EJB 3.0 good books ?

Hi All,
Kindly recommend a few good books for EJB3.x with special emphasis on JPA and Entity Beans.
Thx

I would have recommended that one also if the OP were less specific. But it is
a) EJB 3.0
b) targeting JPA
Although Enteprise Javabeans covers JPA, it does not do so in the depth and clarity that Pro EJB does. But Enteprise Javabeans is the best I know for everything else related to EJB.

  • Good Books on EJB !`

    Hi All,
I am a newbie to EJB. The only technologies I am comfortable with are JSP, SERVLETS, JRUN. Please guide me with the best/good books on EJB and any other sites that offer good tutorials on EJB and ofcourse list of EJB forums are also appreciated. For EJB, which web server is suggested for a newbie to EJB like me and for advanced EJB users which webserver is suggested ?
    Thanks and Regards,
    rightthinking.

i come from China.I also started with "Mastering Enterprise JavaBeans" (First Edition) from ED Roman.I have read "Professional EJB"(wrox publish) and Enterprise Beans, 2rd Edition by Richard Monson-Haefel.Because you are a beginner, i think it's better for u to start with "Mastering Enterprise JavaBean".Everything about EJB is described particularly in this book. When you master the concept of EJB, you would face questiongs about how to build a system with EJB, you can read "Professional EJB". In "Enterprise Beans", there are much good experiences and original explain, but now you have nothing about EJB, this book maybe be suitable for you.
I'm not good at English. I hope i can give you a little help. These three books are all wonderful!!!

  • Suggest good book for J2EE Design Pattern.

Is there any good book for J2EE Design pattern? I know Head First Design Pattern book, but is focuses oncore java. I want to learn in detail with examples J2EE design pattern.
    Please suggest good books.
    Thanks in advance.
    Rahul.

most j2ee patterns are discredited now. they were mostly workarounds for deficiencies in ejb 1 & 2 specs.
"core j2ee patterns" is your best bet, but take it with a grain of salt.
    better to learn spring, IMO:

  • Good book for J2EE?

I know Servlets and JSP and i want to enhance my knowledge with programming and also i have to learn structs, ajax.
which is the good book for this.

You can log into http://en.wikipedia.org and search for EJB to see what its about, and read about what that article says about the Spring framework.
Although there are many IDEs out there, I recommended Eclipse IDE because its free and is used by a very large number of professional developers. Also, just reading books isn't much help if you don't have a platform to try things out in. Normally when you are starting out in Java, its recommended that you work with java in a text editor and run code on the dos command line to get familiar with that before moving onto an IDE. If you want to read more on this topic, one links is: http://www.javaworld.com/community/node/4587 Sorry, I'm not going to get into an IDE war on which one is best or more likely to be used by a future employer. I haven't come across any unbiased articles that really stand out on this issue.

  • Good books for ooad

    Hello friends
Any one know some good books which will be helpful to build a server side java application.
I am using servlets and JSP's , no EJB.
I need some good standards and advise on creating the classes, passing the data from the backend to front end, etc etx
    Thanks in advance

Hi, Wrox' "Professional JSP 2nd Edition" covers a broad spectrum of
related topics (among them design and architecture). It might at least
be helpful to get you started. But as Wrox passed away, I don't know if
    it's still available...
BTW, many of the design patterns in
    http://java.sun.com/blueprints/corej2eepatterns/Patterns
are also applicable when you don't want to use EJBs.
    Cheers, Carsten

  • Good book recommendation

    hi,
i'll be working on a j2ee project in a few months and wanted to know if someone could please recommend some good books, i've done work with sdk and jsp, but might need to go further into j2ee aside from jsp, could someone please recommend a beginner and intermediate book on it.
    Thank you.

I am working through "Teach Yourself J2EE in 21 Days" (SAMS publishing) which seems pretty good. It includes all the main J2EE stuff - JSPs, database access, EJB (CMP and BMP), JMS etc, and has a lot of example code for you to try out.

  • Any good books on web application using JSP/servlet?

Does anyone know good books on how-to build enterprise web application using JSP/servlet? Aside from the book "Head First JSP/Servlet". Development using Netbeans is more preferrable.

What about the free web server? JBoss or Glassfish or something else? I prefer web/application server that is fully compatible with JEE6 (unlike Tomcat that can't handle EJB). thanksI'm a JBoss user myself, so naturally I would advise that to you if I were ignorant. I'm not however, so in stead I'll tell you to investigate yourself and see which one you prefer. Nobody is going to tell you which one to use as there is no such thing as a 'better' or 'best' server. Just different servers each with different issues.
And the community edition of JBoss has had many issues in the past (because Red Hat of course wants to advise you to go to the enterprise platform which ain't cheap), but JBoss 5.1 was a rock solid piece of software that I have had zero problems with (after reading the odd forum or two). JBoss 6 builds on top of JBoss 5.1 and provides the full JEE6 web profile; this means it does NOT provide a certified 'full' JEE6 stack yet. This means nothing however as all the services you may need in an enterprise application are already there.
BTW: for simple servlet programming, don't neglect Apache Tomcat. Its a lightweight server that just works.

  • Suggestion for a Good Book

    Hi,
Could someone suggest me a good book covering core java security (not J2EE)?. I'm looking for a book that covers all security related APIs that are part of Java 2 SDK 1.3.x + JSSE + JCE + JAAS or Java 2 SDK 1.4.x.
Any help would be highly appreciated.
    Thanks.

I've a book called "Professional Java Security",
by Jess Garms and Daneil Somerfield, published by Wrox press.
I've used it to dip my toes into the Java Cryptography extension, and
it was very good. I got a TripleDES encryption utility working reasonably easy.
Also covers JCA, JCE, JAAS, JSSE, SSL and E-Commerce.
    regards,
    Owen

  • GW 6.5 - A suggestion for a good book

    Hello people !
I'm CNE in Brazil and I would like to know a good book to implement GroupWise 6.5.1 im my server that it will work with Border Manager 6.5 SP3 (Small Business Suite Starter Pack).
    Thanks in advance.

These fourms are focused on developer issues, you will find that Novell has a
different set of forums for general support, which have a lot more people answering
    questions.
Say that take a look at Novell's own book

  • What's a good book for getting started?

I've been doing web design in HTML and ColdFusion for almost 3 years. It's clear that ColdFusion is on it's way out and I need to learn J2EE/Java/JSP etc. I have a few questions:
Java is a term I've heard associated with C++ and other types of programming as well as Web design. Are the Java/C++ Java and the Web Java basically the same type of language? Is the Web Java and JavaScript the same thing? I'm very confused!
What is a good book for getting these types of questions answered and getting started in J2EE/Java/JSP? There are quite a few variations of script languages out there and I want to make sure I learn the right stuff, ie the stuff that employers are going to be needing.
    Thanks!

Here is a free online version of a good book:
    http://pdf.coreservlets.com/Core-Servlets-and-JSP.pdf
Print it off or read from the screen. Otherwise, there are several good Java books out there. What I would do is go to the bookstore and thumb through a few books. Depending on what type of book you want (example based or theory) find the books that you think would satisfy your learning style. Write down the names and authors, go home and buy them used online at Amazon for tremendous discounts. This way you can buy several versus just one.

  • Searching for a good book about [Arch Linux]

    Hello friends,
I'm here stuck with Windows 8, making a couple of tests about installing Arch Linux in VMware Workstation, if it succeeds, I'll move to Arch completely. My question is: Is there a good book about Arch (installation, maintenance, best practices, security, and so on)? I tried "Arch Linux Environment set-up How-To", but unfortunately, it wasn't what I expected.
    I'm a little confused about UEFI + GRUB2 + GPT/MBR but I think I'll dominate it soon...
    My system:
    [PROCESSOR] >> Intel® Core™ i7-3840QM (8M Cache, up to 3.80 GHz)
[GRAPHICS] >> Dual Nvidia GeForce GTX 680M GPU With 4GB GDDR5 Video Memory (SLi)
    [RAM] >> 16GB DDR3 SDRAM 1600MHz
    [SSD] >> OCZ Vertex 4 (256GB)
[HDD] >> Seagate Momentus XT Hybrid (750GB)
I wonder in how many seconds the system will boot up...

@op  As others have mentioned, do not seek out knowledge from a book.  There has been quite a few shifts in Archlinux, specifically to uefi and systemd.  There are a few starters for your concern.
    https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Un … _Interface
    https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/UEFI_Bootloaders
    https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Beginners'_Guide/Installation
Other then that, there is the forums and a quick search will land you on a goldmine of knowledge.  Great idea to start it up in a vmware, although it will not require the uefi boot, but it will still get you a bit more familiar with the install process and iron out some basic questions.  Good luck!
