Good Books on AS3 specifically?

Im getting around pretty good in flash but on the AS3 side of things Im just starting to recognize bits and pieces of what the code is doing. I understand variables functions, event handlers ect but I am having the hardest time learning to think in code I think part of that is I still dont totally understand the stucture, classes and potential sequences. I guess my question is for reccomendations books, videos websites regarding AS3 specifically that will help me think in code better beyond just knowing the basic functions, arrays, variables etc.
Thanks!

For ActionScript 3.0 specifically I would recommend 'Essential ActionScript 3.0' by Colin Moock.
The Adobe TV website is a fairly useful source for video based learning material -
http://tv.adobe.com/product/flash/
Michael James Williams has a blog based tutorial for learning important elements of as3, with an end project forming a Simple Avoider Game, he also provides help throughout the chapters. Very good tutorial.

  • Searching for a good book about [Arch Linux]

    Hello friends,
I'm here stuck with Windows 8, making a couple of tests about installing Arch Linux in VMware Workstation, if it succeeds, I'll move to Arch completely. My question is: Is there a good book about Arch (installation, maintenance, best practices, security, and so on)? I tried "Arch Linux Environment set-up How-To", but unfortunately, it wasn't what I expected.
    I'm a little confused about UEFI + GRUB2 + GPT/MBR but I think I'll dominate it soon...
    My system:
    [PROCESSOR] >> Intel® Core™ i7-3840QM (8M Cache, up to 3.80 GHz)
[GRAPHICS] >> Dual Nvidia GeForce GTX 680M GPU With 4GB GDDR5 Video Memory (SLi)
    [RAM] >> 16GB DDR3 SDRAM 1600MHz
    [SSD] >> OCZ Vertex 4 (256GB)
[HDD] >> Seagate Momentus XT Hybrid (750GB)
I wonder in how many seconds the system will boot up...

@op  As others have mentioned, do not seek out knowledge from a book.  There has been quite a few shifts in Archlinux, specifically to uefi and systemd.  There are a few starters for your concern.
    https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Un … _Interface
    https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/UEFI_Bootloaders
    https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Beginners'_Guide/Installation
Other then that, there is the forums and a quick search will land you on a goldmine of knowledge.  Great idea to start it up in a vmware, although it will not require the uefi boot, but it will still get you a bit more familiar with the install process and iron out some basic questions.  Good luck!

  • Good book on ABAP for BW

    Hi,
If anyone can suggest a good book to buy covering ABAP for BW. Basically, decent ABAP coverage with focus on BW.
    Any info is appreciated.
    rgds.
    vinod

    Hallo Vinod,
the book of Egger et al. is ok, but it is not specific to ABAP, it deals with the hole extraction process (extractors for master and transaction data like the COPA extractor or the LIS extractor). The SAP Essential booklet of Dirk Herzog covers all diferent kinds of user exits and BADIs in the BW context like the variables exit EXIT_SAPLRRS0_001 or the new extraction BAdI RSU5_SAPI_BADI. I would recommend the second one for your purpose, if you don't confine yourself to programm ABAPs for transfer and update rules.
    Only my two cents...

  • Good book about Linux?

    Hi,
I've been using Linux for 5 years or so, always using a graphical desktop.
I know many commands, like ls, sudo, mv, pacman, etc...
I can work with Linux terminal fine when having a graphical browser open that can help me out here and there with what commands exactly to type (copypaste from browser to terminal window actually).
But when I'm in a non graphical Archlinux (or Linux in general), then everything is hard for me. And when something in Archlinux breaks, then I can't fix it. I'm unable on my own to get KDE working after a pacman -Syu if there was something that broke it, for example. I can use irssi and ask help, but that's awkward.
Having to install something without pacman, is always a difficult adventure if the simple "./configure", "make", "make install" doesn't work.
Using the command line tar, zip, and similar commands are hell for me, because they have SO many flags and the simple action of simply uncompressing a file require many far fetched flags.
Also, I see that things like wget and such are very handy and useful, but I don't know them in enough detail.
Also, I can develop the most complex applications you can dream of in C and C++, but I can't write a shell script.
So I hope the above describes somewhat my knowledge level of Linux. There is some knowledge, but not enough.
Given that knowledge level, what could be a good book for me to read and/or to have next to me when working with Linux in a terminal-only environment?
    Thanks!

I really like Linux in a Nutshell: A Desktop Quick Reference from O'Reilly. 900+ pages of pure bliss.
    It's here at Amazon.fr:
    http://www.amazon.fr/Linux-Nutshell-Ell … 625&sr=8-1
    and here at Amazon.co.uk:
    http://www.amazon.co.uk/Linux-Nutshell- … 674&sr=8-1
As the title says, it's a reference guide, not a tutorial or instructional guide per se. But for someone who's already been running Linux for a good while, you'd probably find it very useful to have at hand, as I do.
Don't order The Linux Kernel in a Nutshell by mistake, as I did, unless that's your specific area of interest. The covers look very much alike on booksellers' websites, and the less expensive price of the kernel book made me go for it. Fortunately, Amazon has an excellent return policy. (Pardon the free advertising, mods.)

  • Good book for extension building

I want to build my own extensions on Dreamweaver CS 4 but so far I looked I've only see books for Dreamweaver 8 or MX2004. Does anyone know a good book to begin with?
I think that by writing my own extensions I can save a lot of time in the future..

I'm not aware of any recent book that specifically covers extensions, but the basics of extension building haven't changed much in a number of versions of Dreamweaver, so a MX04 or 8 labeled book should be fine for getting started.  Also, I beleive that some of the general Dreamweaver books provide a little coverage of customizing Dreamweaver. You'd also do well to read all of the extending documentation:
    http://help.adobe.com/en_US/Dreamweaver/10.0_Extending/index.html
    http://help.adobe.com/en_US/Dreamweaver/10.0_API_Ref/index.html
However, for many folks, using Snippets is a "good enough" solution to save time.

  • Good book for learning pl/sql quickly

Please suggest me a good book that covers all aspects of pl/sql in depth.
    Thanks in advance. :-)

A good book for learning PL/SQL quickly?
That is not a function of the book. That is a function of your ability to learn and understand new concepts. No book can make you learn "faster".
Also, even before trying to learn PL/SQL, there are concepts and fundamentals to understand. Specifically:
    - [url http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B19306_01/server.102/b14220/toc.htm]Oracle® Database Concepts
    - [url http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B19306_01/appdev.102/b14251/toc.htm]Oracle® Database Application Developer's Guide - Fundamentals
    - [url http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B19306_01/appdev.102/b14261/toc.htm]Oracle® Database PL/SQL User's Guide and Reference
And after that, also have a look at Application Developer's Guide - Large Objects, Application Developer's Guide - Object-Relational Features. Not to mention the SQL Reference and the PL/SQL Packages and Types Reference guides.

There are many excellent articles, whitepapers, and books that describe all facets of XML technology. Many of these are available on the world wide web. The following are some of the most useful resources we have found:

  • A good book on Unix (from a DBA perspective) is needed

    Hi everyone,
I am familiar with several Unix OS on a user level. However, when dealing with Oracle issues I often find that they are interrelated with OS issues. Can anyone recommend a good book on fundamentals of Unix (or more specifically, Solaris) system administration with some coverage of performance troubleshooting?
    Thanks in advance!

I've just learned to test every statement before relying on it, unless I know the actual author personally. And that should be true for any author - Tom Kyte and Jonathan Lewis encourage verifying nearly everything, in part because even simple environment changes can impact the result.

  • A good book on design patterns?

Hi there. Just wondering if anyone could recommend a good book on design patterns, for someone who's relatively experienced at the nuts and bolts of programming in a few languages, but hasn't really considered design patterns before? Someone recommended Gamma et al's, 'Design patterns: elements of reusable object-oriented software' to me, but it is perhaps a little dated now. Any thoughts?

Surprisingly, no one posted the link to the Sun J2EE Pattern blueprints:
    http://java.sun.com/blueprints/corej2eepatterns/index.html
I also liked the O'Reilly publication "J2EE Design Patterns"
They are specific to J2EE architecture, but there's a lot of reuse available even if that's not the architecture you're working with.

  • Cable isp. some good book/link

    Hi everybody.
I was studying cable isp infrastructure. I am looking for some good book on cable isp or a link. describing the the communication between cmts and cable modem.
    I appreciate your help
Thanks and have a great weekend.

    Hi Sarah,
As you may have seen already, Broadband Cable is quite an extensive world. The best reference is to review the Cablelabs DOCSIS specifications. You can find them at http://www.cablelabs.com/
Regarding the communication between CM and CMTS, it's not clear what are you exactly looking for. However, you can find a good diagram here to understand the Cable Modem Initialization process (the process to establish communication between modems and CMTS). The wallchart can be found at http://www.cisco.com/en/US/tech/tk86/tk168/technologies_tech_note09186a0080093d7a.shtml
I hope these will provide you some of the information you are looking for.
    Best regards.

  • Good book or tutorial link for data socket

    hello,
can anyone pls suggest me any good book or tutorial link to study  data socket

Here is a link to the DataSocket overview.  This has a good description of what it is and would be a good beginning reference.

If you are looking for a more technical approach then here is a technical paper about ways that DataSocket can be integrated into a test and measurement system.
    DataSocket Technical Overview
These should be a good starting point for you.  ThomasD also has posted some good resources that you could use to search for more specific questions about DataSocket.
    Hope it helps!

  • Newbie to unix / what are some good books

Hello Unix world, i'm very new to the world of Unix. Just got a sunblade (with solaris 10), and i'm in the process of putting it on a x86 machine also.
What are some good books out there for someone like me? I took linux 101 in college, but thats about it. I''m looking for a book(s)
to take me from the position that i'm currently in (equivalent to my mom on windows), and put in into a position where i will be able to take a few Certifications(solaris 10).

On hands experience is always good, when it comes to books i'ld recommend any O'Reilly book, like their "UNIX in a nutshell", even if i haven't read it myself i suppose its good :-)
I guess i could look around, drop me an email at abrante (at) gmail(dot)com if you want some more ideas about sun specific books.
    Cheers,

  • What's a good book which includes Tiger terminal commands?

Such as those settings not available via the regular GUI (one example - how to force Safari to open links in a new tab automatically instead of a new window - I found the answer to this already btw but I'm sure there are lots more things that I don't know about). I'd like something with a bit more depth than most books I see on the shelf, which only seem to cover the basic GUI stuff and a few very very basic unix commands (which are not specific to OS X anyway).
I know I could look things up here, but I like a good book to read too

    Hi Jonathan
If there is an O'Reilly book on the shelf, grab it. They're the best in my opinion.
    http://www.oreilly.com/catalog/ltigerunix/index.html
    provides an excellent start.
    http://www.oreilly.com/catalog/macxtigerunix/index.html
is an ultimate reference, very comprehensive.
    http://www.oreilly.com/catalog/mactigerian/index.html
concentrates on the BSD Unix Layer of Mac OS X.
    http://www.oreilly.com/catalog/macxtigermm/index.html
is probably not what you want, but it is very useful to someone who wants to get in-depth information using the GUI.
    Not O'Reilly:

all about your beloved Mac OS X kernel. Very technical. By Amit Singh.

  • EJB 3.0 good books ?

    Hi All,
Kindly recommend a few good books for EJB3.x with special emphasis on JPA and Entity Beans.
    Thx

I would have recommended that one also if the OP were less specific. But it is
    a) EJB 3.0
    b) targeting JPA
Although Enteprise Javabeans covers JPA, it does not do so in the depth and clarity that Pro EJB does. But Enteprise Javabeans is the best I know for everything else related to EJB.
