ok so still looking i found this
http://www.reactivated.net/writing_udev_rules.html#tips
which i found this
udevinfo -a -p /sys/devices/pci0000:00/0000:00:10.4/usb1/1-1
udevinfo starts with the device the node belongs to and then walks up the
device chain, to print for every device found, all possibly useful attributes
in the udev key format.
Only attributes within one device section may be used together in one rule,
to match the device for which the node will be created.
looking at class device '/sys/devices/pci0000:00/0000:00:10.4/usb1/1-1':
KERNEL=="1-1"
SUBSYSTEM=="unknown"
SYSFS{bConfigurationValue}=="1"

SYSFS{bDeviceProtocol}=="ff"
SYSFS{bDeviceSubClass}=="ff"

SYSFS{serial}=="01022551D8039098"
SYSFS{speed}=="480"
SYSFS{version}==" 2.00"
im hoping somebody here that understands this can either
A. give me a hint
B. tell me im wasting my time cause of what it says on writing udev rules page
* Remember that unfortunately, the kernel does not export information for all devices into sysfs, meaning that you simply can't write rules for some devices yet. On 20/02/04, the udev author stated that there are 162 drivers left to convert to sysfs.
C. tell me the answer
ill settle for A  i doubt its B. cause i can run it as root
although im udev illiterate  i do wanting to learn
thanks

    Bootup holding CMD+r, or the Option/alt key to boot from the Restore partition & use Disk Utility from there to Repair the Disk, then Repair Permissions.
    Then Repair the backup Disk... any change?

    Hey everyone.
    So, linux-3.10.2-1 just dropped to the [testing] repos, and I got it through a standard -Syu. Along with it were upgraded libxfont, linux-headers, lirc-utils (and I installed extundelete during the same command).

    Then, because I am on a UEFI system, I copied the initrd images and the vmlinuz image over to my ESP (just like I've done many a time before), and now the system won't boot. It doesn't throw any errors; rather, as soon as UEFI selects the entry to run, the computer just sits there (there is nothing in the logs so far as I can find).
    I've booted with a live medium and I've tried regenerating the images and recopying them (the checksums of the images changed, so I figured that might do the trick), but it's still a no-go. Is there something obvious that I'm missing? Has anyone else run into this problem?
    [Edit]: Though this appeared to be solved with 3.10.3, the problem appears to have returned with 3.10.8. No actual solution has been found. As with before, a new kernel has been released (3.10.9) with which this issue does not exist…
    All the best,
    -HG

    So I added /boot to my fstab with option "auto" to not rely on the systemd-efi-generator and /boot was mounted just fine. Then I set noauto,x-systemd.automount and the autofs mount point was created as expected. Then I removed the /boot entry in fstab again and the systemd-efi-generator seems to work fine again...
    I'm seriously confused right now...
    btw, I did all of this mit kernel 3.9.9 booted. 3.10.2 doesn't boot on my system, it's the famous ""EFI machine randomly hangs while loading kernel" bug again. But this shouldn't have anything to do with the kernel install problem...
    edit: I just realized that my "btw" is actually what OP describes. I should have read the thread completely, sorry
    Either way, as far as I can see these are two separate issues. The EFI bug with the long thread that I mentioned above and the fact that /boot seems to not mount in some cases. I did some more testing regarding this, but I still have no idea what is happening. I could have sworn there was no automount point set up by systemd at some point, which would have made sense. But I can't reproduce it anymore...

  • How to show camera permissions dialog again?

    In my video chat app, if a user clicks my button which brings up camera permission dialog, and they deny permission to camera as they do not want to broadcast now. Later if they want to broadcast they should click my buttons again, and camera permissions dialog should appear again. How to make it appear again?

    Hi Gregory,
    shouldn't:
    flash.system.Security.showSettings(flash.system.SecurityPanel.CAMERA);
    invoked in script e.g. in event handler work in that case? (unless you're building and testing in AIR runtime - where there "showPanel" does nothing),

  • Problem with LAMP permissions [SOLVED]

    Alright it seems this happens every time I install LAMP server in one form or another.
    I cant seem to be able to edit the /srv/http folder content with my usual user account.
    I really don't want editing stuff as sudo all the time so I really want to be able to edit
    the contents of that folder as a normal user.
    Here's what puzzles me.  As far as I can tell I have done everything necessary to give
    a normal user write rights to the folder.  Command groups give the following:
    lp wheel http games network video audio optical storage power users
    And when looking at folder permissions I got this:
    drwxr-sr-x 5 root root .
    drwxr-sr-x 18 root root ..
    drwxr-sr-x 2 http http ftp
    drwxr-sr-x 2 http http http
    drwxr-sr-x 2 http http vhosts
    In apache.conf user and group are set to http.
    So where's the problem?
    Last edited by Gri3T0m (2013-12-22 15:56:31)

    Those permissions say the "http" user can read / write but people in the "http" group can only read. Is that what you wanted? It sounds to me like you intended to set the permissions to "775" instead of "755".
    NOTE: I'm kind of distracted right now. I may be misunderstanding your question or that "s" in your permissions...

  • Samba permissions (yes again !)

    Hello
    I have been struggling with a permission issue with Samba my whole afternoon, and it really (I mean really) starts to upset me.
    The user I am testing with is a member of the group nobody.
    I have a share defined as it :
    security = share
    [public]
    path = /home/smbshare
    public = yes
    only guest = yes
    writable = yes
    printable = no
    create mask = 0775
    force create mode = 0775
    The permissions on my smbshare folder (and the files within) are :
    drwxrwsr-x 10 nobody nobody 4096 Jun 5 17:35 smbshare
    When I am using dolphin to browse my share, everything is working as expected. I do not have to enter a pwd and I can create, rename, delete without any problems.
    For instance if I go to :
    smb://127.0.0.1/public/Pictures/
    And create a file with Dolphin, the permissions are exactly what I want :
    -rwxrwxr-x 1 nobody nobody 2 May 20 16:33 test-dolphin.txt
    Now, I want to mount the folder in my user home directory. I am not using Dophin anymore, I do everything from the terminal.
    $ sudo mount -t cifs //127.0.0.1/public/Pictures /home/myuser/Pictures/
    $ cd Pictures/
    $ touch test-konsole.txt
    touch: cannot touch `test-konsole.txt': Permission denied
    But the file is created anyway... with the incorrect permissions (rwxr-xr-x instead of rwxrwxr-x)
    -rwxr-xr-x 1 nobody nobody 0 Aug 28 19:01 test-konsole.txt
    I am not an expert with the samba setup, so what am I missing here ?
    Thanks!

    The "user" nobody is a very special account, I know that much, and will not work with most apps that a user would need to start.  It's a non-login user account which is used for security purposes to deny an attacker a proper login shell.  I'm pretty sure Samba treats the account & user group "nobody" in a special fashion, at least that's what is in my memory.  You might want to check the Samba website's official documentation about this.

  • Serious permissions problems again - on a drive marked ignore ownership?

    I honestly do not understand what is happening to my Western Digital Caviar SE data drive - and it is really getting in the way of my professional use of this computer.
    Several weeks ago I was getting random permissions-denials when trying to write data (specifically when saving files in logic). When I used the finder to test writing and reading from that folder, everything checked out. "Get Info" Permissions check out fine as well.
    However, on advise from this forum I simply checked "Ignore Ownership" on that volume - which worked wonderfully for about a week. Now I am having a similar type of problem which does not seem logical:
    First, I tried to save a photoshop file. I opened a file I had created many weeks ago, made a change, and tried to save - I got an error that says file is locked, or improper permissions. I tried and tried, but I ABSOLUTELY could not get a single permissions issue to crop up in any other application, under any other circumstance.... just photoshop (logic was fine, unlike before).
    Yesterday I (perhaps foolishly) took this as a random error and moved my "Home" folder to my data drive, as I had intended to do before any of these problems. Photoshop magically started saving files, but now I just opened up iTunes and got a message saying "iTunes could not save it's library, because it cannot write to that directory". I looked and the itunes library is targeted right at my music, and upon a reopening of itunes I don't see the message.
    I am greatly disturbed... this issue seems to be "jumping" from application to application. This of course makes no sense, which tells me nothing except that it must be a more complex problem than I or anyone how has helped me previously has guessed.
    It could be anything from a system malfunction, to something stupid I have done! I'm no expert. However I do not fancy the idea have having a permissions error in front of a customer.... and I really need help. I fear if I call apple care they will just ask me to give them the machine - I don't have time for this! I need a machine here for the music, life don't stop for file permissions.
    Can anyone help me?
    thanks so much...
    ~sam

    I have done something else to make this situation worse, the fool I am.... try not to judge to harshly, though my mistake foolish.
    I figured I would just go into the terminal and recursively set my music folder to free access for me. I actually set my entire home folder for free access to read, write, and execute, for everyone........
    So now I have some kinda of disturbing permissions issue (which still happens despite my permissions change noted above), AND my home folder permissions are all wrong.....
    I guess this is beyond help here, you think apple care can sort me out?
    Will the 10.5.2 update perhaps reset my home permissions? If I move my home drive back to my system drive, and repair permissions, will it set them back where they need to be?
    thanks everyone...

  • Nemo, hdd mounting and permissions [SOLVED]

    Hello folks.
    In this brand new arch systemi have two disks: one SSD with the whole / ( in a single partition, yes i don't really need fancy stuff ) plus swap; and a second small ext4 HDD that i'd like to use to store music/picturse and whatever else.
    Since the second drive wasn't mounting on it's own i tryied adding it in fstab:
    # /etc/fstab: static file system information
    # <file system> <dir> <type> <options> <dump> <pass>
    UUID=5ba823d3-ef9e-4859-8288-c9ac71eea1ff / ext4 rw,relatime,data=ordered,discard 0 1 #/dev/sda2 SYSTEM
    UUID=df9659a6-903b-406d-b1c3-77652a695f61 none swap defaults 0 0 #/dev/sda1 SWAP
    UUID=44aac5dc-8f75-46a0-b9c2-6dcc1e695077 /mnt/DATA_160 ext4 rw,relatime,users,data=ordered,uhelper=udisks2,exec 0 2 #/dev/sdb1 DATA
    I copied the mounting option from those used by nemo, plus users ( i'll come back to this in a moment ).
    I created the "DATA_160" directory in /mnt and changed the ownership to <myname>:users so i could do as i pleased inside it.
    I find it frustrating that you have to esplicitly change the ownership of the mounting folder to work with the drive. But at least now it's working.
    Although, at first, i tried to mount it via nemo, just by clicking to the disk picture under "devices": it asked me the password, mounted it but then i was locked out the drive because i didn't have enough permissions, what?
    I really liked the idea to have all my mounted drives under the "places" menu in nemo but the only way i could make it show there was to mount it via nemo which was not very helpful.
    So i tried to copy the mounting options to fstab adding "users" hoping i could bypass the root tiranny but of course i wasn't even close.
    I tried mounting it in /run/media/<my name> hoping nemo was somewhat parsing the list of devices from there but yet no luck.
    Now i'm kinda wandering in the dark and i've come here for help. How can i mount the hard drive and make it show in nemo as a device on its own, instead of passing via a folder inside another device?
    I don't really care about automounting at start, i just want to integrate the mount with nemo or make the already integrated one usable.
    I thought of changing the ownership of /run/media/faceless or even just media but i felt reluctant for two reasons: One. i'm always nervous when playing aroung ownerships, especially in grim places where i don't know what is really going on ( like /run ). Two. I feared those kind of directories were dinamically created with every login or device esplicitly mounted with udisks so that my changes wouldn't last very long.
    Cheers!

    Thank you, i thought i already tried the "defaults" option but now i remember i forgot an 's' ...
    I'll try to play around with udisks wrappers and stuff.
    I read in the wiki that you can set udisks to automatically mount stuff under a /media directory. Maybe that way it get automatically created and may work better than creating it myself.
    EDIT: To think it was that easy... Your fstab line works like a charm. Nano shows it. I have write and execute rights to all the files inside. No need for strange u-stuff to mess around with.
    Thank you!

  • Wpa_supplicant in wired network [SOLVED AGAIN]

    Hi to all!
    Here is a problem with using wpa_supplicant in wired network. My internet provider uses IEEE8021X EAP MD5 for authentication. Recently I used wpa_supplicant with another Linux and it worked. Here is my wpa_supplicant.conf:
    ap_scan=0
    network={
    key_mgmt=IEEE8021X
    eap=MD5
    identity="login"
    password="password"
    I used wired driver and all was working. Now in Arch I cant get internet connection. What I have to do to fix it?
    Here is the problem solvation in Ubuntu. But in Arch there is no such directory /etc/network/ and file 'interfaces' in it. And I suppose that in Arch it must be different. Who did face same problem?
    Thanks.
    PROBLEM IS SOLVED. Internet connection works. I cant show files now, when I setup something with browser I'll show how I solved this problem. Now I must use MS XP for posting here [

    My previous configuration did not work well, often I had to run wpa_supplicant and dhcp client manually (maybe always - it's possible it never worked ). After slight inspection of netcfg2 code, it seems that wired 802.1x is not yet supported natively, and I also realized why my config could not work. The following network profile is now working well for me. Someone might find it helpful.
    # this is /etc/network.d/my8021x

  • [SOLVED AGAIN] Wireless Driver for Broadcom BCM4312 (14e4:4315)?

    Hello,
    I've recently switched to Arch after having Ubuntu installed on my laptop for a year. I'm also been an on/off Debian (and Debian-based) user on my main Desktop for the past two years or so. So it comes to no surprise that it's taking me a lot to get used to a brand-new packaging system, much less having to essentially build it from the ground up. But I'm always up for the challenge.
    I switched from Ubuntu (Kubuntu, specifically) because of the problems it's recently been having in regard to speed and performance. Not to mention the constant freezing every hour. My Arch install when along smoothly. I've been running off of a wired connection, but I really need to get my wireless set up. This is my first roadblock.
    In Ubuntu, it was a 'just-worked' kinda think hen it came to my wireless. The only problem that I've ever had with it during the Ubuntu times was when I first installed Ubuntu: they had not yet added in the Broadcom drivers (or, at least, not a compatible one). And so I had to do a bit of research to get it to work. Since then, I've lost track of the Linux development on my particular card.
    But now it doesn't work, and I can't find a way to get it to work. I've looked at various wiki's and forum posts, but I can't seem to find one that's up-to-date.
    Any help?

    Today's the first day I've been able to actually test the installation to see if it actually worked. Sadly, it doesn't seem to have. I've followed the instructiong on the Broadcom 4312 wiki page, and then moved on to the wireless wiki page to set it up.
    Running iwconfig, I can see that the driver enable wireless:
    $ iwconfig
    lo no wireless extensions.
    eth0 IEEE 802.11 Nickname:""
    Access Point: Not-Associated
    Link Quality:5 Signal level:0 Noise level:0
    Rx invalid nwid:0 invalid crypt:0 invalid misc:0
    eth1 no wireless extensions.
    However, running iwlist scan gives an error:
    $ iwlist scan
    lo Interface doesn't support scanning.
    eth0 Interface doesn't support scanning.
    eth1 Interface doesn't support scanning.
    The wiki says that this is likely to be because I haven't installed the firmware? I've added the wl module to /etc/rc.conf, but I haven't changed any other configuration options. For example, I haven't really touched the networking section of the file, except to change eth0 to eth1 (installed the wireless driver switched the interface). Do I need to add eth0 (wireless) to this section? Or do I have to configure network profiles? I'm really new to all these new configuration options, so I don't really know  where to start.
    Here the networking setion of /etc/rc.conf:
    # NETWORKING
    # HOSTNAME: Hostname of machine. Should also be put in /etc/hosts
    HOSTNAME="ryan-laptop"
    # Use 'ifconfig -a' or 'ls /sys/class/net/' to see all available interfaces.
    # Interfaces to start at boot-up (in this order)
    # Declare each interface then list in INTERFACES
    # - prefix an entry in INTERFACES with a ! to disable it
    # - no hyphens in your interface names - Bash doesn't like it
    # DHCP: Set your interface to "dhcp" (eth0="dhcp")
    # Wireless: See network profiles below
    eth1="dhcp"
    INTERFACES=(eth1)
    # Routes to start at boot-up (in this order)
    # Declare each route then list in ROUTES
    # - prefix an entry in ROUTES with a ! to disable it
    gateway="default gw 192.168.0.1"
    ROUTES=(!gateway)
    # Enable these network profiles at boot-up. These are only useful
    # if you happen to need multiple network configurations (ie, laptop users)
    # - set to 'menu' to present a menu during boot-up (dialog package required)
    # - prefix an entry with a ! to disable it
    # Network profiles are found in /etc/network.d
    # This now requires the netcfg package
    #NETWORKS=(main)
    I haven't touched any other files...
    I'll continue looking through the wiki.
    Also, I haven't tried KDE4's network manager to see if it has problems yet. I was hoping to take the installation one step at a time and get everything working the way I want it to on the console side before moving to and tweaking the graphical side.

  • Desktop permissions problem

    Hi everyone, I've been spending the better half the day searching for a solution to my problem. *My desktop doesn't function as a folder anymore.* If I manually copy or delete files onto my desktop I have to type in my admin password. If another program tries to write a file on the desktop (ie a download from my webbrowser) I get various errors.
    I tried the following already:
    1) 'Get info' on my desktop, change permissions to read/write for everybody. Didn't work.
    2) Go to disk utility, run 'verify disk permissions' and 'repair disk permissions'. Still nothing.
    3) Use terminal and write sudo-something to change the chmod to 777. Still nothing.
    4) Boot up the OS X installation CD and try the disk utility there. Again, still nothing.
    5) Boot up the OS X installation CD and change admin passwords, nothing.
    I'm running out of options here. I've tried everything the other threads suggested but without result. The interesting part is that a striped pen icon is visible in the lower left corner of my finder window when the desktop folder is selected. A tag stating 'no changes' is visible when I hover my mouse over it.
    Thanks for reading, looking forward to solve this mess.

    It's fixed!
    iBod, thank you for your wonderful advice. It didn't entirely solve it though, this is what I did:
    I used your terminal sentence, it renamed the Desktop. After logging in no new desktop was created however. It used the renamed Desktop as if nothing changed. I figured to run 'repair disk permissions' once again using my OS X install CD. After that a new Desktop was created.
    Both desktops were now visible in the sidebar of Finder. So whoever has the same problem, be careful which one you throw away
    iBod, thanks once again. And V.K. too, thanks for your suggestions.

  • Repeating error message: "acl found but not expected" during permissions repair

    repeating error message: "acl found but not expected" during permissions repair
    My iMac is running slow. Processor running all the time. I was told to do permissions repair, so I did that. I get 100's and 100's of "ACL found but not expected" while doing a permissions repair in 'utilities'. It says 1 minute to complete but runs for a half hour. When it finally completes, I can restart the permissions repair again and it starts all over with same endless messages. Even though its says 'repaired', these ACL issues keep coming.
    SEE BELOW ... What's wrong? And How do I fix it?
    Kind thanks for your suggestions,

    repeating error message: "acl found but not expected" during permissions repair
    My iMac is running slow. Processor running all the time. I was told to do permissions repair, so I did that. I get 100's and 100's of "ACL found but not expected" while doing a permissions repair in 'utilities'. It says 1 minute to complete but runs for a half hour. When it finally completes, I can restart the permissions repair again and it starts all over with same endless messages. Even though its says 'repaired', these ACL issues keep coming.
    ACLs are just junk left over from previously installed OSXs. Just ignore. They have no impact.
    Describe your exact issue and computer specs and Linc may run you through a series of tests which may well help you find the problem to your issues. I agree, Permissions repair is rarely required.

  • [SOLVED] Lid doesn't suspend anymore with xfce power manager

    The options "When laptop lid is closed" are set to suspend (and used to work), but still, when I close my lid, nothing happens. Using the logout dialog or the suspend button my keyboard works. Is it a problem with xfce-power-manager, or ACPI not registering the lid event anymore? Any idea how to fix that?
    [edit]
    I solved that problem by removing ~/.config/xfce4/xfconf/xfce-perchannel-xml/xfce4-power-manager.xml, killing the power manager and reloging in my session to flush the settings. Then I reconfigured the lid closed action to suspend (and everything else to my liking).

    Sorry to bother you again, but for some reason it doesn't work anymore...
    Somehow it can't lock the GNOME session, because when I enter the above line from /etc/acpi/handler.sh manually as root in TTY1, I get this error:
    ** Message: Failed to get session bus: Befehlszeile »dbus-launch --autolaunch=c9375f4ea0008d92177b28db000009ae --binary-syntax --close-stderr« brach mit von Null verschiedenem Beenden-Status 1 ab: No protocol specified\nAutolaunch error: X11 initialization failed.\n
    If I enter this command inside GNOME, everything works just fine, it locks the screen and suspends.
    EDIT:
    Setting the XAUTHORITY environment variable properly did the trick. Therefore, I borrowed some lines from here: https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Su … losing_lid
    Thread marked as SOLVED again.

    Yesterday I ran Disk Utility and came up with hundreds of permissions that needed repair.  I hit the "repair permissions" button and waited until it said they were repaired, but just for fun I hit the "verify permissions" button again, and they all came back!  I did this several more times and every time I would hit "verify permissions" I would get the same list.  What's up?  I've always suspected diagnostic programs, but this is Apple's own!

    Ignore them. They aren't errors. You will keep seeing the same ones. As long as you get the message "Permissions repair complete," you're OK.
