Goal Seek alternative in Excel Services

Hi,
I have a need to use "Goal Seek" in my excel.
The problem is that I am using excel services and I need the system to automatically execute the Goal Seek and return me a value. I am calling Excel Services from my ASP page on SharePoint to retrieve an excel file from my document library and load it in
Excel Services.
Since Goal Seek is not supported in Excel Services, I need to know of any alternative available in UDF or excel formula.
Thank you.

  • Function equivalent of Goal seek as in excel

    hi
    oracle 10.2.0.1.0
Is thr any fucntion in oracle equivalent to that of Goal seek in excel ?
    please help

    Goal Seek
Goal Seek is used when you know what answer you want, but don't know the exact figure to input for that answer. For example, you're quite certain that 8 multiplied by something equals 56. You just not sure what that missing number is. Is it 8 multiplied by 6? Or Is it 8 multiplied by 7? Goal Seek will tell you the answer.
We'll test that example out right now. So start a new spreadsheet, and create one the same as in the image below:
Before you can use Goal Seek, Excel needs certain things from you. First it needs some sort of formula to work with. In the image above we have the simple formula =B1 * B2. We've put this in cell B3. But the answer is wrong for us. We had a Goal of 56 (8 times something). We want to know which number you have to multiply 8 by in order to get the answer 56. We tried 8 times 6, and that gave the answer of 48. So we have to try again.
Instead of us puzzling the answer out, we can let Goal Seek handle it. So do the following:
From the Excel menu bar, click on Tools
From the drop down menu, click on Goal Seek
A dialogue box pops up like the one below:
The dialogue box needs a little explaining. "Set cell" is the answer you're looking for, this is the Goal. Set cell needs a formula or function to work with. Our formula is in cell B3, so if your "Set cell" text box does not say B3, click inside it and type B3.
"To Value" is the actual answer you're looking for. With "Set cell", you're just telling Excel where the formula is. With "To Value" you have to tell Excel what answer you're looking for. We wanted an answer of 56 for our formula. So click inside the "To Value" text box and type 56.
"By Changing Cell" is the missing bit. This is the part of the formula that needs to change in order to get the answer you want. In our formula we have an 8 and a 6. Clearly, the 6 is the number that has to go. So the cell that needs to change is B2. So go ahead and enter B2 in the "By Changing Cell" text box. Your dialogue box should now look like this:
Click OK when your dialogue box looks like the one above. Excel will then Set the cell B3 to the Value of 56, and change the figure in cell B2. You'll also get a dialogue box like the one below:
Click OK on the dialogue box. Your new spreadsheet will look like this one:
So Goal Seek has given us the answer we wanted: it is 7 that when times by 8 equals 56. courtesy : http://www.homeandlearn.co.uk/me/mes8p4.html

  • Does Numbers have a Data Analysis function similar to "Goal Seek" in Excel?

Does Apple's Numbers application have a Data Analysis function similar to the "Goal Seek" function in Excel?

No, Numbers doesn't have Goal Seek or anything like it.
You can set up Slider controls to facilitate playing with key variables in your expressions, but Numbers doesn't have any capability to make the adjustments itself.

  • Does the latest version of Numbers have anything like Excel's goal seek?

Does the latest version of Numbers have anything like Excel's goal seek?  I frequently use goal seek to solve non-algebraic equasions for an unknown.  Thanks.

I went through the installation where the bar shows the percentages downloaded and installed. Once it shows 100% it asks me to click Finish. I do. Then I go to yahoo to check and it continues to show that the plugin is missing and that I need to download Adobe Flash which I thought that I just did. Am I missing something in terms of installing??

  • Equivalent of Excel Goal Seek in Numbers

I'm looking for the equivalent of Excel Goal Seek in Numbers for iPad. Any thoughts on finding or creating this?

Numbers does not have a goal seek feature.
You can often create a similar effect by using a slider that you manually sweep.

  • Excel Tools Goal Seek Equivalent?

I looking for an action in Numbers that would act like excel's "goal seek", where you select a result cell, designate a seek value, and then select a "change" cell, push go and get a nice quick iteration.
Example, you have a complex equation that pulls input from several cells and displays an answer in a single cell. With Goal Seek in Excel, I would designate the "Results" cell, enter the answer I'm seeking, then designate one of the cells that drive the equation, and press go. Excel would quickly give the "x" that produces "y" in my complex equation. An iterative equation solver.
Can't find one in version 08, maybe version 09?
    Any clues appreciated,

someone just asked me on another board for this same thing. If this isn't the same person, I posted a workaround in '08 more than a year ago on another web site. It isn't perfect, but it worked ok. you have to customize ti for your situation and equations of course.

  • Goal Seek problem - Excel 2013

I am attempting to use Goal Seek for the first time today and I'm not sure what I am doing incorrectly.  I'm including a screen shot of my setup.  I am attempting to change the highlighted box of $15.51 to zero by changing "g"
I have included the "answer key" of doing this by hand, which should change my growth rate to 5.90015% using the Goal Seek. However, I'm getting -70,000+%
Any idea what I'm doing wrong?
    Here is my original data:
    Sales0  (S0)
    325
    Growth rate (g)
    21.54%
    Change in Sales
    70
    Sales1
    (S1)
    395
    Total assets (A0)
    122.5
    Spontaneous Liabilities
    (L0)      17.5
    Net income
    9.8
    Profit Margin (PM)
    3.00%
    Payout Ratio (POR)
    40.00%
My first calculation is to find AFN (for those familiar with financial forecasting)
    A0/S0*(S1-S0)  = $26.38
    L0/S0*(S1-S0) = $3.77
    PM*S1*(1-POR) = 7.11
    = AFN of $15.51
My next step is to change AFN to zero while changing "growth".  However, when I use Goal Seek, I'm getting a number that is completely off .   The correct answer is 5.90015%   (my answer is -7227603.11%)
    Can anyone help?

No, Numbers doesn't have Goal Seek or anything like it.

  • Excel Services and User Specific Data

    Hello,
I am new to Excel Services.
I want to retrieve data to Excel Services (at this phase, to prevent it in Excel Web Part) from SQL Server.
The SQL might hold big amount of data so I think about fetching only the data relevant to each user.
I configured a pivot table over a data connection with Windows Authentication, and when I refresh it I get the following message "The data connection uses windows authentication and user credentials could not be delegated". I think the Windows
Authentication is required in order to pass information about the user to the SQL query so it can filter for the relevant data.
    My questions are as follows:
Can I pass user information from the Excel model file to the SQL server in a way different from Windows Authentication?
Alternatively, if I retrieve the data unfiltered to Excel Services, and filter only the pivot, will I get the same performance?
Would the answers change if Excel and/or SharePoint version is changed from 2010 to 2013 or Online/365?
    Any other idea?
    Regards,
    Barak

    Hi,
According to your post, my understanding is that you wanted to filter Excel Services Data.
You can you can connect the Excel Web Access Web Part to a Current User Web Part or a Filter Web Part to pass user information. Please refer to:
    Personalized Data in Excel Services
You will get the same performance.
You can connect the Excel Web Access Web Part to a Current User Web Part in all versions.
    More information:

  • Goal Seek

I've recently started using numbers and wanted to use the goal seek function that is available in excel work sheets under tools .
Is there any function within numbers that can perform the same task ie If you have an answer cell that that has a formula that is a multiplication of two cells and you know the answer you want from the operation and you can get to your target figure by varying one of the multipier cells.
Any help gratefully received, I have n't got much hair left to tear out( I did n't a t the start but thats beside the point)
    Thanks

No need to tear your hairs.
It would be more useful to enter the Help and search for the keyword "functions" which would give you a list of available functions.
It seems that some users wrongly imagine that Help of User Guide are written to fill Hard disks. The truth is that they are built to give use useful informations.

  • Goal-seeking with Hyperion

Has anyone had success using Hyperion to goal-seek as one does in Excel? We have tried using the LOOP statement in a business rule, with target dimensions and change dimensions as run-time parameters. It seems simple enough, cycle through the database checking to see if aggregated amounts reach a target when a zero-level value is changed over and over.
I am surprised that, with the great popularity of goal-seek in Excel, that Hyperion does not offer this as a delivered function. Planning and analysis requires it.

    Hi,
Here is a lengthy description of how goal seek is implemented in Essbase.
    http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E10530_01/doc/epm.931/html_esb_dbag/dcacsexs.htm
Although running certain things in Excel is simpler, with a little care, essbase provides much more than what Excel does.

  • Unable to view Report Filters on Excel Services web part

I have an Excel 2010 file with Pivot Charts. I want users to be able to select filters for the pivot charts to modify their chart/report as needed.
This excel file with Pivot Charts is visualized using Excel Services Web Part on SharePoint 2010.
My problem: The Pivot Chart Filters do not appear on SharePoint. They are available when the file is opened in Excel 2010.
Is there a way to have chart/report filters show up on SharePoint (excel services web part)?

As per the article below it seems that Pivot Chart Filtering is not available with Excel services. The article reads
"PivotChart reports are not interactive when displayed in a browser. You cannot filter a PivotChart report directly, but if you interact
with the PivotTable report that supplies data for the PivotChart report, the PivotChart report updates accordingly. This means if you filter the PivotTable report, the PivotChart report updates to show the filtered data set."
    Unsupported Features in Excel Services
Though this article is for MOSS 2007 but if you read the following article for SP 2010 it reads "All other unsupported features continue
to behave as they do in Office SharePoint Server 2007 for Excel Services."

  • Excel Services 2013 Bug - Automatic or Periodic Data Refreshes Doesnt Update

    All,
I have heard from other colleagues that there is a problem with SP2013 Excel Services Automatic Refresh.  Specifically, when you set the data connection properties to
Refresh data when opening a file, no error is generated upon open, but it DOES NOT refresh the spreadsheet with new data.
Manual Refresh First.  What I did to test this was configure an AS tabular model with AdventureWorksDW as the data source.  Loaded the AdventureWorks Tabular project.  Created an ODC pointing to the resulting cube instance.
(Made all of the required Excel Services configurations.) Then pointed a workbook to this data source to populate a Pivot Table.  Saved it to SharePoint in a trusted location.  ODC saved to SharePoint in a trusted data connection library.  Finally,
I configured the connection properties to NOT Refresh data when opening the file.  Saved it.  Go to my in browser Excel Services file, and click
Data | Refresh All Connections.  WORKS!  Great.
Next up: Automatic Data Refresh.  I made a copy of the same workbook.  Connected to the same data connection file.  Went into the properties of the connection on the copied workbook and checked
Refresh data when opening the file.  Saved.  Updated relational data in database.  Reprocessed the tabular model.  Re-opened the Automatic refresh workbook.  Numbers stay the same.
I've tried also setting Refresh every setting on
Usage tab of Connection Properties dialog to low number.  No change.  Tried reducing the Excel Services External Data Cache Lifetime auto refresh setting to 10 seconds.  Nothing, no change.  Nothing seems to work to get Auto refresh
working.  Manual refresh works great.  Has anyone else seen this bug?  Is there a hot fix?  Anyone know if there is something else to try?
UPDATE: In the ULS log, what we see if the following line:
BaseWorkbook.PrepareConnectionsAsync: Refresh skipped. Could not find the data connection name - defaulting to previous state. sessionId=..., dataconnection=
Note: the dataconnection value at the end is empty.

    Hi,
Thank you for your question. I am trying to involve someone familiar with this topic to further look at this issue. There might be some time delay. Appreciate your patience. Thank you for your understanding and support.

  • Excel Services Refresh method not working in Sharepoint 2013

    Hi,
In our application, we open excel services workbook in sharepoint 2013. Using sessionid of the workbook, we called Refresh and CalculateWorkbook methods in that order. After Calculateworkbook method, I see time stamps in LastUpdatedTime for each connection
in 'Connections' tab of excel workbook. When Refresh method is called again after CalculateWorkbook  method, the LastUpdatedTime for the connections becomes blank.
When I use sharepoint 2010, the temstamp is not becoming blank after refresh.
I think due to this reason we see blank data on our reports. Can somebody tell whether there is a problem with Refresh method in sharepoint 2013? Or is there somebody facing problem with excel services in sharepoint 2013? Any pointers can help.
    Thanks,
    Pranava

    Hi,
For your issue, verify if Excel files are rendered by Office Web Apps:
When Office Web Apps is responsible for the rendering the URL will look something like this:
    https://server/_layouts/15/WopiFrame.aspx?sourcedoc=/Documents/excel.xlsx&….
And when Excel Calc is rendering the document it should look like the following:
    https://server/_layouts/15/xlviewer.aspx?id=/Documents/excel.xlsx&…
Here is an article about how to enable pdf preview with OWA:
    http://www.wictorwilen.se/sharepoint-2013-enabling-pdf-previews-with-office-web-apps-2013-march-2013-update
Besides, refer to configure Office Web Apps for SharePoint 2013:

  • Problem while refreshing the data for the second time using excel services in sharepoint 2013...

    Hi,
I have migrated my Sharepoint from 2010 to 2013.I am able to get the data at the first time of refresh when I click on refresh for the second time I am getting the empty the sheet.
below find the flow of refresh
    First Refresh
On Click of refresh open the workbook with excel services and return the session id.
Using that session I am invoking RefrehAsync method of excel services
After refresh completed I am setting the calculation of workbook as automatic(to calculate the formulas) using the same session id
After setting the calculation as Automatic I am setting the calculation type as full(recalculate) using the same session id.
Now I am able to see the data
    Second Refresh
After clicking on refresh instead of opening the workbook I am using the session id(already opened workbook) and setting the calculation type as manual
I am following the same process from refresh(RefreshAsync) as I have followed in first refresh.
This time my formulas are not getting calculated because of that I am not able to see the data.
Could you please let me know that am I missing anything here?
Is this know issue in Sharepoint2013 excel services as same code is working fine with Sharepoint2010.
If I close the workbook(session id null) and opens(new session id) for all the refreshes it is working and I am able to see the data.
