Go back/next frame label

Hi:
How can I code a button that goes back to the previous frame
label and another that goes to the next frame label?
I know about prevFrame() and nextFrame(), but I need
something similar that references the next/previous named label and
not the frame number... Any ideas?
thank you,
Rafael.

I don't think someone who is 'new to flash' will not be able to get this by just having the attributes and properties mentioned.  (If you can do that, you're pretty good at it already). Maybe someone can help me with this simple test Flash (which should serve as a begineer tutorial).  (If you are a Flexer, I have made a Flash timeline with three Frame Labelled sections: "One", "Two" and "Three".  Each has two buttons ("nextButton" and "prevButton") along with a text number on the stage, denoting which frame section we are on).  Here is the Actionscript code:
stop();
import flash.events.MouseEvent;
nextButton.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK, onNext)
function onNext(event:MouseEvent):FrameLabel
gotoAndStop(nextFrame);
prevButton.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK, onPrev)
function onPrev(event:MouseEvent):FrameLabel
gotoAndStop(prevFrame);
With this, I get the error:"ArgumentError: Error #2109: Frame label function Function() {} not found in scene Scene 1."  I think this means that I'm supposed to define a function (is it the function that calls my FrameLabel array?).  How do I do this?

  • Jump to next frame label without specifying a name

    Is it possible to jump to next frame label without specifying
    the name of the frame label?
    For example instead of saying

    I wanted it just to go to next available frame label.

    not with actionscript 2.

  • How to go back to frame 1 when the timeline reaches a certain frame?

    I have a timeline that has some label frames at the very end of the timeline. During the timeline a user will hit a button on a frame and will jump to one of the label frames. On the label frame is another button that when clicked - returns the user to the previous frame. How do I make the movie return to frame 1 - without a button - but before it reaches the label frames? In other words, by simply reaching a certain frame in the movie, I want the timeline to go back to frame 1.
    I am using Action Script 3 on a PC
    Thank you.

    Thanks from me as well. I'm trying to make an interactive house simulation game (basic) and hit this issue where the timeline needs to skip to the next segment as several options are available per room (listed one after the other in the timeline). Flash isn't particularly easy to use when it comes to this kind of thing. Is Flash Catalyst CS5 more suited to this?

  • Captivate button going to next frame in Flash MX

    I have a button in Captivate 1.0. I am calling the move with

    the next frame in my Flash MX file. Is this possible? and if so,
    how and if not, how do I get back to my Flash movie next frame

    sorry, I tried to delete this and put it in the Captivate

    thanks for the correction kglad,
    flominton,
    Looks like you're new to Flash like me. Let me walk you through what I've done for my project.
    I opened up a AS2 project in Flash, created three layers (video, postcard, actions)- bottom to top.
    In video layer click on the first frame, and import your flv video. Once the importing is done click on the FLVPlayback on the stage and give it an instance name "player". Right click on the first frame on video layer and open up actions panel, enter this code:
    stop();
    player.addEventListener("complete",function (event:Object) {
    gotoAndStop("LabelNameHere");});
    Now, click on the second frame on postcard layer. Create a keyframe, and in the properties panel give your frame a label. I gave it the name "postcard"  for example. So whatever name you put in the label name area, write it in the code where it says "LabelNameHere". Assuming you have the image you want to put after the video plays in your library panel, drag the image on the stage while you're still in the second frame on postcard layer.
    You dont have to do this part, but after I draged the image on the stage I converted it to a movie clip and created an alpha transition. Let me know if you dont know how to do this.
    If you'd like to link your image to a URL follow these steps. After I converted the image into movie clip, I right clicked on the image on the stage and opened up the actions panel and entered this code:
    on (release) {
        //Goto Webpage Behavior
        getURL("https://www.yourwebsite.com","_self");
        //End Behavior
    Finally, go to your actions layer. make sure this layer has equal number of frames as the the postcard layer does. Insert this code in the last frame of actions layer:
    stop();
    I hope this helps.

  • Frame Label Variable

    Is there any way that I can address a frame label using a variable? When I don't have a label in quotes, isn't it expecting a number?
    sym.stop("labelname");
    What I want to do is have labels as 1-10 so I can have a back and next button that simply add or subtract 1 from the variable that goes to the right frame label name.

    I downloaded the Go To Label sample and it worked great until I tried to modify it to work in my project. I have a series of animations that I would like to have play from start to finish AND have  previous/next buttons that jump to labels. The Go To Label code seems to stop working predictably when the main timeline is playing instead of being stopped as in the sample. I assume it's because it's not sure exactly where the playhead is when the buttons are clicked.
    I've attached a link to a modified version of the Go To Label sample that shows what I'm trying to do. I changed all the "stops" to "plays" so that it plays continuously. I notice that the buttons work correctly at times but not always. For instance, if you let it play on its own without clicking any of the buttons until it reaches "Stop 3" and then click the prev button it will go all the way back to "Stop 1" instead of "Stop 2". It does the same when applied to my project.
    Any ideas on what's happening and how I can modify it to accomplish what I'm trying to do?
    Thanks!

  • Wacky problem with Frame label

    I have a menu set up with three items. Menu item one has
    "gotoAndPlay("video"), menu item two has
    "gotoAndPlay("somethinghere") etc...
    My menu items two and three always jump to the correct frame
    label. I am having a problem with the first menu item.
    When you click through the menu items slowly, content loads
    in correctly, but it seems that if you click different menu items
    too fast, the first menu item jumps back the main timeline to frame
    1. My menu is inside of a movieclip. This is where my frame labels
    are.
    Has anyone ever seen an issue like this before or know how to
    prevent this wacky behavior?

    use the goto methods, not functions:
    _root.gotoAndPlay("video");

  • Skip to next frame

    Dear all
    how can I advance to a next frame in a sequence upon a condition
    becoming true in a previos frame? I am waiting for a response from a
    serial instrument. If the instrument does not respond, the program sits
    there forever. I would like to have some time-out condition, i.e. if no
    response for, say, 5 seconds- move to next frame. Something easy 2 do in
    a text based language- but how can I do it in labview?
    TIA
    YZ

    I must agree with joe, anytime I see a sequence a state machine comes to mind, this is a much more flexible solution since you can easily modify the order of a sequence, skip steps by just modifying the transition logic.  I made the change from sequence to state machined about 3-4 years age and havent looked back.  Finite automata is a very well studied and mature design pattern and is easily modeled and implemented in labview.  The only disadvantage to it is that it is a little bit  more conceptually difficult to grasp than a sequence structure.

  • Action Script for next frame

    Hi,
    I'm making an interactive world map.
    The idea is that the mouse rolls over a country which makes
    the country goes red and the countries name appears. I have got
    this to work fine, but I am trying to use some script so that when
    the mouse clicks down and releases on the country, another screen
    appears which is a screen with information about the country (the
    original screen needs to disappear - it's not a box of text which
    will appear but a whole new screen)
    Can anyone advise? I have tried to use a basic 'on release go
    to' script but it doesn't work.
    Thanks very much.

    Thanks, I've got this to work now, but when it advances to
    the next frame it keeps looping back to the first frame. I've tried
    using stop() on the frame I am advancing to, gotoandStop(2) in the
    first frame and a few other things I have found in the looping
    problem threads on this forum. I'm publishing as a flash movie not
    HTML.
    Any thoughts?

  • Crop Tool -- shortcut to advance to next frame since forward arrow doesn't work in crop tool?

    Hi,
    As a pro, I crop all my photos.
    I normally use the forward arrow to move through each image, but with the crop tool the forward arrow doesn't work for advancing to the next frame.
    It only adjusts the crop.
    This is extremely frustrating for me as it slows down my workflow.
    Is there a one key shortcut, within the Crop Tool -- that permits us to move forward from frame to frame?
    I wish the forward key worked for this within the crop tool!
    Is there an easy answer or a way to format something in Lightroom -- so I can have a one-key method to advance frames within the Crop tool?
    thank so much, Teri

    Thank you so much Jim, really appreciate you're taking the time to get back to me... its so helpful and now I can get my jobs done!
    I just tested it on my Mac and it worked with the Command + arrow Key...
    However, using two fingers for this shortcut is a little clumsy and uncomfortable...
    I think there's a way to create your own keyboard shortcuts -- do you know how to do this, maybe assigning a single key which would be a little easier?
    Thanks again so much for taking the time to answer this Jim and hope you have a great night!
    all the best, Teri

  • Goto next frame in a movieclip from main timeline button

    So what I have is a button (named Next) on the main timeline. I have a movie clip on that frame (on the main timeline) and the movie clip has 3 frames that I want to be able to cycle through using the "Next" button that is on the main timeline. How can I go about doing this?
    Thank you,

    Thanks kglad! Works like a charm. :-)
    I had already named the instance of the movieclip and button so I just needed to change the code to match and it's working great.
    One other issue I've come up with now is that when it goes to the 3rd frame of the movieclip and I click next, it doesn't do anything. shouldn't it go back to frame 1 of the movieclip?

  • Navigating to Frame Label in mc from main timeline

    Lets say that in my main timeline, I have a number of frame
    labels. On stage I have a movie clip (let's call it bg_mc) which
    contains a tweened animation that has been looping repeatedly (so
    it has its own timeline with its own frame labels).
    I would like this to happen:
    - On the main timeline, the playhead enters a specific frame
    called "newBackground."
    - When that happens, I want the playhead in bg_mc to jump to
    the first frame in its timeline, "beginLoop."
    How do I accomplish this?
    Thanks so much for your help!
    David

    Now, this brings on another question... that is, what if the
    opposite is true?
    For instance:
    The main timeline plays to a stop(); at frame 10.
    At frame 10, a movie clip (countdown_mc) which contains a
    countdown timer, begins.
    When the timer reaches 00:00, I want to trigger the main
    timeline to continue and play the next frame (11).
    Thanks again for the great advice,
    David

  • Removing a Button Event Listener on a Specific Frame and Reactivating it on Next Frame

    Hi , i am trying to develop a Slideshow where Next Button needs to behave in a certain way on a specific Frame , lets say a Specific Condition is met only then Next Button would work , I have been able to achieve that but problem is the Button Retains its Event Listener even on the next Frame , whereas  i have already included removeEventListener on the next frame with a new Function for the button , but its doesnt take it like that.

    Problem is with the next one where I have two consecutive frames have different conditions to meet, any ideas how would I disable and enable listeners respectively on these frames ?
    I hope I am not confusing this very much ?;(

  • Error 1009: Buttons Linking to Frame Labels?

    Hello here is my code for my buttons for my rather simple Flash site. I have 5 "frame labels" each label contains a set of frames representing a page. Yet when I test the site with the action script below it freezes on the first frame and gives the message
    Error #1009: Cannot access a property or method of a null object reference. at SelfPromoSite_fla::MainTimeline/frame1()
    This is my code below for my main navigation buttons
    Home_Btn.addEventListener(MouseEvent.MOUSE_DOWN, goHome);
    function goHome(event:MouseEvent):void {
    gotoAndPlay("Home");
    About_Btn.addEventListener(MouseEvent.MOUSE_DOWN, goAbout);
    function goAbout(event:MouseEvent):void {
    gotoAndPlay("About");
    Resume_Btn.addEventListener(MouseEvent.MOUSE_DOWN, goResume);
    function goResume(event:MouseEvent):void {
    gotoAndPlay("Resume");
    Work_Btn.addEventListener(MouseEvent.MOUSE_DOWN, goWork);
    function goWork(event:MouseEvent):void {
    gotoAndPlay("Work");
    Contact_Btn.addEventListener(MouseEvent.MOUSE_DOWN, goContact);
    function goContact(event:MouseEvent):void {
    gotoAndPlay("Contact");
    Also on the "Work" "page" "set of frames" I have buttons to advance between frames.
    button1.addEventListener(MouseEvent.MOUSE_DOWN, goBack);
    function goBack(event:MouseEvent):void
              prevFrame();
    button2.addEventListener(MouseEvent.MOUSE_DOWN, goForward);
    function goForward(event:MouseEvent):void
              nextFrame();
    I've tried putting this action script on the frame where the "Work" label starts and the actual buttons for advancing back and forth are located. I've also tried putting the action script for these buttons on the first frame with the remainder of the button action script above, it does not work. Also when I remove the 2nd set of actionscript altogether the site still freezes on the first frame.

    The 1009 error indicates that one of the objects being targeted by your code is out of scope.  This could mean that the object....
    - is declared but not instantiated
    - doesn't have an instance name (or the instance name is mispelled)
    - does not exist in the frame where that code is trying to talk to it
    - is animated into place but is not assigned instance names in every keyframe for it
    - is one of two or more consecutive keyframes of the same objects with no name assigned in the preceding frame(s).
    If you go into your Publish Settings Flash section and select the option to Permit debugging, your error message should have a line number following the frame number which will help you isolate which object is involved.

  • How do I optimize "Waiting for the next frame"

    When running my swf file in release build, the first time I start the browser after cleaning the browser cache, the .swf will appear in less than a second.  If I attach scout, I can see it is around .7 seconds to finish.
    However, after this run all subsequent times I load the page, it takes ~3 seconds.
    When I look at scout, I see almost identical CPU and memory use , but it is spending ~2.3 seconds "Waiting for the next frame".  (almost an extra 700ms per frame).
    There is no requirement for animation, all of the content is very static.   I'd just like to render it as fast as possible.
    I know it's not related to caching the .swf file because I have tried turning off the caching (by adding a random parameter) and verified using Httplogger that it is always downloading a new .swf file.  (I turned back on caching).  So I'm kind of not sure what to do next...
    What things can I try to optimize this?  Are there places I can read about this issue?
    (P.S.  >>  I notice it spends a lot more time "Waiting for the next frame" when I build a debug version.  Don't know if that's relevant...)
    Thanks!

    There's nothing you can do about "Waiting for next frame" - this is simply the time when Flash Player has finished doing everything it needs to do for the frame, and waiting for the OS to wake it up again. This depends on the framerate you set in your swf - roughly speaking, the waiting time is the budget (1/framerate), minus the time Flash Player spends doing actual work.
    You can find more information here, about understanding how the data you see in Scout relates to how Flash Player works:

    btw, you shouldn't look at performance in a debug swf - you'll get wildly misleading results.

  • GUI way to jump between Frame Labels?

    I have a Flash movie with 15 frame labels over a long span in
    a timeline. Is there a menu or palette that shows these label names
    that lets me jump to specific ones (like Director)?
    I checked out the Movie Explorer and didn't see the label
    names, only frame numbers and various tweens, a lot of stuff. I
    read in the Help and searched this forum for this answer.
    Thank you for any advice or help.

    Movie Explorer does show labels. Maker sure the FRAME button
    is pressed.
    (Show Frames And Layers, right next to the one which looks
    like CD)
    Tho, this won't work across multiple scenes, per single
    timeline only.
