Great experience with TC

I've had Time Capsule for over a month now and have been letting Time Machine keep back ups on it. I never had to use those backups until today! I've been working on a revision of an article for publication. I'm on the nth revision now but never thought of keeping the old drafts in tact and rather worked directly off of those drafts. A month after my now in-progress 5th or so revision, I realised I wanted to keep a copy of the first draft I submitted to the journal. I turned to Time Machine and in about a minute found the old copy and restored it. Whoo hoo!!! I love it!

True. Although it is also true that you don't hear much praise for costumer support. Most people that come here and describe their experience with it don't have many pleasant things to say about it =X
So this is good news, just to know that at least someone happy has come over and told us how good the experience was.

  • I had a recent not so great experience with Adobe Connect

I had a recent not so great experience with Adobe Connect that I need you help on.  Keep in mind that I tested the Connect session with the presenter the day before and Connect worked very well.   On the day of the event I opened the room to get the speaker logged in as a “Presenter”.  No problems with that however I noticed that there was no “Share My Screen” button to be found anywhere. In essence I could not get him connected.
To resolve this I was forced to close out the old session and start a fresh one where I could share the presenter’s screen.  Once we were going a few of the participants mentioned that they were having problems getting audio.  Most online said they were fine but a few mentioned that we not getting the audio fluidly.  I explained that it may be due to their bandwidth and to be patient that it would cache.  Then I notice that same issue that I had talked about with a Connect technician before where all audio stops working after about  1hour into the presentation.  They way I have resolved this was to log the presenter out and log him back in.
Keep in mind that I am online with 3 other computers via WiFi monitoring and seeing the presentation as the online viewers are seeing it and I can see it coming through flawlessly.  So, for the few who had problems I attributed it to the lack of bandwidth in their area.   However, at 1 hour into the presentation the audio dropped out completely while the video was fine and this reflected on my machines as well.  This is the continuing experience that I keep having with Connect.  The total amount of people online was 9.
Now, I have a Photoshop user group meeting that will take place online this Thursday  June 17th from 5 – 7pm featuring Dave Cross and we have about 200 people registered for that. It would be great if we could have one of the engineers attend that session.
I look forward to your reply.

  • I just wanted to say I am sorry and clarify the situation as it was clarified for me yesterday... Great experience with Palm Customer Support.

I called Sprint yesterday and was treated terribly by tech support because I didn't want to switch devices.  They as much as called me outright stupid for wanting to stay with my Palm Pre.  Even though they agreed that all four phones were broken out of the box and that I was not at fault.  They refused to help on the basis that Palm Pre's were being recalled and no longer would be available at Sprint.  I was so upset that I called Palm immediately and found that to be untrue.  Thankfully.  Despite all the issues I had, I don't believe it was Palm's fault.  I believe the Authorized Retailers were selling refurbished phones as new.  Especially after finding out that my husbands' Samsung Moment had over 400 hours of talk time a week after he bought the phone.  So, after being lied to by Sprint, I called Palm and the Tech's were very helpful and very empathetic and are sending me a replacement phone.  They waived the fee since this is to be my 5th replacement and I was extremely surprised at how helpful they were.
Further, this morning I got a phone call from an unknown number... which I almost didn't answer but I did and it turned out to be a Palm Corporate Customer Service Rep who had read some of my "rants" on here.   He apologized and we talked for a while about the problems I had with R**** $&*** and Sprint.  He then offered to replace the Touchstone I had purchased earlier this month and offered to call me after I receive the replacement and the TS kit to make sure there was no problems... which I believe he will.  SO, I am a person who is very happy with Palm. If I am wrong, I will say I am wrong... especially if my experiences could had given people pause about buying this phone.  I am sorry.  It is truly a great company, who does care about their customers and their opinions.
So, if you do end up being one of the few people who have an issue.  Try Sprint once and if they don't fix the problem... call Palm and they will take care of you.  I got caught up in a cycle of reading other people examples (and who knows how much a situation is exaggerated) and expected to receive horrible service from Palm.  But I didn't and I am glad that I stuck with them.
If anyone reading had a similiar experience from Palm where they went above and beyond the call of duty to restore your faith in the company... please post if you have the time. Thanks again

I am sorry if I didn't explain clearly but Radioshack is the first place I bought my phone from... as an authorized retailer I assumed that if it was new, it wouldn't be broken... but after the first two, I got online and found another story where Radioshack got caught selling a refurb Palm Pre as new.  The guy bought it took it home and it had some defect (that I can't remember) and when he went to Pandora App, he found that the previous owner had signed in and it hadn't been cleared out.  So.... I don't know... but I agree with you because you still see the problem clearly.  Sprint acts as though they are supportive of Palm, but if you have the slightest issue, they throw Palm under the bus and won't back a far superior product.  I do agree that there are some issues with the Palm build, but I think that it has more to do with the owner than anything.  If you have the time and ability to take care with your Pre, then it will probably last longer than someone who just jams the charger in the port or anyone who doesn't baby the phone 97% of the time.  I am sure some people are going to say that you shouldn't have to take sure care with a phone and I agree, but unfortunately that is just the case for now. I have faith that the next webOS device is going to be of a spectacular and solid build quality.  And the rep that called me about the charger kit said some about a future device, I don't know if he was just talking in general or if there is actually a device in the makings but I hope so!
    http://forums.precentral.net/palm-pre/240804-still-my-1st-pre-proud.html#post2368881
I know there was a post on precentral that talked about who was on their first Palm Pre's and the number was surprising high.  I just know that I am still waiting on my replacement from Pre and they could have very easily just grabbed a refurb and threw it in a box to be shipped.  But I was assured that a tech was going to inspect the device before it was sent to me and it was shipped two days after my order.  So, hopefully dealing with Palm rather than Sprint will be the deciding factor that allows me to finally have a great model of the Pre with no prior issues out of the box.  I just hope that there is a new Palm webOS device when I able to upgrade in a year or so.  Above is the link for the forums regarding owners who are still on number one, alot of them launch day Pre's.  Thanks for your response.  Can't wait till Monday

  • Great experience with new Mac Mini!

I bought a 2.0Ghz Mac Mini a couple of days ago. I'm very pleased with it's performance and adding 2GB Ram doesn't hurt
I can't believe the grunt this little baby can give, it's outstanding. I thought that my old G4 1,33 was a champion, this one is so much better! I have installed VMware fusion it runs WinXP great, for my needs anyway. I'll try Bootcamp soon. Anyway, I love Leopard! There are some things getting used to like the new finder and how mounted SMB shares are presented but I'll get used to it for sure.
    Love it!
    Oops...gotta update my signature...done!

To echo the above: I've been delighted with my mini (a humble 'ole G4) since "migrating" from Windows just under three years ago.
The best compliment I can pay my mini and Apple in general is that it 'just works' as the "switcher" ads said at that time when I was making the transition.
Although Apple are frequently upgrading and enhancing the range, the great thing is that you don't really feel "left behind" with the latest change. There's a great continuity through the products and, ultimately, I feel it is enough to be a Mac user if the machine/software does what one wants.
Having said that, I daren't visit my nearest Apple Shop to look at the latest Intel minis - I'll only end up wanting one!

  • Just to share GREAT Experience with Lenovo Service with T61p one long two short beeps

Two weeks ago my laptop just suddenly died for no reason. It was in sleep mode and never woke up. I have researched some forums and found that the best thing to do is try to call the number of Lenovo service. I cannot remember it right now, but please check another thread t61p and one long two short beeps. The laptop was out of warranty and according to lenovo site it was 31. July was the last day for replacement claims, however nobody asked a question regarding warranty or replacement. Lenovo sent the box promptly and whole turnaround was in 3 days.
I was really surprised with efficiency and service.
So, if you are in the same situation please give it a try.
    Good Luck!

I have used support service a few times and they have always been professional and helpful the support center in Ga. I called last night for my wireless card its on the way to me now I've never had any problems

  • Some info about my experiences with Toshiba Bluetooth stack - works great

    Hej,
I just want to post some experiences with the new Toshiba-Stack and Vista.
First I was forced to use the MS-Stack, because of my mobile (Nokia) and its PC-Suite, and the mouse (Logitech v270). Both applications did not work with the Toshiba-Stack. Now with the new Stack and the new PC-Suite, it works quite good under Vista. Furthermore I decided to remove Logitech SetPoint (still no support for the Toshiba-Stack) because my mouse has actually no special buttons and a built-in battery indicator, so there is no real need for SetPoint.
Yesterday I bought a Nokia HS-12W and I am impressed. Works like a charme with the Toshiba Stack and the sound is just amazing... Can even control the mediaplayer through the headset. This one wont work with the MS-Stack at all. Thats why I took a look at the Toshiba Stack again - and was surprised.
Hope could help you a bit with my impressions!

check the website for your Bluetooth hardware brand for an update of your software (Bluetooth stack = drivers and Bluetooth management software).
This means if your USB Bluetooth hardware is labeled with "Toshiba" then the Toshiba Bluetooth website is the suitable one. The software will not expire. If your
Bluetooth hardware has an other brand label then check the according website of this brand and the software will also not expire. It will only expire if hardware brand
does not fit to the software brand.

  • Share my experiences with the B520 Model

I have purchased the Lenovo All-In-One desktop computer model B520 on Nov 15th. It arrived in my office on Nov 21st.  It’s been a month now after using it, I would like to share my thoughts about it.
    Pros:
Saves space, this is the biggest advantage of AIO desktop; this is the primary reason that why I have switched.  Computers with a case and a separated monitor is a big issue for me. I never liked these cables for mouse, keyboard, speakers, …etc. it causes a huge mess under the desk. Now, with the All-in-one style, everything is simplified.  The only cable I need for this B520 Lenovo desktop is for the power source.  It’s designed with different wireless technologies. Mouse and Keyboard are connected through Bluetooth; The system has build-in with the latest 802.11b.g.n WiFi wireless technology.  It also has the enhanced integrated 5.0 speakers system that supports SRS Premium Sound Audio.
High Performance,  out of all the All-In-One desktop models out there in the market, this machine has the highest hardware specifications. Quad Core Intel 2nd Generation CPU i72600 with Hyper Thread Technology.  This is a really powerful CPU, it gives its best performance when it comes with Video Rendering and image processing.  Word processing and gaming is a piece of cake for the it to handle. I do a lot of video editing so I will only chose this model of CPU.
The B520 model also comes wit a Nvidia Geforce GT555M.  This is a middle class close to a high end video card.  It handles most of the 3D games in an acceptable setting, but will not be able to run games like BF3 or Crysis kind of games in high settings.  This machine is not for serious gamers, because All-in-one desktops has the performance bottleneck with the video card. Computer manufacturing have to keep down the power it consumes to prevent the machine from over heating.  High end video cards all have a very high demand for powers, at same time produces huge amount of heat.  This is why there are a lot of people start to customize their own computer cases with water cooling system. It is more sophisticated and comes with a lot of trouble.  If you want to have something easy, well organized, and just simply works, go for All-In-One.  You will love it.
The Lenovo B520 comes with a Touch Screen, which I don’t usually use that often. If there are kids in the family, it will be a fun toy for them to play with. What I like better, is the Bluetooth mouse. The unique part about this mouse is that it has a build in gravitational sensor, means, this mouse is functional in the middle of nowhere, even hanging in the air.  You can imagine using it like a Wii game controller.Just move the mouse and wave it in the air and you will see the cursor on the screen goes where ever you are pointing. How accurate is it? very accurate!! it’s is more sensitive and feels better than using a Wii controller.  Lenovo has pre-install some games that can be played interactively with the mouse. The screen is 23″, so it would be a fun experience. I don’t have any kids in the house, so I uninstalled them all to save some disk spaces and speed up the system a little bit.
The keyboard and mouse are both connected by Bluetooth; I also noticed that every time when I start the computer, it takes about 2-3 seconds for them to become effective. I assume Lenovo has designed it with a “sleep feature” for this two devices; it helps to save battery and extend the replacement cycle.
The computer also comes with a 3D glasses. The touch screen has a very high refreshing rate(120Mhz) which is better for the eyes. The screen works interactively with the 3D glasses. When the computer is playing a movie in 3D format, when I wear the 3D glasses and facing the screen, it automatically turns on and I am in 3D mode!!! It supports a lot of 3D games too!!  The feeling in a racing car 3D game is UNBELIEVABLY REAL!!  I love it so much!  It’s a TOTALLY NEW LEVEL of gaming experience!
Also, Lenovo has designed 4 slots for memory modules.  they have installed 8GB onto two slots and there are another 2 slots available to use.  This is very useful for people like me demands for more rams.  It also provides four USB 2.0 and two USB 3.0 port; more than any other All-in-one desktops on the market. The 5 in-one card reader is convenient for uploading photos from cameras.  two HDMI ports, I can also connect my PS3 or Xbox360 to it if I want to use it’s 3D touch screen. It has a building TV tuner, so watching TV on it is another feature.
    Cons:
Even the computer is very well designed, as a high end user I found there are still a couple places that Lenovo can improve.
    1. Lenovo has researched and developed this RapidDrive technology; I see this is an option on the Spec-sheet for the product, but I never had the chance to upgrade it.  I demand for a high disk performance; I was a little disappointed when I found out that I wasn’t able to install another SSD high performance disk into the computer. I had to take out the 2TB standard disk drive and replace it with the SSD. It would be really nice if I can have the high performance SSD installed as the system drive, and the HD installed as the storage drive.  The RapidDrive technology may become failing out now, because it was from those years that SSD weren’t popularly used.  Compare to the present, SSD is getting more and more popular, the SSD is improving it’s performance and lowering it’s cost.  In the next one or two years, the RapidDrive technology will likely become a history.
    2. I have opened the B520 model to see the inside modules. I see there are still plenty of spaces that Lenovo engineer can use to expand the upgrade capacities. I can use some simple tools to modify the inside body a little bit to fit another hard drive, but it stopped me from doing it because there is not another power cord connector. Those extra mSata connectors are sitting there and watching me could do anything about it;  = (
    3. Lenovo technical support did not have a most updated tech sheet for their system.  Again, I am a tech kind of guy. I was looking for a manual to better understanding the B520 motherboard.(so I can modify it and add some extra hardware to it)  I have called their technical support, talked to people, went through their online data base,  they weren’t able to provide me this manual.  The lastest information they have is for the previous model. The B520 Model I have a the newest I believe. Lenovo should keep up with their technical support, and be prepare for experienced users.
    Conclusion:
I am satisfied with it. I feel I have made a great purchase.  Would be nice it I can install an additional SSD in there.  Would nice if they can put a high end video card in there.  Good for home offices, and home entertainments. Not recommended for hardcore gamer.
    Price: 4.5 / 5
    Performance: 4.5 / 5
    Exterior Design: 5 / 5
    Interior Design: 3.5 / 5
    Customer Service: 4.5 / 5
Time from order to receive the product: QUICKLY
    Other thoughts:
When I was doing my research on All-In-One, here are the reasons that why I have chosen Lenovo:
1.Sony has a well designed for their product, but the price is high. Most importantly, the video card they have is Nvidia Geforce 540M GT, and it only supports 8GB of ram, not 16 GB.
    2. Toshiba has terrible customer services for technical support. I had a very bad experience with them. I believe they have out sourced it to India base companies.  When the computer is out of warranty after 1 year, they charge a $35(or $30)dollars troubleshooting fee.  I think this is ridiculous to charge the consumer to talk over the phone to find what is the problem with their product.
    3. Dell has better customer service than Toshiba; They do not charge for talking and providing the technical support after warranty, but when it comes with parts replacement, that is something we have to pay which is understandable.  However, one thing I really don’t like Dell computers is that they install a LOT of junks onto your machine when you buy it.  It’s fully loaded with all these third party softwares who pays Dell for more users.  It not only slows down the system, but also generate a lot of garbage uses a lot of disk space.  I will reconsider to buy Dell if they give me a clean & Junk-free windows.
    4. iMac is also a good choice because it’s well designed too. but I did not chose it because it has very limited expansion ports and they charge insanely more for hard-wares upgrade.  They have extreme control over their product from customer modification. They don’t even allow the consumer to replace the hard drive themselves.
    5. HP also has wonderful All-In-Ones, but their hardware specs seems weak. Never dealt with HP customer service before, so I will not say anything about their customer services. Hopefully it’s better than Toshiba.  = )
also been posted on my personal blog

    Thank you for replying.
Where I can buy a seperate RapidDrive?
    I couldn't find it on the marcket, or on shop.lenovo.com  /  http://www.lenovospareparts.com/
With the mSata power splitter, there is a problem.
The data portion and the power portion shares the same connector I belive. I have thought of it but don't know how to make it possible.  any suggestions?
the only thing I can find is this :  http://www.microcenter.com/single_product_results.phtml?product_id=0317944
but I still need to convert the power connector because it's 4 pin molex;. I guess it should work if I use another 6" Molex to SATA Power Cable Adapter.
Also, I couldn't find which is the SATA 3.0 and Which is the SATA 6.0 connector.  SSD will have a huge difference in performace with a SATA 6.0 connector.   This is confusing because on the B520 Spec sheet it stated both.  I was looking for it's manual to identify, but no one can provides it. Last time when I called, they forwarded my call to Intel.  LOL!  I was like, **bleep**?  It's a board you used and you dont have a manual for it?
    Anyways,
    Thanks  again!

  • My experience with the Z2

    Hi there!
I decided to register on this forum as to be able to share my personal experience with the Sony Xperia Z2 thus far.
To start i want to make it clear that i personally believed this phone offered a rather good experience at first, unfortunately like some other users i too started to notice the phone had its issues which needless to say take away from this 'great' experience it has to offer.
    So lets begin.
The first Sony Xperia Z2 i received had a lot of issues, this one was a 14w20 version:
    - The device had quite a few scratches on the sides OUT of the box, which nearly made it impossible for me to return it .......
    - The MicroSD flap was not leveled and would stick out very noticeably
    - The Camera lens was not centered
    - The phone had gaps in the upper right corner and the lower left corner which were also very noticeable
    - The phone would not record 4k longer than 2 minutes before it would heat up ( tried multiple times )
    - The pictures would have a very strange colour to them, sort of neon'ish
    - Charging was extremely slow, i specifically used your standard usb cable and i used the Z2 dock, neither had effect
    - The back side would make a very annoying squeeking sound when pressed, even slight pressure would do so
    - The WiFi would be terrible, since i travel a bit i tried it on different networks with pretty much the same results at home and at the office, my other devices have no issues whatsoever nor have they ever had any issues like this device
    - The call quality was rather mediocre, quite a few contacts noticed during calls that they had to concentrate more in comparison to my other devices as to understand what i was saying
    - The 'close cover message' which pops up once you open your flaps would appear out of nowhere, whilst my flaps were closed properly
To be honest with you there were other issues as well but i think the upper list is rather enough to understand the interest for a replacement.
And so i did, i had this one replaced for another one, i was barely able to convince my supplier to replace this one due to the scratches it had which they would not believe were present on the device out of the box.
The second Sony Xperia Z2 was also a 14w20 and.. unfortunately.. it too has issues :
    - The gap issue is present on this one as well, same locations as aforementioned but a tad smaller
    - Recording in 4k now has increased up to 4 minutes before it stops recording, i find this unacceptable
    - The mechanism for open flaps is a good idea were it not for the fact that this device also keeps saying the flaps are open. When they are not I could configure it to stop notifying me but what if some day i go swimming and i believe the flaps are closed since the device does not say they are open and i take a dive? I find this very inconvenient ..
    - Call quality has not improved, my contacts say it sounds muffled and after asking my partner to switch our phones and try calling i totally agree it sounds muffled and one has to concentrate as to understand what the other side is saying ....
    - The WiFi issue is present on this device as well, now i noticed that i have to shut it down and power it back on again as to 'fix' the issue with streaming, i experience it on YouTube, Netflix, Facebook videos and others.
I also noticed that it d/c's often than not, i tried downloading a 10gb file as to see what happens and it literally stopped
more than i can count. My other devices do not have this issue... tried this at home and at the office as well.
    - The battery charging issue continues on this one as well, to be sure that it is not related to the electricity at home i took the dock with me everywhere i went and charged it where i could, needless to say it did not matter at all
I encourage people to test their phones and decide for themselves and not just buy into what i am saying, remember this is my experience with it and yours can be different.
For me, unfortunately.. i will be returning this one as well and will consider purchasing something else but nowadays it seems personally that quality is hard to find..
    /xiLuS

I'm far from impressed with mine. Very similar issues and also a cracked bezel. Unless my issues are resolved I'll be going back to an iPhone. At least if there is a hw problem they swap it out there and then. None of this sending away and being without you phone rubbish.

  • Anyone got experience with Filemaker and Mac OSX v10.4 on a G5

I am in the transition period from PPC to Intel, and installation of Aperture. My main box is an Apple G5 DP running OSX 10.3.9 and I have the upgrade software to go to OS 10.4+ but have not yet installed it. I also have a recent Intel MacBook Pro running 10.4.9.
Problem I'm experiencing is not unusual. If I run the current OS I cant run Aperture in the G5. If I upgrade the OS I suspect I will 'leave behind' some of the other software I rely on.
My query is about one main piece of software I use - Filemaker Pro 5.5 which runs a database I created handling my analog image collection, client info, deliveries and invoices, accounts etc. It works cleanly and quickly and allows great flexiblity in preparing material for output.
I downloaded the trial of Filemaker Pro 9 and it didn't like my old database when I tried to import it into the Intel laptop, and many functions seemed to have gone awol in the conversion to the newer software.
I cant experiment with this in the G5 as Filemaker is a key management tool in my work and any complications I need to overcome will impact seriously on my work.
So my question is - anyone got any experience with Filemaker in G5's - if I go to OSX10.4 upwards on this non-Intel machine will Filemaker V5.5 still run? And if not, are there any ways around this - eg using Classic environment?

*"I go to OSX10.4 upwards on this non-Intel machine will Filemaker V5.5 still run?"*
    Yes

  • Experience with W530 and Ubuntu

Is there anyone here who uses Ubuntu (13.10) as their primary OS on the W530?
If yes, what has been the experience?
    1. Did everything work (specially the finger print login)
    2. Any other driver issue etc.
    3. Stability / Speed of the machine?
I have been using windows 8 till now but I am sick of tired of the bad UI which is totally un-usable

My experience with the W530 has been poor.
I am running Xubuntu 13.10 and previously ran 12.10, I did dual boot for a couple of months and then changed to exclusively use Linux.
I understand that the fingerprint reader does work but this is a feature that I do not use.
I have the hi-res screen that is a beauty! .. I use it as a photographer, am impressed.
The dual vieo display cards creates significant problems. With the latest  Nvidia driver (now, after one year) VGA output is supported but to get VGA output *and* power savings on battery operation one needs to be very clever! Nobody mentions HDMI.
The screen calibration system (works great under Windows) doesn't work and will probably never work under Linux.
The built-in microphone system does not function.
Prior to purchasing the machine the support people told me that the W530 fully supported Linux. That is nonsense. There are no Lenovo patches to fix any of these problems a full year after my purchase.
The on-line tests that I read regarding the system on Linux indicated that in essance everything was working. It is possible that under OpenSUSE or Fedora I might be ahead in some areas but I am not prepared to take the gamble without some very strong assurances.
My take: The fragmentation of Linux creates a situation whereby basic hardware runs just fine but specialty beasts like the W530 are just so far out of the mainstreem that neither the hardware manufacturer or the Linux developers have the time or the energy to bother with the product.
Conclusion: nice machine ... or would be if it could be made to fully function.

  • MY BAD EXPERIENCE WITH CHAT AND VISION

In my personal e-mail I received publicity inviting me to purchase a Skype credit gift card. I thought it was a nice offer and I happened to have a friend that had the need and could use such a gift. I procedeed to purchase a $10 dollar gift card, I did the transaction from Colombia and sent it to my friend in the US. Shortly after the purchase I received a message warning me that my order was being under security scrutiny. I found it unexpected and unjustified (Is my $10 dollar order a security risk of some sort?), but I thought that maybe it was because it was an international order, and I understand the need for security in online transactions, so I decided to not worry, trusting in the spotless service that I have had from Skype up to that point. At that moment I noticed that the one providing the service was no Skype but Chat And Vision (whose website, by the way, looks far less friendly than Skype's).
Then I received an Email telling me that the order has been rejected. No justification, no explanation. Just a politely worded but most unhelpful and uninformative e-mail.  It made a point of telling me that they didn't retain the payment, yet my card was charged and no refund has been made so far. I replied the e-mail asking for a reason, and how to get a refund. I received the automated reply telling me that somebody would contact me the next day. It's been a day and no reply so far.
Searching online I found mine was only one in a long list of blunders and poor service from Chat And Vision. The complains on forums and online outnumber the claims of good service. Mine is a very small case compared to other complains I have read about. It was a small purchase for a smal amount, but it turned into an unexpectedly unpleasant experience for something that should have been a simple purchase ( Am I really such a security risk that I can't be allowed to place an order for a gift card?)
In the end I feel that I was snared into a trap with that offer. I trusted, I paid, didn't receive the goods, haven't yet received the refund, my friend really needed that gift and had to do without, which caused him inconvenience, my high regard from Skype has been tarnished, and I'll hesitate to make new purchases of Skype services in the future, if they keep being powered by Chat And Vision.

Some updates: I received two e-mails from Chat And Vision, regarding my two questions as to why my order was rejected and how to get my money back. These are the answers:
The first one (Ticket ID: PBF-650-80186), says: "Thank you for your email. Firstly, apologies for the inconvenience this may have caused to you. Unfortunately, due to security reasons I am unable to divulge this information. However, should you wish to make another purchase with us again, we will try to process your new order instead".
Polite but uninformative. Notice that beyond an unfocused general apology it does not acknowledge any problem nor does pledge any improvement, just a vague statement that they may allow me to use it's service again if I choose to try (not exactly reasuring).
A second answer to a second e-mail says: (Ticket ID: SVN-701-71147) "Thank you for your email, please be assured the money will be refunded back to you."
That's all. Again polite but no useful information, just a vague assurance of refund, somehow, someday into the indefinite future. If it happens I'll post it here but I'm not holding my breath.
Reading other answers from Chat and Vision posted online here and on other forums dealing with their service, there appears to be a pattern of politeness, vageness, refusal to acknowledge problems and absence of a pledge to improve. Their costumer care seems designed to placate the user without promising to get better, and is so devoid of helpul attitude that it makes me believe that their messages are redacted by a software program, and consumer complains never reach any administrative person. I might be wrong but the doubt has been sown which is a shame. Up until now I was very vocal on my praise for skype, recomending it to family and friends as a very useful and good service, but this experience with Chat and Vision, and my discovery of their costumer service history online, has set me thinking about looking for alternatives to Skype, and certainly has dissuaded me to recomend Skype to anyone ever again,or at least while their sales are still managed by Chat And Vision, or at least while Chat and Vision continues its customer service attitude, polite on the surface but haughty and unhelpful underneath.
If there are new updates I might post them here, but for now I will not pursue the matter further since the amount involved was small and I see no point in sending more e-mails to Chat and Vision. I just feel bitter that the great service that I felt was Skype has ben tarnished by this experience. Just some final thoughts:
I do not complain that my order was scrutinized by security reasons, I understand the risk of illegal activity on online transactions, and the need of online companies to be careful, but the process Chat and Vision used seemed overly unconcerned for the confort of the consumer. It took around a full day for my order to be scrutinized and then rejected, which did let me for a long time in the dark not knowing if my gift would reach the friend I wanted to give it to. This is 2014, does Chat and Vision not have the tecnology to do a better and faster process? Do they scrutinize online orders by hand? I have read more cases similar to mine here on this forum, which to me implies that Chat and Vision are overly and unnecessary zealous on their security procesess. ( Also it is jarring that they seem to consider their clients to be criminals, for no reason at all and with no opportunity to contest the charge.)
If they are going to reject a transaction on security reasons, why not do it before the payment is processed, not after, which can be stressful to the consumer that gave the money and didn't receive what was advertised, for no real reason. Seems to me there is a mistake in the way the system is set, or there is a clear disdain of what the client might think or feel.
I think that's all. Thank you if you went all the way thru this overly long rant. If you are a consummer beware that when you buy services from Skype, you are not buying from Skype but from somebody else and that somebody else does not have a spotless record. If you are an administrative person from Skype or Chat and vision, I hope you eventually prove me wrong about your unconcern for the welfare of the consumer. My experience so far is not encouraging but that may change.
    Have a good one.

  • Does anyone have experience with using a Canon Vixia HF M52 Camcorder with Final Cut Express?

I'm looking to purchase a new camcorder that is compatible with my Mac OS X (10.6.8) that will work well with Final Cut Express 4.0.1  I have downloaded the camcorder support info from Final Cut Express that list many capital camcorders.  I've used Sony tape based camcorders in the past.  I'm looking for High Definition.  I can stick with a tape based camcorder, but thought I would look at the Canon Vixia HF M52 as an alternative, which is listed as compatible.  I would like to download directly from the camera to FCE.  I film in the wilderness, like having an optical zoom of 20 or greater (yes, I use a small tripod). Does anyone have experience with the Canon Vixia?  And if not, but you really like another camcorder that you can recommend, what is it?

The Vixia HF M52 is an AVCHD camcorder and should work perfectly fine with Final Cut Express 4 (4.0.1).
The published "camcorder support list" has never been up to date and I would not take it to be a definitive list of compatible camcorders.
One note, however, the Vixia HF M52 supports a number of different shooting modes.  I suggest sticking with the AVCHD 1920 x 1080i / 60 fps mode for use with FCE.   FCE does not support progressive modes except in 720p25/30 (which the M52 does not seem to shoot anyway); nor does FCE support any 24 fps modes.

  • Does anyone has experience with Dynafix repair?

    Hello,
my iPhone broke down, and in Belgium all warranty claims have to go via Mobistar/ Dynafix.
I looked this company up on the internet, and all I got were horror stories about warranty refusal (due to water damage, other impossible to proof defects), iPhones that come back more broken than before, claims to pay 40 euros just to get an unfixed iPhone back,...
To be honest I'm afraid to even send my broken iPhone to them. Apparently Apple doesn't support iPhones in Belgium because I tried an official Service Provider, but they couldn't help me. Have to go to Mobistar -> Dynafix.
So does anyone have positive experiences with repairs in Belgium?
(I do want this iPhone fixed otherwise I'll lose all my progress in imob online
The new iPhone 3Gs looks great, and if the old one gets repaired, I won't hesitate to buy the new one too.
Thanks in advance for any reactions. I'll keep you informed on the progress.

    MrTerryG,
I wish I could tell you of a happy and joyful experience. However, I'm afraid my story won't put your mind at ease.
Since I bought my iPhone last summer, my vibration-function was very loud. I wasn't aware that this was abnormal until I heard a colleague's iPhone vibrating much softer, more than half a year later.
I first tried to bring in my iPhone in a local Apple Store, but they told me I had to bring it in at Mobistar, since I bought it there.
When I took it back, I saw a very thin hairline fracture at the simcard tray. This happened when I had -carefully- removed the simcard to bring in the iPhone.
I brought in my phone at Mobistar, describing the hairline fracture and vibration problem. They sent it to Dynafix.
2 weeks later, I went to the Mobistar Center, and they told me I had 3 choices:
    1. Pay 282€ and get a new iPhone in return
    2. Pay 40€ to get it back unrepaired
    3. Tell them to throw away the phone
They said that the damage wasn't covered by the warranty. After that, they showed me a picture, taken by Dynafix. I couldn't believe my eyes, the hairline fracture wasn't just a hairline fracture anymore, and suddenly there were much more fractures! I don't know what they did with my phone, but it looks awful now.
I sent emails to Dynafix, but their replies were not covering the point (as if they only read half of the mail).
I called and mailed Apple and Mobistar too, and both ends advised me to send letters, because there were much more similar complaints.
So that's what I'm going to do tomorrow.
It's really really sad, because this rules out buying new iPhones from Mobistar, because as long as they have a contract with Dynafix, you have an almost certain chance of being scr*wed by the repair company.
I hope you haven't sent in your iPhone, because my advice is: take detailed pics of your phone first, and have them signed by the salesman in your local store where you are bringing it in.
    Kind regards,
    codus
