Global search does not find all relevant emails

Hi
Some emails do not appear in global searches or filters when they should appear. For example, there is a starred email from person X in folder Y which is not found when I search for person X, or click on my filter which identifies starred emails. In effect the email is hidden from searches and filtering.
I've rebuilt the global database by deleting the sqlite file, but the email is still hidden from searches or filters.
A bit more information about my set up; I use Exquilla to interface with my Outlook account and Nostalgy for putting emails in folders. I tend to keep emails in quite a complex folder structure, e.g. lots of folders inside folders.

Finder search does not find all files

Hi,
I am doing a search in Finder and files missing from the results.
I am searching for "silverlight" in "This Mac" in the "File Name". The results give me one file "Silverlight.plugin" in the following folder "Macintosh HD/Library/Internet Plug-Ins".
However there is also another folder in "Macintosh HD/Library/Application Support/Microsoft" with name "Silverlight".
Also there is another folder in "Macintosh HD/Users/[USERNAME]/Library/Application Support/Microsoft" with name "Silverlight".
Why finder does not find in search these files/folders? Any idea?

this happens because system files are not included in default finder searches. I'm not sure why it even found the first file. you may have started the search from inside the main library folder somewhere.
anyway, to include system files in a search do the following
in finder enter command+f to start a finder search. click on "Kind", hold the mouse button, scroll and click on "other". in the resulting popup select "system files" and include them in the search. then all instances of Silverlight will be found.

Has anyone else noticed that iBooks search does not find all information that should be located for a specific search criteria?

I am converting a novel to ePub format. I am currently in the process of adding "end notes" to the book. Each will have a flag embedded at the proper spot in the various chapters that is coded as "[See End Note xx]" where xx is a one or two digit number. Each of the flags has those words surrounded by the HTML that links the flag to the proper end note at the back of the book.
To verify that I have indeed inserted correctly each end note, I copy the book's epub file from my desktop PC to the iPad. I then do a search in iBooks to locate each occurance of "[See End Note" or just "End Note". I should see each of these flags listed. Last night it would list all of them except "[See End Note 28]"! If I did a search for "28", it would appear.
I then copied just the flag itself ("[See End Note 28]") without the associated linkage HTML to the back of the document, and placed the copy just in front of the paragraph that contains it. Neither of the two flags were found.
I then duplicated just the flags for end notes 27 and 29 which the search function had located. I placed the copies surrounding the copied flag for 29. The result was as follows in the text of the book:
[See End Note 27]
[See End Note 28]
[See End Note 29]
Although 27 and 29 were still being shown in their normal places, none of the above three inserted (test) flags was displayed by the search!
It seemed that the iBooks search goes through part of the book, but cannot take the whole book in one piece. It then continues, but leaves a gap that is not scanned per the search criteria. To test that theory, I removed the entire text of several chapters that did not contain any end notes. I then loaded this modified copy of the book into the iPad. When I ran a search using "End Note", all of the flags (including the special test flags) were displayed. The list included the "missing" "[See End Note 28]" that cannot be found if the all of the chapters have their text!
I shall be calling Apple in a few minutes to again attempt to get the apparent "bug" (aka design or coding flaw) removed such that it does not
impact the ability of the iPad to be a useful tool.

Not all movie studio signed up to the agreement with Apple to allow redownloading of movies, only those that did will have their movies available in the purchased section of iTunes.

File search does not find all matches.

If I ask for a file whose name begins with "WXYZ" on <Boot Volume> or "This Mac", matching files in subfolders of /Library do not appear. The only files that appear are in my user directory or on external disks ("This Mac" only, of course.) If, on the other hand, I chose to search /Library, the files are found.
How do I REALLY search for ALL files on a volume or "This Mac" whose name begins with "WXYZ"?

Depending on which email client software you use
the files should be in 'your home folder' library, esp.
if you use Mail application.... ~/Library/Mail
Since you don't specify what mail application,
that would most be associated with the file.
I notice there are some items to the right of your post
where it says "more like this' so that may be worth a
look to see if similar issues were answered. Also, the
Help viewer in your system is a searchable database.
Seems that google also brings up fair information, too.
Do you have a complete bootable clone of your entire
Mac system on an externally enclosed hard disk drive?

Mail subject search is not finding All copies why?

mail 6.3 using a subject search (in the small spotlght) - is not finding All copies in my folders and subfolders why? I have done indexing for all mail folders and that did not correct it.

Are you really still running OS X version 10.7.4 as your post indicates above? I don't believe Mail 6.3 would run correctly on Lion.
If not, and you're really running Mountain Lion, then I suggest Mailbox > Rebuild on the box(es) / folder(s) not working correctly.

General searches do not find all applicable files

all files meeting a search category in Finder do not show up in the results. Even when I search for a known specific file by the exact name it does not show up when searching for it in Finder. The same thing happens when I search in Adobe Bridge. any ideas?

ITunes does not find all pictures in aperture

Hi,
I am trying to sync my first generation iPad with some pictures in aperture via itunes.
All of my folders and projects appear in itunes and are selectable. But itunes shows some folders with 0 pictures, which is not true.
I already made all maintenance procedures on the aperture mediathek, deleted the ipod photo cache folder several times, made several restarts and it does not change.
Some folders are OK, all pictures are synchronizable and some foldres simply show 0.
All my pictures are saved in the aperture mediathek.
Does anybody have an idea, what else could be successful?

I had the problem...firgured my issue out. When I looked at the differences it appears as though itunes wants to know what type of file you have. In other words you need to have the extension. I looked at my photos and the photos itunes saw all had the .jpg or .tif. I exported the files I wanted on the phone, since renaming them didn't change the file name, looked in the finder to make sure that the .jpg was on the file and reimported and boom sync'd perf.

email message is cut short. These messages take up: 7.9kb What does mean and how do I fix it to show all of message?

one email message or many, from a single source or multiple sources. Usually when an email does not display as expected it contains javascript, which Thunderbird does not allow to run for security reasons.

Search does not find certain songs/artists

Hello everybody,
(iTunes 11.0.1 / 10.8.2).
When I search for certain artist, iTunes search will not show them. Yesterday I searched for "Whitney" and nothing was found. But I have 12 songs from Whitney Houston. There are many other artist that will not be found. A lot of the albums are compilations.

Spotlight does have this problem, intermittently. A potential fix is possible by going to Settings > General > Spotlight Search. Uncheck all options, and perform a hard reset on the device (holding down home and power buttons at the same time until you see the Apple logo). Once it starts back up, go back to Spotlight Search, and turn everything (or the certain ones you want) back on. Then perform another hard reset.
If that doesn't work, try Reset All Settings in Settings > General > Reset.

Search does not find text string in a PDF file

Some of the PDFs on my company's website have text that does not come up in a search of the PDF. You can see the text on the page, but it's ignored in a search. When I open the PDF and use the Select tool to copy the six-character string, then paste it into the Search field of the open PDF, the string pastes into the Search window as open boxes. While that might explain why the string is not found in the search, I'm confused about why the characters are correct on the PDF page, but not after they are copied and pasted.
Here is an example: Search for this word in the attached PDF file:

The search will miss the first occurrence of Control in the first bullet on the page.

Most of the fonts are embedded (except 1), but that does not mean you can search them as mentioned. The simplest way to avoid the problem is to go back to more standard fonts, like Arial, Courier, Times New Roman, and such. You may still have a problem with MAC users where they have Helvetical and Times Roman as standard. However, most of the common fonts have the same character associations and it is likely not a problem.

Windows Store Search does not find my app

My app (sudXo) was published in the Windows Store on 3 July. It is now 5 July but the Store Search facility still cannot find my app, even though it does exist at the link sent to me by Microsoft ()http://apps.microsoft.com/windows/app/sudxo/6114c0fe-d25e-43aa-ad33-a16631246593.
How long does it normally take for the Store Search to discover a new application? Is something else wrong?

OK, I got tired of waiting, and submitted a Support Request after five days. This magically fixed the problem. The reply did indicate this was an issue that affected several developers, was a one-time event, and should not occur again. One

Search feature not finding all correct results

Hi Everyone. Need some help please. I have just edited my sons soccer game. I have marked all 10 goals as favourites and added goal as a keyword for each goal.
I now want to search all goals. I click in the in the little search box at the top of the event browser and type goal. Now the result only brings back to me 9 goals. I have found the one that is droping from the search and check if the keyword goal was added. It was.
Why is the search not recognising the 10th goal even with keyword added?

I can't open FCP X for the moment, but I'm pretty sure you need to click the magnifying glass rather than type into the box to search keywords.
This opens up a much more powerful search box. Deselect the 'Type' search that comes up by default, then click the triangle in the little box on the right to modify your search.
Deselect all the ticked boxes (there's a selection to do this) and then tick keywords.
Type 'Goals' into the box and all your goals will be there. If you want to include more keywords, you need to decide whether you want 'Any' or 'All'.

What's wrong with Siri on iOS7? It does not find all of my contacts

I am trying to call somebody with Siri and it tells me it cannot find that person on my contacts even when it's there, does anybody have the same issue? DO you know what's wrong? or how can we fix it?

I just fixed the issue, I restarted my iPhone pressing both buttons (On/off-Sleep/wake & Home) for a few seconds and when turning the iPhone on SIri is working great as it used to work before the upgrade.

Using term set as refiner in content search web part does not show all used terms

When you create a terms set (12 terms with +/- 10-20 child terms) , attach it to a site column and allow multiple values to be selected the search service does not find all used values in the REFINERS tab of the content search web part.
Example:
Field ‘Tags’ is the term set which can be refined. We want to do this in the REFINERS tab of the content search web part.
Tags is containing following fields:
•Course document
•Poster
•ALS
•Before
•During
•CPR/AED I
In all libraries we used +/- 15 different tags already.
Example of a tag field in the library: "Poster;ALS;Belgium"
The problem is we can’t see all of the used tags in the refiners tab when you open it for the first time. (You can see Belgium or Cyprus is not in the list of tags.)
When you select one tag and add it as a refiner, the others eventually do show up. But never all of them together. It’s like he is only showing the most used (and maybe first selected?) tags first. I also think he might be having some trouble
with multi value selections in the tag field.
Does anyone else have the same issue as we do? And is there a solution already?

According to your description, my understanding is that all the used terms cannot display in the Refiners in Content Search web part.
If the results display in the Search Result Preview, then the terms used in these results can be displayed in the Refiners tab.
I tested the same scenario per your post, and when I first opened it I can view all the terms which were used in the search results listed under owsmetadatafacetinfo.
I recommend to do a full crawl and then you can view all the terms used in the search results are displayed under owsmetadatafacetinfo.
