviledges and was only used for installing applications and a few other administrative tasks.  Then I have a second personal account, which does not have administrative priviledges and is the account I use daily for Mail, Safari, iTunes, programming etc.
None of those accounts worked under Mountain Lion.  Basically, there is no way in.
I then proceeded to boot with the startup option Cmd + S (command-line access).  Once that was completed, I was in as root and checked the /etc/passwd.  None of the user accounts were there.  I was only able to find two user accounts: root and nobody; and a long list of user account that started with an underscore (I think these are some sort of esoteric user accounts).  So, it appears that the Mavericks upgrade did not accurately bring over the user account information from my Mountail Lion installation.
Then, I went into the /Users directory and there I could see the home directories for all the users as they were defined under Mountain Lion.  The contents were intact too.
It seems to me that the Mavericks upgrade from my Mountain Lion forgot to bring over the user accounts but it did preserve the contents of all the users' home directories.
Unless anyone can spot some sort of user error here (please let me know), I am heading back to Mountain Lion pretty swiftly.  Otherwise, I suspect there is a bug in the Mavericks installer.
    Any assistance is appreciated.

The reason this occurred is a mystery and has not been commonly reported. Consider the following. It may or may not help. You should probably print these instructions before proceeding.
Boot Single User mode again and do the following:
(You can skip the first step. It will check your boot volume for errors and correct what it can. If there were errors the installer should not have proceeded, but the possibility exists that directory corruption may have occurred during installation. That seems unlikely to me but could explain what went wrong.)
    In Single User Mode:
At the :/ root# prompt, type fsck -fy and press Return or Enter. It will take a few moments to complete. If you are concerned that nothing is happening just press the Return key until you see the :/ root# prompt again.
Once the disk check is complete and the prompt returns, type mount -uw / and press Return / Enter.
Type launchctl load /System/Library/LaunchDaemons/com.apple.opendirectoryd.plist and press Enter. If you get an error message you may ignore it.
Type ls /Users and press Enter. All of the usernames on the computer will be listed, which is helpful if you don’t know or remember what these are.
Type dscl . passwd /Users/username password while replacing username with one of the users displayed in the previous step and replacing password with the new password of your choice. Press Enter. You will likely get an error message about a file or directory not being found. You may ignore this.
    Type reboot and press Enter.
