Gradient or Mask stage background?

Hello all,
I was wondering if there is a way to apply a gradient or mask
to the stage background. Essentially making part of the flash movie
transparent to the content / page behind it. I am relatively new to
Flash and I am using CS4 with AS3.

This isn't possible directly, but the workaround is easy.
Create a new
layer and drag it to the bottom of whatever layers you may
already have in
the Timeline panel. Doing so puts your new layer beneath all
other content.
In the new layer, use the Rectangle tool to draw a rectangle
to the same
dimensions as the Stage. Use the Free Transform tool or the
Align panel to
get your rectangle to the exact dimensions. Use the Color
panel to give the
rectangle a gradient fill.

Aha. Then you'll have to use something called WMODE in the
HTML itself.
This *does* work in most browsers nowadays, but it's
potentially buggy in

Gradient opacity mask logo-import into InDesign?

Hi all,
I have a quick question—I am using CS4 (illustrator & InDesign) on a Mac OSX platform.
QUESTION: I have a one-colour logotype (just text) that fades into transparency (a gradient opacity mask applied to the type in Illustrator). I would like to verify how I should properly prepare and import this logo into InDesign—to be sure I do not lose the actual transparency effect on various pages when applied in my InDesign book.

The idea that eps is not transparent never actually coinsided with my experience, I admit I do not have lot of experience using eps but whenever I have for the most part I used the eps art with transparent background like this file the signature and the cyan arectangle and the image of the ESB are composed in Illustrator and save as one eps file placed in ID.
As you can clearly see it has a transparent back ground.
I have save eps logos and palce it in QuarkXpress as well with the same result?
If you save the eps with a white background then it willhave a white background.

I meant as an opaque preview then you would have a white background.

Gradient alpha mask problem

Hello-
I am attempting to create a gradient alpha mask for a PNG file, the effect being that of a reflection fading out gradually into the background. CS4 doesn't recognize the white to black alpha gradient or solid to transparent gradient. It uses the entire gradient as the mask.
I have searched and searched, but cannot figure out how to make a simple alpha gradient mask for an image.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

You need to make the mask and the maskee movie clips, give them instance names, set cache as bitmap on both to true, and then use setMask to make the mask work.

For what it's worth, it's a well known enhancement request to have this work at author time in addition to runtime with AS (I for one sure hope we can add this).

PDF and Illustrator CC opacity mask. The opacity mask displays perfectly in the print preview, and in the pdf document when viewed on my computer, but when printed the gradient opacity mask doesn't work. Any suggestions? Have not had this problem in ot

Never had this issues in previous versions. This IS a black/white gradient opacity mask over a black and white photo, but still don't think that is the problem.

Flash CS5 problem: Movie Test - stage background goes white

Hi everyone,
I am having this problem where my stage background goes white upon movie testing and it doesn't matter if I've set the stage background to green, blue, etc.. However, when exported, everything seems to be fine. I've checked all configurations in my preference menu, but nothing from the settings is causing this. When I exported the file and play it on Flash Player 10, the background is black. Attached is a screenshot of the occurred problem. Could this be a bug or does anyone have a similar situation? Thanks!

Thanks for the wonderful quick fix simPod_, I've deleted my mm.cfg file, but somehow this isn't permanent. It should do for now except the hassle of deleting the file and restarting flash. If anyone else have a permanent solution to this, I'll gladly appreciate any responses. Thanks!

Flash CS5: Stage background changes to white upon export no matter what color I set it to?

As the title speaks for itself, I've been running into this problem since yesterday and couldn't figure out what is wrong with flash. Normally, I like to work with black background, so my stage background is always set to black, However, when I exported to view my project, the background changes to white. I've tried to check the preferences, setups and nothing I found suspicious is causing this.
I've tried to create a new AS 3.0 document, and still, it gives me a white background when I export to view regardless if I set the stage background to red or blue.
I've tried restarting my computer, and yet nothing is fixing it.
If anyone can help me figure out this problem, I'll gladly appreciate it! Thanks..

Logo with gradient clipping mask into InDesign?

Hi Bob, thank you for your response—I meant to say my mask was an "opacity mask" (applied in the transparency panel) does that make a difference? Will the opacity still work in InDesign as an ai placed link?
Also, does it matter if I just copy the logo in illustrator, then past it into InDesign? (or is that a poor methodology?)

Flash based website.. stage/background resize to fit browser?

Hi,
I've built a pretty basic portfolio-style website using Flash and Actionscript 3. All is functioning well, with the exception of stage size vs. browser size. Basically, I want the stage/background image to resize to fit the stage, while having the main content stay fixed in the middle. What is the easiest way to go about doing this? Also, if at all possible, a step-by-step guide would be amazing since I'm pretty new to AS3/coding in general.

That helps with it resize with the browser, but there is still a considerable gap on either side of the background(striped) image. I know I can handle the top/bottom gap with a little CSS, but how do I make the background stretch all the way left and right? I think even tiling it might work fine, but I'm still unsure of how do do that.

To set your background to a gradient, you could add the above code in the style tag of the html file published by Aniamate i.e

Gradient Transparency Mask

Hey everyone,
I'm not sure how to explain what I need. I have a solid
symbol with several grouped items. On the stage, I need to create a
transparency that increases from top to bottom. For example, in
Fireworks, you can create a tranparency mask over an item and set
the mask up as a gradient. The darker the color in the gradient the
more transparent the image it is masking so if you set a linear
gradient in the mask that fades from white to black, the underlying
image washes out in the same pattern.
I created a mask layer above my symbol, but setting a
gradient in the mask makes no difference in the layers it is
masking. Does anyone know how to achieve that effect that I am
needing?

I guess you're trying to apply the mask in FLASH. If yes,
then maybe the link below will help. Find the section about Alpha
Masking and down load the sample alpha mask .FLA file and take a
look at it. Hopefully it will help you. I downloaded it, but I'm
still unable to duplicate the sample within my own work. Good luck.

Gradient Transparency Mask not working

Hey there.
I am working with Flash 8 trying to create a gradient mask
effect with 2 images and a headline. I have created this effect 2xs
already for the border of the page. I used 2 movieclips, gave them
instance names, checked "runtime bitmap caching", and added a
string of AS: maskee.setMask("mask"); Like I said the first 2 work,
but I've been trying to add another one for hours and it just won't
work!?! I even brough all the elements of the 3rd one into a new
document and it works fine the way I'm doing it!! The file size is
not enormous. Has anyone else heard of this issue? Any
solutions!?!?

ha! i totally figured it out! you have to have the code (in
your actions layer of course) on the same frame as the first
keyframe of the item to be masked. geez, that only took me 3 hours
to figure out!! well, hope it helps someone else save sometime.

Change stage background color

I'm wondering if there's a way to change the background color
of the area behind the stage. On my monitor, it's a little hard to
tell the difference between the white and light gray.

While working in Flash, I have a hard time distinguishing the
stage from the area around it. I know how to change the background
color, but want to know if there's a way to change the color of the
area around it instead. I'm guessing there isn't, as it seems it
would have presented itself in the menus I've looked in by
now.

Layer mask with background animation

Hi all,
I am looking to create a video for my YouTube channel using Layer Mask but I am not too competent in using masks.

I would like to create a moving background in where the coloured image is but I want to mask out the white areas and keep the text on top. Is it as simple as just creating a hexagonal layer mask with the text in a separate layer?

Indeed I believe it is possible.

That's likely the subject of debate, depending on who you ask.
One way is to use an image that is configured with a gradient, then tile it. That's likely the way I'd approach it.
Another way is likely done using CSS to specify paramaters. Some of those here that are well versed in CSS, such as Willam, would be better equipped to answer that. Or you might use Google, I found the page below using Google.
