Gmail will not set up

I decided to add my Gmail account to the iPhone. I made sure iMap was turned on in Gmail. I entered the prompted information on the iPhone. It attempts to verify and consistently fails.
I have done the following:
- reset network settings
- deleted and readded the account
- tried manually entering everything under other. I tried this for both pop & imap and neither works.
If it makes any difference, this Gmail account is over 4 years old.

Are you able to complete the setup of the account? (does email account verify?)
If so, are you experiencing an issue with sending, receiving, or both?
If you're not able to set up the account, have you confirmed the email settings (i.e. email address, password - it is really easy to make a typo when entering this information and the settings must be exact).
Have you tried setting up a different email account (i.e. Yahoo!, POP account)?
As a troubleshooting step, I suggest creating a new, test Gmail account (http://mail.google.com/) and see if it is able to be verified and able to receive/send email on the iPhone.
If the test account does not set up correctly, then I suggest connecting your iPhone to your computer, performing a sync of relevant data, and then performing a restore of the iPhone. You want to restore to a new phone (in case any settings/software on the iPhone have become corrupt) and then sync your data back to the iPhone.
Once the restore process has been completed, try to set up your Gmail account on the iPhone again. Let us know if you're successful. Good Luck!

HP Solution Center Software ungrad to Windows 7, will not set up the printer in software

After upgrading from Windows Vista to Windows 7. This was a clean reinstall of Windows Vista and then the upgrade was in stalled. I downloaded the new version of the HP Solution Center full and set it up in my computer.
The printer is HP Officejet Pro L7580 and I have set up the print in my control panel as wireless connection and my wireless software for has been upgraded for Windows 7 and the printer is properly connected and printing.
However when I try to set up my printer in the HP Solution Software it will not set up as a wireless connection for my computer.
Does anyone know how to solve this problem?

Will not set up testing server

I have done this in the past many times. Recently DW 8 will
not set up a testing server when I chose local network.
I am running Windows XP Pro, version 5.1, Service Pack 2.
This is driving me crazy.
Any help.
Also, I can figure out how to call and pay Macromedia for
help with this. Any advice on that.

Actually, the path to the testing server would usually be
like -
c:\inetpub\wwwroot
And usually, you would want your testing server to point to a
FOLDER within
the webserver's root, e.g.,
c:\inetpub\wwwroot\folder
Use a different folder for each site so that you don't get
all your site's
files jumbled up in the webserver's root folder.
Then you would want to specify a URL prefix for your site of
http://localhost/folder
So -

Testing server folder: c:\inetpub\wwwroot\folder
URL Prefix:

I have been having the exact same problem for weeks now with gmail. None of my computers will send Gmail (they will recieve) and my Maverick computers (10.9.1) show gmail smtp.gmail.com as "offline". I had installed Post Box and apple support thought it was that i had too many accounts (I have 2 ipads, an iphone (latest iOs), a work and home iMac and a powerbook). I disabled all my gmail accounts in Mail and still no go from PostBox either . I tried connection doctor and it just spins for outgoing and say I either haveve the wrong pw or login - I dont. I terminaled and tested port 465 (according to gmail instructions) and it works (port 25 did not). I can access gmail from the webmail and send/recieve mail from it and it shows up in my webmail outbox. It is configured for imap.I just cannot send mail at all from any gmail account from any apple device using Mail (or PostBox). I am at a loss as was the apple support person who wished me good luck very politely and sympathetically.

OK, I think I have this solved. After reading my post over, I decided to rethink the problem. First thing I did was download Chrome and I tried using that and IE again and surprise! I was having the same problem on those browsers as well. So now we know it wasn't Firefox. I then figured maybe a slow computer meant a virus, so I ran scans. I've had both Avast and IOBit for months now and I've never had a problem with either of them before. Then I downloaded Malwarebytes and ran a third scan. They all picked some stuff up, but nothing serious. Then I tried disabling all the antivirus stuff and that didn't solve anything. But then I decided to keep Malwarebytes and I uninstalled IOBit Security and whammo - problem solved.
I have no idea why out of the blue IOBit would be causing a problem like this so if someone knows, please let me in on the secret. Additionally, IE was working fairly well last night but not this morning. I also don't know why removing IOBit would take care of the nsAppShell issue, because supposedly, that's related to Firefox plug ins. And one more thing...when Comcast hooked my neighbor up to cable, they did it by putting a splitter on my line. They were messing about with the lines yesterday before I got on my computer last night trying to decide how to rerun them and today they did that, taking the splitter off my line and giving my neighbor his own line. That was finished about 30 minutes before I uninstalled IOBit. So....who knows?
But I ain't about to look a gift horse in the mouth. I have my Firefox back and I am so sorry for bad mouthing you last night - I love you, Firefox!

Destop wallpaper will not set.

My desktop wallpaper will not set... actually it sets or flashes to my choice I make and quickly reverts back to default.
Any clues as to how I can fix it?

Preference files are where your personal settings are stored. Every preference you set in every application and pref pane is written to one of these .plist files. Sometimes these files get corrupted. I'm not sure why. But my experience with OS X since 2002 tells me to check there first when something starts acting wonky.

When you have a problem with one particular site, a good "first thing to try" is clearing your Firefox cache and deleting your saved cookies for the site.
1. Clear Firefox's Cache

I have to disagree with BGreg about downloading the driver from HP.com. I would recommend using Apple's instructions in

Adobe Reader will not set as default application for .pdf in windows 8.1 pro x64

The only solution I could think of was to hack the registry which I looked for but could not find. I am running 8.1 pro x64, I just discovered that windows reader (which I cant uninstall) has the same problem when adobe reader is installed. Windows will not allow either one to be set as default while they co-exist.

I opened a administrator: command prompt window and typed "regedit" Through extensive searching and stumbled on this key located at... HKEY_USERS\S-1-5-21-2274202122-2588692262-2244265822-1001_Classes\.pdf\OpenWithProgids The S-1-5-21...1001... is my current logged on user, your value may differ slightly. Typically the builtin disabled administrator account is 1000 and when you install windows and create a user account "John Doe" it will have administrator priveleges and be auto numbered 1001, every user account created therafter will increase by 1 ie...1002, 1003, 1004 etc. even if you remove (delete) an account and re-create it you wont get the same number, the system will use the next number in sequence. The old one will have been trashed never to be used again. Again here is the key...

Personally I selected computer on the left side and the went to file/export then chose a file name [01 29 2014 regbackup.reg] and location. Then I selected "OpenWithProgids" and did the same thing,[pdf.reg] this saves a backup of the entire regestry and the key you are about to delete as a safety net. When you are done all you have to do is go to a pdf file, right click and choose open with...Adobe Reader - the box always use this app should already be checked.
I did this and it works yet because improper regestry modification can crash your system I am compelled to warn... Use at your own risk. If you are uncomfortable modifying your registry I would suggest consulting with someone qualified and has resources to do offline registry modifications/restorations which makes it VERY important to do the computer export registry backup.

Gmail will not sync

I have been trying for days to find an answer as to why my gmail is no longer automatically receiving messages on my phone. All of the instructions that I find point to check boxes in the Settings>Accounts & Sync and I am unable to find that place after being forced to update to the latest version of software. I deleted my secondary gmail account from my phone in hopes of just getting my primary back to working - no luck. I attempted a manual sync of my primary gmail account and now I simply get a black screen with white letters that says "Your email will appear shortly"....it's been hours.
Does anyone have any suggestions? What else can I try?
I find it interesting that my corporate sync continues to work flawlessly, but my gmail account (the native of the Android platform) will not work.
Any help or guidance that you can provide would be greatly appreciated!

Try to clear the data for the gmail app. Go to settings > applications > manage applications > all tab > scroll down to the gmail app and select it. Press the clear data button. Go back to your homescreen and open the gmail app, press menu and refresh. It might take awhile to load.

Open link behavior will not set

After a PC crash, upon reopening my FF I discovered that EVERYTHING was reset to default values. Now, the only thing that will not return to what I had is the link opening behavior. Despite "options" and "tab mix plus" values set to "current tab", it still opens every link (even login buttons) in another tab. Nothing I do has mitigated this in the least.
