GPS Access to high precision time and time stamping WASAPI microphone captures

I am interested in using multiple WPs to capture microphone WAV that is time stamped with high accuracy (sub millisecond), hopefully from the GPS system. The GPS hardware obviously has the capability to sub microsecond levels but I can't find an API for
it.

What I would like to do is get geo positional data, which has a defined statistical uncertainty but might be relatively better correlated and as accurate a time stamp as possible.  Latency isn't an issue but consistency is. GPS, of course, easily produces
time information to sub microsecond though I don't know a way to access it in WP.  .1ms consistency would be all I really need but it's important that each phone in a cluster be able to capture and time stamp a sound (assume all phones are equidistant
from a source) to within .1ms. I am thinking of a product that could be used, for one obvious example at weddings, to capture the proceedings and allow after the fact enjoyment by replaying the proceedings and shifting the focus on the bride/groom minister
as they talk using beam forming dsp tech from the data. There are other ways but it occurs to me that the ubiquity of smart phones would really make this easy. Just have the guests download an app. It would be part of a wedding doc package along with videography
and stills.

  • Precise time stamping of serial data

I am having trouble with precise timestamping  of incoming serial data recived on 4 ports using 4 separate threads that continually attempt to read a byte.
When the expected frame is recieved the data is tagged with a time stamp.
The issue seems to be windows xp or the serial ports themselves.  I am using an xsens serial to usb, 2 lavaport serial cards and the built in serial port.
    Any suggestions for precise timing?

    there is some hints:
-for milisecond precise timestamp, you can use GetLocalTime,GetSystemTime or GetTickCount.
But to achieve true milisecond scale, you need use timeBeginPeriod(1)/timeEndPeriod(1) otherwise you get 10-16ms scale depend on system
(please read help pages on msdn for timeBeginPeriod function)
       - create your program to not use CPU too much(no pooling, just message and/or sync wait),
or even better, do not run any other apllication which consume lot of CPU/DISK resources on the same PC
       - for serial communication (but this also depend on baud rate) you can try to set send/receive driver buffer to 1 (from windows device manager)
       - try different serial port card/converter(with different drivers)
       - if still need something to try, set higher process and thread priority (SetPriorityClass,SetThreadPriority)
After all of this, on windows, there are no precise timing.Even if you do everything you can do, there is still chance to get time gap, but you can detect it (in milisecond precision)

  • Time stamp from DV capture -- replacement for dvdate?

In CS3, there is a plugin dvdate that can extract the date/time from captured DV avi file and overlay this information.
In CS4, this plugin no longer works (crash) and author simply said it does not work.
Is there any replacement for dvdate?  Or CS4 now supports it natively?
    Thanks!

I don't really understand why Adobe has to break such a basic function in CS4.
Does DVMP work with Premiere?  It does not look like a plugin.  There is a feature to fix start timecode.  However, the Premiere CS4 Timecode effect only shows time, not date.  So it does not seem to be an easy workaround.

  • High precision YUV rendering

    May seem a excessive....
I have a long project and I have decided to divede it in smoller videoclips for the final dvd, so I created new sequences for every new videoclip (portion of the previous bigger one). The original was rendered in high precision YUV and I forgot to modify the settings in the new sequences before pasting. I pasted, then modified the settings and then re rendered... is it ok anyway? I noticed that if you paste after changing the settings no rendering is required - I just want to be sure that the final result is the same.
    Thanks

though if any changes are made to the sequence, it would kill the render, correct?
I just am seeing how exporting this with my color correction is taking 7 hours for my system to do.. I'd love to know if there is some secret way to have rendered files saved so that it doesn't take 7 hours every time, in case I have to make a change.

  • Add Date/Time Stamp to Timecode Effect

The Timecode effect of CS5 Premiere Pro is a very useful feature. However, it is missing a Date/Time Stamp. I would encourage everyone to submit a feature request for this. I have enclosed one I submitted. You can cut and paste it into the Feature Request Submission Form.
    Feature Request Submission Form
Feature Request: Add Date / Time Stamp to Timecode Effect
The Timecode effect of CS5 Premiere Pro is a very useful feature. However, the Timecode effect is missing the ability to also display the Date/Time Stamp from Premiere captured video. This is a very important feature to include. Many videographers are archiving their miniDV tapes as AVI files since disk prices have become affordable. When I retrieve archived AVI files, I often need to look at the Date/Time Stamp, but unfortunately, Premiere does not offer that ability.
I would encourage you to add Date/Time Stamp capability to the Timecode effect so timecode, date, and time could be displayed all at once, or selectively picked via checkboxes.
Others in the Premiere forum have requested this capability.

Hopefully, you could add this as an update to CS5. And hopefully, as soon as possible. Thanks

I am fairly new to Adobe CS6 however I have to totally disagree with some of the replies here on this subject. The package cost me well over £1200 and I expect a say in improving it along the way if I am to progress on to CS Cloud. The suggestion that engineers could spend their time elswere is total rubbish, its what they are well paid for..to listen to consumers suggestions and act on them (I am paying for their time).  I would for one love to see the simple add in plug where the original date/time code could be added and burned into the video timeline. It is obvously not something needed by all but for some it could be essential. For my work I entirely rely on the original date/time code to be visible and burned in. My work is editing surveilance video and I also have to pixellate all faces of young persons so the addition of a date and time code plug in is something I would like to see in After Effects and Premier. Adobe add hundreds of filters/plug-ins that nobody in the world are likely to ever see or use or even asked for, so I cant't see why it would be a big task for them to include it in CS6 or Cloud for the future, especially as many ask for it.
On the suggestion of DVMPro, yes this is an excellent package which I already use along with vATS (which is quicker),  however the big downside for both these programmes is they do not combine the clips so if I put in 60. mts clips I will get  out 60 clips of what ever format I picked (limited to AVI/Wmv/AVCHD). You would then need combine and re-render the clips or work along the timeline with lots of clips (obviously not in AE as it wont combine clips along one layer....at least I cant see a way to do it (no doubt will be flamed on that one)
Sony vegas 11 also does not have the capability neither to add and burn in the original timecode however there is an excellent and tiny .dll third party extension called SVDTS that will add the original time/date/seconds to the timeline and burn in to the video. My point on this comparison is that it would not take a lot of time and work for a capable Adobe enineer to develop and implement such a plug in.
A crude way and free to actually achieve this is to use Freemake Video Converter, add all  your .mts (or what ever format they are so long as its original), turn on the Subtitle 1 option for each clip (no batch turn on Im afraid) and chose to join the clips for output to what ever file format you choose. The original timecode and date will be on your output video clip, not as pretty as DVMPro or vAts but is there and accurate.

  • Render in high precision YUV

    Hello,
My FCP (version 6.03) project contains several scenes. Each scene, which is made up of SD PAL clips, resides in its own sequence. I’m rendering each sequence in high precision YUV and nesting all of the sequences together in a new sequence. This parent sequence will be exported to Compressor. Should this parent sequence be rendered in high precision YUV too?
    Thanks in advance

    I'd make them the same...
Ya know, you don't HAVE to nest these sequences to a master. You can copy and paste the clips from the various scene sequences too... That way you know they are using the renders from the earlier sequences whose settings are exactly the same all the way down the line. But match these sequences exactly as far as all settings go.

  • 8 bit or high precision

Question for those who edit a lot of miniDV-
Which render setting do you use or recommend? The 8 bit or the high precision YUV and is there a big difference between the 2? Seems like the high precision is kind of like polishing a turd, so to speak.

I rarely use 10 bit rendering, there are some bugs associated with the high precision, and the return is seldom there.

  • How can I set up a guest access point with a Time Capsule and an Airport Extreme? I am using a Telus router with the Time Capsule used as a wireless access point (bridge mode). I don't want the guest access point to have access to my network.

How can I set up a guest access point with a Time Capsule and an Airport Extreme? I am using a Telus router with the Time Capsule used as a wireless access point (bridge mode). I don't want the guest access point to have access to my network.

The Guest Network function of the Time Capsule and AirPort Extreme cannot be enabled when the device is in Bridge Mode. Unfortunately, with another router...the Telus...upstream on your network, Bridge Mode is indicated as the correct setting for all other routers on the network.
If you can replace the Telus gateway with a simple modem (that performs no routing functions), you should be able to configure either the Time Capsule or the AirPort Extreme....whichever is connected to the modem....to provide a Guest Network.

  • Formatting a string with time stamp and double precision numbers

    %s\t%f\r%f
This is a format string that I have in old code that I've decided to change.  Problem is I cannot make sense of the string codes in my own old code! Let me explain what I want, and hopefully someone can explain how to do it.
I am using the format into string subvi to merge a time stamp (formatted as %m%d%Y%H%M%S%5u) and two different double precision numbers.  This string is then wired into the Write Characters to File subvi so that I can record data as a .txt file, and open it in either Matlab or Excel.  There is a minor problem with the string format above because in excel the first time stamp entry is blank, and the first loop only gives the two double precision numbers withouth the time stamp - the time stamp appears in the next loop (probably a looping issue and not due to the string format, but if you see differently please let me know).  Now what I want to do is 1. potentially fix that problem and 2. add some more doubles.
    1. Is there a string format issue that is evident that I am not seeing that causes the time stamp to be formatted into the string after a carriage return?  Or should I be looking at looping issues?
    2. How do I add another one - three floating point numbers (double precision)?  Are the \'s marking different numbers in this string constant?  Or is it the %?  I can't find any information about the \'s, but I see that % begins the format specifier.
Ideally, I want these data in the following columns:  Date, Time(absolute), FP, FP, FP, carriage return for the next loop (FP is floating point double precision number).
    Thanks,
    Brad

    Hi JonN,
Here there is no need of string concordinate function (in your code), the same result you can find if you connect the output of the format string to shift register, and shift register in data to initialize string connector in format into string function.

What can I change to gain access to my work vpn.  I can access with my MacBook Air and other routers.  Can use my ipad and this time capsule to successfully access the VPN.

You need to give us a lot more info.
I presume the MBA and the TC are the combo that doesn't work, although you don't clearly state that.
If the ipad and TC work.. are you sure the ipad is connected via the TC and not 3G network?
If it is then the TC itself is fine and the issue might be setup on the MBA.. although if the MBA works with other routers.. that rather confuses the matter.
You need to actually tell us how the TC is setup in the network. What kind of broadband modem you have and what kind of vpn you are using.

  • Old problem with precision time counting and /usepmtimer solution.

    Hello, all!
There was a problem in Windows XP and 2003 Server with using QueryPerformanceCouner() function. Sometimes it can cause problem with precision time measurements on CPUs which support powersaving modes by changing clock frequency. The simplest solution for that was /usepmtimer key in boot.ini file which forces the system to use another timer.
I just want to know does this problem appear in Windoes 7? And how to solve it since there is no boot.ini file in Windows 7?
    Thanks a lot!
P.S. This is a page with detailed description of the problem:
    http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx/kb/895980

    Hi ,
There is official documentation released on userpmtimer for windows 7 operating system.
Also the KB article only refere to the OS which have performance problem.
After reading the below article , i feel that this problem is taken care in windows 7 / windows 2008 ( though there is no formal written documentation )
    http://blogs.technet.com/perfguru/archive/2008/02/18/explanation-for-the-usepmtimer-switch-in-the-boot-ini.aspx
you can post in windows 7 dedicated forum, so that MVP / Microsoft Engineers and community members would suggest you with latest data if any.

  • Webgui and high response time

    Hi guys,
we have upgraded our worktation to windows 7 with IE9. Our users complains high response time after migration.
We have tested the webgui with Win 7 and IE8 and the response time is accetable, but we can't downgrade the IE version.
We have tried to setup the compatibility with IE8 , but the issue persist.
Do you have any suggestion about resolve the issue ?
thank's in advance fro your help.

What is your SAP MII version?
While loading webpage, is it showing contentiously loading and not opening content, then its 100% java issue only.
Goto IE9-->Tools-->internet options --> Advanced --> Browsing check(Disable script debugging). Once you down this, on status bar its shows the error like 'undefined object'.
To correct it, you need to upgrade or degrade java version accordingly.
Mine is Window 7 and using Java version 1.7.0_13-b20. its working fine.

  • Automatic GPS tagging based on shooting time and time from track

I often use geotaging and it's nice to see this feature in Lr. Anyway I found it very usefull but I can't find the abbility to make automatical linking coordinates from GPS track to photo based on the shooting time. It will be enought for me to forget about any other software (such as GeoSetter). Hope to find this option in Lr 4 release.

Yeah I knew that there is a point on the http://blogs.adobe.com/lightroomjournal/2012/01/lr4betanowavailable.html page:
Load GPX tracklogs and auto tag images based on date/time stamps
But it doesn't work for me.
