GPIB/SCPI Browse File Path

Is there a way to browse the file path of an instrument connected via GPIB?  From my experience, only the file system on the local controlling machine is accessible in this manner.  I will have files saved within a folder on a PNA but the file name will have a variable characters in the name based upon the date and saved version -- so from an automated testing standpoint, I won't necessarily know the entire file name during execution.  If I could using a browse file command to locate and store the file name before running the code, the script would be more streamlined.
An alternative method would be to search the known folder for the beginning of the file name string.  I know the List Folder function could do this for files stored locally, but again, this does not access the file system of the PNA controlled via GPIB.
Any suggestions would be helpful.  Thank you.

The information I was looking for there was how to save certain file information over GPIB (once I found the PNA help site it became trivial as they have that general information on their site).  In this instance I am trying to find ways to manipulate files and file structures over GPIB similar to the methods available in the File I/O functions list on LabVIEW.  Specifically, I want to search a folder for a file on the PNA and open it without knowing the complete file name (I will know the beginning string but the last couple digits will vary based on a variety of information).  If this was on the local machine, I could use List Folder and string Match Pattern functions to find the exact file name, however, I have not seen a way to do this or something comparable with the SCPI commands.  I understand this can be quite instrument specific but thought there may be a more general way to do this.  I may have to rethink how I'm structuring this portion of my code somehow to avoid this.

    No one an idea? Especially for the "Browse file" dialog?

  • How to force the File Path Control Browser button to the RT Target instead of the host machine?

    I am building an application on a RT PXI system, and for one of the functions I would like the user to be able to use the browser button of the File Path Control to choose a directory on the PXI. However the browser button seems to only want open a file on the host PC, even though the application is fully deployed on the target. Note that I am controlling the PXI from a host PC.
    If anyone has any suggestions that would be great. Thanks.

    Hi,
    Unfortunately, there is not a VI to do this. Are you browsing to these files from your host VI? In order to access the files on your PXI RT target, you'll need to FTP in and browse to them that way. You could programmatically do this, but there is not a simple VI to do so.

  • File browse : How to keep the file path in the file browse field?

    Hello,
    I have
    1) file browse field called P2_FILE_PATH.
    2) a select list with submit : P2_REGION
    If i upload some file d:\abc.gif , then select some region in the P2_REGION,
    P2_FILE_PATH will become empty. But in the session, i can find the blob value. but not the "d:\abc.gif "
    Using the following script I could capture the value of P2_FILE_PATH in a field
    P2_TEST.
    onload="javascript:document.getElementById(P2_FILE_PATH').value = document.getElementById('P2_TEST').value;"
    P2_TEST contains d:\abc.gif .
    How to retain the file path, though some other field is selected and submitted?
    Thanks in advance.
    Regards,
    Archana

    Hello Archana,
    You can't do what you want because of some HTML security restrictions – nothing to do with APEX. As you found out, You can capture the value of this item. You can't set it. After submitting the page, the browser is the one to clear the item.
    The only workaround is to work with AJAX and not submit the page until the end of the user input phase.

    Hi Shaik,
    Just copy and paste:
    Here is the code for retrieving list of files contained within specific Application server directory(SAP).
    PARAMETER: p_fdir type pfeflnamel DEFAULT '/usr/sap/tmp'.
    data: begin of it_filedir occurs 10.
    include structure salfldir.
    data: end of it_filedir.
    START-OF-SELECTION.
    Get Current Directory Listing for OUT Dir
    call function 'RZL_READ_DIR_LOCAL'
    exporting
    name = p_fdir

    file_tbl = it_filedir.
    List of files are contained within table it_filedir
    loop at it_filedir.
    write: / it_filedir-NAME.
    endloop.
    Hope this will help you.
    Let me know incase of any concerns.
    EDIT:
    There are few FM for ur refernce :
    RZL_READ_DIR_LOCAL

    F4_DXFILENAME_TOPRECURSION Popup to select one file from the given application server directory
    TH_SERVER_LIST Returns list of application servers.

  • File path control - browse button colour/color

    I can't change the colour of the browse button on a file path control. I'm using LV 8.5, but I think I have the same problem on 7.1
    Is the only way to change the colour to customise the control? Every other part of it seems to take colours from the tools palette.
    Thanks for any pearls of wisdom.
    Jon.

    I am able to change the path browse button color in 8.51 are you trying to change the button color or the color of the folder on the button.  To change the buttoin color use the paint tool and make sure you hit the space bar so you are painting the left color (Background color I cant remember which is which).  This probably doesnt work on system buttons.

  • File path control: invoke file browser activation

    Hi there,
    on the front panel of a vi I want a file path control to open automatically the file browser window when the user clicks into the path control. Is there any way to do that programmatically after the mouse down event has been fired? I couldn't find a suitable method so far.
    Thanks for any hint,
    Peter
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    I should point out that the mechanism you (I am referring to the OP) are proposing is counter-intuitive. Web browsers have started to do this, but they do it claiming security issues. Frankly, I think the security concern is small compared to the annoying change in normal behavior, but that's my just my opinion - I can't change the way Firefox or IE works.
    Do you not have the Browse button visible for the control? Clicking this displays a file browser. This is normal and expected behavior.

  • Browse the File path selection in the selection screen

    I want to give the user the option to browse his/her desktop and selct a file path and windows name by clicking on a drop down.
    How do I do that?
    Thank you in advance

    hi ,
    there are so many function modules which will provide F4 Help for the path.
    Suppose you have given a parameter name path.
    You have to use these FMs in the event
    AT SELECTION-SCREEN ON VALUE-REQUEST FOR path.
    Example :
    data : C_FNH_MASK TYPE DXFIELDS-FILEMASK VALUE '.',
    SEARCH_DIR TYPE DXFIELDS-LONGPATH VALUE '/SAPGLOBAL/USERS',
          FILE_PATH LIKE DXFIELDS-LONGPATH.
    AT SELECTION-SCREEN ON VALUE-REQUEST FOR path.
    CALL FUNCTION 'F4_DXFILENAME_TOPRECURSION'
        EXPORTING
          I_LOCATION_FLAG = 'P'
          I_SERVER        = ' '
          I_PATH          = SEARCH_DIR
          FILEMASK        = C_FNH_MASK
          FILEOPERATION   = 'R'
        IMPORTING
          O_PATH          = PATH
        EXCEPTIONS
          RFC_ERROR       = 1
          OTHERS          = 2.
      CALL FUNCTION 'F4_DXFILENAME_TOPRECURSION'
        EXPORTING
          I_LOCATION_FLAG = 'A'
          I_SERVER        = ' '
          I_PATH          = SEARCH_DIR
          FILEMASK        = C_FNH_MASK
          FILEOPERATION   = 'R'
        IMPORTING
          O_PATH          = FILE_PATH
        EXCEPTIONS
          RFC_ERROR       = 1
          OTHERS          = 2.
    If you remove 'P' and put 'A', then it is used for application server F4 help.
    you have F4_FILENAMEand F4_FILENAME_SERVER  for presentation and application servers respectively
    Reward points if helpful.
    Thanks and Regards.

  • File Path browse take too long time

    Hi all,
    I am new one and I just start  learning and implementing labview program. Now I am develping data convertion program. My program purpose is

    (a) I use' file path  ' from control palette. When I click on " browse folder" icon to choose the path of my input file or output file,it took too long to get there. I already tested and tested again . but I can't find the solution.
     (b) when I write calculated data to text file or excel, for a big amount of data, text file is ok. excel sheet show error if data is over 65536 rows. I want to know how to create and add data to new excel sheet if current sheet is full

    Your code needs a good cleanup.  I suspect the reason that your File Path browse button doesn't respond quickly is because you don't have any wait inside your while loop.  That means the loop is running as fast as it possibly can, even though you don't even have a file open to process, which keeps the processor busy and prevents it from doing anything else (like opening the file selection dialog).  Try adding a 100ms wait somewhere in the big while loop.
    It's good practice to keep your LabVIEW diagrams smaller than the size of your screen.  You have a lot of bends in your wires, which makes them hard to follow.  You don't need an enormous sequence structure outside of everything since it only has one frame, and in fact you probably don't need any sequence structures at all.  In your for loop, use a shift register instead of reading from and writing to a local variable.   Use the "Spreadsheet String to Array" function to separate your tab-delimited data; it will be much easier than the way you're doing it.
    The 65536 row limit is in Excel.  The easiest thing for you to do is to keep track of the number of rows you have written to the file, and whenever it reaches 65536, create a new file.  Since you're writing to a text file there's no way to create a new sheet.  To create a real Excel workbook with multiple sheets, you will need to look at the examples of how to use ActiveX to control Excel.

  • Getting the file path from a File browse button

    Hi,
    I was wondering if there is a way to extract the whole file path (not just the file name) from a file which is selected using a file browse button?
    I am trying to save the file path as text in my database (I don't want to upload the file). I have linked the file browse object to a table field in the database. But when entered in the database, all I get is a series of random characters, followed by the file name. I would like to have the complete file path instead.
    Tom

    Hi thanks
    I've placed the java script into the head of the page, but unsure as to how to change the taget url for my submit button from doSubmit('SUBMIT') to doPrepareAndSubmit('SUBMIT'). In fact I don't actually have a submit button, but a save new record (which performs an SQL INSERT into the database using the values contained in the fields on the page) or a update record buttons instead.
    I'm sorry but my knowledge of java scripts is not very good either.
    How do I do the follwoing?: if your submit button has not any target set its target to url:
    javascript: doPrepareAndSubmit('SUBMIT')
    Cheers, Tom

  • t:inputFileUpload does not give file path in mozilla browser?????

    Hi all,
    I am using <t:inputFileUpload /> for file uploading purpose,
    UploadedFile inputFile.getName() method gives entire file path when i use IE,but
    the same inputFile.getName() gives just a file name not the complete path when i use
    mozilla browser.....
    i got to save the entire file path during upload.
    Any idea to solve this cross browser problem???
    regards,
    sundar

    That is indeed a flaw in Internet Explorer. Firefox behaves as it should be.
    Why do you need the file path? Do you think that you can get the file from the server disk if you construct a File object with a path which is obtained from a client side disk? This is not going to work. Just get the file contents by UploadedFile#getInputStream().
    Also see this article: [http://balusc.blogspot.com/2008/02/uploading-files-with-jsf.html].

  • How do I set the default file path for the Place command?

    I keep my graphics files for each document in a particular folder. Every time I open an existing InDesign document and place a new image I have to browse back to that location - even though all of the previous images in that document came from the same folder. InDesign does not remember the file path that was used previously in the document. This is very annoying.
    IS THERE A WAY TO SET THE DEFAULT FILE PATH, OR LOCATION, FOR IMAGE FILES?
    I have looked through the preferences, searched the forums and internet, but I have not found any reference to setting default paths. Is there a setting like the one in MS Word called "File Locations" on the Options toolbox?
    Thank you.

    Since you're working in ID on Windows, you can take advantage of a neat trick in Windows. Copy the file path out of the File Explorer address bar and paste it directly into the Place filename field. That will jump you directly to the desired volume. For example, let's say I want to place a graphic located at X:\PS Jobs\May PS\709672bp\Working Source Files\Links. I copy that entire path from the File Explorer address bar, go to InDesign, select File|Place, and press Control + V to paste that path into the filename field. I press the Open button and Shazam! I'm there instantly, without a bunch of navigation.
    You can do the same thing in the File|Save As and File|Export fields. Let's say you want export a PDF file from InDesign to the volume X:\PS Jobs\May PS\709672bp\Working PDF Files. First copy the desired file path from the File Explorer window. In InDesign, select File|Export, click anywhere in the filename field, and press the Home key to move the insertion point to the front of the filename. Press Control + V to paste that path in front of the filename, then add the backslash character (\). The filename will now look like this: X:\PS Jobs\May PS\709672bp\Working PDF Files\Filename.pdf. Press the Save button to bring up the Export Adobe PDF window. Select your desired PDF preset, press the Export button, and the PDF file will magically appear in the desired volume.
    This sounds really complicated, but it's not. In practice, it only takes a few seconds. I probably save an hour's worth of needless navigation every day with this technique.

  • Validation and F4 help on an application server file path parameter

    Hi
    I have a field on a selection screen called File Path and it is for a download program where the user needs to specify the path for the download (NOT THE ACTUAL FILENAME).
    I am trying to find a function or method that allows a user to use F4 help to browse for a directory rather than a specific file. There are lots of posts out there asking this question but all of the answers point to functions that allow you to browse for a particular file rather than just the file path/directory.
    Does anyone know of a function that provides F4 help to browse for a file path on the Server (NOT PC). I would want the user to just be able to select the directory or path and have the path returned. They should not need to pick a specific file.
    F4_DXFILENAME_TOPRECURSION is a very good function but unfortunately it makes the user pick a file rather than just a directory.
    In addition to this, does anyone know of a function or method that allows you to then validate the path\directory that is entered?
    Thanks for your help
    Nicole

    Hi,
      You can try with the FM 'EPS_GET_DIRECTORY_LISTING'. With this Fm module you will get you the list of files of a particular path in an internal table. Then you can populate this internal table in F4 help.
    Hope this solves your problem. If any difficulty, come back to me about that.
    Below are some other FM related to application server directory. Hope these Helps.
    EPS_GET_DIRECTORY_LISTING
    EPS_GET_DIRECTORY_PATH
    EPS_GET_FILE_ATTRIBUTES
    EPS_GET_FTP_SYSTEM_INFO
