Google Reader fills js heap?

I was reading about about:memory and the DMD earlier today, then funnily enough FF crashed twice tonight while I was reading intellectually stimulating articles through Google Reader (IE browsing pictures with stupid puns). Unfortunately when I restarted FF just now it seems to have wiped the clipboard in which I had the output of about:memory. Overall usage was about 1GB (I have 2GB physical), most of this (~800MB) was consumed by various compartments of JS heap. Images only held ~300MB and this dropped to ~80 after a minimize heap operation. The JS heap was mostly untouched.
I also had "Better Google Reader" plugin installed, also GreaseMonkey and Stylish enabled. Maybe it's one of them.

All:  I use the Adobe Reader plugin a lot for work. I have found a workaround to the new Chrome version 42 update that has removed the NPAPI plugins, including Adobe Reader.
In the Chrome browser URL, type "chrome://flags". Find the flag called "Enable NPAPI Mac, Windows" and click "Enable".
Then, go back to your plugins in Chrome, "chrome://plugins". Make sure the Adobe Reader plugin is Enabled and the Chrome PDF Viewer is disabled. Everything should work as it did before.

  • Google Reader's right frame (where all of the headlines and content goes) is not visible in Firefox (10.0.1) on my Mac (10.6.8). How do I fix this? (It works fine in Safari)

As the question says, I cannot read the content in the right frame in Google Reader. This was also a problem when I was using Firefox 9.0.1. It was definitely not a problem prior to the Christmas holidays, so I don't know if it has something to do with new updates either Firefox or Google has made (I posted on their forum as well).

Both your Conduit Engine, particularly, and Alexa Toolbar are known troublemakers. I would advise Googling both for advice and removal instructions.
I'm not sure it is a good idea to have both Foxit and Adobe Reader.

  • With FF15 on Win7, when I click a Google Reader link (that open in a new tab when clicked, target="_blank" style), the new tab opens for a second, then closes.

The tab will not crash if I right-click, open in new tab, or middle click. Other sites with target="_blank" seem to be ok with left click (Google+ links for example). But Google Reader links seem to be completely broken.

Seems to be an adblock plus issue in my case. When I disable adblock it never happens. When I enable it this occurs on most links on google, twitter or reddit. Somehow seems them as pop ups I guess. Probably will have to fiddle with adblock plus.

  • Is possible in acrobat reader fill in and save interactive PDF created with LiveCycle Designer?

is possible in acrobat reader fill in and save interactive PDF created with LiveCycle Designer?

    Hi,
Only if the form has been Reader Enabled before it is sent out to the user with Reader.
There are two ways of Reader Enabling the form. One using Acrobat Standard v9 or Acrobat Professional v8 (both have license restrictions). The other is to use LC Reader Extensions ES2, which is a server product (additional costs).
    Some info here:
    http://www.assuredynamics.com/index.php/2010/11/using-livecycle-forms-in-acrobat-and-reade r/
A search of the forums for "Reader Extensions" or "Reader Enable" will give more information.
    Hope that helps,

  • Images are not showing in Google Reader for some websites, others are fine

Some blogs show images in Google Reader, some do not. I can click on the blog subject and go to that blog directly in another tab and I see the images just fine, just not in the reader.

    See:
    * http://kb.mozillazine.org/Images_or_animations_do_not_load
    * You can see the permissions for the domain in the current tab in Tools > Page Info > Permissions
    * You can check the exceptions in Tools > Options > Content: Load Images > Exceptions
    * You can check the Tools > Page Info > Media tab for blocked images (scroll through all the images)
There are also extensions (Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) that can block images.

  • How do I make sure that google reader launches whenever I click on an RSS feed icon (to add a new feed)?

Right now, when I click to add a new rss feed (using the icon up in the search bar), it automatically launches yahoo, which drives me crazy. I want to CHANGE the setting so that it automatically launches google reader. Please advise!

    See http://lifehacker.com/392287/set-firefox-3-to-launch-gmail-for-mailto-links
Set the pref gecko.handlerService.allowRegisterFromDifferentHost to true on the about:config page.
Run this javascript code via copy and paste to the location bar and press the Enter key to run the code.
    <code>navigator.registerProtocolHandler('mailto','https://mail.google.com/mail/?extsrc=mailto&url=%s','Gmail');</code>
Do not forget to reset the pref gecko.handlerService.allowRegisterFromDifferentHost to false after you have added Gmail.
To open the ''about:config'' page, type '''about:config''' in the location (address) bar and press the Enter key, just like you type the url of a website to open a website.
If you see a warning then you can confirm that you want to access that page.

  • Flash player not working in Google Reader

My flash installation appears to be fine since youtube works perfectly along with any other website that uses flash. Here is my issue:
When read an article that has an enclosed (embedded) mp3 the typical flash player that google reader uses is not showing up. It should look like the player on this page: http://www.labnol.org/internet/design/html-embed-mp3-songs-podcasts-music-in-blogs-website s/2232/ However it does not. It should be noted that the player on that page displays and works correctly for me. Google readers flash player used to work perfectly as well but I dont know what happend.
Issues: If I right click where its supposed to be I get options for quicktime. I uninstalled quicktime to see if it would resort to displaying the normal flash player. It did not. Instead it prompted me to run the "windows media player add-on".
Now when I open up an article with an mp3 embedded in it I see a windows media player like bar which autoplays but no sound comes from it. Nor does it show the length of the clip.
Now this might be a nonsensical idea, I'm not sure since I'm not a Flash pro, but if the MIME type of the embedded object is:
type="application/x-shockwave-flash" why would it open with an embedded windows media player instead of the flash player?
    Here is the full html:
    <embed width="400" height="27" pluginspage="http://www.macromedia.com/go/getflashplayer" src="http://www.google.ca/reader/ui/3247397568-audio-player.swf?audioUrl=http%3A%2F%2Fpodcast.c bc.ca%2Fwr%2Fwr_20100110.mp3" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" FlashVars="playerMode=embedded" wmode="transparent" bgcolor="#ffffff" quality="best" allowFullScreen="true" allowScriptAccess="never" className="audio-player-embed"/>
Could it be the case of the file types (associations) for flash being mixed up?? Certainly I don't want all mp3's to be opened with flash but in this case I do. Or is the windows media player capable of being a flash player? It said it was using a flash codec. I've even tried using the reset option but with no luck.
I should point out that I have firefox and chrom installed and it works fine in both of them. It's just irritating that it wont work in IE. I have IE 8 running Vista.

    <embed width="400" height="27" pluginspage="http://www.macromedia.com/go/getflashplayer" src="http://www.google.ca/reader/ui/3247397568-audio-player.swf?audioUrl=http%3A%2F%2 Fpodcast.cbc.ca%2Fwr%2Fwr_20100110.mp3" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" FlashVars="playerMode=embedded" wmode="transparent" bgcolor="#ffffff" quality="best" allowFullScreen="true" allowScriptAccess="never" className="audio-player-embed"/>
If I click on the http://www.google.com/etc it opens fine in my browser.
Looks like on your system only the".mp3"-part is recognized. A bug in Google Reader?
What happens if you disable Windows Media Player?

  • Google Reader Errors in 64-bit Safari 4.0.3

Since the update to Snow Leopard and moving to a 64-bit version of Safari (Version 4.0.3 (6531.9)), I have been experiencing a script error in GOOGLE READER (http://www.google.com/reader/).
After several minutes of browsing, I receive an error message stating "Oops…an error occurred. Please try again in a few seconds." After the error, I can view currently loaded content, but attempts to view any additional content results in an empty folder and the following error: " "The feed being requested cannot be found." As a result, I am logged out of Google Reader and must log-in again. Interestingly, I am only logged out at the Google Reader site and can access other Google web properties without logging in.
I do not experience this error using Camino or FF, only Safari.
I've tried emptying the browser cache, restarting Safari and even resetting Safari. I've even tried using a secure page (https) instead of the traditional Google Reader URL. None of these have any effect. Error seems to be specific only to Google Reader on 64-bit Safari.
    Any thoughts? Suggestions?

"The feed being requested cannot be found."
If it happens in both 32-bit and 64-bit mode, but not another browser, that would seem to implicate the HTML and/or JavaScript being used by Google Reader is somehow incompatible with Safari, so it's not a Safari or Snow Leopard issue, unless you didn't have this same problem with the same feed in a previous version of Safari.
I note from your signature that you are using an older version of OSX.
Yes, but that makes no difference. Safari 4 is Safari 4, regardles of which version of the OS it's running on.

  • Is there a good Google Reader app yet?

Like Byline or Reeder for the iPhone.
Specifically, one like Byline that caches full web pages for offline viewing.
    Thanks.

i have tried many of the rss readers on my iphone and I prefer the google reader mobile webpage. Just go to reader.google.com in safari and create a weblink on the home screen.

  • Safari 4 tabs do not display unread counts for GMail and Google Reader

To reproduce this, do the following:
    1. Create a bookmark for either GMail or Google Reader
    2. Click on the bookmark under Safari to load either site (make sure it has at least on unread item)
The text in the tab title will not display the unread count. Instead, it displays either "GMail" or "Google Reader". Firefox displays the unread counts for both sites in the tab's title text as follows: "Gmail - Inbox(2) - <email addr>", "Google Reader (2)".
This is the one of the main reasons why I will continue to use Firefox over Safari 4. Displaying the unread counts in the tab titles allows me quickly glance at the browser's window with both sites loaded in separate tabs to see if there are any unread items.

I was able to fix the problem by disabling Gmail Labs (you can always reenable them again).
    http://mail.google.com/mail/?labs=0.
Or go to Settings-Labs and you'll notice a link at the very top asking you if you want to kill all the labs if it breaks something on gmail...there's an escape hatch.

  • RSS Feed error in Google Reader

Like a number of people I have been having some publishing issues with iWeb since the introduction of MobileMe. I've managed to solve a number of them, but I still have a lingering issue.
I'm finally able to subscribe to my rss feed on my site, and it displays in Google Reader, but if you try and click on the blog entry in Google Reader it will not take you to my site. Instead it says the page cannot be found.
When it tries to redirect to my blog, from google reader, it adds "www" into the address. However, since setting up the personal domain I no longer have "www" in the address. I thought I had made all the correct adjustments in my MobileMe account and with Go Daddy. However, I still have this one lingering issue with Google Reader.
Does anyone have any suggestions or ideas on how to fix this? Am I missing something simple? Or, am I just wasting everyone's time...
    Thanks.

What is your web page? The RSS Feed button is not necessary to click on in Firefox. Mainly, you will see an icon either in the address bar that looks like a satellite ( it also depennds on the theme you use) or on the bottom right hand side that lets you know there is a live feed for the page. When you click on that icon, you have the option to subscribe.

If you use firefox you'll see what I mean. However, I have the same problem but I just narrowed it down to my webhosting company, so I am switching companies soon. Just got two new domains and will be transferring this one to them.

  • Google Reader feeds will not open or refresh.

I've been using Google Reader on Firefox for years and it suddenly is not functioning properly. I had not made any changes to my computer, or installed new programs. Reader continues to work on IE. Feeds won't open or display; when they do it often freezes. The site lags considerably.

I do no understand "flash on the screen"; could it be http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2716529 ?

  • Since 2.0.2 Google Reader can't keep me logged on

    Hi,
I use Google's Reader webapp for reading my rss subscribed feeds on my desktop and iPhone 3G. This used to work great but since I updated my iPhone to v2.0.2 I have to log on to Google Reader every time I open the bookmark. Before 2.0.2 my login credentials where saved in my iPhone.
Anyone else sees this issue with google sites or other webapps?!
    Anyone has a solution?!
    Kind regards,

Are you using a windows XP machine?
if so check to make sure that there are no traces of windows media player or windows media player runtime on the XP machine, go to control panel then add/remove programmes and lok for windows media player and windows media player runtime.
remove them, one at a time ( it will go through a rollback to winfdows media player 0) and re-start your p.c after removing each item.
